In the book of David Copperfield appears Yarmouth, a town where the characters were going to spend a few days of relaxation. Great Yarmouth, often known to locals as Yarmouth, is a coastal town in Norfolk, England. It is located at the mouth of the River Yare, 20 miles (32 km) east of Norwich. It has been a seaside resort since 1760. For hundreds of years it was a major fishing port, depending mainly on herring fishery, but its fishing industry suffered a steep decline and has now all but disappeared. Great Yarmouth is Norfolk's premier beach resort where you can enjoy a short break or seaside holiday. There are a lot of things to see and do, many beautiful places to eat and drink, a nice town center and amazing sandy beaches stretching as far as the eye can see. Charles Dickens visited Great Yarmouth in 1849 - staying at the Royal Hotel on Waterloo Road. He only stayed for two days but the place must have made a big impression on him for he was soon to use it as the main setting for his semi-autobiographical novel David Copperfield. An upturned boat on the beach, used as a house, almost certainly provided the inspiration for Peggotty's house. Dining with Dickens is a regular event at the Royal Hotel. Guests are entertained by the magical sounds of Barrie James whilst staff in
period dress serve traditional Victorian dishes cooked to perfection by our resident chefs. Recipes are based on the original Bill of Fayre enjoyed.
