agent to watch

Written by Katie Kohler | Photography by PLUSH Image Corporation

Amanda Turske Love Your Stoop at Keller Williams Philadelphia

Amanda Turkse, a REALTOR® with Love Your Stoop - Keller Williams Philadelphia, is this month’s “Agent to Watch.” Amanda serves Philadelphia and the surrounding counties and specializes in South Philadelphia and Fairmount. As a resident of Philadelphia since 2001, Amanda has first-hand experience with the neighborhoods’ growth and development. In fact, it served as inspiration for her to start a career in real estate. Amanda lived in many of Philadelphia’s up-and-coming areas including Northern Liberties, Fairmount, East Passyunk, and now the Point Breeze section of South Philadelphia. Amanda always has a finger on the pulse of real estate in Philadelphia and keeps her clients in the know about the neighborhoods and their amenities. She loves showing buyers the unique neighborhoods and providing them with her personal insight so they can find their perfect fit. Community plays a big role in Amanda’s life and work. She is active in her neighborhood, volunteers for local recreation centers and her son’s school. She is a co-manager of the Bouvier Community Garden and serves as block captain where she currently resides.

realproducersmag.com

What clients are saying about Amanda:

• “She was able to provide great advice and recommendations throughout the whole process and was generally really great to work with. We are now happily living in our dream home thanks to Amanda.” • “Amanda is an honest professional in every way. She made buying a home a breeze and very enjoyable.” • “Amanda was very helpful and responsive throughout the whole process of selling our home.” In her free time, she enjoys gardening and crocheting. This month’s “Agent to Watch” took some time to answer “closing questions” with Real Producers. This interview has been edited for length and clarity. Clients praise your attentiveness. Why do you believe it’s so important? Amanda: It’s a big accomplishment to

purchase or sell a home. I try to tailor

Philadelphia Real Producers • 19

the experience to their needs to make it as smooth as possible. An educated buyer is the best buyer and it’s going to be a better experience if you are familiar with the process and know what to expect. Especially with today’s market, it’s important to set appropriate expectations because it’s going to make the experience for buyers and sellers much more smooth. I try not to take on too many clients at once. It allows me to dedicate the proper amount of one-on-one time to make clients comfortable. There are little details you need to be able to pay attention to. How do they react when you show them a certain property? How do they feel about different amenities? With sellers, my team does our own staging. I want to do anything I can to help the property present as best as possible. Pricing a home is also extremely important. Knowing the market in the area is key to helping sellers price their homes appropriately. Philadelphia has many unique neighborhoods. In a way, you are playing matchmaker. How do you help clients decipher what neighborhoods are the best fit for them? Amanda: In most instances, I find that people who

are purchasing a home in Philadelphia are familiar with the neighborhoods that they would like to focus their search. If they are a buyer who is moving from out-of-town, I try to get a feel for things they like to do whether it is things like being near green-space or going out to eat. There are others who are very into bikeability and walkability. It’s about getting an understanding of what their lifestyle is like so I can send listings that I think they will enjoy, and then have them visit those neighborhoods. What do you love about your job? Amanda: Helping people with their next chapter. If

you are buying or selling a home it’s a monumental event. Whether you are a single female buyer, newlyweds, or move-up buyers with a growing family, you are starting your next chapter. It’s an honor to be chosen to be a part of such a significant point in their life. What are some of your goals for 2021 and beyond? Amanda: Expanding my rental portfolio and

transitioning to investing and possibly out-of-state investing. Also, I’ve recently been accepted into

20 • October 2021

the Penn State Master Gardener Program and look forward to that beginning this fall. What advice would you give to new REALTORS®? Amanda: Don’t think you are going to learn

everything you need to know in the class. No deal is ever going to be the same. You are going to run into challenges. Keep an open mind that you don’t know everything but there is an opportunity to learn as you grow and get more deals under your belt. Make sure you sign on with a brokerage that offers plenty of educational opportunities. Give us the “Amanda Turske perfect day in Philadelphia” tour. Amanda: I’m a foodie and I love the Reading

Terminal, the Italian Market, and Chinatown. I could spend an entire day in any of these places. My husband and I love to stroll down Passyunk Avenue and stop for a drink at one place, go get appetizers at another restaurant, and do some shopping. It’s the perfect date night.

@realproducers

I TRY NOT TO TAKE ON TOO MANY CLIENTS AT ONCE. IT ALLOWS ME TO DEDICATE THE PROPER AMOUNT OF ONE-ON-ONE TIME TO MAKE CLIENTS COMFORTABLE.

Moving Forward as a Family

The bonds between people are stronger than the ebbs and flows of life or the ups and downs of the market. That’s a truth that is carried out in a powerful way each day by Earnest G. Key Jr. and Jacqui Key. Together, they form Philly’s Key Team with Keller Williams Philadelphia. As husband and wife, Earnest and Jacqui demonstrate how to move forward as a family with those they serve. “We strive to treat every client like they are a part of our family,” Jacqui

26 • October 2021

emphasizes. “We treat them the way we would want to be treated.” “We love helping people,” Earnest smiles. “The other day, one of our clients remarked about how we’re here to help, how we’re patient, and how we’re not about the money. That’s the kind of experience we set out to give every client.” Opening New Doors

Earnest is an Associate Broker and earned his real estate license and entered the business about six years ago. Jacqui joined him in the business nearly three years ago. But

their experience with real estate dates back well before then. About 16 years ago, they began investing in real estate. Ever since then, they have continued growing their own portfolio and have worked with many investors through time. Their story together started years ago, when they first met in school. “Jacqui and I met in college at St. Joseph’s University in June 2000. We became best friends, dated, and had our first child in college,” Earnest remembers.

@realproducers

In time, Earnest and Jacqui became involved with managing and leasing properties, then branched into residential real estate, eventually joining the same path together at REALTORS®. Appreciating Life as REALTORS®

From the start, Earnest and Jacqui appreciated the benefits of their new, entrepreneurial jump into real estate. “When I was working in the food and beverage business, my schedule was not conducive to raising a family,” Jacqui recalls. “At that point, we had two children. Some weeks, I was working 13-hour shifts, missing out on holidays, and working overnights to try to be available for the kids. When we were expecting our third child, that’s when I stayed home with our children and got into real estate. The flexibility and freedom that we have is a big factor of why we love this business.” “In my role as a probation and parole officer, I liked working with people, hearing their stories, and helping them,” Earnest says. “I’m doing similar work now … interviewing and helping people. The outcomes are more pleasant now.” Teaming Up in Life and Business

One of the most rewarding parts of their work is having the opportunity to work together. As Earnest says, “We have been inseparable since we were in college. We get to be that same way now. Jacqui pushes me to be better and sometimes I push her, too.”

During that time, Earnest remembers being approached with an idea that started to pique his interest in real estate. “One of our college mentors suggested that a group of us buy a house and then rent that out to students. While that wasn’t something that I ended up doing during college, it was something that I did pursue with Jacqui later. She and I bought student houses in the Temple area.” As Earnest and Jacqui started their family, they both had successful careers in other industries. Earnest was a probation and parole officer for 14 years, while Jacqui moved ahead through her work in the food and beverage industry.

realproducersmag.com

“I love the fact that we both have our strengths and weaknesses. We know those since we’ve been together so long,” Jacqui explains. “And we don’t really have a conversation about it. It just happens because we know each other so well. There is trust. We have great synergy.” Earnest agrees. “When it comes to synergy, ours is really phenomenal. We are both very similar when it comes to business, so there’s that trust,” he says. “We both know that the other person shares that same set of goals and drive.” Signs of Success

Their signs of success have been remarkable through time as a very successful team. In fact, as a Top Producer, Earnest has consistently ranked among the top 3 percent of REALTORS® among more than 18,000 agents in the area. Earnest and Jacqui are quick to shine the spotlight on their three team members, including Kaleandra Vicks, Daryl Smith, and Caryn Eaton.

Philadelphia Real Producers • 27

With a meaningful blend of experience, expertise, and caring, Earnest and Jacqui are making a powerful impact each day for area individuals and families … as an extension of their own family. In the process, they’re helping those around them move forward.

WE LOVE HELPING PEOPLE. THE Away from work, family is at the heart of life for Earnest and Jacqui. They look forward to time spent with their daughter, Xyalia, who is a freshman at Villanova and who is also pursuing her real estate license; their daughter Mikayla, who is a student at Central High School and has a passion for playing piano; and their 6-year-old daughter, Sophia, who is in first grade. In his free time, Earnest looks forward to working out at the gym each day, as well as playing Xbox and chess. Jacqui’s favorite activities revolve around getting outside time each day and taking walks as a family. They like to share time at the beach, too.

“One example of that is a client we worked with for three years. She had been living in a home with a hole in the roof, She and her children and grandchildren were sharing a room in the house with a space heater,” Earnest remembers. “Her credit was okay, but she didn’t have money for a down payment. I said, ‘No matter how long it takes, we’re going to get you into a new place.’ Once she closed on her new home, she said, ‘You showed us that you’re not just all talk. You kept your word.’”

OTHER DAY, ONE OF OUR CLIENTS REMARKED ABOUT HOW WE’RE HERE TO HELP, HOW WE’RE PATIENT, AND HOW WE’RE NOT ABOUT THE MONEY. THAT’S THE KIND OF EXPERIENCE WE SET OUT TO GIVE EVERY CLIENT.

When it comes to giving back, Earnest and Jacqui make an impact on the community by supporting the School District of Philadelphia. One initiative they started with the school district involves Earnest and Jacqui visiting various schools, and visiting with staff and parents, educating them about the possibility of homeownership. “When we have that opportunity to help people, it means so much to us when we hear them say they appreciate that we helped them believe,” Jacqui says. “They hadn’t thought homeownership was possible.” 28 • October 2021

Khalia LUFF SANKOFA SIGNINGS

Sankofa is a word from Ghana that translates, “it is not taboo to fetch what is at risk of being left behind.” In real estate, this word is especially applicable at the signing table, where a whole lot of hard work could be upended if a buyer or seller walks away. One reason clients love commissioned mobile notary Khalia Luff, owner of Sankofa Signings, is that she steadfastly gets everyone across the finish line. “Real estate has its own language,” Khalia says. “I can speak it in a way that buyers and sellers understand. I calmly answer any questions that come up and assure people about what happens next. Closing is a big moment for clients. Mobile notary services include Deed Packages, Loan Signings (Mortgages & Refinances), Renunciation Letters, Purchase and Sales Agreements, Power of Attorney, and Will documents. Khalia makes herself available anytime during the day, as early as needed and as late as 8 p.m., Monday through Friday. Her service area includes Philadelphia and within about 5 miles of the surrounding counties. Recently, Khalia became certified as a Remote Online Notary (RON) and will be up and running on a platform by the end of the year. “COVID is making online transactions the new normal,” she says. “As a RON, I can help you operate your business from wherever you are in the world and whenever you can’t be face-to-face with your clients. Sankofa Signings always looks to go above and beyond for ours. That’s our culture, and we are committed to excellence.” When Khalia isn’t working, she loves being with her 14-year-old daughter, Khyla. “She’s in 8th grade and enjoys making TikToks, listening to music,

acting, and filmmaking,” Khalia smiles. “But now she’s thinking about becoming an attorney. We both care deeply about social justice issues, making a difference in the community, changing policy, and increasing opportunity. I’m building a legacy for my daughter through my four real estate related businesses. But we also enjoy simple things like watching movies and doing our hair and nails. I love being a mom!” The symbol for ‘Sankofa’ is a bird with its feet facing forward and its head looking backward, with an egg in it’s mouth, a visual reminder to plant a seed for the future generations coming after us. Khalia takes the word and the image to heart. “Sankofa Signings ensures people can move on to their next goal while building generational wealth through real estate,” she says. “That’s a legacy any one of us in the industry is proud to leave behind.” To schedule a mobile signing or learn more, please call Khalia at 215-347-9762 or email sankofasignings@gmail.com

Abe & Rachel H AU P T

@realproducers

T H E H AU P T T E A M AT E L FA N T W I S SA H I C KO N R E A LTO R S ® Home is where the heart is, but for some, it’s at the workplace too. Since 2016, real estate powerhouse duo Abe and Rachel Haupt have turned their passion for real estate into an empire, closing deals while promoting business integrity, creativity, and grit. Now, The Haupt Team is laser-focused on getting each client to the closing table and earning their business for life. Before real estate, a propensity for business mixed with a knack for entrepreneurship fueled Abe to forge a path from college to law school in the early 2000s. While lawyers play an integral role in society, Abe quickly realized he could better utilize his talents elsewhere, so he got his real estate license in 2006. “The reason I left law school and got into real estate is when people come to me now, they’re excited, they’re happy, and they’re improving their lives,” Abe said. “Oftentimes when people think of lawyers, somebody is in trouble, or somebody did something wrong. Maybe there’s a divorce happening, or somebody died. I’m much happier in real estate. If I’m going to take someone on as a client, you better believe I’m going to work my darnedest to make their dreams come true.” The stars aligned for Abe and Rachel when they met in 2012 and instantly formed a strong connection. “I didn’t tell her that night, but after I met her, I canceled all the other dates I had planned because I knew immediately that she was ‘the one.’

Of course, you don’t say that during your first date because that makes you sound creepy,” Abe said, laughing. “But, I later found out from her that she wrote in her diary that I was ‘the one’ too.” It didn’t take Abe and Rachel long to realize they were better together personally and professionally. “A lot of folks say that I’m kind of like the river and she’s like the hydroelectric plant,” Abe said. Her strengths complement his weaknesses and vice versa. They married in 2015. In 2016, the couple formed The Haupt Team. Now, Abe and Rachel co-lead 10 other agents at Elfant Wissahickon REALTORS®. It is well-known among business owners that a business is only as successful as its employees. The same can be said about The Haupt Team. “We’re only as good as our team,” Rachel said. She and Abe place the utmost importance on the happiness and development of their team members. The Haupt Team comprises agents at all levels in their careers, from fully established agents to those just getting their feet wet in the industry. An innate desire to pay it forward is one of Abe and Rachel’s driving forces. They want to guide their agents and help them navigate the industry, just as someone did for them when they were starting. For The Haupt Team, their work has little to do with sales and commission checks; they truly have their clients’ best interest at heart, even if it means losing a sale. “We would never put a client in a

house that wasn’t right for them just to secure a deal,” Rachel said. She once showed a client 90 houses over two years before they found the right property. “It didn’t bother me at all because that’s what they needed to do to figure out what was right for them; I was just there to facilitate it.” Abe and Rachel hand-pick team members that share those same values. The Haupt Team is made up of real estate professionals who genuinely love what they do and want to see their clients succeed. Abe and Rachel were both born and raised in Philly and the suburbs. Real estate is seemingly in Abe’s blood— his great-grandfather, grandmother, and uncle were all Realtors—so it’s no surprise that he chose this industry. In both life and business, Abe and Rachel operate by The Golden Rule and treat others how they want to be treated. “I love so many things about this business,” Abe said. “I love talking to people; I love helping people; I love being nice and when people are nice to me, and just putting positivity into the universe.” While their business is often at the forefront of Abe and Rachel’s minds, there’s nothing more important to them than Spencer, their adorable 3-year-old

son. “He is a great kid,” Abe said proudly. “He’s absolutely a treasure.” Abe also loves politics and campaigning. “Not the fighting aspect of it, but I like to support good candidates of both parties who are working towards common ground,” he said. Abe has also been known to throw very successful fundraisers. The Haupts give 3-5% of their annual earnings to a variety of nonprofit organizations. Since his early 20s, Abe has been on a mission to make the world a better place, something he strives to stay true to today. “I’m 44; I can’t change the world, but I can make it better for the people around me. Working in real estate, you can make a major impact on people’s lives,” Abe said. “Around the holidays, when I’m scrolling through Facebook or Instagram, and I see my clients opening presents in the houses that I sold them, I get a chill up my spine. I love it. “I love that a lot of my clients have come back to me; they bought with me five years ago, and now they’re using me again. I stay in touch with all of my clients. We do dinner dates with our clients long after the sale. No sale is final; this is a referral business, and you’re only as good as your name,” Abe added.

celebrating leaders Written by: Dave Danielson Photography by: PLUSH Image Corporation

REID

ROSENTHAL The Rosenthal Group at BHHS Fox & Roach REALTORS® The Drive to Guide Success

An All-In Approach

Leadership comes in many forms. In fact, no two leaders are the same. They each bring their own individual gifts and vision to their work. But if you were to come up with a list of desired attributes for a leader, one that would definitely top the list is the drive to help others.

When you talk with Reid, it’s easy to see the passion he has for the profession. “One of the most rewarding parts is seeing happy clients at the end of the transaction,” Reid explains. Getting His Start

That’s a spirit that is alive and well with Reid Rosenthal. Reid is Associate Broker with The Rosenthal Group with Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices Fox & Roach, REALTORS®. Those who get a chance to know and work with Reid appreciate his drive to guide success for those around him. “One of the things I love the most about what I do is having the opportunity to be creative and marketing our team to set ourselves apart. Also, I love finding ways to make sure our agents are happy, that they’re learning and that they’re doing well for themselves,” Reid emphasizes.

44 • October 2021

As a native of the Philadelphia area, Reid had an inside look at the industry that he would eventually work in himself. “My parents have always been in the business, so I really grew up around it,” Reid says. “I got my license and worked with them during the summer breaks from school. It was a great way to make some money, learn more about the business and help them at the same time.” As Reid came of age and completed school, he explored another path at first. He moved to California and began his career working as an assistant at Creative Artists Agency (CAA) in Los Angeles.

“I stayed there for about a year. It was long enough for me to realize that being an assistant at an entertainment agency wasn’t something I wanted to do for an extended period of time,” Reid says. “I also realized I wanted to be closer to my family so I moved back to the east coast. As part of that, I wanted to start my own business.” Gaining Ground

Business was good during the early 2000s. Through time, Reid continued

others to break new ground and providing support along the way.

learning, growing and building his business through market ups and downs. Better Together

Today, he leads The Rosenthal Group. “We have a team of 21 energetic and focused agents. We’re very good about communicating. We have weekly meetings, and it’s a collaborative environment, where people help each other out,” Reid says. In the process, Reid’s leadership style is very empowering … encouraging

“I run the team very much in a way where everyone is thinking entrepreneurially,” he says. “Sometimes when people enter real estate, they think it should be easy. But it’s not. Especially if you’re involved with residential real estate, you really have to bring an entrepreneurial mindset to your work, whether as part of a team or as an individual agent. What I like to do in the process is to give them a road map for success, and it always begins with having the correct mindset and a clear vision of your individual goals.” In addition to Reid, the members of The Rosenthal Group include: Alivia Adams, Andrew Blumberg, Gregory D’Amico, Alene Dordick, Madeline Ferrara, Lana Greene, Susan Gross, Joelle Lavin, Amanda Magid, Colleen McHugh, Samantha Milner, Jamie Reutzel, Arielle Roemer, Brett Rosenthal, Brooke Rosenthal, Larry Rosenthal, Melissa Rosenthal, Rhonda Rosenthal, Beth Smith, Sandy Ware, Oren Wineburgh and Brian Wolk.

Together, The Rosenthal Group has achieved remarkable results. In fact, in 2020, the team amassed over $100 million in sales volume. This year, they’re on track to record $150 million in sales volume. Fulfilling Life

Away from work, Reid looks forward to time spent with family, including his wife, Brooke, and their 3-year-old daughter, Vivian, as well as his parents, Rhonda and Larry, and his brothers, Brett and Chad, and his extended family. In his free time, Reid has a passion for music. He plays the guitar. He also has a long-term love of ice hockey. And, when it comes to giving back, Reid has been involved with supporting the Ronald McDonald House and an annual donation to CHOP. Each day, Reid brings his knack for problem solving to his work — making an impact with his relentless drive to help others achieve lasting success.

One of the things I love the most about what I do is having the opportunity to be creative and marketing our team to set ourselves apart. Also, I love finding ways to make sure our agents are happy, that they’re learning and that they’re doing well for themselves.

FAQ ABOUT THIS MAGAZINE

Real Producers magazine started in Indianapolis in 2015 and is now in over 100 markets across the nation and spreading rapidly. Philadelphia REAL Producers launched in May 2019. Name a large city and we are there or will be soon! In every market, we take the Top 500 agents, based off of the MLS production, and we build an exclusive magazine around those agents. We share their stories, successes, market trends, upcoming events — really, anything that will connect, inform and inspire, we put in the monthly publication. We strive to inform and inspire the top producing real estate agents in the local market and connect them socially. The secondary focus is to provide an avenue for our affiliate partners to create relationships with these top performers on a level that they might not be able to achieve on their own. Q: WHO RECEIVES Philadelphia REAL Producers MAGAZINE? A: The top 500 agents whose brokerage is located in Philadelphia County based on total Volume production reported to BRIGHT MLS for the previous calendar year. Approximately 18,000 agents are licensed in Philadelphia county. We cut the list off at #500, and the distribution list was born. The 2021 Top 500 cutoff is $4 million (based on total volume production numbers from 2020). The list will reset at the end of the year and will continue to update annually. Q: WHAT IS THE PROCESS FOR BEING FEATURED IN THIS MAGAZINE? A: It’s really simple — every feature you see has first been nominated. You can nominate other REALTORS®, affiliates, brokers, owners, or even yourself! Office leaders can also nominate REALTORS®. We will consider anyone brought to our attention who is in the Top 500 because we don’t know everyone’s story, so we need your help to learn about them.

50 • October 2021

A nomination currently looks like this: You email us at josh. buchter@realproducersmag.com with the subject line, “Nomination: (Name of Nominee).” Please explain why you are nominating them to be featured. It could be they have an amazing story that needs to be told — perhaps they overcame extreme obstacles, they are an exceptional leader, have the best customer service, or they give back to the community in a big way, etc. The next step is an interview with us to ensure it’s a good fit. If it all works out, then we put the wheels in motion for our writer to conduct an interview to write the article and for our photographers to schedule a photoshoot. Q: WHAT DOES IT COST A REALTOR® /TEAM TO BE FEATURED? A: Zero, zilch, zippo, nada, nil. It costs nothing, my friends, so nominate away! We are not a pay-to-play model. We share real stories of real producers. Q: WHO ARE THE PREFERRED PARTNERS? A: Anyone listed as a “preferred partner” in the front of the magazine is a part of this community. They will have an ad in every issue of the magazine, attend our quarterly events, and be a part of our online community. We don’t just find these businesses off the street, nor do we work with all businesses that approach us. One of many of the top agents has recommended every single preferred partner you see in this publication. We won’t even meet with a business that has not been vetted by one of you and “stamped for approval,” in a sense. Our goal is to create a powerhouse network, not only for the best REALTORS® in the area but the best affiliates, as well, so we can grow stronger together. Q: HOW CAN I RECOMMEND A PREFERRED PARTNER? A: If you know and want to recommend a local business that works with top REALTORS®, please email us to let us know at josh.buchter@realproducersmag.com.

I'm that guy! Let's close that deal together! “The homebuying experience is so many more emotions than I was EVER expecting, being it was my first time. Paul answered all my questions, no matter how silly they may have seemed and didn't make me feel silly asking! Everything was relayed in terms that weren't always "industry" language, very easy to follow. Extremely responsive and always available. The real difference was how personal the experience felt, the kindness and understanding was above & beyond while remaining the most professional.”
