Mountain View Machine & Welding, also known as MVMW, is a manufacturing entity tucked away in Logan, a small college town in northern Utah, less than 1.5 hours from Salt Lake City. And though Logan is by all measures a small town, parts made from MVMW are shipped throughout the United States and even internationally. Cliff Abbott, long term employee (20years) for the company, says, “Work at MVMW is always interesting. On any given day we can be repairing a manure spreader, manufacturing a component for the food industry, and making components for the F-15. We are just so diversified, both in the products we make and the manufacturing we do.” Cliff adds that the company doesn’t turn away walk-ins, and it is not unusual to have a farmer come to the shop for help machining a part. The company also manufactures a number of parts that go into mission critical defense and aerospace products. Jason Crook, owner of Mountain View Machine & Welding, Inc, began as a journeyman machinist working in the U.S. Navy, U.S. Air Force, and Thiokol (now Orbital ATK). He had been a machinist and a shop foreman; yet knew he could better serve his community using his knowledge and experience with his own family-run business. And so, nearly 3 decades ago, MVMW was launched by Jason and his wife Tricia in the family’s garage with two machines. All 9 of Jason and Tricia’s children have been part of the business throughout its history, with son Rob expected to run the company in its long term succession plan. Cliff says, “Jason recognizes how critical it is for us to continuously invest in technology if we want to remain competitive. We believe in supporting our customers with as much of the machining and processes done in house as possible, so that we can best control the quality and delivery.” Today, MVMW is a single source supplier to some of their largest customers. Jason says, “Our machinists
