Planning for the Future We know the world is changing. We feel it in the needs and challenges facing our clients and our own organization. Fundamental business and economic drivers — from the internet of things to shifting demographics — are changing the way we work and challenging organizational priorities. In our line of work, assets are designed and built to last for 30 years, if not longer. Yet, at the current pace of change many of our clients don’t fully understand what their business will look like in 10 years, let alone 30. In order to best serve our clients we need to do more than understand how drivers are affecting change. We need to be leading the change. To this end, we’ve developed a Strategic Foresight Program at Progressive AE focusing on the impact technology will have on the built environment. The program ensures we are intentional about advancing the Vision of our firm to provide knowledge and leadership that is strategically relevant to clients. To kick off the program, we engaged Joe Tankersley from Unique Visions. As a futurist and former Walt Disney Imagineer, Joe was able to set us on a path of observing trends and topics and understanding the implications of these for our clients. “Progressive AE is leading in the architecture and engineering industry by addressing the future and keeping strategic foresight top-of-mind for their clients,” said Tankersley. “This program will help clients plan for the future and maximize the future value of their projects.” Together, we are reimaging our tomorrows and helping shape the future. Our Strategic Foresight Program will help our firm and our clients better anticipate change, develop new business opportunities, and get the most out of future projects.

Cornerstone University, Jack and Mary De Witt Center for Science and Technology

Higher Education Projects Bring Home National Awards Two higher education projects were recently honored by American School and University.

Lake Michigan College, Hanson Technology Center

Cornerstone University’s Jack and Mary De Witt Center for Science and Technology won an Outstanding Design Award from the American School and University’s 2019 Architectural Portfolio. This brand new STEM center demonstrates a connection between science and faith with live walls throughout, a large fish tank at the building’s entrance, views to nature, and natural building elements. The building’s design celebrates science, helps connect students and faculty, and serves as a key academic space for the entire campus. Lake Michigan College’s Hanson Technology Center received the Collegiate Citation, a top award from American School & University’s 2019 Educational Interiors Showcase. Dedicated to advanced manufacturing and skilled-trades training, the tech center was designed with innovation, transparency and flexibility in mind. The building features state-of-the-art lab spaces dedicated to fabrication, welding, and advanced manufacturing. It is home to one of the few large-scale interactive simulation labs in the country.

Lake Michigan College, Hanson Technology Center

“With clean lines, good use of color, functionality, good use of natural lighting and a few bold spaces, Hanson Technology Center shows what a modern machine shop can look like. The open, daylighted individual learning spaces are the heart of this building and definitely put students first.” - American School and University Judge

Expanding Procurement Services Procurement has long been a service provided by Progressive AE. However, our past efforts have focused primarily on sourcing furniture and artwork. We’re excited to invest deeper into the procurement expertise; expanding efforts and bringing additional value to clients. Working closely with our expert interior designers, we’ll be able to seamlessly integrate procurement into the larger design process. By having a single contact point, we’ll save clients both time and money. Additionally, the partnerships we’ve developed over the years give us a competitive advantage when it comes to pricing, selection, and quality. Ryan Penland recently joined Progressive AE as procurement leader. Previously, he spent six years with grocery giant Meijer leading the fixture and equipment buying team. He’s excited about the opportunity to expand the firm’s already successful procurement expertise and working together with clients. Have a question for Ryan? Email him at penlandr@progressiveae.com.
