TEAMS HACKETT ARMY POLO TEAM, SLADMORE, AFB, STABLE COTTAGE
The Hackett Army Polo Team put on a strong display on The Queen’s Ground to win, appropriately, the Major General’s Trophy for the first time. This talented military team beat Edward Horswell’s Sladmore squad 4-3½. Lt General Sir Edward Smyth-Osbourne, a former Major General, presented all the prizes including the Images of Polo Best Playing Pony prize to Capt Oliver Powell for his ex-racehorse Monty. Sladmore did not go home empty-handed thought as Alexander Nix was named the Most Valuable Player.
Four teams had entered this two-goal tournament which is open to both Club and military teams and reminds us all of the Club’s military roots. It is traditionally played over the first weekend of September and includes a sub final too. Honours in this game went to Clive Reid’s AFB. They defeated Major Jamie Hayward’s Stable Cottage 6-3. ✸
