Student Appreciation Days
Story by Madi McAuliffe, Design by Evan Brown
Student life in the spring is buzzing. The sunshine, spring air, warm nights, and the undeniable feeling of gratitude for the college journey fill our lives. With many events being planned during the month of May, our greatest wish is for Wildcats to feel appreciated.

The lineup of gratitude goes as follows: Sweecy Day, Student Appreciation Day, and Wild Fest! While some specifics are still being built and put together, we encourage you to save these dates and plan to participate in events that will surely become highlights of your time at Central.
Sweecy Day | May 19
Flipping through CWU’s archives, Student Senators and ASCWU are bringing life back to a long lost CWU tradition. Activities include a glamorous campus cleanup, a tree planting ceremony, and special guest speakers followed by entertainment!
Participants in the cleanup will receive a t-shirt and refreshments, so gather ‘round and sign up for the revival of Sweecy Day! Wondering who Sweecy is? Well, it is actually not a single person, rather, the phonetic sound derived from CWCE, Central Washington College of Education, now known and evolved into CWU, Central Washington University.
Student Appreciation Day | May 25
A week after Sweecy Day, we arrive at a well-known and loved tradition which is Student Appreciation Day. The spring air is full of delicious aromas from the food provided by Dining Services, inflatables decorate Barto Lawn, and activity and games fill Chestnut Mall. Campus will be buzzing with energy!
Swing by for some free food, fun and good tunes brought to you by 88.1 The Burg DJs. Get access to this special event by visiting the Campus Activities tent where you can get your wrist bands, sign risk waivers for the inflatables and lather yourself in sunscreen to keep you safe from the spring sun!
Wild Fest Concert | June 1
In efforts to perfectly round up the gratitude event series, KCWU 88.1 The ‘Burg has lined up a free concert! You asked, we heard. Prepare for an awesome evening curated only for CWU students. Stay in touch as we await the official headliner announcement, Wildcats! It is sure to be a great show you will not want to miss.
We hope you jot these events down and make plans to attend. And as always, the best way to stay in the know is by following our Instagram @cwuhype.
