We are blessed to live in an area with truly genuine, giving, people. It seems as if we all know each other! This tight knit community still has surprises for us though - with acts of great generosity - that we’d like to share with you, our readers. – Robbin Moyer, Director of Marketing

Nina Derda and her fellow residents’ single act of one good deed lead to another that touched the lives of many local families.

Giving back to the Blue

Last year, former D Profile editor Nina Derda noticed police officers often patrolling her Wyandotte neighborhood. Nina decided she wanted to thank them and show her appreciation for their attentiveness.

Nina contacted all of her fellow tenants at the condominium complex where she resides about the event she planned, and noted that if they would like to donate, they could write a check to the building’s treasurer. Nina spent about three weeks collecting donations.

In the end, with the support of her neighbors, Nina raised $517. She presented the gift to Wyandotte police officers in the ‘thank you ceremony’ at Nina’s condominium complex. The officers were very moved. They decided to pass along the generous donation to the Wyandotte Goodfellows organization.

Any female college student who would like to attend next year’s conference should send an email, with the subject line “2022 NCCWSL”, to aauwwd@gmail.com More info on the conference can be found at AAUW’s national website: aauw.org/resources/programs/nccwsl/
