Telehealth can provide benefits to patients, healthcare providers, and to community projects. This award will recognise the organisation that demonstrates the most innovative use of use of information and communication technology (ICT) to deliver health services, expertise and information over distance.

H Kent Community Health NHS Foundation Trust The WoundMatrix Patient Telehealth app was developed during Covid-19, whereby a patient can capture and upload images directly to their WoundMatrix patient record for immediate assessment by their clinician. Following some training as to how to treat the wound, small stock of dressing is retained by the patient for their use as required. This provides more clinical time for each patient, reduces the number of unnecessary home visits and, eventually, will make a significant contribution to the NHS ‘ net zero initiatives. The core functionality of the WoundMatrix software has been utilised by the Trust for the past four years and is being used as part of the National Wound Care Strategy Programme implementation delivery project. This system is used by nurses and health care assistants in the community that when confronted with a more complex wound than anticipated, can capture the image and send it through to a tissue viability specialist for a second opinion. H TEC Cymru | Digital Health Wales In March 2020, the Welsh Government commissioned TEC Cymru to establish the NHS Wales Video Consulting Service. The initiative was unprecedented and fast-paced. In the first seven weeks, 87 per cent of GP practices were technically enabled, trained and ‘live’. Shortly after, VCS rolled out to secondary, therapies and community care services, followed by dentistry, pharmacy and optometry. This unparalleled service has now surpassed over 260,000 consultations, across more than 100 specialties. TEC Cymru embedded evaluation right from the start; KPIs, as well data driven reporting and evaluation – which is usually limited to small datasets – were adopted and embedded from the outset. Rigorous evaluation of the new service took place, and a total of 22,978 clinician and patient surveys and 178 semi-structured interviews with clinicians and patients were analysed.

H Newcastle Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust Surgeons in Newcastle have become the first in the world to pilot a new robotic surgery telementoring system. The technology developed by Intuitive – the makers of the da Vinci robots used by surgeons at the Newcastle Hospitals – allows surgeon mentors to virtually enter the operating theatre during robotic surgery from anywhere in the world through a secure digital platform. The technology means clinicians can work more collaboratively and support each other, particularly during more complex cases, without the need to travel – an important development with travel restricted due to the pandemic. It also enables the real-time exchange of audio and video between the surgeons in the operating theatre and the remote mentoring surgeon. Newcastle Hospitals is the only hospital trust providing robotic surgery in eight specialties. H Liverpool City Council / Medication Support Company Home care visits in care plans for people who need help to take their medicines are expensive. Liverpool City Council has implemented of an internet-based monitoring service which provides remote access to pharmacists from residents’ own homes. The pilot study revealed that 97 per cent now take their medicines correctly, saving in the region of £345,000 and reducing footfall to NHS services.
