Free first appointment tinnitus guide for GPs A free guide is being circulated to GPs providing guidance on how to help the half-amillion tinnitus patients with acute tinnitus. Yearly, 750,000 GP visits in England are tinnitus related with 63% of patients leaving without treatment or guidance due to a lack of primary care training on tinnitus. self-manage some symptoms. Tinnitus patient, Sheila Starritt of Tonbridge, Kent said: “My experience was awful. I had negative and unhelpful comments from some doctors. I felt no one understood the nightmare the tinnitus was causing me.” To download the guide and information on the new Acute Tinnitus Therapy from The Tinnitus Clinic please visit http://www. thetinnitusclinic.co.uk/downloads/GP_ Brochure_Download.pdf For further information contact: The Tinnitus Clinic T: +44 (0)203 597 4988 E: enquiries@thetinnitusclinic.co.uk

Confidence in surgery with the Cochlear™ Nucleus® CR220 Intraoperative Remote Assistant As a result of its commitment to continuously improve hearing outcomes and facilitate clinical practice, Cochlear™ Nucleus® CR220 Intraoperative Remote Assistant has recently been introduced, making intraoperative measurements much simpler and faster. The CR220 Intraoperative Remote Assistant is an easyto-use handheld device which allows professionals to perform intraoperative testing, such as impedance and neural response telemetry (AutoNRT®) measurements. Dr Phillip Chang, a Cochlear Implant Surgeon at the Sydney Children’s Hospital and St Vincent’s Hospital confirmed the benefits provided by this new device: “We’ve been reassured at the end of the operation by intraoperative remote NRT that the electrode is in the optimal place in the cochlea.” In addition, the CR220 helps to: • Reduce complexity, by minimising the equipment needed in the operating room to perform measurements. • Save time in setting up and conducting testing, as the measurements across the

22 electrodes of a cochlear implant are performed in four minutes only. Finally, the AutoNRT measurements from the CR220 can be imported to Cochlear’s clinical software, making sound processor fitting easier and potentially faster. Radiofrequency for head and neck tumour surgery

Radiofrequency has been established in numerous clinical studies as a reliable effective and safe method of treatment for patients with hyperplastic turbinates, tonsils and in some snoring patients. A new evaluation demonstrates that the use of the BM-780 II radiofrequency generator from Sutter Medizintechnik (Germany) performs very well in the resection of head

and neck tumours. Doctors Hussain and Stuck used the radiofrequency generator with a straight electrode to resect an oral squamous cell carcinoma and noted the following advantages versus laser resection: less thermal damage, less bleeding uncompromised resection borders and intact tumour tissue. The lack of thermal damage at the resection borders played an important role in this case

Lindsey Neil to join Turtle Beach Corporation as new National Sales Manager for Hypersound Business Leading-edge audio technology company Turtle Beach Corporation has announced Lindsey Neil will be joining the company as National Sales Manager for the UK and Irish markets for Turtle Beach’s HyperSound business. “It was crucial that we found an addition to our team who would fit our ethos of innovation and exceptional service, and we’re very lucky to have such an experienced, highcalibre professional like Lindsey Neil join us,” said Chris Auty, Managing Director EMEA and APAC for the HyperSound business at Turtle Beach Corporation. “Lindsey’s appointment as National Sales Manager, UK & Ireland is a sign

of our commitment to supporting hearing healthcare professionals across the region.” Lindsey brings with her over a decade in leadership across business development strategies, creative sales campaigns and consulting services. She previously served as Product & Service Manager for Unitron Canada, as well as Hearing Instrument Specialist Clinic Manager at Hear for Life & St Thomas Hearing Clinic. “I’m incredibly excited about the opportunity to introduce HyperSound Clear™ to the UK and Irish markets,” said Lindsey Neil, a former graduate from the University of Western Ontario. “My main goal will be to enhance and expand the opportunities for hearing healthcare providers to help their patients and grow their businesses.” HyperSound is Turtle Beach Corporation’s

fundamentally new approach to sound delivery that uses thin panels to generate an ultrasound beam that carries audio through the air. The panels direct sound in a narrow, controlled beam; much the way a flashlight directs a beam of light. When an individual enters the beam’s radius, they hear immersive 3D audio, similar to wearing a surround sound headset, and HyperSound Clear has been shown to improve sound clarity and speech intelligibility in individuals with certain types of hearing loss. Neuromod announces €5.5 million in financing to advance neuromodulation based medical device to treat chronic tinnitus This investment by Fountain Healthcare marks a significant milestone for Neuromod and brings the total raised by the company to-date to over €8 million ($9 million).

mutebutton®

Neuromod Devices Limited (Neuromod), an Irish medical device company specialising in the treatment of chronic tinnitus, has raised €5.5 million ($6.2million) in Series A Funding from international life sciences venture capital fund Fountain Healthcare Partners. The investment will be used to further enhance scientific and clinical understanding of its bi-modal neuromodulation device, mutebutton®, and commence US clinical trials of the device. The international launch of mutebutton® is targeted for 2018.

Neuromod’s non-invasive mutebutton® device uses bi-modal neuromodulation via simultaneous auditory stimulation in the ear and sensory stimulation on the tongue to promote positive changes in neuroplasticity in parts of the brain implicated in tinnitus. Recent developments in international tinnitus research have uncovered many forms of tinnitus and bi-modal neuromodulation is emerging as one of the most promising therapies for certain forms of the condition. Neuromod has already generated promising clinical data with the mutebutton® in over 50 people suffering from chronic tinnitus, thereby validating its approach. Results from this study are soon to be published in a peer reviewed journal.

Neuromod will use the proceeds from the investment to advance dose optimisation and patient sub-typing research, commence US clinical trials and promote its international adoption as the next generation treatment for chronic tinnitus. Neuromod received a medical device CE mark in Europe in October 2014 for the mutebutton® device and was granted a US Patent for its technology in September 2015. Dr Ross O’Neill, Founding CEO of Neuromod, commented, “Neuromod is delighted to announce this investment, which will help us to advance our unique chronic tinnitus treatment technology. As an emerging company we welcome the support and knowledge offered to us from partnering with an experienced international life sciences venture capital fund such as Fountain Healthcare Partners.” For further information contact: Neuromod www.neuromoddevices.com/
