ABOUT THE SPEAKER Dr. Rocklin is a physical therapist with 18 years’ clinical experience and a partner in Therapeutic Associates, the United States’ largest physical therapist-owned physical therapy company. He attended graduate school at Pacific University in Forest Grove, Oregon and earned his Physical Therapy degree with distinction in 1998. Step one: Build a new website. Step three: Win clients. But what about step two?

Shockwave Treatments: Tendinothies and Beyond

The benefits of electrotherapy are clinically proven and now recognised by both physiotherapists and doctors working in the field of pain relief and rehabilitation across the world.

Shockwave therapy is now the gold standard for treating lower limb tendinopathies, but the applications extend far beyond.

Cliff Eaton MSc BSC (Hons) MCSP has spent his career working in professional sport at an elite level. This is a competitive environment where success is determined by outcomes. He has published in internationally-recognised journals on sport specific rehabilitation and believes in the three core skills advocated by the Chartered Society of Physiotherapists: manual therapy, exercise therapy, and electrotherapy. By combining these into a patient’s recovery and a return to activities of daily living, he considers it to be essential in providing the best medical care for patients.

evidence to support the efficacy in using electrotherapy,” he continued. “Due to the reduced emphasis placed on electrotherapy at undergraduate level for physiotherapists, the former may be understandable, human nature being what it is. It will be understandable that newly qualified physiotherapists will be anxious about using electrotherapy; a lack of evidence there is not.

“There is a current trend to promote a ‘hands on only’ approach to physical therapy these days,” Cliff says. “Many physical therapists I have spoken to cite lack of understanding or the lack of

There is, however, a lack of awareness and understanding of the relevant literature, and this is what we wish to promote on this course, combined with a large practical element. In this way we aim to ensure the therapists feel confident in using electrotherapy within their treatment paradigms.”

WEDNESDAY | 11.00 THEATRE 5

THERMOREGULATION AS A KEY PARAMETER FOR SECURITY AND PERFORMANCES ABOUT THE SPEAKER Sebastien has been the cofounder and managing director of BodyCap since September 2014. He has been a university lecturer since 2004; Sebastien’s ability to lead research was nurtured at University of Caen, Normandy, France. He received his doctorate in Sciences and Techniques of Physical and Sports Activities in 2002.

During exercise in hot environments, thermal stress is amplified by the external temperature and the environment’s humidity. The saturation of the body’s thermoregulation mechanism can quickly cause hyperthermia to levels that may cause nausea, fainting, or death. There are ways to monitor core body temperature during warm-up, competition, and recovery periods. The data can then be used to correlate thermoregulation with performance; this enables the development of customised training protocols for each athlete.

PROVEN & HIGHLY ENGAGING FULL BODY VIRTUAL REHABILITATION GestureTek Health is the inventor and world leader of video gesture-controlled immersive displays for rehabilitation, assistive technology, and highly engaging health facility environments.

Interactive Rehabilitation and Exercise System (IREX®) uses immersive video gesture control technology to place patients into virtual sport or gaming environments where they are guided through clinician-prescribed therapeutic exercise regimes. Clinicians can design a fun and interactive exercise program that tests single joints, combined joint movements, or full body function. Patients are immersed in a full-body virtual world where they can interact with on-screen images and objects, designed to enhance the sense of presence for the patient. Real-time auditory and visual feedback further stimulates the patient, resulting in improved motivation and effort in rehabilitation exercises. Quantitative data is saved on each patient’s activities and progress in every application.

Medical research confirms that IREX virtual therapy is beneficial for patients with cognitive and physical disabilities, including those with cerebral palsy, autism, Alzheimer’s and dementia, as well as those recovering from stroke and traumatic brain injury. IREX is completely gesture-controlled and does not require patients to wear, hold, or touch anything special, or use any peripheral device. All activities are low impact activities and can be made more challenging as patient mobility improves.

“Patients are immersed in a full-body virtual world where they can interact with on-screen images and objects, designed to enhance the sense of presence for the patient.”

VALUE ADDING SERVICES FOR CHIROPRACTORS, OSTEOPATHS & PHYSIOS Retail Secure provide a number of must-have services for the healthcare industry. Our PCI compliant cyber security solution, RetailCompli, will protect the future of your business, while Legally Compliant Guest WiFi gives you the platform to excel.

Protect Your Clinic from the Very Real Threat of a Data Breach The risk of a data breach is growing by the day, and it is something that no business can afford to ignore, especially those in the healthcare sector. Cyber criminals are increasingly targeting the healthcare industry, as they recognise that a lot of clinics are using out-dated software and do not invest substantially in cyber security. Moreover, these cyber criminals can make a killing by selling medical records on the black market. Could you really afford to come back from the thousands of pounds lost in terms of fraud losses, remediation expenses, and noncompliance fines? That’s not the only thing you will have to contend with. Your reputation will be in tatters, and this can be something that is incredibly difficult and expensive to fix, especially when confidentiality is so important in this industry. Don’t make the error of thinking your business is immune. Small companies are just as much at risk as large businesses are. In fact, 74 per cent of small organisations were breached in 2015. So, what do you do? Blow your budget on an elaborate cyber security system you can’t afford and don’t really understand? There’s no need! RetailCompli is an affordable, straightforward

network security solution. This cloud-based service is a PCI DSS Level 1 certified solution. PCI DSS is a set of requirements that all businesses need to follow if they take payments via debit or

“Don’t make the error of thinking your business is immune. 74 per cent of small organisations were breached in 2015.” credit card. Not only is our solution 100 per cent compliant but it reduces the chance of a breach significantly. One way we do this is via LAN segregation. We will create a separate Cardholder Data Environment (CDE) ensuring payment data, medical records and all other confidential data is segregated from everything else on your network so that access is restricted. Other features include a sophisticated firewall, 24/7 monitoring, and 3G/4G back-up.

behind schedule. This is something that is assured to attract more customers and increase satisfaction amongst current ones. With our solution, you can also make the most of many unique marketing opportunities. This includes a customised landing page and real-time insights about all of your connected customers. You can use this to send targeted marketing messages and information, such as tips about pain management or a discount for friend referrals. Unlike a lot of other solutions on the market, our Guest WiFi service is 100 per cent compliant with all applicable legislation, including the Data Protection Acts and Digital Economy Act. You can also use our content filtering feature to ensure all inappropriate content is blocked. Reliability and performance is also assured, as all of our hardware is certified for commercial use.

Attract More Customers, Boost Satisfaction and Increase Profits with Guest WiFi Our Legally Compliant Guest WiFi solution is the perfect way to enhance the service you provide at your clinic. Guest WiFi is something customers now demand. By providing it, you can ensure your clients are kept busy while waiting for their appointment, especially if things are running

HIPTRAC: KEEPING PEOPLE MOVING Osteoarthritis (OA) is a disorder of the joints caused by progressive loss of cartilage alongside other changes in the joint. OA of the hip occurs between and around the ball and socket of the hip joint and is the most common diagnosis for pain in the hip and unfortunately there is no cure for osteoarthritis. The hip joint is truly amazing and doing everything you can to maintain your joint for as long as possible without surgical intervention is advisable. The first line of treatment recommended to any one diagnosed with degenerative changes in the hip is exercise and manual therapy. Studies that have investigated the combination of manual therapy techniques (focusing on increasing capsular mobility of the hip) and therapeutic exercise have shown excellent results.

The first and most widely used manual therapy technique to improve general hip joint capsular mobility and decrease pain is termed Long Axis Hip Traction. HipTrac is a device that replicates the manual therapy technique of long axis traction and can be used in the clinic setting or at home. The easy to use and portable design allows for regular therapy beyond the clinic in a place and a time that is convenient to you. HipTrac is also indicated for use with other hip conditions that cause pain at the hip and can be used as part of a rehabilitation process working with a manual therapist (physiotherapist, chiropractor or osteopath). Combining manual therapy with specific therapeutic exercises shows the greatest promise for conservative treatment of hip osteoarthritis. By increasing mobility and decreasing pain, you are better able to perform long-term exercise routines for decreasing weight, increasing flexibility, and increasing

biomechanical strength. These conservative measures can decrease the need for medications, improve morale, improve functionality, and most of all, improve quality of life. The earlier you start conservative management of hip pain the better the long-term outcomes. So if you have any pain or niggle in the hips get it assessed by a manual therapist. Whether you are a potential patient or manual therapist for further information on HipTrac visit www.hiptrac.co.uk or contact HipTrac UK Limited on 0115 882 0733.
