Today’s successful developments in the Built Environment require the combination of careful project management skills with rigorous financial and business control. To be of lasting value and appeal, projects must deliver well-designed, appropriate solutions that are aesthetically pleasing. To be viable, design solutions must deliver financial and business benefit to the entrepreneurs and organisations involved. This Diploma in Entrepreneurship and Project Management in the Built Environment develops the knowledge and skills required by international best practice. Graduates of the Diploma can identify, manage and deliver welldesigned and well-constructed solutions delivering financial and business benefit. The programme addresses the key features of successful projects; financial and legal considerations; establishing and managing your own entrepreneurial design company; business formation, intellectual property, managing others, financial management, growing the company.

21st century professional designers, media and informed general public recognise that the world’s resources are finite and must be protected. Building our homes miles from cities that require people to spend hours each day commuting to work is no longer acceptable. Griffith College’s Design School recognises the requirements and opportunities arising from the sensitive re-development, re-functioning and reimagining of existing structures – for social, business or accommodation purposes. This Diploma in Retrofit, Conservation and Sustainability provides learners with the knowledge and skills to redesign pre-existing structures for altogether different purposes – churches to apartments; warehouses to concert venues, army barracks to third level college. The programme provides applicants with the creative and technical skills to develop innovative solutions that exceed all regulatory requirements for accessibility; health & safety; energy efficiency, etc.

Recent developments in Building Information Modelling software packages have transformed the way in which today’s designers and other construction professionals now create, build and manage new buildings. These resources are applied in the design of all buildings from individual homes and apartments to complex multi-purpose constructions. This Diploma in Building Information Modelling and Graphic Illustration provides learners with the latest skills and techniques in building design. Students get to develop their own individual skills in Revit – the industry leading package. They also gain direct experience of working in collaborative teams in building large scale projects. This collaborative development whereby multidisciplinary teams of designers, builders, quantity surveyors, architects, mechanical and electrical engineers build a shared model of the construction is how professional teams now operate. Gaining this hands-on experience will greatly enhance students’ attractiveness to employers. The Diploma programme is fully compliant with the UK regulations agreed for implementation in 2016 and similar regulations due to be enacted shortly in Ireland.
