NEWSLETTER

WELCOME TO OUR NEWSLETTER! Prom Racing has been involved in the Formula Student competition since 2008 studying, designing and manufacturing a Formula racing car. Our team has received significant distinctions in the past and based on results is one of the most successful teams in Greece and the world. In addition, we are the first Greek team to take the 1st place in an official Formula Student competition, the Formula Student Czech Republic 2021. After the successful summer in Formula Student competitions, we have started designing our second electric racing car. In our newsletter you can read about our goals and each subteam’s progress.

Vehicle Dynamics The Vehicle Dynamics and Suspension subgroup for the September-October period, in collaboration with the other subteams, defined the objectives and the basic characteristics of the new car as part of the Conceptual Design for the year 2021-2022. Using steady state simulation tools, which the team has created, the main objectives were set regarding the basic dimensions of the car (wheelbase / track), the weight and aerodynamic load distribution and the suspension and kinematics characteristics. In addition, the subgroup was involved in the design and study of the new suspension and kinematics of the P22, which will introduce new innovations to the team, such as roll / heave decoupling geometry to improve dynamic handling and aerodynamic performance.

Aerodynamics & Cooling By the end of the competitions, our department engaged in improving the quality of our CFD mesh, aiming for less cell skewness in order to enhance the accuracy of the solution, while at the same time limiting computational resources. Meanwhile, as far as aerodynamic design is concerned, some new features were introduced in to our package: 4 sidewings that aim to exploit the high energy flow and direct it away from the rear wheels, as well as a three – dimensional version of our rear wing’s 4th element, that wishes to reduce the recirculation phenomena at its suction side. Regarding the cooling system’s design, our team attempted a different concept with 2 radiators at a specific angle instead of one, that would cool down the engine and the inverter. Last but not least, we started developing a heat transfer simulation, by creating the initial mesh.

Electronics After a successful summer in Formula Student competitions, the Electronics subteam proceeded with the selection of the specifications of the new electric race car. The experience we gained during the competitions contributed in setting the appropriate new targets for this year's plan. The main goals are those mentioned below: taking advantage of P20 powertrain, maintaining the reliability, improving this year's telemetry system as well as the simplification and smooth implementation of the electrical subsystems. Initially, in cooperation with the Mechanical Designers subteam, the main principal was to select the characteristics of the accumulator cell and container , such as capacity, weight and electrical connections. In general, the concept that corresponded to the maximum of points in all the dynamic events as a whole was chosen. Specifically, in the new race car, we will incorporate the P20 Powertrain (inverter and motor), except for the accumulator. For the purpose of understanding and manipulating our motor-inverter combination capabilities properly, we have tried to conduct a dyno test. Also, we are engaged in another important project, the design and integration of a custom Battery management system within the accumulator container. In addition, sufficient time has been devoted to designing PCBs for our car's shutdown, control and data acquisition systems. Finally, we have carried out successfully experiments for our new telemetry system.

Marketing The Marketing Department organized its communication strategy for the new season during October-November. The point of interest was creating

promotional material for informational purposes for our sponsors and admirers of our accomplishments this summer. We also prepared all the actions to promote our Recruitment, exceeding the 300-application mark. As far as Public Relations concerns, we participated after approximately two years, due to the Covid-19 outbreak, in two events. Our first event took

place in the WRC Rally Acropolis 2021 e-sports World Finals, held on the Olympic Velodrome. A few days later in September 18th our team traveled to Patras where we participated in the “Pick Patras” racing event. There, we had the opportunity to promote our achievements and new year’s goals to the Greek public. Finally, in the field of social media, our team had a remarkable progress since the end of the competition period. On Facebook our page surpassed 95.000 views and on Instagram 31.000 views.
