Oak Ridge resident Riz Raven, aka “Riz the Wiz,” entertained the afternoon crowd with his magic tricks.

Children enjoyed sharing their Christmas wishes with Santa and Mrs. Claus.

A record crowd attended Oak Ridge’s Light Up the Night event, expanded this year to include the Grinch hayride and “Riz the Wiz” magician, with craft vendors and food trucks adding to the festivities. The town’s Christmas tree was lit at dusk, along with 1,000 luminaries along park walkways. “Children especially enjoyed visiting Santa and Mrs. Claus, assisted by elves Catey and Alora Engel. Several children were convinced the elves were real because they had pointy ears!” said Patti Dmuchowski, chairperson for Oak Ridge Special Events Committee (SEC), which sponsored the event. Summit Church provided free hot cocoa as Christmas carolers roamed the illuminated pathways. SEC member Caroline Ruch spearheaded Light Up the Night, with the help of fellow committee members and volunteers from Northwest Guilford Woman’s Club, Oak Ridge Garden Club, Lions Club and the town’s Parks and Rec Board.

Destination Arts’ dance students of all ages showed off some impressive dance movements while performing to holiday music.
