BASIC FORM INTO SITE

PULLING DOWN TO HUMAN SCALE

DIVIDING THE MASS

Basic massing is placed on site within the areas that are permitted to be built. Along the site were large and tall building with smaller buildings in the west side (back of building). So I decide to put a large massing to equalize them.

Between Tarumanegara University and site A were small business and retails, in which only CONSIST¬OF ¬ONE¬mOOR ¬(ALF ¬OF ¬THE¬LARGE¬MASS¬THEN¬PULLED¬DOWN¬TO¬SYNCHRONIZE¬WITH¬THESE¬RETAILS¬ and human scales.

The mass was then divided into three spaces because of it’s compraed to human size or the residential behind it.

PEDESTRIAN OVERPASS ACCESS

PULLING DOWN TO HUMAN SCALE

BASIC FORM INTO SITE

The small mass then pulled out to provide an access to pedestrian overpass.

Site A has an opportunity to respond to four sides, in which human scale is also important to the other side. Since the main mass were already too large, the side of the small mass then pulled down to synch with human scales.

Communal area was placed in the T-junction to provide pl Since the north of the site were retails that was crowded a also commercial area, then this communal area was a pla

The spaces in front of the main mass then given function as communal area and open spaces which also a ceiling for the communal area below. This space also allows sun light to penetrate area below to the ground. Also, given that the level wasn’t too different from the ground level, it’s possible to communicate to the communal area without losing privacy.

FINAL MASS Greeneries and pavings then placed onto the site to complete the massing. All of these process were integrated to focus on humans themselves. DIVIDING THE HEIGHT FOR ACCESS

EVOLVING THE MASS

First, the site is pulled up to 2 meters high. This height is decided to make split level between THE¬STREETS¬THAT¬ARE¬lLLED¬WITH¬AUTOMOBILES¬AND¬THE¬HUMAN¬THAT¬WILL¬SOON¬OCCUPY¬THE¬SITE ¬/N¬THE¬ OTHER¬SIDE ¬IT¬ALSO¬BENElTS¬THE¬BASEMENT¬TO¬GET¬NATURAL¬LIGHT¬WITH¬GAPS¬AROUND¬THE¬HEIGHTS

Integrated access is the key. The site is communicated as a site that’s surrounded by streets in its 4 sides. The secondary streets in the north is also a place of community and small retails. These dividings are attempts to respond to those potentials of accessibility; human or automobiles. The big arrow showed access for cars & the smaller ones for pedestrian. These ACCESS¬ARE¬AIMING¬FOR¬EFlCIENCY¬OF ¬ENERGY¬USED¬BY¬PEDESTRIAN¬SO¬THEY¬DON T¬HAVE¬TO¬GO¬A¬LONG¬ way nor across the automobile street to arrive on the site. Ramp-stairs are also put along the small retails area to invite pedestrian to come into the site or just to sit!

The second mass was elaborated to a greater m HEIGHT ¬4HIS¬MASS¬WAS¬AN¬ATTEMPT¬TO¬FULlLL¬THE¬TOT the units to be put. The total area was counted a new mass. The original forms were still maintaine structures and programmings.

STRUCTURES & CORE

FACADE

Placement of programs were then integrated into core and structures to support the building. The core is used as residents’ lift, goods lift, emergency stairs, shafts, and service use.

Each of the units and the programs were then put into more details, with rooms inside of the units, layouts, and how the system work within the building (kitchen & bathroom to the shaft).

EVOLVING THE PODIUM

PROGRAMMING

Second thing to the main mass was the podium. The podium was explored in another type of forms and orientations. The past podiums only faced to the fronts, meanwhile this podium is an attempt to also look into the smaller retail area and the pedestrian bridge, creating access and programs that invites the pedestrian. This geometric form also tried to break the main mass and colaborate into lower height and within human scales.

FINAL MASS

Following up the research in the past lessons, I tried to attach these detachable units into each residents’ units.
