Scholarship information Scholarships for current or potential Portland Public School employees The Helen Farrens Library Media Scholarship is awarded to students in the Library Media program who are: • Current PPS teachers obtaining a library media endorsement • Current PPS library media aides working toward a library media endorsement or license • Students who intend to work in PPS upon graduation The scholarship committee gives preference to applicants with financial need, previous teaching experience, and who are currently employed by Portland Public Schools. • Successful completion of this program and passing the required subject area exam lead to recommendation to the Oregon Teacher Standards and Practices Commission (TSPC)
• Prepares students to be a K–12 school librarian only, not a classroom teacher

• Students enrolled in either the PSU Library Media endorsement or Initial K–12 License programs can earn a master’s degree with some additional coursework
• This 16-credit program has five required courses, plus electives
• You may earn a master’s degree for an additional 16 credits
• Students may put this coursework toward the MA/MS in Library Media
• This program is offered primarily online with periodic on-campus meetings
• Ask your adviser about equivalent courses from other universities and colleges
• Students will take a master’s exam as the final step to complete their degree
• Accommodations can be made for students with special circumstances
• Applicants must have passing scores on either the CBEST (California Basic Educational Skills Test) or PPST (Pre-Professional Skills Test)
• Students who already have an endorsement from another university may transfer up to 15 graduate credits
• Students must hold a current teaching license in order to add the endorsement • Students must contact a Library Media adviser to plan a program of study course
