A national charity has just launched a brilliant new studio for young people aged 7+ in a bid to get more kids active and enjoying sport. Whether you want to try studio cycling, judo, Street basketball, 5treet football, dance, yoga, RugbyPlay or many more activities
– you will find them at Yarborough Leisure Centre’s Studio3 in Lincoln! There’s even a Rock School! Leading sport and exercise charity Active Nation came up with this exciting plan as part of its bold mission to persuade the nation to be active! Active Nation’s Louise Vacca said: “We passionately believe that everyone should be getting active and we didn’t want to leave school age children out of our campaign!
“We want Studio3 to be a motivational, yet unintimidating space where children and young people can actively be involved in something exciting and somewhere that belongs to them – their own space away from everything else!” Right now more than one in three children are overweight or obese before they leave primary school – increasing their risk of cancer, diabetes, heart disease and many other serious and potentially life threatening conditions. Louise added: “With Studio3 we are giving young people in Lincoln and the surrounding villages the opportunity to come and have fun and try lots of different sports and

Lincolnshire Youths Record Charity Single
Over the last 18 months Tattershall Farm Park has undergone a transformation Since changing hands last year it has been expanded to include an 'Animal Trail' - a beautiful paddock where Jeffrey the Highland Cow lives along with Alpacas, Goats, Ponies, Belted Galloway Cows, Donkeys and Rhea. Rare breed Lincoln Longwool sheep also live there with their lambs.
Children from Lincolnshire have been working hard in the recording studio at Lincoln University. 18 children from across the Lincolnshire area have been chosen to record a charity single for International Bomber Command Centre. Tears of the World is being recorded to help raise the final elements of funding needed to get the Chadwick Centre at the IBCC completed. This will provide an educational and informative facility for all ages but with a particular focus on 7-18 year olds, with specialist facilities and dedicated staff. Jim Dooley from the 1970’s group The Dooley’s, has been helping to make this single a reality. Jim says “Lincolnshire youngsters, who have so many connections to the RAF and its heritage have done a fantastic job, performing on this new fundraising single”. The song ‘Tears Of The World’ will be releases in time for Remembrance Day, you will be able to download the track from ITunes. You can get up to date information about the release on our Facebook page ‘Make Tears Of The World NO.1’
As well as the 3-story Soft Play, 25m Zip Wire, Adventure Playground and Toddler Soft Play that have always been there, since the new owners have taken over something new is always happening, be it brand new play-houses and toys for the Toddler Play Room, more swings for the Swing Barn, extra diggers for the giant Sand Play room, a completely renovated Small Animal Room with cool insects as well as reptiles, or 'Cuddles Corner' which gives children the chance to go Egg Collecting as well as meet our smaller animals. Special Events happen all through the year, with phenomenal feedback from visitors after the Easter Egg Hunt, Exotic Animal Encounter and Falconry Events. Halloween is looking to prove just as popular with a Fright Night Farm Walk, Halloween Play Barn Disco and more. In the Cafe the motto is Fresh, Local & Tasty with hot food served till 3pm. Key ingredients like their Lincolnshire Sausages, thick cut bacon and 100% beef burgers are all sourced from the local butchers. You really can spend all day at the farm, whatever the weather. Don't take our word for it, check out recent reviews on Facebook or Trip Advisor where they've recently been awarded a 2016 Certificate of Excellence

than any other cancer… yet just 1% of the national spend on cancer research has been allocated to this devastating disease. Brain Tumour Research is the only national UK charity that invests its funds into long-term research. Children and adults take part in days of hat-filled fundraising events. School children maximise their fundraising by selling exclusive hat-shaped pin badges – with new designs from the charity created each year, they have become collector’s items among the youngsters! How do I get involved? Register at www.wearahatday. org and start planning your
event. Your fundraising pack will include leaflets and posters to help promote your event and will arrive in plenty of time for your Wear A Hat Day. The charity provides exciting Wear A Hat Day merchandise to buy and sell to help with your fundraising – wristbands, plush hats, baseball caps, car hats and designer brooches for parents and teachers joining in with little fundraisers. Event ideas and fundraising top tips can be found on the website. Many school children make hats, have hat competitions, parades, fashion shows etc and the charity publishes the best photos on social media.

The Family Arts Standards badge tells you that whether they’re a theatre, an art gallery, an orchestra or a dance company, the organisation will be welcoming to families, with helpful staff, good facilities, considered pricing, and information to help families decide what is or isn’t suitable for them and their children. Getting creative as a family, and joining one of the festival events is more than just about being entertained. Shared family activities across generations give everyone the opportunity to take some time out of their day to day lives, to craft something, to marvel at something unusual, to be transported into a different world, to see or hear something thoughtprovoking, and to discuss it afterwards. How do I find out what’s on near me? At www.familyartsfestival.com you can find events near you on our interactive map and search by postcode. How much will it cost and how do I book? There are booking details, suggested age-range and ticket prices listed with each event on the Family Arts Festival website. There are lots of free events. Don’t forget to create your own family portrait using the eye-boggling app and join the party online! A snapshot of events in Lincoln to inspire you: Nottingham Lakeside Arts and Lincoln Drill Hall present Alfie White Space Explorer, an unexpected cosmic tale of discovery set in 1967, as well as Macbeth- Blood Will Have Blood, which has been specially adapted for young audiences. Hubbub: A Musical Adventure features original live music by musicians from the celebrated Aurora Orchestra. Sponge is about a child’s ability to soak information up like a sponge and the squishy, squashy texture that fascinates children and adults alike. Dance company Turned On Its Head makes exciting participatory theatre for early years, taking children on a creative journey and encouraging lots of family interaction.

Is your child so ‘shy’ that they do not talk at school?
SM is an anxiety disorder which affects approximately 1 in 150 children. It is essentially a phobia of talking – children with SM want to talk but they can’t. Children often report feeling like their voice is ‘stuck’ or that their throat feels tight and the words cannot come out. These children talk comfortably at home, often described as loud and confident at home but freeze when they go to school. SM is place and person dependent – children can speak in certain places but not others, and similarly they can talk to specific people but not others. SM is highly treatable through appropriate therapy. Interventions focus on reducing the child’s anxiety levels, helping them to relax, while gradually exposing them to talking. Further resources can be found on www.confidentchildren.co.uk.

14TH 18TH NOVEMBER
WHAT CAN YOU DO AS A PARENT?
Each November schools across England take part in Anti-Bullying Week, coordinated by the AntiBullying Alliance. This year it runs from the 14th – 18th November with the theme Power for Good, calling on children, parents and teachers to use their power to stop bullying. As a parent or carer you may wonder when to introduce the subject of bullying – you might even have concerns now that your child is being bullied. There are positive steps you can take to
support your child: Make sure your child knows they can talk to you if they have any worries or concerns. Help them to understand the difference between falling out with friends, being a bit mean and signs that they might be experiencing bullying. Bullying is persistent, there’s an intent to cause harm and there’s an abuse of power. Recognise signs that your child might be being bullied – these could include a change in behaviour (e.g becoming withdrawn or lashing out), a reluctance to go to school or to usual activities, unexplained illness, lost belongings, torn clothes and even physical injuries. Stay calm. Your child might be scared to tell you they’re being bullied in case you get angry and upset. Take time to listen and establish the facts, then ask your child what they want to happen next. Support your child to grow in confidence, to make friends in a variety of settings and to take part in activities that build their self esteem. Talk about how they might respond if someone

calls them names or tries to hurt them. What could they say back? Who could they go to for help depending on the situation? Make sure you’re a good role model. Little eyes are always watching us. How we manage conflict in our relationships and how we treat other people has a big impact on our children.
For more information on Anti-Bullying Week including resources for schools visit www.anti-bullyingalliance. org.uk Lauren Seager-Smith, National Coordinator, Anti-Bullying Alliance
THOUSANDS MORE CHILDREN TO BENEFIT FROM ANTI-BULLYING APP tootoot is an online app that lets children report bullying using screenshots of social media which will be rolled out to hundreds of schools thanks to a £4.4million government fund.
They can screenshot abusive messages or even take photographs of bullies in action then send them via the app. The reports will then be read by staff at the child’s school, but no one else.
The online platform provides 24 hour support to young people who are victims of bullying or online abuse.
The scheme, run by Internet Matters, will also train 4,500 teachers and educate 60,000 parents about how to protect their children from cyberbullying.
Cyber-bullying gives bullies the cover of anonymity but the app counteracts this by allowing children to report bullying incidents anonymously themselves.
An online hub will provide thousands of children, parents and carers with support around the clock, including in school holidays, with advice on tackling bullying and tips on how to block and report abuse.
