Dacia’s seven-seat economics lesson
Approach the All-New Dacia Jogger from the wrong angle and it is not the most visually appealing new car on the market today, it looks a bit awkward at times, especially from the rear quarter angle. The high, but not high enough roof line, the puzzle of “is it an estate or is it an SUV”, well, looks alone do not answer that question, but give the Jogger a chance and it does set the record straight.
Dacia refers to this car as an SUV in some of their literature, and as an estate at other times, he truth is, it doesn’t really matter which body type it is defined as. It is a tall estate-looking car with 200mm of ground clearance and three rows of seats allowing for seven occupants, call it what you like, it is seriously practical.
INTERIOR
And therein lies the reasoning for the high-ish roofline, the three rows of seats. The higher roofline affords the interior the space it requires to accommodate the
three rows, which are structured in a Land Rover-esque stadium style tiered seating, and as a result all seven seats can be used by real adults with leg room for those up to 190cm (6’3”)
according to Dacia. At 6’1” myself I have been a passenger in each row of seats and can confirm that I did fit into all three, although the third row can get a bit uncomfortable on long runs.
Away from the seating, the rest of the interior is quite good also. My test car was the top spec Extreme SE priced at €27,185 and it came with a surprising array of features, an 8” touchscreen display with rear view camera, front and rear park sensors, wireless Apple Car Play and Android Auto, blind spot monitoring and heated front seats.
There are nice cloth materials on the seats, dash and door
panels, although there has also been a generous use of black hard plastic throughout the interior, but this car has been made to a budget and the interior trim materials are far less important, to me anyway, than all the extra kit Dacia have managed to offer at this price point.
DRIVING
The Jogger somehow tips the scales at a little over 1,200kg’s which is surprisingly low for a car of this size, and as a result the Nissan / Renault derived 1.0 litre 3-cylinder turbo petrol unit generating 108BHP pulls quite well around town, with the car feeling engaging and even nippy
By BRIAH FAHEYat times. The steering is light and fairly direct given the height and length of this car, but get the Jogger out onto the open road, or full of passengers and the little 3-cylinder does struggle.
SAFETY
Manufacturing a budget price car can only be achieved with a certain level of sacrifice somewhere in the process. Dacia have done so in a number of ways, they have used a tried and tested platform / chassis for this car, used budget friendly materials where possible, and they have kept some of the more
modern safety equipment, such as lane departure, additional airbags and pedestrian safety devices off this car.
As a result, the Jogger scored only 1 star in the Euro NCAP crash test. It did perform good and adequate in a number of their tests, but the overall score was brought down by the lack of some of those fancier safety gadgets.
VERDICT
The Jogger surprised me, I expected a miserable interior and a poor driving experience, but I got neither of those. The interior is a nice place to be, it has all the real-world useful extras that I would want, and it drove well around town.
My biggest take away from my time with the Jogger though, is how Dacia can make this car, with
all the kit it has and all the seats it has and still be able to sell it for the price they have set for it.
The range starts at an unbelievable €23,290 right up to €27,185 for the top spec Extreme SE model. The next most affordable seven seat car on the
market right now is a staggering €15,000 more expensive than the Jogger.
This is not just a cheap car, it is an economics lesson for every other car manufacturer out there, better value can be achieved, and Dacia have the know-how.
£417k for a bunch of bits
As we all become increasingly concerned about city centre pollution and the need to minimise city traffic UK based company, EAV in Oxfordshire, think they have then answer.
They are manufacturing a range of pedal assisted electric delivery vehicles that are ideal for companies that need to make city centre deliveries,
with minimal cost and drawing attention to their green credentials. The driver/cyclist will get around a full day of work using the electric battery and pushing pedals where required.
At a cost of £11,000 it may not be enough to get white Van Man to change his ways.

NEW TESLA MODELS IN THE WORKS
Stylists in Tesla’s Chinese operations have been tasked with producing a new lower cost model to the line-up. While the electric car specialists are performing well at the top end of the market there is a growing realisation that they are being beaten at their own game as other manufacturers are offering cheaper alternatives.
With the current state of the supply chain it may be a couple of years before we see Musk operating at the economy end of the market.
A1964 Aston Martin DB5 is the sort of car that is always going to attract a lot of attention from vintage car collectors. This desirable piece of machinery is exactly that, in pieces.
Some work has already been started on the restoration and the current owner maintains that
all the really hard work has been done. Apparently all that remains to be done to is to put it all back together, paint it and restore the interior.
Obviously, that hasn’t put off potential buyers who drove the online auction to a staggering sale price of £417,000. On top of that you’ll need to spend on a set of tools to get the job finished.

Secrets from the Showroom
When RTÉ promoted their programme Secrets from the Showroom it seemed the public would get to see the professionalism of those involved in the car business.
What should have been an opportunity to showcase the high standards in an industry that is often maligned, turned out to be something approaching a farce.
Viewers were treated to a combination of ‘wannabes’ and some who thought they were auditioning for a reality comedy show. While there were some displays of professionals at work, those were sadly few and far between.
Hopefully, if this programme revisits the motor business, it will choose to focus on the professionals that are more representative of the serious business the car sales business is.
THE GRENADIER STARTS PRODUCTION
Conceived by an arch Brexiteer, built in France, in a factory previously owned by a German company, and aimed at the UK market, the Grenadier sounds like a post-Brexit joke. However it’s a very real successor to the discontinued old style Land Rover Defender.
The new 4x4 is now being produced at a former Mercedes-Benz plant in Hambach, France, with the first customer deliveries just a few weeks away.
The business is the brainchild of Ineos founder
and Chairman Sir Jim Ratcliffe. It is ironic that he is an arch Brexiteer and is now producing in France.
The off-road machine will be powered by a BMW 3 litre turbo charged unit, with permanent 4 wheel drive.
UK prices are expected to be £49,000 with no details available on whether this model will ever make it across the Irish sea, but it may well attract interest from the horsey set.
ASTON MARTIN MOTORCYCLE FOR £100K
Bikers are amongst the most committed of petrolheads and so no doubt there is a biker somewhere for the latest offering from Aston Martin.
The car manufacturer are producing a limited run of only 100 of these superbikes aimed squarely at the driver who already has a supercar and needs just a slightly bigger thrill.
Big Fat Dummy
It seems that cars are not the only thing that appears to be getting bigger. Just as the cars we were carried in as children now seem small to us as adults, so too are we. The average adult is substantially bigger than adults in the 1950s, when the first crash test dummies were developed to test cars.
Euro NCAP, the Brussels based testing authority, have decided to order new dummies to reflect the changing size of the adult population.
This machine is built around a 999cc four stroke engine producing 222bhp. The crankcase, which is entirely machined from solid billet aluminium - a first for any production motorcycle. It means it has a power to weight ratio similar to that of a Formula One car. While no top speed has been published, insiders expect it will easily hit close to 200mph.
In Euro NCAP tests, cars are driven into a stationary barrier, and the detailed results are analysed to see what changes need to be made to the car design to improve the prospect of the passenger surviving.
The re-useable dummies inside, which are packed with complex instrumentation and cost £100,000 each.
CATHERHAM LAUNCHES NEW SEVEN 340
If the thrill of open air motoring with wind blowing in your hair is what you dream of, then the Caterham 7 should be on your wish list.
This little open top sports car leaves the driver only inches from the ground surrounded in a simple car that does one thing really well: it goes like a rocket.
It is, of course, totally impractical, but then again anyone buying one isn’t going to be worried about driving the mother-in-law to Tesco for the weekly shop.
The Seven 340 features a naturally aspirated, four cylinder, 2.0-litre Duratec engine, producing 170bhp and a 25% uplift in power compared to the outgoing 275 model.
Meanwhile, the 340R is best suited to the track day fanatic fitted with a limited-slip differential, sport suspension pack, 15” Orcus alloy wheels, four-point road harnesses, carbon-fibre dashboard a composite aeroscreen.
Prices in Europe are in the mid-€40s but if you are intent on owning one you’d better talk to the manufacturer.

RUSSIANS ARE BUYING CARS FROM JAPAN
Since Russia invaded Ukraine the domestic car industry has been in turmoil as western manufacturers have withdrawn from the market due to sanctions against the aggressor.
The gap in the market is being filled with used imports, primarily from Japan. Those new cars that have arrived to support the Moscow regime have come almost exclusively from China.
As Ireland also imports many used cars from Japan it would be interesting to know if
the same companies that are selling into this country, are also
supplying the invaders.
Freddie’s Roller sold for £286k
We reported in the last issue that the Rolls Royce once owned by Freddie Mercury was being auctioned for a Ukraine charity. It had
an auction reserve of £30k but was eventually sold for an astonishing £286k. Just goes to show the level of goodwill that exists for the Ukrainian charity.
30 PUNCTURES AT ONCE!
iPhone maker enters car market
When a Californian highway ground to a halt recently authorities were on the scene and quickly found the problem. Freeway 405 on Mulholland Drive had over 30 motorists stuck with punctures.
It is believed that a poorly loaded work truck spilled the content of a box of nails which probably led to the incident. Fortunately, no one was injured in the morning incident. Still, you've got to wonder what would have happened if the vehicles were driving at high speeds. It definitely would have been more than a bad morning.
The name Foxconn may not be all that familiar but if you check your pocket you are probably carrying one of their products; the iPhone. This electronics giant makes the omnipresent phone for Apple but are now using their electronics expertise to develop their own range of electric cars.
Having purchased an existing facility in Ohio it is clear the plans for the business will be aimed at the US market, with no indication of whether the European market will feature in their strategy.
Number plate rudeness
BRAD PITT GOES RACING
It takes a lot to distract racegoers from FI, but that’s exactly what happened when heart-throb Brad Pitt attended the US Grand prix. There was a commotion in the pits as throngs wanted to have their picture taken with the actor. Apparently Brad was there to do research on racing, as part of a movie he’s making in 2023. Maybe he’ll drop into Mondello to complete his planning.
FORD FIESTA TO DISAPPEAR
Almost everybody owned one, rode in it or dated in one. The much-loved Ford Fiesta is being consigned by Ford to the dustbin of motoring history.
Despite the incredible success of the brave little Ford, it no longer fits in the lineup as the maker moves towards an all-electric range over the next few years.
Irish authorities have never been involved in the selling of personalised number plates, which have become very common in the UK and many American states. These personalised number plates have increasingly been used by drivers to shock other motorists with rude and offensive messages.
In the USA the state of Maine has decided to overcome this problem by withdrawing permission to use these plates. Owners are being written to and told they must surrender their cherished numbers.
Currently, there are license plates with salty language including Fbombs, references to anatomy and sex acts, and general insults.
So maybe it’s just as well that we’ve avoided all that in Ireland.
There’s a car buried in my garden
When the new owners of a Californian mansion decided to do some garden work they were shocked to discover a car buried under the lawn.
Police in Atherton California were immediately alerted and with the assistance of cadaver dogs conducted a detailed search but nothing of interest was found.
While it’s not clear who buried the convertible Mercedes, or why, the former owner is being thought of as a likely suspect.
The $15 million mansion was owned by Johnny Bocktune Lew from 1990 to 2014. He had a long history of arrests for murder, attempted murder and fraud. He died in 2015 so the mystery is likely to remain unsolved.
Emma goes from Dacia to a Porsche at 19!
Most young women of her age are simply planning on getting behind the wheel of their first car. That was the sort of life Emma Raducan was living, until she won Wimbledon.
Then the attractive tennis star
became hot property for sponsors. Although she vowed not to be parted from her secondhand Dacia Sandero, the lure of sponsors money proved too much.
Emma is now an official Porsche ambassador that brings with it the
keys of a brand new 911 Carerra GTS convertible with a top speed of 192mph.
Not bad for a 19-year-old. Maybe it’s time to dust off the old tennis racket and start getting in shape for Wimbledon ‘23.
Toyota’s Hydrogen Truck
Sony and Honda team up to make EVs
Sony is one of those brands that has worldwide recognition for quality of its excellence in the field of electronics. Now they are joining forces with Honda to make EVs. When asked recently why this was happening Sony Chairman Yasuhide Mizuno said: “As you all know the mobility industry is going through an enormous change with the digital
technology and software at its epicenter," Mizuno added.
While Sony focuses its energies on developing the in-car software and entertainment systems, Honda will provide the drivetrain and manufacturing expertise.
Deliveries of the first vehicles will be to the US market in 2025.
As car manufacturers seem obsessed with electrification, Toyota continues to look at the benefits of Hydrogen. Their most recent research has been linked to using the clean fuel in large trucks. In spite of the need to store explosive amounts of fuel onboard, Hydrogen is capable of being stored safely and may one day become the fuel of choice to save the planet.

New record at NURBURGRING
The record-breaking drives on October 28, 2022 were hard to beat in terms of excitement: at exactly 17:14:31, racing driver and AMG brand ambassador Maro Engel took to the track for the last attempt of the day and burned the new, fabulous time into the legendary and demanding Eifel asphalt. This was truly not a minute too early, because the track would have been officially closed at 17:15. Although Maro Engel had already set a new best time beforehand, the DTM driver was not yet satisfied. Towards the end of his track slot, the conditions were getting better by the minute. Thus, Maro Engel took advantage of the very last opportunity and improved the lap time to the new official record of 6:35.183 minutes. Based on the track variant known from the sport auto Super Test, the lap time is 6:30.705 minutes.
Volkswagen ID. Buzz takes Irish Car of the Year title for
So we all love vintage Range Rovers, and of course we want to save the planet, so driving an all electric version makes lots of sense.
Except, the price being charged by UK based Lunaz group is an a staggering £245k, before any Irish taxes and VRT. On average, a clean-air electric Range Rover by Lunaz conversion requires 30,000
hours to complete, which may go some way to explain the price, but that hardly makes it a realistic proposition.
According to the company, sales of converted electric vehicles is booming and they have increased their workforce to 250 to cope with demand worldwide.
Rivian recall 13,000 vehicles
USbased electric pick up manufacturer, Rivian, are discovering that manufacturing is quite often the hard part of innovation.
Although they have been lauded for the quality of the vehicle they are making they have been
forced to urgently recall 13,000 machines with a serious steering issue.
It’s not just the quality of the design that makes a manufacturer a success, it’s also the quality and attention to detail in manufacturing.
At an awards ceremony on November 11th at the Westin Hotel in Dublin, the Volkswagen ID. Buzz was named as the 2023 Irish Car of the Year in association with Continental Tyres.
Members of the Motoring Media Association of Ireland (MMAI), the grouping that brings together some 32 of Ireland’s most experienced motoring journalists, hosted the awards event, attended by Ireland’s leading car brands, importers and distributors. The awards are voted on by the members of the MMAI who individually assess each new car model that is launched in Ireland each year.
Volkswagen took the top award with its latest all electric ID. Buzz model and, the van version, the ID. Buzz Cargo, won the Irish Van of the Year title at the same ceremony, a first in the history of the awards.
It is the third time that an electric vehicle has taken the award as Kia EVs also won the 2022 and 2020 Irish Car of the Year titles with the all-electric EV6 and e-Soul respectively.
Chairman of the MMAI, Joe Rayfus: “The Volkswagen ID. Buzz is a really worthy winner of the Irish Car of the Year title, it is a truly stand-out vehicle. As the third electric vehicle to win the title, it really does confirm the onward march in Ireland towards an electric motoring future. Just look at our field of runners for this year’s awards, more than half of the contenders are available as either partial or full electric vehicles”.
Tom Dennigan of awards sponsor, Continental Tyres said: “After the Covid disruption that impacted on the Irish Car of Year awards over the past couple
of years, we are delighted to be back with these awards for 2023.
“The MMAI jurors provide a great service to Irish motorists in providing a really helpful insight into the broad range of increasingly sophisticated car models that are launched here each year.
“No doubt, the Irish Car and Irish Van of the Year titles will be a huge boost to the popularity of the ID. Buzz in the new vehicle market in January and throughout 2023.”
The all electric ID. Buzz uses the same 77kWh battery as the Volkswagen ID.4 and delivers a 420km range from a single charge.

When it comes to Donald Trump you’d expect that everything would be bigger and better than anyone else, and so it has been with his cars.
Although during his presidency he was transported in the Presidential car known as The Beast, he has had several notable cars
over the years. While it’s unclear if he actually enjoys driving, he certainly likes to have cars that draw attention to him.
Over the years he has owned a Rolls Royce, a Lamborghini Diablo, and a Mercedes McLaren SLR. A more curious addition that he has had in the garage was a Tesla Roadster which must have been a
difficult fit for his bulky frame. The Tesla is certainly not designed for a large septuagenarian, but of course he had to have one.
Probably his favourite motor is a Chopper motorcycle which was presented to him by Paul Teutal Snr. of Orange County Choppers. Unsurprisingly its 24 carat gold plated!
American TV star and confirmed petrol head Jay Leno suffered serious burns in a garage fire in his Los Angeles home. Apparently he was working on one of his vintage steam cars when a petrol “blow back” caught him on both arms resulting in significant burns.
Fortunately one of his friends was with him at the time and he was able to extinguish the flames and
get him to hospital. Since then the comedian has had skin grafts and is recovering away from the glare of the cameras.
Leno, 72, has an enviable collection of classics that are often featured in various TV shows and is well-known for his love of cars, and is regularly seen working on them.

NEW KIA SPORTAGE PHEV
By BREDA CORRIGAN www.motoringmatters.iefind a station, charge and pay, all from one account.
The K4 model adds full leather trim, drivers’ memory seat, ventilated as well as heated front seats, a 12.3” driver cluster and a wireless smartphone charger.
TEST CAR
My test car was a new Sportage K3 1.6 PHEV which was finished in Black Pearl metallic paintwork (a €600 cost option) with Black Saturn cloth and faux leather seat upholstery.
There are several driving modes to choose from including EV, Hybrid and Automatic, with the latter mode tasked with deciding how best to blend petrol and electric power sources itself.
IS IMPRESSIVELY TALENTED
Tmarked out by some distinctive and striking design details. The broad front grille and small, angular headlight units, along with boomerang-shaped daytime running lights, provide terrific visual drama when viewed head-on, while the rear tailgate design is reminiscent of the all-electric EV6. The distinctive rear lights emphasise the wide stance of the new Sportage, with the integrated rear spoiler adding a dose of sportiness to the mix.
PETROL & ELECTRIC POWERTRAINThe new Sportage PHEV (Plugin Hybrid) features a powertrain that consists of a 1.6-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine, a 90bhp electric motor and a 13.8kWh battery pack that provides an all-electric combined driving range of up to 70km (up to 78km in city-only driving). This set-up has a total output of 265PS (261bhp) and 350Nm of torque, with a six-speed automatic transmission sending power to all four wheels.
Kia’s award-winning T-GDI engine features Continuous Variable Valve Duration (CVVD), a sophisticated technology that controls the duration of valve lift to dramatically improve performance, fuel economy and emissions.
The state-of-the-art battery pack features a high-tech battery management unit that constantly monitors the state of the battery, including factors such as current, voltage, isolation and fault diagnosis. The pack also has an advanced cell monitoring unit that measures and monitors cell voltage and temperature.
Charging the Sportage PHEV can be done via a domestic socket in five and three-quarter hours (10-100%), but the same charge can be completed in just one and three-quarter hours via a 7.2kW wall box charger or at a public charger.
SPACIOUS CABIN & BOOT
The packaging for the Sportage PHEV has been carefully arranged to minimise impact on passenger and luggage space.
The Lithium-ion polymer battery is placed centrally between the two axles under the body of the SUV, ensuring a balanced weight distribution, and an interior space that is practical, comfortable and versatile.
The cabin in the new Sportage delivers an outstanding experience in comfort, quality, design and cutting-edge technology, thereby creating a driver-centric experience designed around the driver and passe
Sitting at the centre of the sporty cockpit is a beautifully sculpted curved display, integrating a 12.3” driver instrument cluster and a 12.3”
display.
A touch-sensitive panel below the main screen switches between climate and infotainment controls, and this reduces the number of buttons on the dash without relegating everything to the screen.
The spacious cabin in the new Sportage looks upmarket, it feels well built, and it is logically laid out too. Ingeniously, Kia has fitted USB-C sockets in the sides of the front seats and useful hookshaped headrests boost the Sportage’s versatility further.
Boot space measures in at an impressive 540-litres with the rear seatbacks in place, but by
simply pulling two levers set into the side of the cargo area the space on offer increases to 1,715litres.
Safety is a strong point too, with the Sportage gaining a fivestar Euro NCAP crash-test rating earlier this year. The rating applies across all the trim levels and powertrains that make up the Sportage range.
TWO TRIM VARIANTS
The Sportage PHEV is available in two trim variants – K3 and K4 – both of which enjoy the reassurance of all-wheel drive capability as standard.
Key standard equipment fitted to both variants includes 19” alloy wheels, dual-zone climate control,
smart cruise control, highway driving assist, heated front and rear seats, heated steering wheel, and power adjustable front seats, along with Kia Connect (UVO Connectivity) which enables drivers to remotely control certain functions, receive notifications and check the vehicle’s status.
Additionally, drivers will also benefit from MyKia and Kia Charge applications. MyKia is where drivers can access personalised information about their vehicle, view the latest Kia news, enter exclusive Kia prize draws, and can gain access to an online service booking portal.
Kia Charge makes access to Ireland and Europe’s public charging stations easy. You can
The Sportage PHEV also has Eco and Sport modes, along with mud/snow/sand modes for optimal assistance in offroad or slippery conditions. In all-electric mode the Sportage is quiet, while the petrol engine cuts in with the minimum of fuss, with no shunt from the transmission and not much in the way of noise from under the bonnet either.
Fitting a plug-in hybrid drivetrain to the Sportage hasn’t affected its versatility in any way, and it is impossible to tell the difference between the PHEV and the standard car from within the cabin.
The high-performance nature of the Sportage PHEV makes it a fun-to-drive SUV, with a 0-100km sprint possible in just 8.2seconds, while fuel consumption as low as 1.1l/100km is possible if every journey is commenced with a fully charged battery. Steering response and cornering stability are improved with a new Kia ‘e-handling’ system that adds a form of torque vectoring to the PHEV.
PRICING & WARRANTY
The new Sportage is the fifthgeneration of Kia’s global bestseller, and although the last model did very well for the brand, it seems that Kia have excelled themselves with this all-new model.
This latest PHEV offers buyers of mid-size SUVs the opportunity of entering the world of petrol and electric power for the first time.
The new Sportage K3 PHEV is priced at €46,000 (ex-delivery) with the K4 PHEV priced at €48,000 (ex-delivery).
All Kia passenger cars come with a 7-year/150,000km warranty as standard.

Renault
4EVER TROPHY – An Icon Reborn
It seems consumers around the world can’t live without big brands. Bentley Motors are jumping on the brand bandwagon with the launch of its own range of runners.
Bentley Motors has announced its collaboration with leading force of the customised shoe industry Dominic Ciambrone, known as The Surgeon, to create a limited-edition line of Bentley-inspired sneakers, reserved by Mulliner clients and collectors. Maybe it’s the sort of thing some people will buy to convince the crowd in a nightclub that they really own a Bentley!
A MAGAZINE FOR BMW NUTS
The first issue of Werke, a luxury quarterly magazine dedicated to BMW culture, has gone on sale.
If you are a committed BMW fan and simply have to know all the latest about your Bavarian brand this is for you, but with a steep price of £10 it may be something you’ll manage without.
Werke is a publication that reflects BMW’s standing as a premium manufacturer. Not only is it finished to an extremely high standard, but the
content inside has also been created by exceptional photographers and talented writers.
Issue 1’s list of contributors includes: Henry Catchpole, Stephen Dobie, Charlotte Vowden and photographers Dean Smith, Jordan Butters and Olgun Kordal.
It celebrates more than just BMW’s cars, it also focuses on the passions from within BMW, the people and companies that are associated with it and the culture surrounding the marque.
The Renault 4 is much more than a car: It is a true icon. With over 8 million units sold in more than 100 countries, it has been crossing generational and social gaps for the past 60 years. It is as comfortable in cities as it is far out in the countryside, and it is a multipurpose car too –you can drive it to work and on long journeys, use it to carry loads, and lots more.
Production was discontinued 30 years ago but the 4L has never left the limelight. It is one of the original young-timer vintage cars and the past 25 years have seen the 4L Trophy prove time and again its worth as a versatile car built to last. This explains why it is still a crowd pleaser, especially with the younger generations.
A MODERN TWIST AND A LOT OF DARING
The Renault 4EVER Trophy show car creates new memories while bringing back old ones. Under a muscular exterior, the stylistic ties to its 4L predecessor are evident. The retro style blends harmoniously with the rest of the otherwise sophisticated and technological lines. The show car has generous curves and a very elaborate grille. The ‘ultra tech’ connections between the spokes and bodywork bring an added layer of precision and modernity. The same can be said for the meticulously honed rim around the roof.
A UNIQUE LIGHT SIGNATURE
The Renault 4EVER Trophy puts a new twist on the Renault 4’s iconic wide horizontal grille featuring the round, built-in lamps, now with Matrix LED lights. The innovative lights give the vehicle a strong identity. While the recognisable pill-shaped rear lights have also been entirely redesigned, they remain readily recognisable and are a clear nod to the iconic 4L.
A LIGHTWEIGHT OFF-ROADER EAGER TO EXPLORE
An electric vehicle that ventures off the beaten
track: that is what the rugged 4EVER Trophy show car conveys at first glance. The electric motor reflects the future production model.
The low section on 4EVER Trophy, painted Gun Metal Silver, has been designed for the great outdoors. An open invitation to explore new horizons, this show car exudes a clearly adventurous spirit.
It has a certain flair to its look with the silver coat, and magenta highlights on the roof straps, suspension springs and wheel emblems. The dune-buggy vibe gives 4EVER Trophy a competitive look. The hollowed-out bonnet has a huge air exhaust that vastly improves the efficacy of the radiator located in the centre of the shield.
The front overhang has been shortened considerably for a greater clearance capacity. With a spare tyre located on the carbon fibre roof, and a shovel and waffle boards on the upper section of the rear door, the car is ready to tackle any situation.
The vast body protection panels on the lower section are made with a considerable 20 cm clearance around the wheel arches. The highseated body highlights the width of the 753 mm wheels mounted on 19 inch rims. The underbelly has been reinforced to provide greater protection for the battery located in the middle of the chassis.
Like its predecessor, the future vehicle built off 4EVER Trophy’s design will be made in France. Thanks to their shared traits, all vehicles using the CMF-BEV platform will be built in the ElectriCity hub in northern France.
Anyone born in the 70’s or 80s was probably driven in a Renault 4. At the time the brand was very successful and the 4 was a practical little family car that was very popular in Ireland.
As a clear indication that nostalgia pays dividends in the vintage car market, this 1971 car was recently sold at auction in the UK for £5,500. Even though the condition was only fair it achieved an high price as middle aged buyers seek to grab a piece of their childhood.

New KIA NIRO EV
By DECLAN GLYNN www.motoringmatters.ieCAR ON REVIEW
My review car was a new Niro EV K4 which attracted much admiration in its Mineral Blue metallic paintwork. The Niro EV has the same 201bhp electric motor as its e-Niro predecessor, but the power delivery in the new model is smoother and calmer.
With 255Nm of instant torque available from a standing start, the Niro EV can complete a 0-100km/h sprint in 7.8-seconds, and it can reach a top speed of 167km/h.
SUPREMELY ELEGANT LUXURY EV
Redesigned from the ground up, and merging innovation with high-tech user convenience features, the all-new Kia Niro sets a new benchmark for the competitive CUV (Crossover Utility Vehicle) segment. Sporting a bold and assertive exterior design, a spacious yet minimalist cabin, and futuristic advanced technology, the new Niro is tasked with building on the success of its predecessor. The new Niro is available with three powertrains: a full hybrid, a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) and the fully-electric Niro EV tested here.
STRIKING EXTERIOR DESIGN
The Niro’s unique double cowl bonnet serves to emphasise Kia’s signature ‘tiger face’ front and Heartbeat Daytime Running Lights to great effect. The matt and gloss two-tone front grille has a hexagonal pattern, and is complimented by a powerful lower cladding design for an extra-wide look, with an integrated central charging point for the Niro EV.
The striking rear design of the new Niro incorporates
Boomerang-style taillights, a Heartbeat reflector, a rugged skid plate, and a distinctive lower bumper design.
Kia has introduced a Steel Gray contrast panel that runs from the roofline to the rear wheel arch, and this can be specified as an option with Snow White Pearl metallic paint.
WELCOMING, ECO-FRIENDLY CABIN
Spacious in size, minimalist in detail, and welcoming in every
way, Kia’s interior designers have combined the latest in high-tech design and technology with ecofriendly/recycled materials inspired by nature.
Along with smarter seating to maximise comfort and minimise fatigue, designers focused their utmost attention on a relaxing experience for all occupants.
Intuitive user-friendly features and dashboard functions are designed for easy interaction to make the all-new Niro an immersive source of inspiration.
A sculpted 10.25-inch panoramic high-definition digital display screen puts everything in the driver’s line of vision, integrating both the driver information cluster and infotainment features in one streamlined suite. Below it, the multimode control display lets you easily manage the multimedia and climate settings.
The Niro EV enables owners to store items under the front bonnet, under the rear cargo floor and under the cargo screen too. In terms of practicality, the Niro EV offers an impressive 475-litres of space in the boot, but this can be expanded by dropping the split-folding rear seatbacks when required.
Kia’s advanced suite of DriveWise Intelligent Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) ensures that the new Niro delivers Kia’s most technologically advanced protective systems to give the ultimate peace of mind for occupants of the familyfriendly crossover.
RANGE UP TO 460KM
There are two trim variants in the new Niro EV: K3 and K4, with a comprehensive list of standard equipment common to both variants. Upgrading to K4 trim will add grey two-tone leather upholstery, front passenger Premium Relaxation Seats, powered driver and passenger seats with electric lumbar support, heated rear seats, ventilated front seats, and a Smart Power Tailgate with adjustable height functionality.
The Niro EV is powered by latest-generation electric motor and a 64.8kWh lithium-ion battery for a potential range of up to
460km on a full charge. With a suitable DC fast-charger, the Niro EV can go from 10-80% charge in just 43 minutes, and the car comes with a standard CCS charging port for added convenience.
The Niro EV makes charging at public charging stations simple by using Kia Charge – an RFID card which gives drivers quick and easy access to the growing DCS network of over 390,000 charging stations across 29 countries in Europe, and a wide range of helpful services too.
Vehicle-to-Device functionality transforms the Niro EV into a portable energy source wherever you are. When fully charged, the Vehicle-to-Device feature offers up to 3kW of power, and this can then be used to plug in a vacuum when cleaning the car, charge an e-bike, power a laptop, or even bring a coffee machine to a picnic.
There are three drive modes (Eco, Normal and Sport) and the regenerative braking is accessed via paddles behind the steering wheel. When set to its strongest position, the regenerative braking function allows for one-pedal drivability. Supple suspension settings in the new Niro provide the car with the ability to smooth out road imperfections with ease, while precise steering provides good levels of feedback to the driver so that the car can be placed on the road in a fuss-free fashion. The car remains well controlled and composed through corners, and its safe and secure handling characteristics are admirable.
Although the e-Niro couldn’t accommodate a towbar, the new Niro EV can, and although it comes with a relatively modest 750kg limit, it is still an appealing option none the less.
VERDICT & PRICING
The all-new Kia Niro EV is a brilliant all-rounder in every respect, and is better than its bigselling predecessor in all of the important areas. It is a truly practical, functional, admirable and desirable fully-electric fiveseat family car that benefits from the reassurance of Kia’s amazing 7-year/150,000km warranty.
The Niro EV K3 and K4 are priced at €41,775 and €44,990 respectively – inclusive of an SEAI grant of €5,000 and VRT relief for

Our expert BRIAN FAHEY is here to answer all of your car-related questions, from technical issues to advice on buying your next car. No question is too big or too small for our experts.
With over 40 years of combined experience in the Irish Motor Trade, we want to share our expertise with you, our readers, to improve your motoring knowledge and to give you the confidence in making your next motoring decision, be that, changing a bulb yourself, figuring out what that noise is, or why that warning light is on, to having all the right questions and answers when dealing with garages, mechanics and salespeople.
The Stop/Start feature on my 2019 Ford Focus does not work very often, and I have noticed that it never works on warm days. I have brought the car to a main dealer and to my local mechanic for this issue, both have said that there is no fault with the car and that it could be down to my driving style. Are they just fobbing me off, and is there something that can be done to fix this issue.
Barry
Hi Barry, Stop/Start systems can be very sensitive to a number of factors, some of which can be down to how the car is being driven, and some can be due to an issue with the car.
Battery voltage and battery monitoring systems play a big role in if, and when a car will trigger the stop/start system. If battery voltage is not at, or near its optimum level (usually around 90% fully charged), then the car will make the decision not to activate the system, so it may be worth having the battery checked if it has not been already.
Having a number of electrical features turned on at the same time (radio, heater, lights, heated rear window) will also affect if the system activates or not, and it is interesting that you say that it never works on warm days, this could be down to something as simple as having your air conditioning turned on, as that alone can cause the system not to activate.
Hope this helps.
usually a lot cheaper than replacing the clutch assembly itself
I am looking to change my car and I have narrowed my search down to 2 possible cars, the Volvo XC60 and the Land Rover Discovery Sport, both circa 2020 registrations.
Both of these cars come with keyless entry and start systems and I am concerned about the possibility of theft as I have heard a lot recently about cars being stolen without the keys by thieves who are using devices to copy or boost the signal from the keys while they are away from the car or even in the owner’s house.
Am I right to be concerned or is this just the media hyping up these issues? Gerry
Gerry
Unfortunately, the occurrence of these types of thefts are on the increase in Ireland, but the equipment required to steal a car in this manner is quite sophisticated, so, thankfully it is not that common and only accounts for a small percentage of overall vehicle thefts.
every month or two – that’s about 200km from our home. Other than that, the car is only used for short local trips to the shops or dropping the kids here and there.
Can you give me some advice on what you think would be a good option for me. Paul
PaulChoosing what type of car to purchase has never been so difficult with all the options we have these days, but hopefully we can give you some useful information to help you decide on what’s right for you. With such a short daily usage of your car an electrified car of some sort would definitely be of benefit to you and should save you money on fuel, providing you have access to a charging point, or the ability to have one installed at your home.
Given that you visit family 200km away and have to come the 200km back home, might put too much pressure on whether a fully electric car would be the correct way to go for you.
Would you have access to a charging point at your destination, or would you be willing to break-up your journey to allow for charging stops along the way.
BrianThankfully, there are ways to help protect yourself from becoming a victim of these types of crimes. The keys for these keyless entry systems are constantly putting out a signal, as they are constantly searching for the car. This is the detail that thieves look to take advantage of, so by reducing or blocking this signal, you can greatly reduce your chance of this happening to your new car.
Storing your keys in a small metal box will block a lot of the signal that the keys emit, this creates a “Faradays Cage” effect and is a very effective and cheap solution. Another piece of advice would be to remove the batteries from your spare key if it is not used regularly. Keeping the keys as far away from the car as is practical is also a good idea.
BrianMy 2001 Mitsubishi Lancer has failed the NCT for rust on the sills. I have spoken to a few mechanics who have all told me that it is not worth fixing, but I don’t want to scrap my car as it has served me well over the 10 years that I have owned it, and it has never needed any major work before now. Am I mad to be considering repairing it, or should I just let it go and buy a newer car.
JulieThe clutch pedal on my 2014 Honda Civic sticks down at the floor sometimes, I am able to pull it back up with my toe when it happens, and it works okay for a few days until it happens again. My local mechanic has quoted me €950 to replace the clutch which I can’t afford at the moment. Is he right, is this my only option?
Liam
A clutch pedal sticking down to the floor is usually a result of an issue with the hydraulic system on the clutch rather than an issue with the clutch itself. It might be worth having a fluid change/bleed carried out on the clutches hydraulic system, especially if it has not been changed for a while. Old, contaminated fluid could be causing increased friction in the system.
This fluid change is an easy and cheap first step to try. If that does not cure your issue, then you may be looking at a problem with the clutch master cylinder. Replacing the master cylinder is also
Firstly, you are not “mad” to be considering repairing the car, repairing old cars is practicing sustainability, and the more use we get out of any product, is good for the environment.
Rust can often be a killer of older cars as it can be expensive and awkward to repair, so it all depends on how far the rust has gotten into your car.
This is probably not a repair for a mechanic though, so I would recommend that you take your car to a bodyshop who would be better positioned to carry out this type of work.
If the answer to either of those questions is no, then I would be recommending a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) for your circumstances. There are many PHEV cars currently on sale and most offer 30 –60km of electric only driving ranges, which would allow you to carry out most of your driving needs using electric only and saving you plenty on your fuel costs.
The real benefit of a PHEV is that you have a fully functioning internal combustion engine to fall back on should the batteries run out of charge, this takes away any range anxiety you may have regarding electric vehicles and long journeys. Brian
Hello, I am considering purchasing a second car just for fun at the weekends. I am looking at a Mazda MX-5 or a Toyota MR-S circa 2000 – 2002.
I know I can’t get vintage tax until they would be 30 years old, but what about cheap / classic car insurance? I have called a few insurance companies but none are offering classic insurance policies for a second car, the best offer I got was to take out a full new policy but I would have no ‘no-claims bonus’ on it and it is working out very expensive.
Regards JimmyHi Jimmy, Firstly, they are both fun cars to drive, so hopefully you get insurance to suit. There are very few options when it comes to classic car insurance in Ireland. The general rule here is that it is only available on cars over 30 years old, but this is at the discretion of the insurance companies who can just refuse to offer a classic policy regardless of age.
Brian
Local and backstreet bodyshops can be quite good value and are sometimes the last saving grace of our older cars when the rust mites get their teeth into them.
I am looking to trade in my 2015 Volkswagen Tiguan 2.0TDI and am looking at buying a brand new car of similar size, but cannot decide on whether to go for diesel, electric or hybrid.
My daily commute to work is a 30km round trip, and we travel to the west to visit family
There are, however, a number of insurers in Northern Ireland who do offer classic policies to customers in the Republic, and they can be quite reasonable and helpful when compared to our insurers down South. Abbey Autoline is one I have experience with and found them most helpful and accommodating.

Best of luck with your search. Brian
Maserati in the PINK
Maybe you are a Barbie girl, or perhaps there is a young lady you know who is inspired to be a real living incarnation of the famous long legged blonde? In that case the latest offering from Maserati could be just the thing to make life complete.
The supercar manufacturer are producing a full-sized limited edition Barbie pink car in conjunction with the doll manufacturer Mattel. While no prices are currently available it can be assumed it will be a really eye watering amount that only a highly successful blonde or a generous ‘Ken’ could afford.
UK Scrappage Scheme
Under Labour?
The prospect of a car scrappage scheme in the UK moved a little closer recently when Labour Party shadow transport secretary was pressed on policies a Labour party government would introduce.
During the recent Conservative Crisis, following the departure Liz Truss, the Labour Party’s Louise Haigh said: “Absolutely something we’re looking really carefully at...keep your eyes
peeled.
While no suggestions of a Scrappage Scheme are circulating here, it must be remembered that we are aiming to have a million EVs on Irish roads by 2030.
Perhaps a Scrappage Scheme might be just the thing that our politicians will introduce as a vote-getter at the next election.
Reverse record breaker
No matter what you may think is utterly pointless there is always someone out there determined to do it, just because they can.
Tennessee native Scott Burner has made it his passion in life to drive fast cars, in reverse! You may
well ask Why? He seems happy with his hobby and has a been rewarded with an entry in the Guinness Book of Records as the fastest reverse driver. His record is for 48 mph average over a mile, although he has achieved as high as 54 mph. These speeds were achieved in a Corvette Stingray manual.
Concept Car Gone Wrong
The motor industry needs concept cars to let designers imagine what the future of motoring might be like. Seen here is one of those concept cars that definitely got it all wrong. Based on the new Nissan Ariya electric machine the designers have mated it with an all-American “Woodie” Concept style. It comes complete with a surfboard and is meant to imagine how all the beautiful people will be taking to the beach in future. Don’t think we will be seeing this one in the car park in Brittas Bay.
Electrify your Mini, at a price!
One of the dilemmas that classic car enthusiasts face, is keeping their beloved old cars on the road while being environmentally friendly.
A UK company, rechargedheritage.co.uk think they have the answer. They will convert your cherished Mini to electric power or even source an existing Mini for you and electrify that.
The problem is the price. To convert your existing car will cost an eye watering £42,500 and £62,500 if they source a car for you.
As classic cars spend so little time on the road it is hard to see how that price can be justified, even if we do want to save the planet.
SSanguong Torres SUV
Ssangyong has been experiencing corporate financial problems, which now appear to be resolved.
The future growth of Ssangyong will be based on the company’s move towards electrification, again supported through additional capital funding from the KG Group.
The brand is also focusing on achieving growth through the successful international launch of its new Torres SUV model.
The unveiling of the Torres in the domestic market was extremely well received, and is already leading the increase in sales while strengthening the brand’s position in the global market.
Continuous investment and technology development for electric vehicles (EVs) is progressing, with the U100, the first of these scheduled for release next year.
1,000 Horse Power Hummer in UK
The first GMC Hummer EV Pickup has arrived in the UK. The fully-electric truck pairs more than 350 miles of zeroemission range with blistering supertruck performance.
With 1,000hp and 1,200lb-ft torque the electric Hummer can hit 60mph in just 3.3 seconds, making it supercar fast while boasting expansive seating for five, plus bags of cargo space.
While its monstrous speed on road is impressive, its off-road capabilities are out of this world.
An optional ‘Extract’ mode allows the entire truck to raise around 15cm, while the air suspension also works to optimise aerodynamics by lowering the car at motorway speeds.
The expected UK price will be £320K, so it seems only Premier League footballers will be getting behind the wheel of this tank anytime soon.
HYGROGEN ELECTRIC
0-62 in 2.2 seconds
The Hyperion XP1 was first revealed in 2020, but a prototype has appeared in Los Angeles Motor Show for the model's world debut. The hydrogen-electric supercar is claimed to
produce more than 2000bhp from four electric motors, with around 1000 miles of range on a single charge. Top speed is said to stand at 221mph and 0-62mph takes a claimed 2.2sec.
VAUXHALL VIVARO VAN BEST SELLER IN UK
The van business certainly seems to lack the glamour of the car sales business but is still an important part of the motoring mix for manufacturers.
The number one selling van in the UK this year has been the Vauxhall Vivaro electric. The brand intends to offer an electric option in each product category by 2024 and only offer electric vehicles by 2028.
ANOTHER PREMIUM EV ON
THE
WAY
At a time when all the major manufacturers are rushing to deliver electric cars to willing buyers another start-up is on the way.
Italian based manufacturer Aehra, no we never heard of them either, are planning to deliver a premium electric EV in 2025.
With an expected price point of 150K this is a model designed for those who would normally be indulging themselves with other prestige brands, but are looking for something different.
The car has been designed by former Lamborghini stylist and promises all the luxury extras. The makers are promising a range of 800km and blistering performance.
BOY RACERS BEWARE
Owners of cars with loud exhausts in the UK are now potentially under threat of being fined for noise breaches, as the UK’s Department of Transport rolls out its new noisedetecting camera system.
The cameras will initially be rolled out in four locations across the country as a trial over the next two months, with more locations to be added if it is deemed successful.
The cameras will be set to a noise limit of 74dB, and will employ a combination of a still photo and the maximum noise level recorded by an offending vehicle to create a package of evidence against the accused. Bradford will play host to the first set-up, with Bristol, Great Yarmouth and Birmingham taking the other three cameras over the course of the trial. Might be something we should consider in Ireland.
4 Millionth Hyundai from Czech Republic
While the success Hyundai have enjoyed in Europe started in Korea many motorists are unaware of the contribution the Czech Republic has played in that growth.
From its plant in Nošovice, Hyundai has marked a milestone 4 millionth car rolling off the production line. The landmark car was a Hyundai TUCSON N Line, outfitted with dynamic equipment and in a mild-hybrid version, produced for customer from Olomouc in the Czech Republic.
Despite the pandemic, global supply chain issues and other external influences, HMMC has managed to maintain a high production rate. This year, it expects to produce over 321,000 vehicles, surpassing the ‘pre-pandemic’ year of 2019.
More units of TUCSON have been produced at Nošovice than any other Hyundai model, accounting for over 70 per cent of production since opening of plant in 2008.
NEW FORD E-TRANSIT
An icon, electrified
By DECLAN GLYNN www.motoringmatters.ieFord’s iconic Transit van now comes with allelectric power for the very first time, and it is destined to become a game-changer for the electric van market. The Ford E-Transit is based on one of the best large vans on the market (a consistent bestseller for the brand since 1965) and a variety of panel van sizes and conversion options mean there should be a model suitable for the needs of most business operators. Depending on the model chosen, buyers can benefit from between 9.5 and 15.1 cubic metres of usable and easily accessible loadspace.
CHOICE OF POWER
When developing the E-Transit, Ford’s engineering team used the diesel model as a starting point, and replaced the engine, gearbox and transmission with electrified running gear.
The electric motor can be had with 184PS or 269PS, and it is connected to an intelligentlydesigned 68kWh battery which sits underneath the main body of the vehicle in order to maximise cargo capacity.
The space under the bonnet is taken up by the electronics that control the drivetrain, as well as other on-board systems.
Externally, the E-Transit is marked out from its diesel-engine siblings by way of a unique front grille with 3 chrome blue horizontal trim accents, and a chrome blue element underlying the E-Transit nameplate on the rear door. The CCS charging socket is located within the front grille for ease of access.
TRIM & CHARGING OPTIONS
The E-Transit is available in Leader and Trend trim levels, and standard equipment common to
both includes remote central locking, SYNC 4 infotainment system with wireless smartphone connectivity, keyless start, electric parking brake, rotary gearshift dial, automatic temperature control, Quickclear heated windscreen, heated front seats, electric windows, dual passenger’s seat with lift-up seat stowage and fold-out table, along with a tyre inflator kit.
The E-Transit has a claimed maximum range of up to 317km on a combined driving cycle from a fully charged battery, while a 115kW power system allows a 1580% charge to be completed in as little as 34 minutes via a DC fast charger. A full charge (0100%) can be achieved in 8 hours from a 11kW wallbox charger, and it is also possible to charge the vehicle via a domestic socket if the need arises.
TEST VAN DETAILS
My test vehicle was an E-Transit Trend 350L (Long Wheelbase, Medium Roof) 184PS, which has a payload capacity of 980kg (excluding driver).
The van looked very smart in
its Grey Matter non-metallic premium paint, and it drew lots of admiration from fellow motorists during my time with it.
Exclusive features in Trend specification include cruise control with speed limiter, LaneKeeping Assist, Pre-Collision Assist with Intelligent Emergency Brake Assist, driver’s seat lumbar adjust, lockable glovebox, easyto-clean load floor, front & rear parking sensors, front fog lights, full wheel covers, and rear mud flaps. An optional Driver Assistance Pack was fitted to my test vehicle, and it comes with a host of advanced features to make the overall driving experience even more enjoyable.
Drivers can tailor how their E-Transit drives with 3 selectable drive modes. Each one adjusts various settings to optimise performance for the conditions.
Normal is for everyday driving, Slippery improves handling in wet or icy conditions, and Eco helps you to get the most from the battery.
To maximise range, drivers can activate the L-Mode in the centre of the rotary gear-selector dial to
increase the rate at which the battery recharges when the brakes are applied.
The rear-mounted electric motor unleashes plenty of punch to make the E-Transit feel quick from the get-go, and it doesn’t have a problem overtaking either.
A tall driving position and a substantial amount of glass in the cabin ensures that forward visibility is never a problem, and overall cabin comfort is impressive.
The whisper quiet electric engine provides a great sense of
calm when on the move, and it totally eliminates noise pollution and Co2 pollution in the process.
All E-Transits feature a standard FordPass Connect modem, enabling always-on connectivity with the Ford Pro ecosystem, and Ford Power-Up software updates to deliver additional features and benefits. Customers also benefit from a lifetime subscription to FordPass Pro or Ford Pro Telematics Essentials, and access to the Blue Oval Charging Network for a year.
VERDICT & PRICING
The new Ford E-Transit offers significant fuel cost savings over equivalent diesel-powered models, along with lower servicing and maintenance costs too. The E-Transit provides drivers with a refined, relaxing and thoroughly enjoyable driving experience, along with the choice of cargo capacity to suit the vast majority of business operators in Ireland.
Pricing starts at €63,742 and €67,659 for the E-Transit Leader and Trend variants respectively.
New TESLA MODEL Y
– leaving range anxiety in the distance!
Tesla’s newest offering, the Model Y, sits just above the smaller Model 3 hatchback in their all-electric line-up, and below the Model X. It is essentially a Model 3 with a bigger SUV style body, giving better access to the boot, a higher driving position and more room all round inside the cabin. It is also due to have a seven-seat option in the near future, which will increase its desirability even further.
The exterior of the Model Y is in keeping with the clean aesthetic of Tesla’s other Models, with clean lines and nice design touches such as the flush fitting door handles, aerodynamic looking front end, and pillarless door frames.
INTERIOR
Inside the Model Y you are greeted with a minimalist interior, with a 15” touchscreen dominating the dashboard, the only other controls are found in the form of two multifunction buttons on the steering wheel and two stalks behind it for the indicators and gear shifting.
Everything else is controlled from the touchscreen, which is convenient once you familiarise yourself with the basic layout, but having to revert back to the centre of the dash for so many controls can be a bit distracting
when on the move though.
The materials used inside have a genuine premium feel to them too, with the vegan leather seats, wood veneer panels and plastics used all having an air of quality to them, making the Model Y cabin a pleasurable place to be.
PERFORMANCE
Tesla have garnered a reputation for producing cars with lengthy and reliable driving ranges, combined with blistering performance, both of which have been carried over into the Model Y.
The entry level rear-wheel drive version is good for 455km’s and a 0-100km/h time of 6.9 seconds, while the dual motor 4-wheel drive long range model has a maximum range of 565km
and a 0-100km/h time of 5.0 seconds.
The range topping performance version sacrifices about 50km’s of that range, giving it a total of 514km’s, in exchange
for a 0-100km/h time of 3.7 seconds, which will easily dispatch many supercars out there today.
The mid-range acceleration of the long range model I tested was phenomenal and something that I have never experienced in a petrol or diesel powered car, it actually turns your stomach and the closest experience I can liken it to is the freefall acceleration of a rollercoaster. I am going to miss the instant surge of power when I hand back my test car and get back into boring fossil fuel powered cars.
DRIVING
The Model Y is well planted and feels secure on the road, with decent roadholding and very little body roll, even when being pushed a little. The ride is firm, but not overly so, which is impressive on such a heavy car
with a relatively small footprint.
The steering is direct with the car changing direction willingly, until you request too much of it that is, give it a few quick leftright switches and it does become a bit overwhelmed, with the lack of feedback through the steering wheel sapping some driver confidence.
The regenerative braking system does take some getting used to. I didn’t like it at first, as when you lift off the throttle pedal, the car brakes quite firmly, but after some time with the car, I soon adjusted my driving style and the regenerative braking is easily controlled by just easing off the throttle pedal rather than just lifting off completely, as would be the norm in an ICE car.
VERDICT
There are many things to like about the Model Y. It is well put together, drives well, looks good, it’s modern and different, and that acceleration is addictive, the cheap running costs are appealing too. With prices starting at €52,990 for the RWD model, €57,990 for the long range, and €67,990 for the performance version, it is well priced when compared to its rivals in this premium small electric SUV sector.
Being electric it is not for everyone just yet, but if you are curious about switching to an electric car, the Model Y is definitely worth a try, and with such long ranges from a full charge of the battery, range anxiety is not an everyday thought you will have to worry about.
THE Z CAR USA
Most people would agree that the original Nissan 240Z was a trailblazer for sports cars from Japan. But much has changed over the last 50-years, a small sporty coupe is certainly not as popular as they once were, and the Z went from leading that pack to barely remembered.
In a bid to recapture the success of the 240Z a new Z car has arrived in the American market. There can be no denying the family lineage as the latest Z car looks every inch a worthy successor to the original.
The American spec includes a twin turbo V6 with 60mph achieved in 4.5 seconds, although it’s unlikely we will see that model her in Ireland.
Is the Hydrogen car finished?
EasyGo announces multi-million Euro investment
EasyGo, the largest private car charging network in Ireland, has announced a multi-million Euro investment in new fast DC EV chargers in towns and villages around Ireland.
The investment is part of a partnership with Eir, Ireland’s leading telecommunications company, where telephone kiosks are being removed and replaced with state-of-the-art Tritium electric vehicle chargers.
As part of this investment programme, EasyGo has committed to deploying 200 fast DC chargers around Ireland.
The rush to electrify everything that currently has an internal combustion engine has meant that manufacturers have been turning their backs on hydrogen fuel.
At one stage hydrogen was seen as the
RIVIAN STILL PRODUCING SMALL NUMBERS
The ambitious maker of electric pickups in the USA has still to hit the sort of numbers that would make it a threat to the big players. They hope to produce 25,000 units this year but have a backlog of 114,00 orders so they have a long way to go before they will make their presence felt in the competitive American market.
Rivian revealed that it generated $536 million in revenue in the third quarter, but also a negative gross profit of $917 million. Its net loss in the third quarter amounted to $1.724 billion
next big thing, offering pollution free fuel that was simple to produce and without any nasty stuff coming out of the tailpipe.
Shell UK have recently announced the closure of their hydrogen filling stations due to lack of demand. It seems there are fewer
than 500 registered users and that simply isn’t enough to warrant the investment in the stations. Perhaps in another 20 years we will all look back and realise that hydrogen was the route we should have taken to save the planet?
EasyGo has contracts to add Tritium chargers at 70 locations in counties Offaly, Mayo, Cavan, Waterford, Kilkenny, Tipperary and Monaghan, which will be rolled out over the next six months.
EasyGo is actively engaged with other local authorities to identify 130 additional locations across Ireland for new fast DC Tritium chargers, and this programme will be delivered at zero cost to county councils.
Commenting on this project, Chris Kelly, founder and technical director of EasyGo said: “We are delighted to work with so many local authorities on this programme as well as with our partners in eir and Tritium. Our team is already actively rolling out the plan to install 70 new fast Tritium chargers and we’ll continue to engage with local authorities and look forward to identifying 130 more locations around the country. This rollout is consistent with the national strategy outlined by Department of Transport and ZEVI.
“These chargers will make the transition to EVs in rural Ireland much easier and will be located in convenient town centre locations across the country.”
New Mercedes-Benz CLS
With 194bhp, and a hefty 400Nm of torque on offer, the car can sprint from 0-100km/h in just 7.5-seconds, on its way to a top speed of 235km/h (where permitted) – all of which is conducted through the glorious 9G-TRONIC transmission.
The car’s standard suspension set-up is very good, the steering is responsive and accurate, and the car feels more agile than its size would suggest. Excellent driving dynamics provide the CLS with impressive control in corners, along with a genuine feel of reassurance at speed.
When the original Mercedes-Benz CLS was launched in 2004 it created a niche in the executive car market thanks to its dynamic and distinctive design. Blending the elegance of a coupé with the functionality and comfort of a saloon, the CLS was well received by drivers looking for an executive car that looked somewhat sporty too.
The second generation CLS made an appearance in 2011, and a 5-door estate (marketed as ‘Shooting Brake’) was added to the range.
The third generation CLS arrived in 2019, and a refresh for 2022 brought with it sharper looks and enhanced on-board technology too.
SLEEK AND SPORTY DESIGN
Available only as a four-door coupé, the new Mercedes-Benz CLS benefits from lightly revised exterior styling, a new steering wheel with touch-sensitive controls, updated infotainment and driver assistance systems, and new colour and trim options.
Based on the same platform that underpins the latest E-Class, the CLS sits in between the E-Class and S-Class in terms of size and price, but it is the latter with which it shares most of its sumptuous ride characteristics.
The striking front end of the car features a single louvre diamond grille and wide, pronounced headlamps, while its

and colours on offer.
Sharing features in common with the luxurious S-Class, the new CLS comes with all of the latest generation touch-screen infotainment, safety and driver assistance systems.
Improved camera and radar systems provide an enhanced view of the surrounding traffic, while map and navigation data can be used to calculate driving behaviour.
NEW ENGINE LINE-UP
outstanding aerodynamic rating of 0.26Cd (Co-efficient of drag) ensures the car looks sleek and sporty from every angle.
The low-profile, frameless side windows and high, arching waistline of the CLS, along with its muscular shoulder line, blend smoothly into a flat rear end, while other coupé-like features include two-section taillights and a rear bumper with inset reflectors.
SUPREME COMFORT
The CLS is a supremely comfortable executive car, and it completes every journey with the minimum of fuss. High-quality materials, intuitive on-board
technology and uncompromising luxury merge in the spacious cabin of the CLS to create a unique experience for all occupants.
Soft leather, refined wood trim and metallised switch surfaces exude an air of graciousness, while ambience lighting within the cabin comes with a choice of 64 colours, and also includes illuminated air outlets for added visual effect.
For the first time, seats designed exclusively for the CLS can now accommodate five adults, and new design equipment lines allow a highly individual choice of interior design, with various materials
A completely new engine lineup powers the new CLS. Diesel units consist of a CLS 220d (RWD), along with a CLS 300d 4MATIC and a CLS 400d 4MATIC. A 3.0-litre petrol engine is available in CLS 450 4MATIC and Mercedes-AMG CLS 53 4MATIC guises, both of which offer exhilarating performance.
The diesel engines are engineered with stepped-bowl combustion two-stage turbocharging, along with variable valve-lift control. Combined fuel consumption and Co2 emissions are noticeably low in all cases.
A smooth-shifting nine-speed (9G-TRONIC) comes as standard across the model range, with all but the CLS 220d supplied with a standard four-wheel drive (4MATIC) drivetrain.
With the exception of the CLS 53 4MATIC, all CLS variants come in highly-specified AMG Line trim,
and key standard equipment includes: AMG bodystyling, AMG Line interior, AMG lowered comfort suspension, AMG spoiler lip, AMG braking system, AMG floor mats, Dynamic Select drive modes, extended MBUX functions, galvanised steering wheel gearshift paddles, heated front seats, Keyless Go, LED highperformance headlights, MBUX multimedia system, Parking Package with 360-degree camera, automatic climate control, wireless charging, and Remote Services Plus, along with a host of driver assistance services.
TEST CAR DETAILS
My test car was a MercedesBenz CLS Coupé 220d AMG Line, which was finished in everpopular High-Tech silver metallic paintwork, with contrasting 19inch AMG alloy wheels painted in tremolite grey with a high-sheen finish.
The driving position in the CLS feels comfortable and sporty, with plenty of adjustment options available for the steering wheel and figure-hugging seats.
The CLS has one of the nicest interiors in the four-door coupé class, with high-quality materials used throughout. Full leather seats are standard, but buyers can upgrade to optional ultra-soft Nappa leather if they wish to do so. The intuitive infotainment system in the CLS includes navigation, Bluetooth connectivity, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay smartphone mirroring, and a DAB radio, as well a 12.3-inch infotainment touch-screen which is centrally located on the dashboard. A second 12.3-inch digital display is located in front of the driver, in place of traditional analogue dials.
A 2,939mm wheelbase results in excellent head and leg room for all occupants, with the car’s spacious boot benefitting from additional underfloor storage, along with the practicality of 40/20/40 split-folding rear seatbacks for longer loads.
VERDICT AND PRICING
The new Mercedes-Benz CLS is a truly capable all-rounder that looks and feels sporty, while its plush interior, fuel-efficient engine line-up, excellent refinement, and terrific driving dynamics make it a desirable choice in the executive four-door coupé class. Pricing starts at €86,035 (ex-delivery) for the CLS 220d AMG Line.
Would you convert it?
The E-Type Jaguar is widely regarded as one of the most recognisable cars ever built. This stunning design icon has been lusted over by car owners worldwide since its launch in 1961. It was famously described by Enzo Ferrari as “the most beautiful car in the world”.
The question is whether it should be preserved with the 4.2 litre V6 under the bonnet or should it join the race to electrify. The MotorMarket team took a look at this beauty and produced this table to show how the conversion impacted on speed and running costs. In this case the owner opted for a manual gearbox to maintain the driving feel of the car.
The result was lower running costs combined with quicker acceleration without any impact on appearance on the outside, and of course less environmental impact. So, if it was your car would you convert, or keep it in the original condition?
VOLKSWAGEN HIRES NEW HEAD OF MARKETING
Wolkswagen have appointed a new head of marketing in Europe. In an indication how the motor industry is being seen as a commodity business, Nelly Kennedy joins from Google.
Her brief is to turn the car maker “back into the people’s brand”.
She has also worked in Conde Nast and Adidas, but hasn’t had the sort of career in the motor industry that typically would have been expected for a senior position like this.
With a name like Nelly Kennedy she must have Irish roots so Volkswagen dealers may well see her popping up on Irish forecourts one of these days.
Kilow, a car or a toy?
One of the more interesting exhibits at the Paris Motor Show was the Bagnole from offbeat manufacturer Kilow.
This tiny cross between an Jeep and a grown-up toy is a fully electric off roader. It brings a whole new meaning to word, minimal. It has been stripped of all creature comforts and the interior looks a bit like a Flintstones car with wooden
dash and an absolute absence of technology.
This battery powered fun machine is capable of a mere 28 mph and has a range of 87 miles. While it’s hardly the sort of thing you can expect to see on the N7, at a price of €10,000, in France, it just might do as a runabout on your country estate!
CLASSIC CAR PRICES
Here in the MotorMarket newsroom we like to keep an eye on the prices of classic cars to give our readers a feel for what their dream may be available for. These results are from UK auctions so if you are planning an entry into the collectors market remember that you have to factor in exchange rates, various taxes and shipping.
This 1994 Rover Mini Cooper 1.3, sold for £4,800.
Boy racers of a certain age are really keen on the Ford RS 2000. It was the sort of car that appeared on bedroom walls of pimple faced youths back in the day. Those lads have now grown to be men and in pursuit of their motoring dreams they are pushing up the prices at auction. This nice specimen was recently sold in the UK for £28,750.
CLASSIC BMWS GO TO AUCTION
While lots of car collectors are loyal to their chosen brand there are few makers that attract the devotion that BMW drivers have for their cars. An auction in Munich is about to put some truly iconic Bavarian beauties under the hammer and we thought that some might be tempt one of our reorders to expand their collection.
BMW 507 ROADSTER
This 1958 example is an early model from the BMW design school and is expected to make between £1.3 and £1.7 million.
BMW 700 COUPE
Only 35,000 examples of this little rear engined 697cc micro car were ever produced and we have never seen one on Irish roads. Surprisingly it is expected to make a modest £21 to £30k.
1987 BMW M6 This car was made to Japanese spec and since it arrived there in n 1986 it has only covered 6356km, so really is museum quality. With an expected price of between £34 and £50k it’s certainly not a cheap car.
1959 BMW 502 3.2 SUPER
This example left the Munich factory in 1959 and was delivered to a BMW dealer Paolini of Rome. It has had 4 know owners from new, with the last owner, a lady, holding onto it from 1960 to 2013. It is described as been ‘almost as it would have been new.’ It is expected to make between £31 and £50.
1989 BMW Z1
Only 8,000 of this unique drop door sports car made with composite materials were ever made. This model has only 350kms on the clock so it can be called “showroom fresh”.
The cost new was approximately £26,500 and the auctioneers are expecting up to£40k when it goes under the hammer.
A REAL JUGGERNAUT
When you name a vehicle a Juggernaut it’s pretty clear that it’s going to be quite a beast. As our picture shows this really is an intimidating road-going machine.
This unique 6x6 is powered by a Hellcat V8 pumping out 850hp which should be more than enough to win any traffic light drag race. You may well wonder what the point of this monster is, and here in MotorMarket we are inclined to agree. If you are interested in buying one the manufacturer is planning a right hand drive version but as the US price is $300k it’s unlikely to make it here, unless Conor McGregor decides to add it to his fleet.
Ford Sierra sells for £132K
The rise of of 80s nostalgia continues to drive the price of specimen cars upwards. Another record was broken recently when an 1986 Sierra Cosworth was sold for a staggering £132,750. The car was in pristine condition and
only had 8,795 miles on the clock. Now is obviously the time to start laying down a collection of cars that will be desirable in 2059. The problem is knowing what car is going to be a hit in 25 years time!
Electric cars at petrol prices
In some rare good news for motorists Volvo Cars CEO Jim Rowan predicts electric vehicles (EVs) will reach price parity with petrol models as soon as 2025.
“We think we will get [to price parity]... around 2025, where there'll be enough technology that's driving down costs on the battery,” said Rowan.
He said EV prices aren’t going to drop because of a fall in battery costs, but that batteries would decrease in size.
“Technology will drive range up. Less batteries, but more range, at less cost – we'll get there."
TOYOTA CAMRY
FIAT ABARTH
stand-in for the word ‘cross’.
SEAT ARONA
The Camry has become ubiquitous on the road around the world and, in the US, has been its best-selling passenger car since 1997.
Few of the millions of Camry owners know that the name derives from the Japanese word ‘kanmuri’, which translates as ‘crown’. Toyota has a history of using Crown and crownrelated names for its main models.
VOLKSWAGEN GOLF
Curiously, neither the Volkswagen Golf nor the Polo is named after the sports. Despite the spelling and GTI model's golf ball shift knobs, like many Volkswagen cars, the hatchback is named after geographic winds.
The Golf is named for the Gulf Stream, while Jetta is German for jet stream’, Passat means ‘trade wind’, Polo references ‘Polar winds’ and the Scirocco is named after ‘Sirocco’, a Mediterranean wind.
SUBARU IMPREZA
It’s believed Impreza is derived from the Italian word ‘impresa’, meaning a motto or a badge.
The sport-driven WRX stands for World Rally eXperimental, although the X could
The STI acronym is more interesting, as it's a trim level, but it stands for Subaru Tecnica International (STI), the Subaru Corporation division that specialises in motorsport.
PORSCHE CAYMAN
The name Cayman comes from the variant spelling of 'caiman;. A caiman is a smaller but particularly aggressive crocodile found across Mexico, Central America, and the northern part of South America.
TOYOTA MR2
The Toyota MR2 name stands for ‘mid-engine, rear-wheel-drive two-seater’.
KONA
Hyundai has a tradition of naming its SUV models after places in the United States. Kona is a district of Hawaii.
SEAT ATECA
The Seat Ateca is named after a small town in the Zaragoza province. Even the Moors that arrived over 1,200 years ago referred to this small settlement as ‘ancient’.
Almost a pocket version of the Ateca, this car is named after a small town in the sun-kissed island of Tenerife in the Canaries.
ALFA ROMEO STELVIO
Named after an Italian mountain pass, the Stelvio is named to reflect its versatility and its ability to navigate tricky, windy roads,
TOYOTA RAV4
Toyota designed the original RAV4 before the term SUV became widely known so it had to come up with its own unique name.
RAV4 means recreational active vehicle with four-wheel drive, though the model comes standard with front-wheel drive in the Irish market.
MERCEDES-BENZ EQS SUPREMELY ELEGANT LUXURY EV
The new Mercedes-Benz EQS is dedicated entirely to providing a luxurious driving experience with zero emissions. The EQS is the new flagship EV from the prestigious German brand, and it showcases a brand-new MEA platform that will also be used in future Mercedes-Benz EV’s. The purposeful exterior design of the EQS is breathtakingly elegant, and the ‘one-bow design’ is complimented by flush door handles that graciously illuminate in the dark, tail lamps in a 3D helix design, stylish alloy wheels, and light bands front and rear that exude refined modernity.
The EQS is the most aerodynamic car ever produced by Mercedes-Benz with a drag coefficient of just 0.20, and that plays a big role in the overall coherent look of the car. Measuring in at over 5.2metres in length, there is no denying that the EQS commands an imposing presence on the road, while its wide stance adds a dash of sportiness when viewed head-on.
OUTSTANDING DRIVING RANGE
The EQS is powered by a water-cooled electric synchronous motor which sends power to the rear wheels (2WD) via a single-speed reduction transmission, with the 4MATIC (4WD) drivetrain consisting of two permanent-synchronous electric motors which supply power to all
four driving wheels when required.
The high-voltage Lithium-ion battery is located between the front and rear axles in the vehicle floor, and this does not intrude into the passenger compartment, thereby maximising space and comfort for occupants.
Thanks to new cell
By BREDA CORRIGAN www.motoringmatters.ietechnologies and intelligent energy management, the EQS achieves a range of up to 761km in real-world driving.
The 108.4kWh battery can be charged at a maximum rate of 200kW, so it can be topped up from 10-80% in as little as 31 minutes. A 7.4kW domestic wallbox will provide a 10-100% charge in 15 hours and 30 minutes.
Mercedes-Benz offers three levels of regenerative braking in the EQS, accessible via steeringwheel-mounted paddle shifters. The most aggressive setting
(Strong Recuperation) offers a true one-pedal driving experience, while the middle setting (Normal Recuperation) finds the perfect blend between too much regeneration and not enough. The third option is to go for no regeneration at all, but I feel that most drivers will keep the middle setting on due to its ideal performance.
SUMPTUOUS AND SPACIOUS CABIN
The EQS does have one of the best (if not THE best) interiors of any car on the market. Swaths of aluminium and wood envelop the driver and passengers, with some piano black elements located throughout the luxurious cabin.
The EQS boasts impressive levels of headroom and legroom in the front compartment, and a second row that feels superspacious.
The seats in this car are truly sumptuous in every respect. They are crafted in high-quality supersoft leather, and they contour perfectly to the body, with ample
back support and supreme levels of bolstering.
The sloping roofline at the rear of the car does impede slightly on second-row headroom, but tall rear seat passengers will still feel comfortable due to the relatively low position of the rear bench.
Directly in front of the driver is a 12.3-inch digital instrument panel that is crystal clear, easy to read, and is able to display a wide variety of information.
Practically everything else is operated via a large, portraitoriented touchscreen in the centre of the dashboard. The touchscreen system includes augmented reality satellitenavigation that shows direction arrows on a live camera feed, along with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay smartphone mirroring.
Also standard is a voice control system that is designed to recognise natural commands for easier everyday use.
The EQS has an electricallyoperated tailgate door rather than a boot, and this provides easy access to a large 650-litres of
luggage space behind the splitfolding rear seats.
A concealed storage area under the boot floor is the ideal place to house the charging cables so that they are kept out of harm’s way.
TEST CAR
My test car was a MercedesBenz EQS 450+ with an AMG Line exterior that truly complimented the Graphite Grey metallic paintwork, while the Electric Art interior with Macchiato Beige/Space Grey Nappa Leather highlighted the immense comfort on offer to all occupants.
Optional extras fitted to my test car included 21” AMG multispoke aerodynamically-optimised alloy wheels, Active Ambient Lighting, an Air Balance Package, Climatised Front Seats, integrated dashcam, Premium Plus Package, and a radiator grille with Mercedes-Benz pattern, along with an ingenious MBUX Hyperscreen that encapsulates the most advanced display ever created by Mercedes-Benz.
The new Hyperscreen spans
almost the entire width of the instrument panel and it consists of an LCD driver display, and a central media and passenger display, in state-of-the-art OLED technology.
In the EQS, the home-screen has been completely reimagined: now you can perform 80% of the most frequent interactions directly, without switching apps.
The system reacts based on the situation, learns from your decisions and makes anticipatory offers.
Drivers can maximise the technological functionality of their EQS with the practical and versatile functions of ‘Mercedes me connect’ connected services.
The stunning Hyperscreen conceals a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster in front of the driver, a 17.7-inch OLED touchscreen display as the main interface of the infotainment system, and a 12.3-inch touchscreen that passengers can use to play games or control the audio.
With 333bhp and 565Nm of
torque on offer, the EQS 450+ can complete a 0-100km/h sprint in just 6.2-seconds, and it can reach a maximum speed of 210km/h (where permitted).
For a vehicle that weighs 2.5 tonnes, the performance on offer is impressive, and the car feels totally safe and secure due to its solid stance and low centre-ofgravity.
The car is particularly relaxing on a motorway, where you rarely have to do anything other than keep an eye on the road ahead, and your hands on the wheel, while city driving will provide drivers with the potential to achieve maximum battery range due to the usual stop-start driving associated with urban areas.
Rear-wheel steering technology is standard on all EQS variants, and it makes the 5.2metre long car surprisingly easy to manoeuvre in tight spaces and enhances high-speed stability.
The rear wheels can turn by up to 4.5-degrees in EQS 450+ guise, and by up to 10-degrees on higher-spec models. This provides the EQS 450+ with an
VERDICT AND PRICING
The magnificent MercedesBenz EQS oozes premium quality, supreme luxury, refined performance, a fantastic realworld range, and outright desirability.
Pricing for the EQS 450+ starts at €135,245 in rear-wheel drive format, with a 4MATIC all-wheel drive (360bhp) available from €140,104.
Additional variants consist of an EQS 500 4MATIC with 449bhp and a Mercedes-AMG EQS 53 4MATIC with 658bhp, priced at €151,240 and €186,710 respectively.
The EQS offers a wide range of individualisation options for the exterior and interior design. In addition to various design and equipment lines and packages, this also includes design elements and innovative features with which buyers can turn the new EQS into their very own, personalised EQS.
Silvey Fleet To Market Valero Energy Fuel Cards In Ireland
Car, van, truck and heavy haulage fleet managers stand to benefit from the announcement by Valero Energy (Ireland) Limited, the company that markets fuel in Ireland under the Texaco brand, that it has reached agreement with leading UK fuel card resellers, Silvey Fleet to market its Texaco Fastfuel fuel card in the Republic of Ireland.
In a statement announcing the agreement, it is confirmed that Silvey Fleet can now offer fleet managers and business owners, here and in the UK, access to ‘competitively priced fuel’ at more than 400 sites throughout the Republic.
According to their Ireland Director of Operations, James Twohig: “Valero has ‘a strong working relationship’ with Silvey Fleet in the UK and were keen to build on the association.”
“Silvey Fleet genuinely put customers first and focus on building loyalty and were an obvious choice. Despite their relatively recent entry to our market, we have already seen success across our network,’ Mr. Twohig said.
For Silvey Fleet, “working with Valero was ‘the perfect opportunity’ for us to further expand by taking the business into the Republic of Ireland,” its managing director Miriam James said.
“As a customer-centric business, our dedicated Account Managers continually strive to add value and help customers achieve greater cost efficiencies,” she added.
