Project Ability & The Happy Club 2018
Art : Access : Ambition
The Happy Club was established in April 2007 to reduce the isolation of families in Glasgow who have one or more children affected by disability or autism and enable the families to have a happy, healthier, more fulfilling lifestyle. Project Ability is a Glasgow-based visual arts organisation with an international reputation for excellence. We create opportunities for people with learning disability and people with lived experience of mental ill-health, aged 5 years to 80 plus, to express themselves and achieve their artistic potential. Over three hundred people each week take part in our year round programme of workshops, events and exhibitions which are held in our centre in Trongate 103 and in community venues throughout the city. In early 2018, Project Ability invited artists Celine Mcilmunn and Consuelo Rosa Serván to lead a series of visual arts workshops with children and young people from The Happy Club, making art work to celebrate World Autism Awareness Day. The children and young people – and their siblings – experimented with painting, printmaking, clay and textiles, creating some bold designs, exciting patterns and unusual textures.
These workshops were made possible with funding provided by Trefoil. www.trefoil.org.uk www.project-ability.co.uk www.the-happy-club.co.uk
