Twenty-first century libraries are places for creative expression, collaborative learning, cultural exchange, refuge and hope. Do we, as library leaders, have the language, practices and data needed to describe and shape their future? Are our existing frames too narrow? Too tame? Unfurl that Frame invites you to experiment with new ways to talk about what we do and what it means.

Unfurl that Frame Our libraries are bristling with creative edges of all kinds. Unfurl that Frame invites you to learn from and talk with innovators in our national, state, public, academic and government libraries around four themes: participation, problem solving, bridging differences and changing lives. Part symposium, part maker space, Unfurl that Frame will be a practical, project-oriented and poetic workshop that promises new frames and new connections. Expect to be stimulated and stretched in a festive learning atmosphere.

Creative producers and thinkers from outside libraries will also present new frames to tinker with. Let’s claim the creative work already happening in Australian and New Zealand libraries and work together to build on it – across sectors.

The Collective The Unfurl that Frame Collective represents all library sectors across Australia and New Zealand. Comprised of alumni from the CAVAL Library Leadership Programs 2008 to 2012, the collective aims to bring a spirit of creative aliveness to questions of concern to all library leaders, regardless of position and sector. We want to create an interactive symposium that is enjoyable, engaging and significant. As a collective, we are using the project as a medium in which to learn new skills. As library leaders, we aim to use these skills and insights

to improve our on-the-ground leadership practice and share the learning with our networks. We’re excited about working in libraries and optimistic about the future. In collaboration with the National Library of Australia, we intend to bring this spirit to Unfurl that Frame. Aspiration animates: come and join us!
