SHORELINE CLOSE SEASON WITH A FLOURISH

PRESIDENT’S TROPHY

SUNDAY 19TH SEPTEMBER 2021 PRESIDENT’S TROPHY

TEAMS SHORELINE, QUIXOTE, TCHOGAN DOGS, PINK POWER

Tunde Karim’s Shoreline team closed the 2021 season at Guards Polo Club with a victory in the President’s Trophy. The final of this 10-goal tournament was the last game of the season and so there was plenty of pressure on all the players to deliver a stand-out game.

Although Shoreline won this match 5-1, their opponents, Olympia Paus’s Quixote, delivered a much tougher opposition than the final score implied. Quixote was fi elding the sibling duo Nina Vestey and Tamara Fox, and it was great to see three lady players in action in a competitive Club fi nal. Both teams delivered lovely, end-to-end polo, making the spectators sad that this really was the last day of the season. Shoreline’s Adabayo Karim, Tunde’s talented young nephew, was named the Most Valuable Player. Meanwhile his team-mate Santiago de Estrada received the Images of Polo Best Playing Pony prize for Bruja from the Club’s Chairman Brian Stein.

The earlier sub fi nal was a win for Alan Fall and Heiko Voelker’s Tchogan Dogs squad. They beat a change-of-line-up Pink Power team (rec ½ goal on handicap) 7-5½ in a fast-paced game on the Prince’s Ground. ✸
