he Spanish Tourism Office is involved in various high profile golf sponsorships in Ireland and is delighted to be associated with the Leopardstown Ladies Golfer of the Year competition since 2010. This association, with one of Irish golf’s busiest venues, provides fantastic opportunities to showcase the quality and variety of Spain’s magnificent golf product to a huge community of avid lady society golfers. Since 2010 the GOY event has been hosted by the Spanish Tourism Office in conjunction with various tourism partners. The competition has featured top prizes to the Catalunya region, Canary Islands, La Cala Resort, Costa Brava, Andalucia and Costa Daurada. This year’s competition affords us the opportunity to promote the magnificent Tenerife Golf brand, which embraces nine beautiful, contrasting golf courses in an allembracing holiday paradise. As the 2016 GOY competition reaches its climax, with the Grand Final taking place at the Leopardstown Golf Centre on Tuesday September 20th, I hope you find this 6page newsletter interesting and I wish to take this opportunity to thank society captains, organisers and members for your wonderful support again this year. And, of course, best wishes to all participants in the 2016 Grand Final. Good golfing,
Kathryn KATHRYN MacDONNELL Travel Trade Manager, Spanish Tourism Office, Ireland

ach year since 2010 the Spanish Tourism Office has arranged a great top prize for the winner of the Leopardstown Ladies Golfer of the Year competition in conjunction with tourism partners in specific regions in Spain. The top prize in this year’s Spanish Tourism sponsored Golfer of the Year competition is a fabulous trip to Tenerife, which will include accommodation at the 4star Paradise Park Fun Lifestyle Hotel in Los Cristianos and golf at beautiful Golf Las Américas. The GOY qualifying rounds, which ran from March through May, produced fifty finalists (the top two golfers in each society) and a real treat is in store for the 2016 champion. Tenerife is a captivating tourist destination located in a subtropical climate zone in the north east of the Atlantic Ocean. It is the largest of the Canary Islands and ideal for golf, total relaxation and rejuvenation with an average temperature of 23º.
PARADISE PARK FUN LIFESTYLE HOTEL, Tenerife

You can add great golf into that delightful cocktail as the Tenerife Golf brand embraces nine contrasting courses designed by such legends as Seve Ballesteros, Donald Steel, Pepe Gancedo and John Jacobs. You’ll be following in the footsteps of many leading male and female professionals who have taken part in tournaments in Tenerife, yet all of the courses are ideal for leisurely holiday golf. Direct flights from Ireland, a great tourism infrastructure offering an abundance of accommodation options, and an endless choice of tourist attractions combine to attract thousands of Irish golfers and holidaymakers each year. espite intense competition from many other destinations around the world, Spain continues to attract huge numbers of Irish golfers each year. And little wonder, as the prospect of gorgeous weather and the lure of a wonderful golf product, warm welcome and superb tourism infrastructure are, quite simply, irresistible. Of course, with a busy office in Dublin, the Spanish Tourism Office plays a key role in attracting growing tourism traffic from the Irish market, including ever increasing numbers of golfers. Golf is an important element in Spain’s marketing mix and the Spanish Tourism Office supports Irish golf on a significant scale. In addition to sponsoring the Ladies GOY competition at the Leopardstown Golf Centre each year since 2010, the Spanish Tourism Office is associated with the Golfing Union of Ireland’s prestigious Irish Mixed Foursomes event and with a series of Golf Digest golf days.
Spain has over 400 golf courses, with the highest concentration in Andalucia, which is one of Continental Europe’s most alluring golf destinations. The Andalucia region embraces the famous Costa del Sol and offers over one hundred golf courses, including famous Valderrama, (host venue of the 1997 Ryder Cup), Sotogrande and San Roque, which form a ‘Golden Triangle’. The Costa Brava in the north east of Spain has also forged a huge reputation as a top class golfing destination. There are several top quality courses situated in this region, and there is also the opportunity to discover a number of delightful courses in the Barcelona area, previously exclusive to members, that are now welcoming visiting golfers. Wherever you choose for your next Spanish golf break Andalucia, Costa Brava, Costa Daurada, Valencia, Madrid, Murcia, Majorca or the Canary Islands the chances are that the weather will be every bit as warm as the welcome!
