SmartShock With mountain biking growing all over the world, more and more tracks are being built. Not only is every track completely different, but tracks are getting more complex and more diverse as they go. The way your suspension is set up on a mountain bike is crucial, on average there are 10 adjustments per bike, each with around 10 individual settings that tune your bike to act in a certain way. When racing or riding, one suspension set up does not suit one track, SmartShock solves this by giving you up to three different programmable suspension setups that you can cycle through via the push of a handlebar mounted button. These setups can be loaded onto the bike from a dedicated app and can be saved and shared allowing you to get the most out of your suspension.

Rabbit Shed Rucksack Live Brief During my final year project i was working with a local textiles designer called Sarah Hughes to create a new Rucksack for her Brand Rabbit Shed. This project involved a lot of research into the industry, from a full market research trip to London investigating fashion to the various materials needed in manufacturing. From here there was constant back and forth between myself and Sarah where the design, story and direction of the product was confirmed. This final design took inspiration from the Brands logo making it a unique design. The rucksack was designed for a use in urban settings particularly amongst students and young professionals. Along side this there is a full technical documents that was created to aid the manufacturing process.

Hubble Bubble Hubble Bubble is an interactive, educational board game aimed at children aged 5-8 years. That encourages learning through play in order to reduce the number of harmful accidents occurring when hazardous plants are consumed. A third of adults do not realise that plants found in the domestic garden can be dangerous for a child. Memorisation is promoted through incorporating questions and relevant information about plants and the consequences of consuming them into the board game. The hint cards use a combination of graphics and text to allow users with differing reading levels to easily interact with the game. This is perfect for use within groups of varying age ranges as all players are able to understand and learn together. When combined with question cards this inspires exploration into nature in a fun and safe manner.

TRACR This project was a live brief by CK Tools, the goal was to design and develop a way of keeping track of your tools. Based on research conducted by the Electrical Review, 58% of respondents admit to having had their tools lost or stolen. General contractors are looking for a solution to keep track of their equipment and reduce the likelihood and potential of theft. Therefore, I created TRACR, a great product that is GPSbased that helps you find valuable tools in seconds with the latest technology. The outer shell is made of lightweight plastic, and it locks the internal electronic parts securely with nuts and bolts, it’s secured to your equipment with a self-locking metal wire. It runs off a CR2032 battery which gives 2-3 months of battery life and connects via Bluetooth to a tracking app to discover missing equipment. TRACR - protects your equipment and livelihood.

BreatheStim Mental health is becoming more acknowledged in society, while there are methods and products to assist people widely available they all focus on a singular aspect or age group, most apps created also have similar functions and aren’t always easy to access long term. I wanted to create a new product that is handheld, portable and multifunctional for anyone who benefits from visual and tactile stimulation, which from my own experience and those I spoke to, identified as key points when looking into a support item. This is where BreatheStim comes in; The overall design includes a programmed breathing timer using low LEDs to calm and slow breathing from hyperventilating back down to a normal rate, I also moulded a detachable silicone fidget which is robust enough to take “stimming” such as scratching and biting in an attempt to reduce self-injury.

Hailer The Future of Inhalers Hailer is the new generation of inhalers. With the rise in C02 emissions its necessary for individuals to receive proper health care treatment. Therefore, I’ve designed an inhaler built to be accessible to everyone. The sleek design of the Hailer provides comfort and functionality. Resulting in a oneof-a-kind Inhaler. The hailer available in store, online but also via a downloadable cad files. Having this level of accessibility allows me to provide anyone with an inhaler. Due to the low costing production of Hailer, it means it’s also affordable. Ergonomics have a huge impact on the quality and feel of a product therefore during the design phases of Hailer, I made sure to take certain factors into consideration. Such as palm size and hand shape, making sure Hailer was a comfortable fit for everyone.

Dual Unlock baby gate The Dual Unlock baby gate project is a reexamination of the use of baby safety gates at the top of the stairs. This project was started in collaboration with RoSPA (Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents). A recent increasing trend of safety gate related injuries was judged to be due to underperformance or misuse of them. The Dual Unlock baby gate answers that through the adaptation of the standard pressure gate, the most widely used gate type into a safe-for-stairs version with extra features. The tripping hazard has been eliminated using hard steel bar. Custom square-ended screws that fit into the pressure pads allows for drill-less fixing into the wall, as not all households own one, or are confident using it. Lastly an adjustable extension will allow parents to unlock a stair safety gate by foot for the very first time, without removing the option of a manual unlock.

RespoSafe The ‘RespoSafe’ is a respiration monitoring device that not only counts the breaths, it also evaluates the quality of the breath and determines whether that breath is effective. Then by counting the breaths deemed effective, the device communicates with the responder whether the casualty is breathing effectively, hyperventilating, hypoventilating or requires CPR. This assists emergency medical service professionals such Beach Lifeguards, Military Medics and Mountain Rescue. By eliminating the potential for human error, the ‘RespoSafe’ ensures that the casualty receives the correct treatment. Furthermore, the ‘RespoSafe’ is a pocketsized, fully rechargeable, lightweight medical device. This ensures the device can be utilised in the toughest environments without limiting the user.

Multi Functional Games Table Working alongside Tom Vousden Designs to create a new and unique pool table for Johnsons Sports. Combing traditional bespoke joinery techniques with modern functionality, we created a table which can be used in any environment. A 6ft slate bed pool table, with an added board to be placed on top to use as a dining table, flip the board over to reveal a table tennis court. To make the user’s experience as comfortable as possible we have implemented an ergonomic feature which allows users to adjust the height of the table to suit their desired use, as a pool table is higher than a dining table. The system works by pulling a handle underneath either side of the table, the handle then activates gas struts placed in each leg which will raise or lower the table.

The Stand Tall The Stand Tall is created with the user in mind, by rethinking the common industrial crutch quality of life can be improved for it’s users. The added support and comfort helps long-term crutch users (who may already suffer with joint issues) to improve their confidence, reduce pain and give them more freedom. The modern styling of the cuff allows you to fit in as it isn’t dull and bulky. It also reduces risk of rashes as it is breathable. By adding padding and changing the way you grip comfort is promoted with The Stand Tall. This allows for the wrist to be supported while giving you the freedom to move your hand and grip the way that’s best for you. The addition of the brace helps you to pause, take a minute and compose yourself before continuing with your day. This gives added support to the lower back allowing you to take some of the pressure off for a while. By rounding the foot the crutch walks with you as it rocks to your step reducing the jarring and keeping you steady. This foot allows you to do more as it is suitable for all kinds of terrains; from grass to tarmac.

Flat Pack Toolbox A Toolbox designed to answer C.K Magma’s need for a hard storage solution that does not waste space during the shipping/warehousing stage of its life cycle. At current CK Magma, do not produce any hard storage, as they are essentially shipping fresh air and it is too inefficient to transport. The Toolbox is designed to be on par in terms of reliability, with others on the market, despite being shipped in a compact form to be more efficient and coming to the user as a flat pack. It features a snap build system that is held together by all the different components pushing on one another and an ergonomic handle that helps to prevent the users’ wrists from being twisted. It also has an expansion joint design so that it can be upgraded in the future with extra features such as a cable reel, transport wheels or a longer handle.

REFILA The waste produced by 3D printing is not easy to dispose of and as the market continues to expand this the issue will get even worse. The plastics used are not widely recycled so the waste usually ends up in a landfill. The REFILA provides a solution to this problem. Using a simple shredder and a heated extrusion barrel waste can be turned into usable 3D printer filament. The REFILA is a recycling system for 3D print waste. By using the system it allows you to turn failed prints, supports, etc into new usable filament. The REFILA is compact, mains powered, easy to use and low cost. It can be used with most 3D printing materials. The REFILA allows you to reuse your old and broken prints.

Si-Lwli - Deian a Loli For my final project I partnered up with a Welsh company called Si-Lwli, Si-Lwli create Singing Welsh toys that allow children to learn through play. By doing my research I found that only 29.1% of the Welsh population could speak the language, the Welsh Government are trying to raise this number up to 31.8% (1 million speakers) by 2050. The products created were the Deian and Loli talking dolls. The dolls sing 27 phrases and the ‘Deian a Loli’ theme song from their show on S4C. These dolls were created in hopes of developing Welsh children’s language skills and their view of the world around them through play. Whilst in the process, we hope the dolls increase confidence in children by learning to make friends, to bring joy whilst playing and also helping children sleep at night. Further developing the Welsh toy market for the older children of Wales.

Expedition Turbine Project Scope The aim of this project was to create a portable wind turbine, so that customers can generate and store electricity through their own sustainable power source during their camping/expedition trips. The problem that users are currently facing is that solar alternatives do not produce enough power per day to sustain consumer usage, and fuel powered generators are not portable. Product Usage The user is able to consume the wind generated power via USB outlets on the ‘power box’ (a small box that houses all the electronic components). This ‘power box’ will be connected to the turbine via a long cable and will sit inside the users tent where they can use the sustainable power as they please. Features: • Bearing to rotate 360° • Tail vane and furling mechanism • Marine grade stainless steel fittings • Steel stays, ground stakes and turnbuckles • 4 lightweight aluminium mast sections • Lightweight fibreglass blades

Eco Pills Pill Pot The Eco Pills Pill Pot is a product designed to decrease the carbon footprint of the medical industry. Currently most medical pharmaceutical pills are packaged in blister packs, fantastic at storing and keeping pills safe but an absolute nightmare to recycle due to their combination of bonded plastic and foil, being almost impossible to recycle in most recycling plants and thus ending with the packaging in landfill. The Pill pot removes the need for blister packs entirely by implementing it to pharmacies as a way of distributing prescription medicine in a more sustainable way. The idea consists of customers ordering their prescription and receiving the pot from the pharmacy with the correct prescription within, once the pot is empty the customer returns the product to the pharmacy and receives another, meanwhile the old pot is sanitized for use again. The pot is simple to use and dispenses pills one at a time via a simple spring loaded pull activated system.

Sustainable Coffee Tables We are part of a throw-away society. Where products are made not to last, and consumers get rid of products before they’ve reached the end of life. My aim is to make sustainability fashionable. The first table features a washing machine drum and incorporates a top piece that can be removed so the inside can be accessed for storage. The second table features an alloy wheel which provides a sturdy bottom to the table and has an industrial, rugged look. The third is a bike wheel which gives a minimalistic style, the legs are inspired by aircraft design and the bike wheel itself can spin. I have chosen scrap metal products as their feature pieces, selected due to their circular structures and although each has a completely different style, they all share similar attributes, making them a great range which allows customers to choose the one best suited to them.

Concept Gwynedd Hub The Network Rails project was organised in collaboration with the RSA design award. The main objective of this project was to reduce unused spaces within the location of a rural transport hubs, and occupy these spaces for practical purposes. The concept Gwynedd Hub was designed with convenience and maximising usage of space in mind. The solution I proposed is to have the hub perform more than what it is intended to do. By using the modular units provided by Network Rails to construct a multifunctional hub. This hub utilises the spaces to offer up to date services and facilities aimed at different groups of users. This space can be modified and adapted to various different needs, such as events to promote local cultures, Sunday markets as well as user needs like office/study spaces, entertainment areas and food courts. In return, this will maximise the usage of the spaces within location of the hub as well as offering users the freedom of choosing how the space can be used.
