THE LEOPOLDINA HOUSE HISTORY
The property’s architectural style follows the model of the “Leopoldina” Tuscan house. One of the most beautiful structures of the late 1700 of the southern Tuscany, in the province of Siena. In order to promote the country life and to bring people to live and work as farmers, it was necessary to improve the quality of the country houses. At that time in the area called “Valdichiana”, under Pietro Leopoldo government, it became important to qualify the human settlement in the country promoting the social progress, better life and work condition for the inhabitant. The rural construction industry started to follow the demand of the intensive use of the land trying to offer a better product with more living and working confort, in terms of function and hygiene giving more dignity to the farmhouse. It was Pietro Leopoldo who exposed these needs in the 1769 when he came to the Valdichiana for a visit and he saw that the farmhouses were little, ugly and not proportioned to the families living in. After 9 years he came back and during that visit he was satisfied of the new buildings which were reasonable and very good. Thanks to him the lands all along the river “Canale Maestro della Chiana” became the best place to test the new typology of farmhouses construction. A planning test which aimed to a good integration between living space and work space. So the external stairs acquired a different meaning and architectural significance for their position protected from the nothern cold wind. In the same way the front door porch became the continuation of the house for the moderate climate. The stalls and stables were customized acording to what kind of animal was going to live in, considering temperatures, winds and sunshine. The Leopoldina, the farmhouse, became a detached country house on 2 floors with hip-roof and a turret in the centre. Stalls on the ground floor and home on the first floor with a big kitchen, considered the heart of the house, the most lived room especially in winter and rainy days. The facade was characterized by the porch and the lodge with more than one entrance.

THE VILLAGE - BOLGHERI
The country house is located in known village of Bolgheri, which is in the district of Castagneto Carducci, in the Leghorn Area. Bolgheri became an internationally known region following an event in 1974 arranged by Decanter where a 6-year-old Sassicaia Wine won over an assortment of Bordeaux wines. Prior to this, Bolgheri had been relatively anonymous producers of ordinary white wines and rosĂŠs. Due to the particular characteristics of the soil and micro climate sunny, dry and moderately windy, the grape varieties tend to thrive, such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot.
SUPER TUSCAN The supertuscans are the high quality wines which brought in the limelight the area of Bolgheri and the Etruscan Coast. The wines of this place are the Tignanello and the Sassicaia. All around Bolgheri many little hamlets offer good vineyards and wise cookery.
