DR. ANNE ABRAHAMSON
Great Lakes Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation
Dr.Anne Abrahamson has offered integrated non-surgical treatments to Downriver residents since founding Wyandotte-based Great Lakes Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation in 2007. Dr. Abrahamson specializes in diagnosing and treating neurologic and musculoskeletal disabilities that affect movement, including traumatic brain injuries, neck injuries, and lower back pain. She commonly treats her patients with peptide therapy, which facilitates healing, reduces inflammation, and promotes weight loss, among other benefits.
“Peptides are naturally occurring in the human body and are the building blocks of proteins,” explained Dr. Abrahamson, who earned her medical degree at Wayne State University School of Medicine and her postdoctoral education at William Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak, Michigan.
“Peptides act as signaling factors of the body, instructing your cells, tissues, and glands to perform a variety of functions. Because of these factors, there are ample benefits to peptide therapy. It can accelerate the healing process, build muscle mass, decrease joint and muscle pain, improve sleep quality, strengthen the immune system, reduce signs of aging, enhance memory and cognitive functions, lower blood pressure, and increase energy and stamina.”
In addition to peptide therapy, Dr. Abrahamson is a major proponent of using cellular medicine to help her patients combat injuries and illnesses. Dr. Abrahamson discussed cellular medicine and noted its extensive benefits.
“There has been a lot of talk about cellular medicine over the last few years,” the lifelong Downriver resident said. “It is the idea of a more personalized,

customized treatment plan based upon an individual’s genetic, environmental, and lifestyle factors. It not only refers to the treatment of illness or injury in a more holistic or naturopathic way, but it can also be used as a preventive measure. We will order in-depth labs to gain a comprehensive picture of what is going on in your body. We look at everything from electrolytes, minerals, and vitamins to hormones and/or food sensitivities. We take this information to help get to the root cause of the chronic illness and work with you to overcome the challenge.”
Dr. Abrahamson elaborated on the advantages of cellular medicine and described how it helps her gain a better grasp of patients’ ailments.
“Cellular medicine allows me to work with a disease in a radically different framework: disease reversal and prevention through lifestyle, genetic, and biochemical factors to impact you at the cellular level,” Dr. Abrahamson said. “By addressing the efficiency and health of the cell, I gain a deeper understanding of the complexity of the disease, unique to each patient, and how to effectively improve patient outcomes rather than managing symptoms. The results are astounding.”
Despite caring for patients battling various health conditions, Dr. Abrahamson has garnered significant praise for her work with injured athletes. In such instances, she often uses stem cell or platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapies to help mend ailing competitors.
“For sports injuries, stem cell therapy can be used for tendons, torn ligaments, and other damages to muscles, bones, and cartilages,” Dr. Abrahamson said. “When coupled with peptides, the results are maximized, getting you back into the game and/or gym quicker. We also offer PRP therapy, which uses injections comprising a concentration of a patient’s platelets to speed up the healing of injured tendons, ligaments, muscles, and joints. In this way, PRP injections use each patient’s healing system to improve musculoskeletal problems.” Colin Linneweber
