Introduction Your business operation faces a growing number of risks from an array of sources. Issues of corporate governance and duty of care increase the pressure on your business at home and add to the difficulties of working in hostile and difficult regions of the world. Pilgrims Group is a security, risk management and service support company that identifies and manages risks. Our expertise allows your business to operate and develop, unhindered and unrestricted. Our people are carefully selected from a wide range of specialist backgrounds. Our procedures, advice and systems are developed from a comprehensive experience and knowledge base. Pilgrims Group has a proven track record of delivering meticulous and bespoke solutions backed by a commitment to the highest levels of quality, service and client care. Our expertise gives us the insight to look beyond the immediate brief to the wider implications. This enables us to deliver robust, practical and cost-effective solutions to any scale. We will be there, whenever and wherever you need us. We will respond quickly and effectively, with the maximum of effort and the minimum of fuss.

Consultancy
A thorough assessment, a robust plan
• Threat Analysis
The risks and threats to businesses around the world are constantly changing. In order to determine the right response, your business first needs the right assessment.
• Risk Assessment - Security Surveys and Audits - Penetration Testing - Electronic Sweeps (ESM) • Impact Analysis • Planning - Security Planning - Contingency Planning - Kidnap & Ransom - Evacuation - Extortion - Disaster Recovery - Business Continuity • Testing and Training
Pilgrims Group consultancy provides a thorough assessment of the risks to your business, then plans and tests countermeasures to protect you from those risks. We are industry leaders in developing a process that takes you from the initial assessment through to the point where a plan or programme can be implemented, while allowing any stage in the process to be handled on a stand-alone basis should it be required. The assessment of risk is not a one-off event; it is an ongoing process of evaluation and review and Pilgrims will work with you as your operations develop.
The Pilgrims Group consultancy path
3
Threat Analysis The initial assessment will give you a comprehensive report on the security, political and military factors that could affect your current and future business objectives. It will include an assessment of reputational risks, such as corruption, and the activities of single-issue extremist or other pressure groups. Where your organisation is looking to establish itself in new markets around the world, we will provide you with an evaluation of the current cultural, social and religious issues affecting a particular country, as well as an assessment of its economic and political stability.
Risk Assessments Security Surveys & Audits Through a thorough survey or audit we will present a realistic and holistic analysis of your current security strengths and weaknesses, giving prioritised recommendations on realistic and bestpractice mitigation measures. We provide advice on design, physical and procedural measures, personnel, technical systems and IT implications. We will review the handling of information, test IT defences and ensure that your communications systems are capable of withstanding the myriad of threats and assaults to which they can be subjected on a daily basis.
Electronic Sweeps (ESM) Pilgrims’ Electronic Support & Countermeasure Service checks the security of your building and equipment against eavesdropping by hostile agencies or other groups who may benefit from covertly obtained ’inside information‘. Our operatives use the latest scanning technology to carry out surveys and investigations. All Pilgrims’ operatives have been trained to a very high standard by the UK government in the latest search and investigation techniques. All operatives hold UK government security clearance, providing you with the assurance that your information stays confidential. Various sweep options have been created from basic sweeps through to in-depth electronic investigations and reports. The flexible nature of the service allows tailor-made packages to be produced if required.
Impact Analysis Having assessed the risks against the agreed threats to your organisation, we also carry out an impact analysis to determine what level of damage and disruption would be caused should any of the identified risks actually materialise. This enables us to provide a prioritised list of recommendations and actions in accordance with your risk tolerance and key business needs.
Penetration Testing Bringing to bear our unique experience in penetrating government, military and highly sensitive corporate facilities around the world, our multi-disciplinary network of consultants ensures that you receive a balanced, professional analysis with sound, practical recommendations. Our penetration tests are tightly controlled against client guidelines and balanced against both the client’s tolerance to risk and the realistic threats faced.
Planning Pilgrims’ in-depth planning covers all the elements required, from design, training and the provision of personnel, through to the installation of technical systems and the procurement of specialist equipment. Security Planning Following a risk assessment or security audit, we help you to plan appropriate security measures. A key feature of our approach is to achieve integration between personnel, technical elements and procedures to ensure that your overall security strategy is robust and works when required. Contingency Planning Developing contingency plans to cover potential crises is now recognised as essential business practice and common sense. From terrorism and criminality, through political instability and strife to natural disasters, experience has shown time and again that organisations that establish clear and effective contingency and recovery plans not only survive but actually improve their market position when a crisis hits. Plans seldom survive intact when tested in an emergency, especially in extremes and when susceptible to human error. Pilgrims Group partners clients in delivering robust plans that are meticulous in their detail and broad in their vision. We help you to break down often difficult and complex problems and develop clear, easy-to-understand plans that will perform when you need them. Building on assessment and analysis of the risks, our contingency plans are thoroughly tested to handle any crisis. These may include: kidnap and ransom, emergency and medical evacuation, extortion, disaster recovery and business continuity. Where plans exist, Pilgrims can review and audit them. Where none exists, Pilgrims will work with you to develop best-practice solutions. In parallel with developing detailed, robust plans, Pilgrims will provide training and education to the personnel who will be required to implement and manage these plans during a crisis.
Testing and Training Thorough testing can highlight any unforeseen circumstances or weaknesses and allow additional measures to be put in place, if required. But circumstances change and vital to any plan is regular re-evaluation testing. Pilgrims can plan and manage your re-evaluation testing and training programmes to ensure that your plans remain relevant and up-to-date and that your crisis management team are confident and competent in their roles.

Operational Consultancy
A considered response
• Security Programme Management
Pilgrims Group can take responsibility for any and all aspects of your security needs, anywhere in the world, from specific tasks to fully integrated security programmes.
• Close Protection • Media Support • Investigations - Counterfeiting - Copyright Infringement - Due Diligence - Asset Recovery - Employee Disloyalty - Fraud - Grey Market - Employee Screening • Crisis Management and Response - Kidnap and Ransom Response - Evacuation - Medical Evacuation - Disaster Recovery - Extortion
All operations are managed through our network of regional sub-centres, which report directly to our central operations centre in the UK, thus ensuring quality control at the highest level. All your operational security needs can also be supported by a wide range of training programmes, as detailed in this guide (see page 8). Security Programme Management Pilgrims Group can utilise all our services to deliver a security presence you can trust and rely on. We assume responsibility for all peripheral security organisation and logistics, from travel to accommodation, as well as taking care of all administration, including transport, documentation, medical care and communications – leaving you free to concentrate on what is important to you and your business. We will sensitively and discreetly liaise with all necessary parties, such as law enforcement agencies, military units, local businesses, customs and local governments. Where necessary, we can also act as a buffer between you and the local population. Our consultants are selected for their versatility and interpersonal skills, as well as their wide range of complementary skills, such as languages, medical knowledge, all-terrain driving and conflict management. This makes them invaluable when it comes to getting things done. Pilgrims Group empowers clients through our partnerships. We understand that no single company has all the answers and have developed a unique group of partners, both large and small, to ensure we can provide our clients with a complete solution delivered by the world’s experts in each sector.
Close Protection Pilgrims Group can protect your people – whether key individuals or large groups – wherever they may be at risk in the world. We have particular expertise in protecting the world’s news media in hostile environments, such as Afghanistan and Iraq; and difficult environments such as Africa, Russia and South America. Our close protection consultants are recognised as the best in the world and are all SIA licensed. Their assignment to any task is based on the relevance of their experience, not simply on their availability. We operate close protection with the utmost discretion, ensuring not only that we protect against an event but that our presence does not create one.
Media Support Print and broadcast media operate in the most dangerous regions in the world and face threats that include war, terrorism, criminality and kidnap, as well as the more general risks that come from living and working in underdeveloped countries, failing states and post-disaster environments. Pilgrims Group has been providing operational security and medical support to the media for
nearly a decade helping to mitigate the threats and risks they face whilst enabling them to complete their business goals. We have operated in countries ranging from Iraq to Haiti and from Russia to South Africa for the largest media networks in the world. Our consultants and advisers, who have significant experience of helping to facilitate safe and secure news-gathering and film-making, work with media teams to ensure that journalists and production staff can operate safely and securely. The scope of our support ranges from single security advisers and close protection teams (including local personnel), to intelligence and information support, medical support and complete security plan implementation. As well as providing direct support when deployed, Pilgrims helps to prepare personnel to work in difficult and demanding environments through our programme of hostile environments courses (see Training, page 8) and through the provision of security equipment (see Equipment, page 15).
5
Investigations Utilising a combination of modern techniques and traditional skills, Pilgrims Group undertakes a wide variety of investigations on behalf of clients, including but not limited to; counterfeiting, copyright infringement, due diligence support, asset tracing and recovery, fraud or theft of sensitive information, grey market activities and employee screening (See web site for more information, www.pilgrimsgroup.com). Our investigators have significant operational experience, up-to-date knowledge and a proven record of success. These investigators have operated in the most challenging environments in both governmental and commercials spheres. Pilgrims Group well understands the sensitivity which can attach to commercial investigations: accordingly our teams are drawn from a small and select group who have attained the highest levels in their respective fields and who are known by
their peers for their reliability and discretion. Whether preparing material for the criminal or civil courts or assisting your company to deal with a matter “in house”, our consultants will be thorough and their service comprehensive.
Crisis Management and Response Pilgrims Group excels in helping to prevent risks and threats developing into actual events or, where this is unavoidable, ensuring that the impact of an event is minimised. The reality of today’s global business environment is that there is an increasing need for an urgent but considered response to broad and specific threats such as kidnap and ransom or natural disaster. Pilgrims Group Crisis Management involves the meticulous development of contingency plans, which are reviewed and implemented with a comprehensive and realistic programme of preventative measures and possible response
strategies. In an emergency, when lives are at stake, you want peace of mind. With Pilgrims, you have the world’s experts advising and helping you to make the right decisions at the right time. When required, we will respond immediately, through our global network, to provide you with the appropriate level of support – from a single specialist consultant to a complete multidisciplinary team trained to deal with all aspects of an emergency or disaster. They will assess the situation, advise you on appropriate strategies and liaise with all necessary agencies on your behalf. We are able to provide the most advanced medical care available, from a single paramedic to an entire medical team, deployed at short notice anywhere in the world in a fully equipped hospital aircraft. Nor is it only physical injuries that need to be considered. Pilgrims can provide post-incident medical rehabilitation and stress management where necessary.

Manned Guarding
Trusted to deliver
• Security Officers - Front of House - Reception Staff
Pilgrims offers a unique approach to manned guarding.
• Special Events • Patrols • Key Holding • Monitoring and Response
We are not simply a provider of people; we empower our workforce through education, training and 24-hour management support. We view the technical, operational and procedural aspects as one, seamlessly integrating them to help you optimise your resources, thereby improving security levels and, in many cases, reducing budgets. The quality of our people is our success story. Your Pilgrims’ security officers are our representatives and ambassadors and we employ only the most conscientious and able personnel. We maintain our quality through rigorous recruitment, pre-employment screening and training procedures, together with innovative remote and on-site initiatives designed to measure, monitor and motivate. Security Officers Pilgrims Group can provide security staff to cover the full range of corporate and industrial locations. All our personnel are trained within a culture of excellence, in which performing the simple tasks to the highest possible standard matters. We recognise that personnel have to be selected and matched to the actual job role itself. In order to prevent the high turnover to which the manned guarding sector has become
accustomed, we tailor our recruitment and training courses to match the job specification and ensure our personnel have the key skills necessary to successfully perform the duties required by you. We believe that security personnel should be proactive and prevent breaches rather than simply monitor and report. Our staff are given full support from our operational management teams to ensure they can cope with the wide-ranging situations they face on a daily basis.
7
Front of House Personnel Pilgrims’ front of house personnel are selected and trained to a very high level of customer care and presentational awareness. We recognise that your corporate headquarters and key facilities represent your philosophy and vision, not only to your clients but also to your own workforce. Pilgrims’ security teams will ensure you create an impression of a friendly and safe environment. Reception Staff First impressions count. Our reception security staff are selected and trained in line with our front of house teams, but are also specifically selected for their ability to communicate verbally and via IT, both internally and externally. In many cases these personnel are effectively the first contact with your company that your customers will receive. It is critical, therefore, that they demonstrate not only the right appearance but also a high level of professionalism and efficiency. Reception staff often bear the brunt of attacks from single-issue protest groups and thus need specific training and support to ensure they are able to manage and cope effectively. All Pilgrims’ security officers have successfully completed our officer training courses. They must demonstrate not only their knowledge of the role of a security officer but also their understanding of the Pilgrims’ culture and the strength of our commitment to our clients.
Special Events
Key Holding
We have extensive experience of providing event security at all levels. Whether it is an important AGM, a sales and marketing seminar or a clientfocused event, Pilgrims will design and implement an all-encompassing security plan. Our event managers are hand-picked and have years of experience in dealing with all aspects of event security. Our intelligence analysts provide detailed briefings and support to our clients and our teams before and during an event, thereby ensuring we have the right security profile to match the threat. An overwhelming security presence at an important event can be just as damaging as an under-resourced team during an incident. It is important, therefore, to strike a balance. A Pilgrims’ senior consultant is responsible for managing all special events and will quickly put your mind at rest with their vast experience and professional approach.
This service is only offered to our existing clients and is a bespoke service designed specifically against our clients’ requirements. It can be designed as part of a response service or simply as a safety net and fall-back option in an emergency.
Patrols Pilgrims provides bespoke patrol teams to enhance a client’s existing security strategy or to replace a static security team if such a team is not required. Our patrols are matched to a client’s actual requirements and complement technical systems where installed. Unfortunately, it is recognised that most security patrols on offer throughout the security industry deliver little in terms of real value, benefit or deterrent. Pilgrims will advise and design patrols that provide value for money and actual benefits. Where this cannot be achieved, we will tell you.
Monitoring and Response As well as deploying guards and specialist security consultants, we can monitor your high-value assets remotely through our 24-hour operations centre. Our software solutions allow your senior managers to have direct access, which enables you to monitor our performance as well as your assets. Further details of our technical systems capability are provided later in this guide (see Technical Systems page 14).

Pilgrims gives your employees the knowledge they need to prepare your business for everything from disease pandemics to natural disasters, from terrorism to crime. From an overview of global risks to alerts of an immediate threat, our information and intelligence products cover all levels of information vital to your business.
11
Pilgrims is not merely an information aggregator, reformatting open source information and reissuing it to clients. We turn raw information into actionable intelligence that can be used to help you protect your people, assets, information and reputation. The number of information sources and delivery channels is increasing all the time: from the burgeoning number of 24-hour news channels, web-based resources and blogs to newspapers and freely available government-sponsored information portals, such as the UK’s Foreign and Commonwealth Office. The vast quantity of information available requires expert analysis and handling and end users have to be more discerning and questioning of their information sources than ever before. We review thousands of these sources of information every month on behalf of our clients, assessing the reliability and accuracy, not only of the source itself, but of the information they are providing. We also commission our own bespoke research and analysis, undertake our own collection operations and gain first-hand insights from our offices and teams around the globe, all of which feed into our operations centre, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Our team of intelligence analysts collate, crossreference and analyse this raw information, adding context and expert comment to deliver intelligence reporting that supports the corporate decision-making process. End users can thus be confident that they have the best information and intelligence available to help protect their people and business interests.
Information and Intelligence Products For information and intelligence to be useful, it must be timely, accurate, easy to access and address the questions and concerns of the user, ultimately supporting the corporate decision making process. Our products have been designed in close cooperation with our clients to ensure that they provide real value to the user, addressing a
wide variety of risks and threats to your people and business ranging from political instability, through security and terrorism to criminality across the world, including regions of war and unrest, the developing world and emerging markets. We also address wider issues, including public health, infrastructure and cultural matters – all important areas that can affect your business and people when travelling and working around the world. We are also acutely aware that there is not a “one size fits all” solution and therefore we tailor our products to meet the specific needs of the end users.
Pilgrims’ 24-hour Support Line Pilgrims’ operations centre is manned 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Our operations controllers provide a first point of contact for corporate headquarters, regional offices and individual travellers who may require immediate advice and support ranging from a traffic accident in Saudi Arabia through to dealing with the aftermath of a terrorist atrocity in the Far East.
• Regional, country and city background briefs, risk assessments and threat analysis • Global stability reports and indices.
Our controllers will guide and support you through the critical first minutes of an incident or problem, using the many sophisticated tools they have at their disposal. These include satellite-tracking systems, CCTV over IP, GPS mapping, up-to-theminute information and intelligence and advanced overhead imagery systems.
Single-Issue Extremism
Travel Security
Single-issue extremism, such as the activities of anti-globalisation groups or climate change activists, is a growing concern for many corporations. The activities of extremists can have a devastating effect on individuals and corporations and Pilgrims can help to ensure that you have the best available information on the threats that these groups may pose to you.
Knowing where your people are around the globe and being able to get up-to-date and reliable information to them about emerging risk and threats has never been more important. In the event of an incident or disaster, you will want to ensure that you can quickly account for your people and respond to rapidly changing situations.
Our suite of products includes:
Bespoke Research and Analysis In many cases, clients have a need for research and analysis tailored for a specific need. This may range from the information needed to support decisionmaking in international investment planning through to analysing insurance risks and exposure. Pilgrims’ intelligence team comprises political risk analysts, security specialists, military analysts, economists and global security commentators with a wide range of experience and skills that can be applied to produce expert analysis.
Run from our 24-hour operations centre, Pilgrims Global Tracker helps you to track your people, wherever they may be. At a glance you can check on the whereabouts of your staff and you will have the peace of mind that threat alerts and emergency messages are being delivered worldwide by SMS and email ensuring that your staff have the most up-to-date information available. In the event of an incident, our system will quickly identify which of your staff have not responded to our alerts, allowing further investigations to take place.
