The new gravel entrance on Brookbank Road is across from the Armfield subdivision on Wyatt Drive and south of the Henson Farms subdivision. The new entry provides the safest access for trucks and equipment doing the work, Couch said in a text last week.
Couch, CEO of Blue Ridge Cos., has proposed the residential and commercial development of Summerfield Farms and several other parcels totaling about 1,000 acres from Summerfield Road to Interstate 73. The area where workers cut down trees is part of property he wants to develop.
Couch paused his development plans in August, however, citing “divisiveness in the community.” He told the Summerfield Planning Board he was withdrawing his application for a text amendment to the town’s development regulations allowing for higher density residential development than currently allowed by zoning rules. He said he plans to return with another proposal for the development of his property.

NW GREENSBORO – The owners of nearly 33 acres abutting Lewiston Road and Caldwell Academy on Horse Pen Creek Road are seeking a rezoning that would allow construction of a mix of multi-family housing such as apartments and single-family houses. The Greensboro Zoning Commission has scheduled a public hearing next Monday, Dec. 20, to gather residents’ feedback on the rezoning request for CD-RM-5 (condi30 DEC. 16, 2021 - JAN. 5, 2022 The Northwest Observer • Totally local since 1996 tional district – residential multi-family – density of 5 units per acre or less).
The land is across Lewiston Road from the Bridleton Ridge subdivision, which has begun its second phase of construction. The property is divided into three parcels, with one currently zoned for office development and the other two on Straw Hat Road and Horse Pen Creek Road zoned for residential development, according to property reports. A portion of the property is located in the airport overlay district, limiting residential development to 40,000-square-foot, singlefamily lots.
