Cycle safety tips The following are some helpful hints to cycle safely around Greater Shepparton: • Check bike steering, brakes and tyres are in good condition • Check front and rear lights and brake reflectors if riding at night • Carry water, snacks, money and a mobile phone for long trips and emergencies • Carry a bike pump, spare tube, tyre repair kit and bike lock • Wear an Australian standard approved bicycle helmet • Obey all traffic signals and road rules • Always ride a metre from the kerb or parked cars • Signal your intentions by hand and establish eye contact with motorists • Keep to the left side of the path • Give way to pedestrians • Let others behind you know when you are slowing or stopping • Sound your bell, or simply call out ‘passing on your right’ as you approach pedestrians. Aquamoves is Greater Shepparton’s premier fitness centre located centrally near the Shepparton Lawn Tennis Club and All Abilities Playground. Parks and reserves Jackson Park This park is named to acknowledge the association of the former owners, Mr JA and Mrs NM Jackson. Lighting, an electric barbeque and an automatic watering system for the park were donated by the Shepparton Apex Club.

John Pick Playground Named after John Pick, JP, a Councillor of the Borough of Shepparton from its inception in 1927 until his retirement in 1940 (Mayor 1937 - 38).

McGuire Reserve This reserve is named after Patrick McGuire, an Irishman who was the first settler in what is now Shepparton City.

Ross-Edwards Reserve Named after Peter Ross-Edwards, Member of the Legislative Assembly in the Victorian Parliament, for his outstanding contribution and commitment as the representative for the Shepparton electorate from 1967 - 1991. He was leader of the National Party from 1970 - 1988.

John Riordan Reserve Named after John Riordan, JP, a Borough and later City Councillor of Shepparton from 1927 â&#x20AC;&#x201C; 1965 who served as Mayor on two consecutive occasions. www.greatershepparton.com.au

Jaycee Park Located at the western entrance to Shepparton, this bushland park was named after Jaycees (Junior Chamber of Commerce) Service Club.

Brickworks Park Located along The Boulevard, Brickworks Park is one of the newest parks in Shepparton and has a strong environmental theme.

Kalinga Park ‘Kalinga’ is an aboriginal word meaning ‘pleasant’ and ‘cheerful’. It is an appropriate name for this natural bushland park adjacent to the Broken River.

Cudgee Park (meaning ‘a very good place to visit’) Located at the junction of The Boulevard and Balaclava Road, this indigenous parkland fronts the Goulburn and features stairway access to the river. Monash Park Named after Colonel and later General Sir John Monash, who was the engineer responsible for the concrete bridge, which was built in 1914 to replace the original 8

This concrete bridge, at the western entrance to Shepparton, was demolished in the early 1970s when the course of the river was diverted and two causeways were built. Monash Park is now home to many of Greater Sheppartonâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s MooovingArt cows.

Goyen Reserve Goyen Reserve was named after Arthur Thomas Bowden Goyen AICA, ACIS, LCA. Goyen was a councillor of the Borough of Shepparton. As Chairman of Parks and Gardens he, with CR J Riordan, played an active role in developing the original Victoria Park Lake project.

The Goulburn River The Goulburn River provides irrigation water for our thriving horticulture and dairy industries, is a clean source of water for drinking, and supports the massive food processing sector - SPC Ardmona Foods, Campbell Soups Australia, Unilever Australasia and Tatura Milk.

WB Ferrari Park WB Ferrari Park was a Mooroopna Lions Club project and recognises the commitment of charter member and past president Bill Ferrari. There is off-highway parking and the site features barbecue facilities, a sheltered picnic area, skate park and public toilets.

This circuit is used for the road race in the Australasian Schools Cycling Cup, which sees the best junior cyclists from Australia and Oceania battle it out in a variety of cycling disciplines to be the best cycling school. Despite the length of this ride it is a very challenging course as the terrain is constantly up and down, featuring some of Greater Sheppartonâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s toughest hill climbs.
