M IS S IO N, VALUES AND O BJ ECT I VES The Martínez Hermanos Foundation was created in 2014 as an initiative of the Martínez Hermanos Group (GMH), established in Equatorial Guinea since 1927. Its main mission has been and continues to be to help the country become more sustainable and to improve living conditions for all its people. The Foundation is the culmination of the vision of the Martínez Hermanos Group, transmitted from generation to generation along with their family values. Values that go beyond a business vision, that extol commitment, loyalty and trust. The Martínez Hermanos Foundation (FMH) was set up with the firm resolve to channel and structure the various social and welfare initiatives that the company had been carrying out, and with the desire to open new channels that would enable it to participate in activities of general interest. A commitment to society has been a central feature of Martínez Hermanos from the outset. As a socially responsible enterprise, and aware of the role it plays in the Equatorial Guinean community, it has a strong vision and clearly defined areas of action that include social cooperation, education and capacity-building aimed at children and adults, and employment support. The goal is to help strengthen the structure and capacities of society. Our aid and healthcare initiatives have improved the health and living standards of a great many people in the country.

One of the priority goals of the MartĂnez Hermanos Foundation is to promote humanitarian aid. Cooperation in the reconstruction of infrastructures for daily use (schools and housing) is another major pillar of the company. It seeks to improve the quality of life of the people by promoting values for the betterment of society, supporting education and generating employment. The environment is another precious asset, which is why the MartĂnez Hermanos Foundation also carries out actions every year to restore it and to raise awareness amongst the population of Equatorial Guinea of the need to conserve it.

CHILDHOOD One of the main goals of the Martínez Hermanos Foundation is to improve the quality of life of the children of Equatorial Guinea. We have worked tirelessly to achieve this goal, collaborating with hospitals, schools, orphanages, cultural centres and sporting events. Some of the most noteworthy actions carried out by the Martínez Hermanos Foundation include food deliveries, the donation of sports and learning material and of toys to children in hospitals, maintenance work on SOS Children’s Villages family homes and delivery of school supplies. Particular emphasis is also placed on the donation of computers and school materials to help strengthen education through the appropriate tools.

In its first five years of life, the Martínez Hermanos Foundation has carried out countless social cooperation and development actions and projects for Equatorial Guinea, with the aim of improving the basic welfare of a great number of Equatorial Guineans. Strengthening humanitarian aid and social cooperation, providing healthcare and meeting basic needs, mainly through hundreds of donations (food, equipment, etc.); these are vital actions for the development and the future of the country.

thanks to the creation of our Foundation, which has already made a significant number of contributions: more than a hundred donations of school supplies, more than 10 sports camps, participation in the creation and maintenance of more than 15 schools and hospitals, in addition to several humanitarian medical missions that have led to more than 1500 consultations and more than 500 surgical interventions. The Martínez Hermanos Foundation, which I preside over with immense pride and satisfaction, is the culmination of a family business philosophy and vision that goes back more than ninety years, to when my family first started to do business in Equatorial Guinea, forging solid bonds of brotherhood between this country and Spain. Now in our fourth generation, we fully understand the need to translate this bond of brotherhood into acts of charity and to transmit the values of the Martínez Hermanos Group. From the outset, the Martínez Family has applied principles and values that they have fostered and rooted in what is today a highly competitive business group that values its human team as one of its main assets. These principles are upheld through a constant commitment to Equatorial Guinea society from each and every one of our employees and managers, who are always willing to help where needed. Over the years, our Group has participated in many humanitarian aid projects, but particularly in the last five years,

The people of Equatorial Guinea carry Spain in their hearts. Not only do they share its language, culture and traditions, but they are also grateful for that legacy and always open to all the love and help they receive in each of the actions that we carry out. The Foundation that I preside over today wishes to convey a message of hope and faith to the people of Equatorial Guinea, showing with their actions the way to make a better, more just and equitable world possible. To borrow from the words of Teresa of Calcutta: “At the moment of death, we will not be judged by the amount of work we have done but by the weight of love we have put into our work.” With these lines I would like to invite other business groups to contribute decisively to the construction of a better world. I offer them the opportunity to join us in this exciting project, with whatever resources they may have to meet the needs of the most vulnerable members of Equatorial Guinea society. If I may use the words of our teacher and collaborator Luis Galindo: “Whoever wants something finds the means, and whoever does not want to do anything always finds an excuse.” I would also like to take the opportunity to once again thank all the people who make the work of our Foundation possible, both in Spain and in Equatorial Guinea: ambassadors, suppliers and sponsors who collaborate with the projects and all those who share our enthusiasm, joy and confidence in a better future. C O L L A B O R AT I O N A S T H E K E Y TO COMPETITIVENESS IN COMPANIES Five years ago, the Martínez Hermanos Foundation was created as a result of the Martínez Hermanos Group’s concern and commitment to the society of Equatorial Guinea. It is a project that I have the honour to lead. Since then, our Foundation has become the friendly face of the Group, the seat of its social action as it addresses education, health and infrastructure challenges to contribute to the development of Equatorial Guinea. It is also a way for us to reciprocate the welcome that this country extended to our founders more than eight decades ago. Of all the areas in which we intervene, I would like to highlight childhood, the hope and future of a country that appreciates the meaning and value of the family, that truly cares for and gives great importance

to children. This concern for children is the linchpin of the projects of our Foundation. The future of humanity resides in children. Thanks to thoughtful planning and contributions from the entire team, we have carried out countless initiatives in our different areas of action over the years. Close collaboration with other organisations with interests in the country and with all kinds of different teams that have altruistically provided their support; this has contributed to us achieving the goals of our foundation. The kindness and gratitude of the people of Equatorial Guinea have been matched by the involvement of their national organisations and the solid business ties that unite Equatorial Guinea and Spain. And it goes without saying that the energy and time that the team devotes to carrying out the Foundation’s projects are also amply rewarded by the experiences that we have along the way. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all our team and collaborating organisations for their commitment to our cause. The outcomes of today and tomorrow are largely the result of these contributions. Being surrounded by teeming vegetation is a blessing, seeing the sea every day is a pleasure – Equatorial Guinea reflects nature at its best every day – but living together with and making others happy is priceless; that satisfaction that only feelings can define makes my journey with the Martínez Hermanos Foundation an invaluable experience.

Contributing to making the vision of the founders and the Martínez Hermanos Group a reality is a pride and an honour. I accept the mission to “Share Smiles” (our motto) with enormous satisfaction in my position as National Director of the Martínez Hermanos Foundation. I carry out my duties here alongside wonderful collaborators in each of the areas in which we provide relief, and have seen the growing impact of our work: the joy of children, adults, patients after successful operations, the authorities, and the daily gratitude, all of which reaffirms the importance of offering a helping hand to others. D O N AT I O N S The Martínez Hermanos Foundation believes that the support it provides in covering basic needs (food and equipment) is essential. This is demonstrated by the dozens of financial and material donations made every year in all fields of action. All donations are important, from the most basic supplies, such as books, furniture and sports equipment, to tools of much greater value, such as sanitary supplies for hospitals or technical equipment to improve learning processes. In 2018 alone, more than a hundred donations were made. The Martínez Hermanos Foundation participated in the 1st Solidarity Market for the Pequeño Valiente Children with Cancer Association, held at the Atlantic School, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, in March 2016. With a significant financial contribution to support this cause and to continue with research and care for children suffering from this disease.

Financial donations feature amongst the highlights of our work, but it is the delivery of supplies where the Foundation focuses most of its action. From the most basic supplies, such as books, furniture and sports equipment, to tools of much greater value, such as sanitary supplies for hospitals or technical equipment to improve learning processes. One of the most notable actions of the Foundation in terms of donations was, in collaboration with Obra Social La Caixa, the campaign â&#x20AC;&#x153;no child without a milk moustacheâ&#x20AC;?, for which 500 litres of milk were donated.

HEALTHCARE One of the ways to guarantee the future of a country is by prioritising healthcare; that is why the MartĂnez Hermanos Foundation collaborates on several healthrelated projects. As part of its support and commitment to the country, the Foundation makes donations of medical and healthcare equipment to centres for the aged, hospitals and clinics, as well as furniture, the construction of toy libraries and toys so that patients may be treated in the best facilities and conditions possible during their stay in the various medical facilities. Without a doubt, two of the most notable projects are the Africa PlĂĄstica Project and the Vision 2020 action. The first focuses on international cooperation providing, through medical assistance and health training, specialised care in plastic and reconstructive surgery in order to offer a better quality of life to those affected by the sequelae of burns, tumours and congenital malformations. In turn, the Vision 2020 action, carried out by the Barraquer Foundation, aimed to combat blindness caused by an increasing number of cataracts in Africa. Due to living conditions, diet, health and climate, this is a very common pathology in the continent that also, in many cases, stunts the economic growth of families because so many jobs are in crafts, which requires the use of hands and eyes. The Ruta de la Luz Foundation joined this project, carrying out 1,500 examinations in various schools with the aim of optimising school development by providing glasses and lenses to all children who required them.

ÁFRICA

PLÁSTICA The Africa Plástica project was created in 2017 as a result of the collaboration of a group of medical professionals from the Plastic Surgery Service at the Doctor Negrín Hospital. In collaboration with the Martínez Hermanos Foundation and SOS Children’s Villages, they took their initiative to Equatorial Guinea (Bata) and managed to improve the health of a significant number of patients.

The first Africa Plรกstica mission took place during the second half of November 2017. more than 185 Equatorial Guineans were treated and 65 were operated on by the medical team consisting of three surgeons, two nurses and an anaesthetist.

During the same period, in 2018, the second África Plástica mission took place and involved a total of 202 consultations. In addition, 145 cures and more than 140 interventions were carried out, which would not have been possible without the collaboration of the medical team. We would also like to highlight the educational side of the project, with local medical and health professionals who actively participated in different medical functions and took care of patients in need of attention. Faithful to its commitment and values, the Martínez Hermanos Foundation will continue its commitment to promote initiatives such as the África Plástica project.

VISIÓN 2020

“We Share a Vision” In 2015, the Martínez Hermanos Foundation, in collaboration with the Barraquer Foundation and the Ruta de la Luz Foundation, and with the support of the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare of Equatorial Guinea, Guinebega and Equatorial Coca-Cola Bottling Company, launched its medical and surgical initiative Vision 2020. The main objective of this initiative was to provide eye care to a great number of Equatorial Guineans to help improve their eye health, by providing the necessary medical services. For this, they organised a mission focused on cataracts, the main cause of blindness in the country. Through the Barraquer Foundation, 750 appointments were given, 138 surgical interventions were performed, and 350 pairs of reading glasses were donated. The Ruta de la Luz Foundation contributed with 1500 appointments and 750 pairs of reading glasses

The Barraquer Foundation and the Ruta de la Luz Foundation The Barraquer Foundation specialises in cataract surgery, performing an average of 35 daily operations, a significant figure if we take into account the large number of people suffering from this disease in the country. To carry out its work in the proper conditions, the Barraquer Foundation has a complete surgical team, as well as specialised staff so that all patients receive the highest quality care. The Ruta de la Luz Foundation collaborated closely with the Barraquer Foundation on the Vision 2020 project. Their action resulted in a visit to several centres, including the Rafols Care Centre, the Kisito School, the Niefan Sagrada Familia and the Bisila School, and eye tests for all the children, where they took note of all those who needed glasses. These were then manufactured in Spain and sent to them, thus fulfilling one of the main objectives of the mission. We would also like to underscore the collaboration of Ópticas Herrera Cerpa in the collection and donation of sunglasses, through the “Glasses Appeal”, to contribute to postoperative cataract care. As a result of this initiative, a total of 900 pairs were sent to Equatorial Guinea.

MEDICAL EVACUATIONS In the field of healthcare, the Martínez Hermanos Foundation has evacuated three children, who urgently needed to be operated on, to Spain. With the support of the Doctor Negrín University Hospital in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, two interventions were carried out: • In 2016, the neurosurgery team successfully extracted a brain tumour from 17-year-old Reginaldo Nuvara Ebang, enabling him to continue his life normally. He is currently studying law at the University of Guinea. • Two years later, in 2018, the Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery team removed a tumour from the lymphatic system of 12-year-old Roberto Carlos Esono. Also in 2016, with the collaboration of the Barraquer clinic in Barcelona, 12-yearold Rogelio Bacare was treated for a serious case of entropion that caused him problems with vision in both eyes.

Education and culture

SCHOOLING The education of children is one of the greatest values for the construction of Equatorial Guineaâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s future. For this reason, the MartĂnez Hermanos Foundation promotes and participates in numerous programmes with schools and encourages students to participate in the various shared education initiatives of the Foundation. A core requirement for the development of schools is the provision of books, teaching materials and school furniture, so that education can be successfully delivered. Another hugely valuable tool is the creation and stocking of school libraries.

We have learned. We keep going. VOCATIONAL TRAINING The Foundation makes every effort to provide support for vocational training. Aid in this field ranges from teacher training to a range of different courses and donations of computer and technical equipment, so that teaching centres have the best possible resources to successfully perform their functions. 47

FMH ACADEMIC-SPORTS SCHOLARSHIPS The Martinez Hermanos Foundation, since the second edition of the Basketball Camp in 2015, has been actively involved in the promotion of sport as a means to improve the lives of young Equatorial Guineans, combining sporting goals with academic goals. As part of its support, the Foundation launched an academicsports scholarships project, a cornerstone in promoting its practice in recent years. In 2015, two 17-year-olds received scholarships to complete their high-school studies in Lanzarote. After successfully completing his studies in Microcomputer Systems and Networks, one of them, young José Fabián Mba, secured a job in the Martínez Hermanos Group, where he continues to work to this day. Two years later, in 2017, two other young people also benefited from the scholarships, studying Microcomputer Systems and Networks, as well as the Maintenance and Installation of Cold, Air Conditioning and Heat Production Systems. In total, four students to date have taken the opportunity to play and train at the Conejero Basketball Club in Lanzarote, which competes nationally in the Spanish Liga EBA. Some of them have even played for the Equatorial Guinea National Team, combining sports with an education and academic achievement, thus ensuring a promising future. The Martínez Hermanos Foundation awarded for the first time, in 2018, a scholarship for young women in Equatorial Guinea so that they might also benefit from the academic and sporting opportunities.

MARTÍNEZ HERMANOS FOUNDATION LITERARY PRIZE The Martínez Hermanos Foundation and the CCEB together organise the Equatorial Guinea Literary Prize. The aim of this award is to promote writing, reading and literary expression in general, a consolidated action that they have been working on for the last three years. The contest takes place in Bata and Malabo; 71 contestants participated in the first edition, and 85 in the second. The three prize-winners for the reading and interpretation of literary works in Bata and Malabo are listed below. MARTÍNEZ HERMANOS FOUNDATION AND SPORTS One of our most successful campaigns was the “Trainers Appeal”, in collaboration with the Lanzarote Island Council and the Conejeros Basketball Club. Thanks to this initiative, hundreds of pairs of sports shoes were donated so that the children of Bata and Malabo could practise their favourite sport with suitable footwear. Another campaign worth mentioning is “Pass the Ball”, which collected thousands of balls and other sports equipment thanks to the collaboration of Saúl Ñíguez, the Atlético de Madrid football star, and the Seur Foundation. Every summer for the last five years, the Foundation has held the Football Camp, led by Benjamín Zarandona, and the Basketball Camps, led by Iván Fernández from the Conejero Basketball Club, in the cities of Bata and Malabo. Another highlight is the Football Camp in Lanzarote. Complete Sports Development. 2016. This camp takes place in the city of Arrecife with the aim of involving children and young people in an environment of sports, values and solidarity. There are schemes to collect sports equipment to take to Equatorial Guinea, in addition to sports talks and training in values and sports excellence with the participation of Benjamin Zarandona.

As a grand finale to 2018, a charity match was held in collaboration with Banco Santander and futsal players Ricardinho and Carlos Ortiz. The initiative resulted in a donation of more than 10,000 euros for sports equipment. Sports equipment donations are essential for children and young people in Guinea to practise sport in properly adapted spaces. Some examples are the delivery of kit bags to the Niefang Sports Club, the donation of turf to the Santo Ángel College football field in Bata, and the delivery of sports equipment to the children’s football team in the Ukomba neighborhood, the Malabo orphanage, among many others.

BENJAMÍN ZARANDO Benjamín Zarandona Benjamín Zarandona is a former footballer who played for Valladolid, Betis and Cádiz, and also played for the national team of Equatorial Guinea. Currently, he is the ambassador of the Martínez Hermanos Foundation, collaborating in numerous initiatives, and is one of the most visible faces of all the actions that are carried out every year to promote sport in the country. Among the many actions in which Benjamín Zarandona has participated to date, those that focus on the donation of sports equipment to camps, centres and schools are of particular note. Thanks to his time spent playing in the top flight of the Spanish League, Zarandona can call on the help and collaboration of current players, coaches and former team mates, who have supported some of the actions that the Foundation, together with the former Equatorial Guinean football player, has carried out in the country.

CHARITY MATCH DECEMBER 2018 BenjamĂn Zarandona was the figurehead of one of the most notable MartĂnez Hermanos Foundation initiatives of 2018. A charity match in support of the people of Equatorial Guinea that took place thanks to the collaboration of Banco Santander and futsal players Ricardinho and Carlos Ortiz.

Basketball Camp Since 2013, the Martínez Hermanos Foundation has collaborated actively with Feguibasket to promote basketball amongst children through a summer camp that takes place in the cities of Bata and Malabo, in Equatorial Guinea. More than 200 players between the ages of 4 and 18 have participated in these basketball camps which, in the last two years, have also benefited from the participation of Jorge Olano, Sports Director of the Canary Islands Basketball Federation and coach of the Spanish U15 men’s team, and Santi Lucena, coach of the EBA team at the Real Club Náutico de Tenerife. 73

Pass the Ball Pass the Ball came about thanks to the collaboration between the Martínez Hermanos Foundation and the Seur Foundation. The goal of the campaign was to collect footballs and sports equipment for children of Equatorial Guinea and it benefited from the collaboration of the ever-present Zarandona, with the support of the Atlético de Madrid football player, Saúl Ñíguez, and journalist Felipe del Campo. The campaign was carried out across the whole of Spain, with 17 cities participating actively. The province of Las Palmas, in collaboration with the Island Council of Gran Canaria, Endesa and Cadena SER Las Palmas, collected more than 5,000 balls, breaking the national record for this initiative. The Seur Foundation also participated in this collection of sports equipment, which was then sent to Equatorial Guinea.

No child without boots The Martínez Hermanos Foundation and the Seur Foundation, in collaboration with Benjamín Zarandona, launched the initiative “No child without boots in Equatorial Guinea”, the aim of which was to donate football boots and any type of sports kit in good condition. The collected kit was delivered to different schools and children’s institutions. The initiative was carried out three times across Spain and collected more than 10,000 football boots and nearly 5,000 items of sportswear.

CONSTRUCTION AND SUSTAINABILITY The provision of resources for the development of projects and infrastructures are also of vital importance for the present and future of Equatorial Guinea. The MartĂnez Hermanos Foundation collaborates with a multitude of organisations, contributing material and manpower for the reconstruction and restoration of various buildings. For example, the refurbishment of churches and active participation in the restoration of damaged schools. The Foundation has also helped to construct new buildings and spaces from scratch to facilitate the development of activities. During these five years of activity, the Foundation has built the Fernando MartĂnez football field at the Salesianos school, a waiting room at a medical centre and another at the Rafols medical assistance centre, among others.

A special mention for Mahou San Miguel, which has collaborated during all these years with countless donations, not only financial contributions, but also sports, school, computer and teaching supplies. Other noteworthy collaborations were Obra Social “la Caixa” in the “No Child without a Milk Moustache” campaign, which led to the donation of 500 litres of milk; Coca-Cola’s support for actions such as the VISION 2020 initiative, promoted by the Barraquer Foundation, the Ruta de la Luz Foundation and Óptica Herrera Cerpa, which provided eye care to the people of Equatorial Guinea.
