SPRING/SUMMER 2021

Spring and Summer Programming….We’re On It!

Planning for the busy spring and summer season is now and always has been a priority at Hyland Hills Park and Recreation District. Our staff gears up for this special time of year because it’s when people take advantage of Colorado’s beautiful weather to recreate and to heavily utilize parks, trails, and sports facilities in greater numbers because school is out, vacations are being enjoyed and amazing memories are created. Hyland Hills is proud and honored when our facilities become a part of the individual and family memories you treasure. While the Covid-19 pandemic has created more challenges than ever for our programming staff, I assure you that we are planning for as many fun activities as official pandemic restrictions will allow. Thankfully, Adams County has seen a promising decline in the overall numbers of Covid-19 metrics, and Hyland Hills facilities have been able to move to less restrictive levels on the State’s Covid Dial. We are hopeful that this trend and warmer temperatures will provide a green light for us to continue expanding programming on an ongoing basis to better serve our community’s needs. In any case, we will remain agile in the planning process to take advantage of every opportunity presented to create more meaningful recreation experiences that promote healthy living and good mental health. We are very much looking forward to hosting spring baseball and softball for our young athletes who have come to depend on us for this successful program featuring America’s favorite pastime sport, along with other athletics as permitted. Hyland Hills is also planning to introduce some creative pop-up athletic and general activity camps at Clear Creek Valley Park this summer to give parents and kids a break and drop-off option as a boredom buster. We will have more information on those soon. Around the District, the popular Greg Mastriona Golf Courses at Hyland Hills are buzzing with golfing activity as is Adventure Golf & Raceway, where miniature golf is also offering a great alternative for outdoor recreation. The Ice Centre at the Promenade, FIT by Hyland Hills, and the Donald E. VanArsdale Gymnastics Center are all offering as much programming as they are allowed to at this time and we will be ready to get back to full operations as soon as possible. Importantly, we continue to pursue avenues to open Water World at some level for the 2021 season. The full-time staff has remained very busy creating and building the new Alpine Springs expansion area of the park. We are excited to introduce you to this new themed area and its two new attractions in 2021. We will, hopefully, also be able to bring back some of our summer workers for a memorable job work experience and some summer fun too. While Covid-19 has caused serious interruptions to our operations, we remain optimistic at Hyland Hills and will continue to do our part in being a supportive and a positive player in Colorado’s response to it. We commend our District Residents for their overall patience and understanding about facility closures and program changes that have affected them personally. We wish everyone individual and family good health and well-being as we look forward toward a renewed “normalcy” in our beloved Hyland Hills community. — Yvonne Fischbach, Executive Director

Hyland Hills News

Thanks Hyland Hills!

We want to thank the entire Hyland Hills community that we serve for its understanding and patience during the Covid-19 pandemic. We appreciate you because we are aware that program cancellations, facility closures and limitations have affected your life and the good-for-you recreational activities that you are accustomed to. We assure you that the District will continue to do its part and when Hyland Hills is given the official go-ahead to resume full operations, we will be ready. Despite these challenging times, Hyland Hills has remained productive and here are a few examples of what we’ve been doing:

• All District facilities are being maintained and thoroughly cleaned in observance of Covid-19 protocols, with rules and operations also adjusted appropriately.

• Currently, we are building two new and exciting attractions in a newly reimagined area at Water World for 2021.

• Water World earned a Certified Autism Center designation, making it the first Colorado theme park to earn such a certification to serve guests with autism and sensory issues.

• The District continues working with Adams County on free Covid-19 testing in the Water World parking lot.

• Accessibility adjustments have been made to District websites for better navigation.

• Athletic and fitness videos have been produced to help people workout at home and stay active.

• The Water World parking lot served as a Senior Hub food distribution site until food ran out.

Hyland Hills Park and Recreation District will continue to monitor the Covid-19 situation and we look forward to bringing all our programs and facilities to you as soon as we can. In the meantime, please stay safe and optimistic Hyland Hills!

• The Hyland Hills Recreation team ran a water aerobics class for seniors who needed some outdoor exercise during the summer. • The District has kept its standout golf course facility running to max capacity by utilizing and retraining full-time employees who were deployed from other Covid-closed Hyland Hills facilities. • By standing ready, Hyland Hills was able to open its gymnastics, fitness, and Ice Centre facilities quickly, with some participant limitations as official restrictions allowed, getting hundreds of users back to healthy recreating.
