Infrastructure Options
M
ost smart solutions are based upon a networked architecture, and while many companies have competent IT departments with a good understanding of infrastructure, the demands of smart solutions are often significantly higher than IT-based systems. The volume of data used by smart solutions is significantly higher than many IT-centric applications. Data also needs to be processed in real-time, allowing status changes to trigger event or actions.High bandwidth traffic such as video and audio streams can overwhelm typical IT devices, resulting in lower performance or even system failures. As such, when implementing smart solutions, it pays to specify infrastructure which has been designed and built with the high performance demands of smart systems in mind.

It is especially suitable where multiple IP access controllers are deployed. NetWay5B switches feature five 10/100/1000 data ports with speed/activity LED indicators, and are powered via PoE or 12V DC/24V DC power supplies. The BR1 mounting bracket enables the fixing of additional sub-assemblies to the enclosure’s side wall. It is compatible with the NetWay5B, PD4UL, PD8UL, PDS8, LINQ8PD, ACM4, MOM5 and VR6 to allow more devices to share enclosure space. The NetWay series also includes switches with varied capacities.

Synergy 3 deployed in London locations
Synectics has secured a competitive public space contract to provide integrated surveillance solutions for a number of prestigious sites across London. Comprising government properties, heritage sites and high-profile public event venues, the contract uses Synectics’ tailored, open-architecture solutions incorporating integration to third-party systems such as access control and intruder detection.
S
ynectics, which supports more than 70 per cent of London’s boroughs as well as major retail stores and stadiums across the city, will upgrade all sites to its Synergy 3 command and control software platform. The sites include listed buildings, high-security ‘closed-to-public’ assets and venues with high levels of public footfall. Martin Bonfield, UK Sales Manager at Synectics, stated, ‘Each of these sites falls under our specialism in public space, but
individually they each have unique requirements. That plays to our strengths in terms of the flexible technologies we offer and the broader sector experience we hold, from gaming and critical national infrastructure to city surveillance, retail, and public transport.’ The Synergy 3 solution deployed at each site will enable the control room teams to monitor existing cameras — totalling around 500 across the sites — alongside integrated third-party systems such as access control

Hanwha Techwin launches PoE Extender cameras
W
ith the ability to support all PoE cameras within the entire Wisenet range, the new 2 and 5 megapixel PoE Extender indoor and outdoor dome cameras provide an equally cost-effective solution for new installations as they reduce the number of network ports and switches, as well as the amount of cabling required. Installation ease is matched by a considerable reduction in the cost and time integrators would normally have to spend on site to install a new camera. There is also the option to connect other PoE enabled devices to the PoE extender cameras, such as a supplementary lighting unit, I/O controller or PIR sensor. The dome cameras all have built-in IR LEDs which illuminate objects up to 50 metres from the camera and feature Digital Image Stabilisation (DIS) which helps capture sharp, stable images by reducing motion blur caused by wind or vibration. All are equipped with WDR technology, with the 2 megapixel models performing at up to 150dB and the 5
Hawha Tecwin has launched Wisenet PoE extender cameras which are designed to save integrators and end users time and money when there is a requirement to install two cameras within 80 metres of each other. For retrofit applications where an additional camera is needed, system integrators need to simply substitute an existing Wisenet camera with a PoE Extender camera, and then reinstall it at the new camera location, with both devices being able to share the same cable run. megapixel models at up to 120dB, to produce clear images from scenes containing a challenging mix of bright and dark areas. Part of the Wisenet X Plus series, the PoE Extender cameras offer a number of other practical features including magnets which

Bosch enables low light video fire detection
With a new version of its video-based fire detection system, AVIOTEC IP starlight 8000, Bosch Building Technologies enables the early detection of fires with cameras, even in low light conditions. Both flames and smoke are reliably detected down to an ambient lighting level of 2 lux. To achieve this, Bosch has extended its video analytics in the camera with the use of artificial intelligence, which processes the results of more than 20 algorithms and makes an alarm decision.
T
he new version offers a significantly improved sensitivity without compromising the solution’s robustness against false alarms. The new firmware version 7.61 is suitable for application in areas with very low light levels such as warehouses and production plants at night. In case of changing environmental conditions, the sensitivity can be adapted using
programmable schedules. For example, it is possible to optimise against false alarms during daytime operations, while empty buildings, where fast detection is required, benefit from higher sensitivity at night. As the solution works reliably with minimal ambient light, it saves costs relating to the use of the lighting. Furthermore, it significantly reduces the threat for

360 Vision introduces PoE capabilities
360 Vision Technology, the CPNI and CAPSS accredited manufacturer, has announced the introduction of PoE capability across its range of rugged PTZ cameras. In response to customer demand, PoE capability, complaint to the 90W IEEE 802.3bt PoE standard, has been added to the core range options of the Invictus and Predator cameras. ‘In the wake of our recent announcement relating to super low power camera options, we are delighted to be able to make the new PoE capability available to our customers,’ stated Mark Rees, Managing Director at 360 Vision Technology. ‘The demand for PoE cameras has increased significantly, due to the additional benefits available with this technology. Site
installation flexibility, and a reduction in both cabling and hardware requirements, are game-changers, particularly in locations where there is no localised power available. ‘Our recent drive to dramatically improve power efficiency and green energy credentials has enabled us to add this important feature to the new generation of both camera ranges.’ The new PoE capability extends to all
