Introduction PSEM - Projeto de Sustentabilidade Energética Móvel - is a group of students from different degrees at Instituto Superior Técnico, who share a passion for engineering, technology and motor sports. Our goal consists on the construction and optimization of an electric prototype designed to compete in the Greenpower Challenge. Thus, in order to overcome the various challenges, the team has to come up with innovative ideas and use rather advanced technologies, while applying the academic knowledge provided by the university. Since 2013, 3 prototypes have been created – GP14, GP17, and our latest car, GP19. All these vehicles possess a 240W motor which, in automotive terms, corresponds to a third of a horsepower. However, despite the low power, our prototypes show great efficiency, reaching up to 70km/h using only two 12V batteries with an autonomy of 1 hour. This Commercial Proposal aims to depict the different forms of collaboration and sponsorship between PSEM and external entities. Being associated with the project would provide the opportunity to support a motorsport team that promotes sustainable practices, as well as publicize the brand, product and service to a wide national and international audience.

GP14 GP14 was the first prototype to be developed, having undergone two evolutions ever since, which allowed to extend the vehicle’s life cycle until 2016. It is currently exposed at the entrance to the North Tower, on the Alameda Campus of Instituto Superior Técnico. GP17 When designing the GP17, the main objective was to improve the weaknesses of GP14, so the team focused on achieving a lighter and more compact package, with a smaller frontal area. It was also the first prototype built with a carbon fiber monocoque and core, paving the way for the future generations. GP17 received an upgrade package giving place to GP17 EVO, having competed between 2017 and 2019. It is currently used for events and exhibitions, as well as for testing the controller that is being developed for the latest prototypes. GP19 GP19 began to be developed at the end of 2018 with the aim of correcting GP17’s Achilles heel: its aerodynamics. Since GP17 proved to be a rather reliable platform, the team decided to keep the main mechanical systems for its successor.

Due to the pandemic situation in 2020, the participation of GP19 in the competitions it was designed for was greatly compromised. During this period of remote work, the team started developing GP21, therefore some of the systems designed for it were also incorporated into GP19, as in the case of Acquisition and Telemetry. This is the prototype that is currently competing in Greenpower events, while also making some appearances at other events and fairs, both within Instituto Superior Técnico and at national level.

GP21: Under Construction! GP21 promises to be the most competitive prototype to date. With both better aerodynamics than GP19 and a structural component that makes use of composite materials often used in the aerospace industry, the aim is to obtain a lightweight and reliable package, similar to what was seen in GP17. Regarding the electronic components, in addition to the Acquisition and Telemetry systems that have already been implemented in GP19, GP21 will be the first to have a power controller developed from scratch by the team, which will guarantee a highly efficient management of the current that goes into the engine.
ACKERMANN GEOMETRY The steering arms were designed to comply with the Ackermann Principle, guaranteeing minimal friction when cornering.
CARBON FIBER Aerodynamic carbon fibre bodywork and a structural component with carbon fibre core
