El Rosario/Twelve Oaks finished their 2021 season on a high by winning the Chairman’s Cup, beating Konstantin Graf von Schweinitz’s Porto Ronco 5-3. This two-goal contest for Club teams delivered some good-to-watch, fast-paced play on the final day of the season at Guards Polo Club.

Alejandro Penafiel Jnr and Rhett Wooldridge’s team were in control in the first half, leading 4-1 at half-time. Porto Ronco got themselves back in contention in the second half to close the gap to 5-3. However with both teams failing to find the flags in the fourth chukka honours headed to El Rosario/Twelve Oaks. Rhett Wooldridge was named the Most Valuable Player while Oliver Drewitt, who was playing for Porto Ronco, received the Polo Times Best Playing Pony prize for Funky.

The sub final was a tighter, but equally fast-paced game. Victory went to Clive Reid and Mindi Byrne’s AFB/Tex8n Polo. They beat Shoreline 6-5. A hallmark of this tournament is that the match presentations are combined and as rain showers had started during the sub final, the awards ceremony moved to inside the Clubhouse, much to the delight of those who were already dining. ✸
