National Tour Launches at PPAC June 25 – 30 // Tickets: $86 - $41 THE BAND’S VISIT is the winner of 10 Tony Awards®, including Best Musical, making it one of the most Tony-winning musicals in history. THE BAND’S VISIT recently won the Grammy Award® winner for Best Musical Theater Album. The Broadway company of THE BAND’S VISIT has been nominated for a Daytime Emmy Award for their performance of “Answer Me” on The Today Show. Since its premiere off-Broadway in 2016 and opening on Broadway on November 9, 2017, THE BAND’S VISIT has been a critical and audience favorite. Almost every major news outlet has listed it as a “Best of the Year” production, and it has been described as “a masterpiece of small but powerful moments” (Billboard) where “worlds collide, and hearts and minds open” (Vogue). The show’s power lies in its Tony Award winning score, written by Tony Award winner and Brown University alum David Yazbek. The score features Middle Eastern music and jazz and musical theatre influences. The sensual and alluring music of THE BAND’S VISIT sets the tone for its story: to quote the book, written by Tony Award winner Itamar Moses, “once, not long ago, a group of musicians came to Israel, from Egypt. You probably didn’t hear about it. It wasn’t very important.” Within ninety minutes, these two distinct, rich cultures find common ground through music and experiencing small, personal moments with each other, like sharing a meal together, going roller skating, or walking in the park. THE BAND’S VISIT ultimately shows that when people come together, despite their reservations about each other, they can arrive at a place of hope and healing. THEATRE NEWS PPAC ANNOUNCES “EXPERIENCE PPAC,” A NEW EDUCATION INITIATIVE FOR THE 2019/2020 SEASON At a press conference held in the Grand Lobby on March 26, Chairman of PPAC's Board of Directors Joseph W. Walsh, Esq., announced our brand-new state-wide education initiative, called Experience PPAC! This program will provide every 10th grader in Rhode Island with an opportunity to see a select touring Broadway performance at PPAC. This education initiative is made possible by PPAC’s Board of Directors and Staff who strongly believe in the value of arts education. Working in partnership with PPAC, bus transportation company FIRST STUDENT will provide transportation to and from these shows. Tickets to these shows and busing is paid for by PPAC. There is no charge to the students or their schools for the theatre tickets or for bus transportation. During the 2019/2020 Broadway Season, sophomores will have the chance to see Thursday morning presentations of COME FROM AWAY and FIDDLER ON THE ROOF, with a third show to be announced.
