AUTHOR

BRENDA HENRY

Tell us about you and your brand as an author and who is your target audience? I am Brenda Elizabeth Henry, also known as "Mamu", a 59-year-old retired widow, mother of four and grandmother of five, retired after 31years of service at WMATA (Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority). I am one of the three female graduates of the class of '82 from the all-male, Alexander Graham Bell Vocational Career Development High School and the only female graduate, class of '82 from the six-month vocational training program provided by the Diesel Institute of America. Upon completion, I received diplomas from both institutions certifying that I have met the requirements for a heavy over-haul diesel mechanic. I have recently completed Prince George's Community College Business Management Program earning me an Associate of Applied Science Degree. After receiving PGCC's 2021 Business Student of Excellence Award, I am scheduled to graduate May 26, 2022. I am author of books, The Events of My Life Are My Proof of God's Existence and An Unfair Shake: The Confusion of a Black Granddaughter and I have recently been named, President and CEO of the newly established, not yet developed, We Are Saved by Grace, Inc. a 501(c)(3) non-profit facility/community/sanctuary intended to properly care for, love and service low-income Black veteran, civilian, disabled and homeless US senior citizens. My target reading audiences are those persons who have had negative life experiences and aren’t fully aware of God’s constant presence and guidance in their life. I write to share my journey and the hardships I experienced and hopefully the reader can see God’s involvement as my life changes for the better. Are you traditionally published or self-published? Which do you prefer? Both my books are traditionally publisher, The Events of My Life Are My Proof of God’s Existence was published by Newman Springs and An Unfair Shake: The Confusion of a Black Granddaughter was published by the familiar TBN (Television Broadcast Network). I am currently working on my third book and I think I’ll try my hand at self-publishing mainly because I wasn’t completely in agreement with TBN’s instructions to remove certain statements of Black truths that they thought would be offensive or inappropriate to some readers which I didn’t understand, especially when the statements were true and of how the professional editing I expected, wasn’t applied in the finished product.

What does authorpreneurship mean to you and why did you step into this arena? Authorpreneurship means that it can be profitable to share my life’s story and at the same time bring exposure and possible change to poor and neglected Black US senior citizens. I stepped into this book writing area through a course taken at Prince George’s Community College where the professor instructed our class to construct a chronological chart and a 25+ page autobiography of our lives. When I turned in my assignment, the professor read it and asked me to write more and then even more. After sharing my story with other Professors, they convinced me to publish my work.

What or who has been your greatest influence in publishing and why? Of course, my professors at the college were influential in my publishing, but my greatest influencer was a blind, woman named Elizabeth. After accidentally overdosing on my prescribed medication, I was admitted in the psychiatric ward of a hospital, where I spent three days with a blind woman named Elizabeth. We spent the three days laughing, crying and sharing each other’s life stories. She was the first person who suggested I write, publish and share my story. How has becoming a published author changed your life overall? I was bullied, teased and categorized as weird in my youth which gave me a huge complex and a negative outlook of myself. I created a box that was safe and secluded from the limelight. It stagnated me to accept to live and die an uneventful life. Becoming a published author has changed my life overall because I‘ve had the wonderful opportunity to meet kind, beautiful and encouraging people that has accepted and welcomed me without judgement. What would you say is your greatest win has been as an author CEO? My greatest win as an author CEO are my inspirational experiences with other Black female author CEOs. They empower me to continue to grow and to push forward in a very positive light. Of all the clubs and groups that rejected me in the past, my win is being included with those successful female professionals that prove anything is possible.

What’s the best advice you have received in the publishing arena that you wish to pass on to our readers and those who want to publish in the future? The best advice I’ve received in the publishing arena that I wish to pass on to our readers and those who want to publish in the future is, that everyone has a story to tell, rather it be real events or from your brilliant imagination, someone in this world would love to read it. If you can talk your story, you can write your story, then you can publish your story. Some will like what they’ve read and some won’t, but at the end of the day, you’re an author because they read it.

What has been the most effective marketing initiatives or programs you have used to promote your book? My inexperience as well as the lack of funding has limited my marketing initiatives and/or programs needed to promote my books. So far, word of mouth and this amazing opportunity offered by Ms. Tiffany Green-Hood has been my biggest promoter.

Do you have any new book or literary projects coming up (or have you just completed a big project ~ reached a milestone, etc.)? If so, please tell us about it. I am currently working on my third literary project that continues to tell of how our God is directing my path. As doors are beginning to open and my confidence is building and as it unfolds, to give God the glory, I’m preparing to tell more of my story. Who are you behind the book? Tell us who you are when no one is looking. What do you do for fun/relaxation? What’s your favorite vacation spot to unwind? I am humbled and grateful Brenda Elizabeth Henry, also known as “Mamu”. I am author and the main character of my books. When no one is looking, I pray non-stop and I’m spiritually driven to be a blessing to others. I’ve surrendered the rest of my life to serving and pleasing our Lord Jesus Christ. I sing a little and I go out of my way to make people smile. To unwind, I enjoy visiting and/or vacationing on our family’s property in Rocky Mount North Carolina. What’s at the top of your list of Goals you plan to accomplish over the next year. The goals I plan to accomplish over the next year is to become a prominent, and powerful activist as well as the voice for safe and acceptable care facilities for neglected low-income Black veteran, civilian, disabled and homeless senior citizens. I also plan to lose weight, get physically fit and solicit grants and funding for the development and start-up of my facility. Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers? If you’re well educated, then most likely you will have secured a good paying job. If you have a good paying job, you're in a better position to save money. A good paying job almost guarantees a sustainable monthly social security benefit. If you've invested in a 401K or some other successful investment, you will have prepared well with the resources for your final days. But WHAT IF, for whatever the reasons and it shouldn't matter, you couldn't afford higher education and you didn’t secure a good paying job, or you had to put your needs on the back burner to care for and raise your children? WHAT IF, your employment wasn't so great in pay, but just enough to get by? WHAT IF, you didn't have a loving, supportive, engaged family? WHAT IF, they're in the same situation or worse? WHAT IF, the long-lasting, negative effects of military service prevented you from excelling in our society? and WHAT IF, you simply made bad life choices? What happens to you in the end? For years, Society says, “Because we no longer have use for you, we don’t really care about the quality of your life’s outcome.” Society says, "If you didn't prepare for your final chapter, then we're not responsible for sharing our wealth to take care of you." Society doesn't want to take credit and denies

responsibility for unfair, unjust and/or unequal opportunities and Society won't accept the systematic, generational restrictions as an excuse. So, you’re pretty much on your own to continue to survive your circumstances. You could call several beautifully structured retirement facilities and research their websites. Where you'd see wonderful pictures of pretty green grass, hard-wood floors, new furniture and images of people happy and laughing. You'd also see beautiful community rooms with socially engaged activities, but after happily speaking to a representative for at least twenty minutes, finances are discussed, and you get the big let-down along with disappointment. You're then told in so many words with a slight chuckle in the voice, "I'm so sorry, you can't afford this place." Translated, "I'm so sorry, you can't afford to die well." You then research facilities that are affordable and what’s advertised in brochures or online if any, are extremely different from what you see in person. First of all, the smell is what hits you when you approach the facility and when you open the door, the vacuum sweep gives you a full blast of the deplorable air quality. The wonderful feeling you’d expect turns into sadness and disgust. The people are not engaged instead, they are pushed aside in an institutionalize environment seemingly abused, alone and afraid. They are slumped in a posture of despair, disrespected with stench and filth, waiting miserably day after day to die. Never again having the wonderful carefree experience and joy of simply going outside and peacefully feeling the sun and a breeze on their faces. They appear afraid of those attendants who are charged with their care, left only to silently accept their fate. Our veterans alone deserve better than that and yes, these unspoken facilities exist right here in the United States, and some are closer than you think. Out of sight and out of mind is when we turn our backs on those Black seniors who are suffering, until we imagine, if not for the Grace of our God, that elderly person could easily one day be me or you.

"THE INCREDIBLE FRANK ZAAQAN JORDAN"

M A G A Z I N E

NINE FACTS ABOUT AUTHOR FRANK JORDAN

My brand of writing goes against the natural grain of what society in general as a whole teaches, I pride myself in educating the unmentioned hidden history thats not taught in our textbooks. I have specific age range the younger the better. I love to self-publish, it gives you more of a range to explore your writing and creativity without too many parameters and a fixed tradional narrative, especially when it comes to our history. America has almost sigle handedly erraticated the greatness of our history, its my job to expose them and our genius history that never gets mentioned. My greatest influence in writing is the Supreme being The Most High , he has put together a book thats still relavant , and being talked about today and everyday we live. My greatest ispirations are our Black fore-fathers and fore-mothers that endured the rigorius hardships, and atrocities just so I can live to write about. Becoming a published author has given me the litterary voice to reachout to an audience a worldwide following to give them understanding on whats not being taught or never explained and never mentioned. Its a honor, humbling and a great privledge to have been chosen to do so. My advice to all authors never doubt yourself once you have done that your setting yourself up for failure straight out the gate. Always seek and take correction and be open to criticism it makes you a great writer. Dont set bounderies for youself go beyond the limits of your thoughts and create a masterpiece each time knowing you have created a historical document that one day may change someones life. I have a new history book that I'am currently working on " Take Another Look, The Unmentioned History Of America", this will be be my eighth published book, Most High willing. I'm acually the same person behind my books as in person lol, always sincere, truthful to what I stand for, and very much 100% authentic. But however anytime I can get to unwind its to the beach I go, lol but it must be almost isolated away from the heavy population of the public. And a good museum always relaxes and excite me. At this very moment I'am contracted with several Universities , libraries bookstores and public schools to recycle my history books throughout thier schools nationwide. We have allowed America to control the narrative of our history, family matters, and our very thoughts its time for us to change that unatural , imoral process we have been forced to accept. I thank you so much for your time I can be reached on Face Book "Frank Jordan', email zaaqan1212@yahoo.com, also you can purchase all my books on Amazon.com under Frank Zaaqan Jordan. Thanks, Frank Zaaqan Jordan

Cut the Bull and Self-Publish

for real

branding.

Without a defined brand you will be lost as an author. 98% of authors fail at book sells because they have no idea of who they are and what purpose their book will serve. Ask your self why you want to publish your book? Who does your book speak to? Do you have a marketing plan for your book? What purpose will your book serve? What are your goals for the book? How will you market your book? Are you planning a pre-order campaign Are you self-publishing or independently publishing?

Before you assume anyone who reads will want to buy your book, take a moment to clear your head. Understand that your book is for a specific group of people. Find out who they are and how to get your book in front of them.

Posting hundreds of links on your social media page will not fill your bank account with book sales. For years I have watched authors allow their books to go to waste with no plan, no branding and no goals for their book. This is not good. Your book should have a plan just like your business. Your book is a business. Outside of writing your book you should be planning how you will introduce your book to the world. Your marketing plan for your book should start 6-12 months prior to your release date. In Hollywood this is very normal. PRE-ORDER PLAN To ignite a pre-order plan you need a front book cover and a master plan. Decide what your incentive will be, contest, swag, or special pricing for those pre-ordering your book.

If Oprah her self was to visit your page what would she say? Do this, build a brand then sell your book. While your book is still in your head it can be on sale. I know the publishing company who took all your money did not tell you that.

GO TO BOOKLAUNCH.IO

This website allows you to do a few things required to build a successful author brand.

CREATE A BIO DISPLAY YOUR BOOK COVER COLLECT EMAIL ADDRESSES + AND START BUILDING YOUR EMAIL LIST (WHICH IS CRUCIAL TO BUILDING ANY BRAND.IF FACEBOOK SHUTS DOWN HOW WILL YOU CONTACT YOUR COMMUNITY?)

You can also add your pay link to this web page. Yes, see what you did not know is that you can put your book on sale as long as you have your front cover done. This means whether the book is complete or not, you have permission to start selling your book.

This option is called a pre-order campaign. All you need to do is design a cover and set the release date for your book and start marketing and promoting. We've been a part of pre-order campaigns for years with the film industry. Movies are promoted to us 6-12 before it is released and we are right there on a Friday night with our tickets ready to watch the film we've only seen a 30 second trailer for.

self-publish.

VANITY PUBLISHING COMPANIES PURPOSE AND INTENT Vanity companies are available to publish your book. You choose a package and pay, and production starts. In the end you will have a completed published book. If just publishing the book by any means necessary is your only goal then by all means, sign up with a vanity publishing company. Also, once you sign up and make your first payment keep in mind that you'll aslo be signing what they call an author agreement. I like to call it a contract. My motto is NO PUBLISHING CONTRACTS.

VANITY PUBLISHING COMPANIES TO AVOID AUTHORHOUSE XULON PRESS CHRISTIAN FAITH PUBLISHING DORRANCE PUBLSIHING XILIBRIS PUBLISHING TRAFFORD PUBLISHING iUNIVERSE WESTBOW PRESS TATE PUBLISHHING AUTHOR SOLTUIONS PALIBRIO ARCHWAY PUBLISHING BALBOA PRESS LIFERICH PUBLISHING PARTRIDGE

Think about it. If you are truly self publishing why are you signing an agreement. Lets stop here, did you even read what it says? Most authors don't. Let me help you out. The agreement says you agree to give the publishing company 90% royalties of each book you sell online via Amazon and other outlets. This agreement also locks you into only printing your book through their printing services which is normally charging 9-11 bucks for a copy of your own book. I know you didnt know you were entering into a contract with all these road blocks.

#WAKEUP

I know, you were so excited to get published you didn't read. Oh, and let me remind you that the agreement/contract is on going. This means unless you write a letter requesting to end the contract, you book will be for sale under their company forever.

Let me remind you that you only get 10% royalties from the book you wrote and then paid them to publish for you. All you really paid for was production. Think about this, if you self-published for real then why is everything is the companies name and not your name. Everything I self publish is in my name or my company name.

KNOWLEGDE IS

Every time I speak to an author that tells me they self-published, the first think I do is go to Amazon and scroll down and look at the company who they paid to selfpublish their book. Now don't get me wrong, there are some amazing independent publishing companies who are doing the right thing. The key is to read before you sign. Ask the necessary questions. I meet authors all the time who say they've done their research. But really all they researched was the best vanity company to publish their book. So, they end up spending money they did not have to spend, only to get to me and realize you need to republish the right way. If you need to pay someone for production make sure everything is in your name.

Self-Publishing means you are the publisher. You decide on the cover, the title, the price, the release date. You also decide if you want to offer pre-orders or if you want to re-launch. You are the CEO of your book. You decide everything pertaining to you book. You decide everything that has to do with your business which is your book. I know, they didnt tell you that part.

that

CEO. part.

So, here's how to PUBLISH your OWN SHIT.

GO TO. BOWKER.COM THIS IS WHERE YOU BECOME PUBLISHED. Go and purchase your own ISBN numbers here. This is the only legit site to buy ISBN numbers from. What is an ISBN number? This is the number that will go on the back of your book when you publish. This is the number the vanity publishing company gives you when you publish only because it going to be registered to their company.

WHEN YOU PUBLISH. When you self-publish for real, your ISBN number is in your name or your company name period. You can purchase one or a batch which is a better buy if you plan to publish several books.

ISBN'S FOR $20 DO NOT BUY THESE ISBN NUMBERS. You will find across the internet that companies will sell you ISBN numbers for $20 bucks. Listen to me, the reason why they sell for this price is because they have purchased these at wholesale price. They then resale them to you to publish your book under a $20 ISBN. THINK PEOPLE THINK The reason is every book that is published under those ISBN numbers will be published under their imprint.

printing. and distribution.

INGRAMSPARKS

INGRAMSPARKS is my boo. Ingram Sparks, hands down in my experience in teaching authors the self publishing game, is the best printer and distribution channel. WWW.INGRAMSPARK.COM Ingram offers global distribution, over 40K distribution channels across the global including the UK, Australia, Canada, Europe and Brazil. Ingram has minimal set up fees and offers PRINT ON DEMAND and wholesale options. In my experience Ingram has great customer service. WWW.PUBLISHYOURBOOKTODAY.INFO

There are so many discussions on finding a publishing company that markets your books for you. This is not common in the self publishing world. Most companies under Author Solutions Google That, , charge you thousands to publish and then will sell you some whack marketing schemes that do your book no good. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ When it comes to books, no two authors can afford to have the exact same cookie cutter marketing plan. Who does that? My book and your book serve totally different audiences. Learn who they are, what they need from you and where to find them. Only then will you be on the right track to building the audience that wants what you have.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ My advice is to learn your brand, message and who your book speaks to. Learn how to utilize social media correctly to grow your audience. 😎

MICHELLE OBAMA DID NOT NEED A TRADITIONAL PUBLISHER, ASK ME WHY. WWW.PUBLISHYOURBOOKTODAY.INFO

Michelle was the First Lady of the United States. She is already known all over the world. She is not begging for anyone to like her IG posts 😝 Her book sold nearly 10 million copies since its release in November 2018. My thing is this, her book sold that many copies because of who she is and the name she built for herself......The publishing company had nothing to do with her book sales. She could have very well hired a publicist to set up appearance and book signings. Book Michelle had to split her coins with Penguin Random House. My point is why give away money you don’t have to. We suffer for the lack of knowledge...... Most traditional contracts are offering the author no more than 10%. People seek traditional publishers simply to gain credibility and marketing power.

➡️➡️➡️➡️➡️➡️

If millions of people already know who you are and love you, you’ll sell 10 million books, or thousands of books, based on your name not the name of a publishing company. You can very well say, but she made big money off her book. In my mind she made nothing close to what her publishing company made.....--Amazon has her book print list price listed at $32.50 for retail. That just one format, remember she has, paperback, audio, hardcover, and kindle. She sold nearly 10 million copies. Now do the math 10 mill X $32.50=325 million coins. Yes she would have paid her own expenses for production and printing, but it clearly beats 10% which only equals out to $1 million. let’s be real 1 million coins is pennies to Michelle. Click the link in my BIO TO LEARN HOW. #writingmotivation.

Here's the deal what we are striving for, the popular folks already have. that's why its imperative to brand yourself. Simply build relationships fro your products and services.

It takes hustle to hang in the publishing game. No punks allowed. As an author you should stay ready. Always have your books in hand. Here are a few things I look for...... Do you have business cards?. Is your website live? . How many photo shoots have you scheduled? How many events have you attended?. Are you collecting emails?... Pictures will always be in high demand, social media is everywhere. These are the things I make sure my clients have in place. Are you really on your hustle or you just trying to sell books?
