Me and my buddy drove down to Eugene and camped the entire weekend in shoulder high grass with no tents, there were snakes and spiders crawling through our camp, and we foraged off the land and survived the weekend. All of my friends from all over were there and we had a blast.

Getting to wake up everyday and continue the process, training, riding my bike, and having fun across the country.

My favorite summer BMX memory is from 2020 Covid summer. COVID taught me I didn’t have to go work in a bartend 5 nights a week. I found so much enjoyment and a new path by getting to ride with my friends everyday. Shout out Corey Ried, Lexi Colby, Dan Paradine, and Riley House! Helped change my life.

The first Haro Summer tour with DB. Would hit like Rockford, Nashville then Pittsburg with a week stop at Ohio dreams….And man the shenanigans we got into on that trip was all time. I think it woulda been like 2013.

Forged in two wheels and sweaty sessions with friends, BMX Summers hold the charished memories for Novice and Pro riders throughout BMX History. As the National races continue to tick off the schedule it’s the moments in between that make the memories we remember for a lifetime. Road trips to SouthPark every year. We’d make a full road trip out of it and ride all the trails we could get access to! I miss those days.

• 30 min skills work: Rythym lines, Tap manuals, double/triple manuals, jump new stuff, have fun.

• 4 half laps with 3 min rest.

• 2 full laps with 5 min rest.

• 3 3/4 laps: start from first turn to finshline.

• 2 full laps.

• 10 minute stretch/mobility: Focus on activating your main muscle groups (legs, glutes, back, arms, neck).

•Core Circuit (x3): 30 sec standard crunches, 30 sec plank, 30 sec mountain climbers.

•Box jumps (x2): 10 Standard box jumps, 10 single leg box jumps at half height.

•Walking Lunges (x3): 10 steps down and back.

chool’s out, and the snow has thawed, making the summer months the prime time to get in the work needed. From track sessions to growing your strength in your garage or at your local gym, the summer sweat sessions are happening across the country, and we want to toss our hat in the ring for your next training cycle.

The vital part of the summer is to have fun, ride with your friends, make memories, and do those chores your parents are telling you to do before they get home, but in between that, take a go at the PULL BMX Summer Training program. Whether you’re at the track once or seven times a week, taking your

BMX career to the next level can include a slight change of consistency to take you to that next level. Let’s get into the program. The frequency is a preference from track to the gym, but we suggest as much track time as possible with at least three to four track sessions a week. With the standard weekend stack of Friday, Saturday, and Sunday racing, starting your week with a Monday track or gym session will kickstart your week into a thrive to do more to the following Monday. Gym on Monday, then alternating until a Thursday rest day will set you up for success as you prepare for big local or regional race weekends, but don’t waste your time for those weeks with the regular schedule. If

•Bulgarian Squats (x3): 12 reps each leg, focus on driving with ball of foot.

•Push ups (x4): 12 slow and controlled alternating wide and close hands each set.

•Bear Crawls (x3): 30 sec slow and controlled. with flat back and bent elbows.

•Cardio (x3): 12 burpees.

We often think back to Olympian Nic Long talking about his childhood, where he had to prove he was doing the work. Showing yourself or your parents that you’ve put in the work to earn that next BMX weekend is all-important in your BMX career. As kids, we all loved riding our bikes, and that stays true today, which makes the 30 mins of skills all the more important because of the stoke of hitting a new line, jumping a new jump, or being on the verge of looping out through a straight long manual keeps us coming back for more.

While rest days mean a break in training, it doesn’t mean not being active. Here are a few ideas for your next rest day.

•Bike ride around the neighborhood.

•Walking the dog, hiking, yard work.

•Volunteering at your local track.

•Building trails with your friends.

Volunteers make the weekend and the Music City BMX crew has some of the best that knock Music City Nats out of the park.

The fastest first straight in BMX. It’s no question that the Music City BMX speed is unmatched. Still, the racing action from this year’s Music City Nationals may have superseded that speed, with pros and amateurs making their run for the platinum record. With the pro classes jumping down to a small hill, race fans were eager to see the battles cultivated throughout the first four rounds of the series. For the amateur classes, it was business as usual; however, the focus on the first straight table was the make or break to dominate their respective classes. The excitement of the weekend and the raw speed shown by the Pro classes brought eyes to the USA BMX webcast and brought racers back to the drag strip in a big way. While she’s fast at any of the stops on the National series, Alise Willoughby is especially fast in Nashville. Going back to back for two more platinum records, Willoughby brought her training partner Lauren Reynolds along for the quick podium and even let the young blood of Rachel Mydock and Carly Kane into the podium mix. “Gnarly” Carly Kane was stoked to pop bottles on the podium since this was her first appearance on the National Series since

October 2022. Another to make the jump off of the injured list was Aussie Rookie Pro Jordan Callum. Rocking his new Mongoose digs, Callum made a splash in Nashville, finding a spot in Friday’s main event and even going across the line in fifth, earning his first-ever Pro points.

Callum locked in his first 60, but the “Top Dogs” of the Men Pro class were working on passing 600. Cam Wood, Joris Daudet, and Izaac Kennedy all hit the drag strip, but once again, the veteran had the consistent laps to lock in two more 100-point race days. Joris Daudet regains the top spot of the points chase with his teammate Izaac Kennedy creating the Cam Wood Sandwich on Chase bread.

The Dad of the Chase team, Barry Nobles, had his day at the races as he and KJ Romero went back and forth throughout the legendary track. Splitting up the weekend’s vet points, the vet battles were as fun as ever, even with a literal ejecto seato, thanks to a loose seat post clamp. With another win in the books for Supercross BMX’s KJ Romero, the stage is starting to settle on an even race for the 2023 Vet title.

From the ladies battling and piling up in turn one, like the crazy 21-30x Women battle, to the always barbanging expert boys, the racing continued to ramp up through each day of racing in Nashville.

The battles were shown best in 14x, the class quickly becoming the class to watch as new rippers joined, and the veterans age up to the 15x ranks. In Nashville, it was a perfect storm of Evan Esposito, Tommy Bruney, Chris Felker, and Rowdy Holzer, who provided knock down drag-out battles all three days. As Esposito and Bruney took the wins on the weekend, turn two and turn three took the other wins as the pack piled up, watching the podium skirt by for the 14x scores. The turns were hungry, and the 17-20x main gave them a buffet throughout the weekend. The racers to avoid the carnage for the wins were the consistently fast and skilled Drew Polk, Peter Elizondo, and Josh Jolly, who ended the weekend with a post-race send that sent him into the fence behind turn two. The battles kept coming past the future pro class, with Nick Dawson and Ronan Weber going one-two in 25x to Randy Moore dominating for the hometown crew in 56 & Over Expert.

Even with front of the pack speed, a quick inside check is possible for Rayne Lankford as he follows Izaac Kennedy into turn two.

The first step to glory is getting on the track and Aspen Jones wasted no time running away from her mechanic in 2 & under Balance Bike.

Alison Stewart charges through the rhythm section in 15-16x Girls. With Mackenzie Meath on her hip, Stewart was all business to the line.

The Champ continues his domination with a double down weekend in Nashville. Will anyone answer back before title #6 is locked in?

Crisp mornings and warm days are a staple in Albuquerque during Memorial Day weekend. Racers from 22 states convened upon the 505 and as in years past, the race action was top notch. Not much changed track wise since last year’s event, but as everyone knows Duke City has one of the more challenging tracks on the national circuit.

Fall Risk’s Aven Beaty kicked off her amazing winning streak in Friday’s 9-10 Mixed Ppen and never saw a rider out in front of her for the remained of the weekend as she tripled all three days. She’s made a big statement in 2023 and it looks like she’ll be a national contender for some time to come.

A couple of other riders showed similar three class dominance like Daylight’s Harry Leary and Aven’s Fall Risk teammate Trenton Paxman. Day One was Harry’s time to shine as he took the wins in 31 & Over Open, 61 & Over Cruiser and 56 & Over Expert. Not bad for the 64-year-old Hall of Famer.

On the other side of the age spectrum is Vegas’ Trenton Paxman. The nine-year-old clicked off 8 wins in a row, two triples on Friday and Saturday, and was hunting for the 9 Expert win on Sunday when he found himself entangled in a first turn crash. Half of the main event would join him on the ground. While it’s not the way anyone envisions ending a near perfect weekend, he still had to be proud of the rest of his outstanding performance.

Hometown hero, 15x Nick Quintana, had everyone’s attention anytime he was on the track. During Friday’s main, Black Crown’s Ian Westerman got the pop, but Quintana was coming in hot from the outside. When they reached turn one, Westerman blocked Quintana with an elbow causing Quintana to unclip and fall back to third. Amazingly he was able to recover and move back into second by the last turn and with a well-timed stretch at the finish line he’d take the win. The crowd erupted in celebration. would certainly be at the top of the list.

Day Two’s main was nearly identical to Day One. This time Quintana got the holeshot but lost traction in turn one and unclipped. This allowed Fall Risk’s Nicholas Omara to take over the lead. Quintana again recovered from third and outpowered the Californian on the last straight for the win.

Omara would get his revenge on the final day and take the win wire to wire. Quintana tried to repeat his previous day’s last straight comeback, but ended up in the infield after the final turn. What an exciting sequence of races.

This event remains one of the best kept secrets on the national circuit. If you like good food, great people, and a bit of altitude, put Albuquerque on your short list of places to visit. Just beware, the chilis are hotter than you think!

The Landonshark was on the hunt in New Mexico and gobbled up all three cruiser wins.

Privateer Nathan Loy went out with a bang on Sunday winning 16 Cruiser and a stacked 16X class.

The elder statesmen of the weekend drag race for the final two qualifying spots in a round of 56 and over Expert.

Tyler Helsel couldn’t quite crack the code in 14x but a couple of seconds ain’t too shabby.

In his final race as a 16x, Rift-Tangent’s Robert Connelly left with two wins.

Although Pat was only 29-years-old, he was a veteran of the sport. He began competing in the pro ranks when he was only 15 and quickly made his mark as a staple in the finals at every major contest.

Within a few years of his debut, Pat had taken home multiple X Games medals and countless other accolades, but was ready for a change in his riding. That’s when the brakes came off, the freecoaster went on, and Pat really started pushing BMX in a new direction. Pat’s ability to combine big tricks in technical combos brought something completely new to the sport and garnered respect from riders of all disciplines.

Pat’s incredible career featured a multitude of highlights - from his Monster Energy Dreamyard video series to his five X Games medals - but what he was most proud of was his family; his wife Chase, daughter Taytum, and son Reid, who is following in his father’s footsteps and even competed at his first FISE in France last May.

The mark Pat left on BMX - both through his accomplishments and as someone who truly loved the sport - will never be forgotten.

The Freestyle BMX world has lost one of the best to ever do it.

In Pat’s own words, “Enjoy your life. You only have one. Enjoy it.”

Give us the full rundown. When did you start how long have we been racing? All that fun stuff.

Makayla: My Brother got both of us into the sport. I started a year after he did, so I’ve been doing it since I was six, and now I’m 18, and she’s been doing it since balance bikes.

Tiffany: I started balance bikes when I was like two, and then I don’t know when I went the full track, but it’s been my whole life pretty much.

At what age did you make that progression jump of getting faster and taking it more seriously?

Makayla: When I was eight, because I could still race clips back then. I got my first pair of clips, and we would do the Canadian circuit with a lot of really good competition back in the day.

Tiffany: When I hit my growth spurt in 2018, I started winning more Canadian nationals, and it just progressed from there.

Has it been only BMX? Are there any other sports or cycling disciplines?

Makayla: During COVID, BMX tracks were all closed, so I got really into dirt jumping and then went to Whistler and did some mountain biking with all the Canadian BMX riders. Everyone would come and do that kind of stuff until the tracks opened back up, which helped a lot, skill-wise, for my riding.

Tiffany: I tried getting into dirt jumping, but it didn’t go well, so I don’t do it anymore.

So, tracks open back up, you’re both winning through the season, and you both end the year Canada’s National No.1, Makayla in Cruiser and Tiffany in Class. Take us through that Grands day, What was it like being up for the title?

Makayla: That day, I was pumped.

I was ready and warming up early in the morning, and I’m normally not a morning person, but I had really good energy because I was feeling really confident with it. But it was a bit nerve-racking being in the gate and having everyone watching and announcing.

Tiffany: In 2018 and 2019, I was also going for the title, but in both years, I lost by one point, so I was kind of used to it. That day at Grands, I really didn’t care anymore if I got it or not. I definitely wanted it, but I wasn’t stressing about it.

How was it kicking off the year back in that same venue, racing with the new title on your plate?

Makayla: It felt like the pressure was on with a lot of people watching. We were both on the shirts, which was really cool but yeah, it was a fun weekend for sure.

What’s the plan for the rest of the year? More US stops in the future?

Makayla: We’re going to do all the Canadian series for sure, and we’re

going to try and hit maybe one or two more in the US for the experience.

We see the training session on social media, we rewatch World Cups of the past but in 2023 we finally return to Abbotsford BMX on the Canadian National circuit. The training grounds for the current and future Canada powerhouses gets the amateur battles that make the series like nothing else.

The racers waisted no time dialing in the track and as the fast first straight chared into the rest of the track, the Tangent Pro/Am racers began to look up wanting a piece of the big hill racing action. As the series and track master, Alex Tougas welcomed the challenge and ran away with the top spot points and pay, The Remix and Supercross rippers were left to batttle for the final spots on the podium with Taylor Otterson taking the Friday’s second and Josh White taking Saturday’s.

Wanting some fun of their own, the ladies joined together to make a class and keep the three meter hill company. However, they weren’t company for long, as they snapped out of the gate with Rhyan Barfoot at the helm and Zoe Witwicki in that second place spot.

From big wheel to 20” the racers were going fast throught the track and National No. 1 Women’s Cruiser, Makayla Brosius was evidence of that as she claimed her cruiser battles and fought hard on her class bike, chasing down Keiley Shea and Violet Cejalvo in 17-20x Women.

Being so close to the border the southern racers are bound to come join the fun and that they did. An influx of Washington and NorCal racers came to experience the

Canadian race day which worked out for some, but for others the Canadian speed was just too fast. This was the case in 15-16x Girls as Rhyan Barfoot kept the ball rolling from her Saturday Tangent Pro/Am win into the clas win infront of Arizona’s Hannah Leakey and Tristan Pingatore. From Logan Lee dominating, as always Nat 1 Amateur girl Tiffany Brosius showed off her plate out front and Bethany Price jumped over the border to enjoy the action. The boys were lined up in staging taking notes on how its done before they tried it for their themselves.

The 6x rippers Ben Johanson, Warren Christensen, and Jasper Han must have been watching like hawks, because, they all shot out of the gate and never looked back. The gates kept dropping and the dominators kept coming. Dominators like 10x Grafton Merriam, “The RedRocket” Jhett Hickey in 11x, and Washington racer Caleb Durkin in 12x pinched their toes to their flats and dug out limestone under their tires lighting up the competition to the line.

The clipped in racers took some limestone off the surface too, especially with Josh Trerise and Mike Bryant battling in 17-20x looking to replace some scores for their US point chase. As the classes ramped up into the final laps of each day, the consistant laps capped out the weekend by Jake Shepherd, Steve Woodward, Brent PeeWee Lee, and Mike Albright all getting it done around the Borderline Nationals.

Virginia is for BMX lovers and the BMXers definitely loved the track this weekend at the Battlefield Nationals at NOVA BMX. The track crew at NOVA worked very hard on the facilities, I’m sure that you saw the video. They enhanced everything from the new walls on the turn, to repainting the starting hill, and the work didn’t end there. The crew fixed every imperfection the track received throughout the weekend. They were also on point with the battlefield theme, going as far as bringing in a real cannon. The motos remained around 180 throughout the whole weekend and the weather remained nice, except from the sudden downpour on Friday before racing. The first turn was the place for action this weekend, if the wall around the turn wasn’t there many riders would have gone over. Speaking of the wallsaround the turns, I’m sure many of you saw, if not heard of Louis Kaminski riding the walls throughout practice and even going as far as to do it in the

There was a different winner each day in 12 Cruiser with Declan Park taking the win Friday, Parker Westfall getting the win at the line on Saturday, and T’rie Huggins winning on Sunday. 13 Cruiser had a different winner each day with Logan Oudshoorn winning Day One after he pushed the previous first place rider up in the last turn, on Saurday Dorian Carreiro won, and Matt Badanik won the third day. Gavin Menditto won 14 Cruiser Friday and Sunday, with Mario Brattoli winning on Saturday. RJ Hancock won all three days of 15 cruiser. Max Marshall won the first two days of 16 Cruiser, but on Sunday JT Vrolijk took the win. Andrew Herrera won Friday and Sunday, but on Saturday Dallas Gardner won.

lat pedal pushers unite. The race of the year for the Vans-wearing, flat-snapping racers returned to Richmond BMX for its fifth year of racing action. With the crowd still buzzing from the Rad Share Rumble in Richmond the day before, it was time for speed to reign around the track. With 28 Men and 10 Women ready to race, the crowd was eager to enjoy the show.

action had a few travelers roll up to the gate looking for a piece of the big cash pot up for grabs. Between Reggie’s Bike Shop amateur Mila Kelly, Haro’s Kate Wahl, and Factory FullTilt’s Women Pro Olivia Armstrong, the battles were tight each lap of qualifying. As their main snapped out of the gate, Armstrong, Wahl, and Kelly charged down the first straight, staying steady to the podium spots and the big check waiting for them on the box. For the

Men’s side, however, the racing had more spice to the rounds and main event.

Coming into the weekend, a few names were being floated around for the win. With a flat pedal, Vet Nic Long racing, and bringing his young 17-20x ringer, Popovich was added to the hot shot list. The Haro boys were one thing, but the talent in the region showed up to play. The Supercross speed of KJ Romero had his training dialed, Local boy Zach

Drinkard brought the crowd to their feet as he railed the turns in third place, but the unbri dled speed coming out of gate five brought the thunder as Ruben Gar cia took home the win. With a little bit of carnage down the first straight and a big push from Romero and Drinkard, the race had us itching for more which has us thinking about a yearly stop off the National series to visit the local deemed “Best race weekend of the year.”

lot can change in the sport of BMX in just a few months. New riders are always working their way up the ranks and everybody is constantly striving to step-up their game. For me, it’s been six months since I’d been to a National - and just as I expected, there were a LOT of new faces in the mains, and plenty of newbies on the podium since I’d been at last year’s Grands. Between taking pics and handling the video-feed, I had a LOT to catch up on.

Pulling into Rockford, thru the rolling tundra of Searls Park, jam-packed with RV’s, tents and campers, you can’t help but feel the good vibes. Cruisin’ the pits early I walked up on fellow Hall of Famer Billy Griggs, who was already bench-racing with a group of long-time BMXers. Mr.Bill was describing how Rockford is the perfect track to come back to racing on, with its old school style smoothly blended in with modern-day technical sections. This track has something challenging for racers of all ages and

skill levels - from “The Drop” at The Rock to the burly move-making turns, and their pedal-your-brains-out finish line stretch, it’s all a part of why we’ve been coming here every single year since 1987!

We had perfect weather this year and larger than last year moto counts. As always, there was a heavy contingent of Minnesotans present and up for the challenge. Rippers such as Alex Robinson (in 16 cruiser), Kendall Ehlen (in 12 girls) and the Flyin’ Theisen Bros., took home plenty of first place hardware back to the Land o’ a thousand Lakes. 35 different states! Proof that the MidWest Nationals has built such an awesome reputation that riders from all over the globe dream of racing The Rock was Japan’s Yasuharu Matsuo, who checked it off of his BMX bucket-list by winning 4650 Inter all three days!

Impressive newbies to the top rung of the podiums (at least “new” to me) included Devin Nelson (in 17-20 cruiser), Makai Abbruzzese (7under cruis er), Spencer Sullivan (7x dominator) and Pennsylvania’s Cole Weidner (in 9x). All of these dudes were on fire all three days.

Among those riders who’ve really stepped up their long game would be Albe’s Alexis Alden, who was pretty much unstoppable all week end long and didn’t lose a single lap - usually with a solid half-astraightaway lead!

Alpha’s Cameron Wing has also been riding the comeup train. After winning 17-20x all three days, you can expect to see WingDing break into the Top-5 of NAG standings.

One more kid who had obviously been putting in some track time is Tangent’s Chris Felker. No longer the runt of his age class and having grown out of his bobblehead-style, Felker really blew me away this weekend with a 14x win, and was constantly battling up front. The girls’ classes were also stacked with talent, including Malia Alvarezwho was the only other girl beside Alden to take home a triple (on Saturday). Tulsa’s Erin Jones took her Ssquared bikes to double-wins all three days, as did Sheila Kauppi and LDC’s Mia Reyna. And we can’t leave out those quick Burian sisters, who rarely lose a lap.

As we chalk another incredible MidWest Nationals in the record books, while chomping down a fresh chicken-wrap from their snackbar, one can’t help but be amazed at how amazingly great Rockford is.

So Vans has a skate park in Salt Lake City, Utah. Some of the best riders in the series are based out of Salt Lake City. Vans is a sponsor of the USA BMX Freestyle series. It all sort of makes sense, right? The answer was, yes! It made absolute sense. Nestled close to a hillside that housed the state’s capital and all the amenities a modern downtown area could provide, this Round 5 stop of the raddest Amateur Freestyle BMX series was borderline perfect. Amazing weather, an awesome street course to stay active on and a contest course that brought out creative lines...this Vans Pro Skate Park location was one for the record books. The Ride Sooner, have fun series, is charging through the country with only two more stops until the Grand Finalé in Tulsa, OK. As the USA BMX x Stacyc World Championship series made its way through Desoto, TX and Charlotte, NC, it became clear the series for the young rippers has become a family affair as parents and race fans watch the new crop of riders develop their skills and prepare for the championship battles.

The battles are getting incredibly tight in the 5Yr 16eDrive class, where Kaeson Banks and Rowen Cetkosky are only a single point apart after Stop 5 of the series. Up two classes to the 7-yearolds, Greyson Mogensen is running away with the class and putting his hometown of Waukesha, WI, on the map at 20 points ahead of second place.

In the early 2000s, Andy Buckworth was a young Australian BMX rider with a dream. In 2023, he owns a home in Southern California with an epic trophy room and a skatepark in the backyard. How’d he get from point A to point B? Let’s find out…

When did you first come to the United States?

In 2007. I came to America to go to Woodward.

Did you plan on staying longterm?

From that trip, I was offered to return to Woodward in 2008 and stay as long as I needed.

Did you feel like being in the United States was something you needed to do to meet your BMX goals?

I knew that if I was going to make a career out of riding my bike, it would have to be in the United States. At that time, Australia didn’t have the BMX infrastructure.

When you were broke, how did you make it work?

Because I was living at Woodward Camp, my costs of living were extremely low. I also worked a couple of jobs in Australia before returning in 2008 and my family would occasionally send me small amounts of money as I needed it. It wasn’t glamorous, but we made it work!

At what point did you decide you wanted to stay in the USA longterm?

The goal was to stay in America from about 2009 onward. After Woodward, I was living with Daniel Dhers in Greenville and I knew that I needed to remain in the US to make this dream happen.

When exactly did things start really working out for you?

I was invited to participate in the Nitro Circus Live tour in 2009. That’s when I was able to save

money and start establishing myself. Then, I was fortunate enough to sign with Monster Energy in early 2010.

How difficult was it to navigate the immigration and taxation processes?

I’ve been lucky to be surrounded by a lot of amazing people that have assisted me along the way. Don’t get me wrong - there have bene plenty of mistakes and stressful situations, but we got there in the end!

Today, how exactly do you make a living?

I ride for Monster Energy, Wienerschnitzel, Bylt Basics, ODI Grips, Free Agent, Ethika, 100%, and Melin. I found that branching out into nonendemic companies and partnerships has been the key to sustaining a living in BMX. I think it’s important to see relationships with companies as partnerships and not just as free money for riding my bike. What you can do for the brand is equally as important as what the brand can do for you.

It’s 2023. You own a nice home in Southern California and have a legit skatepark in your backyard. Did you ever think this was possible?

My sole passion in life is riding my bike, so having the ramp in the backyard is truly a blessing. It’s been a lot of hard work - both on the bike and on the phone tending to relationships. Anything is possible if you work hard!

What advice would you have to any riders chasing the American dream? Work hard, love what you do, and don’t give up!

You’re basically a veteran of the

game at this point, but you’re still pushing your riding and placing well at major events. How much longer do you want to do this?

BMX is my passion and I don’t foresee quitting anytime soon. I’ll keep doing this as long as my body allows it.

Do you plan on staying in the United States when you’re done riding at the highest level?

Over the past 13 years, the United States has become my home. I love this country and I love the opportunities it has given me. I’ve established a tight network of friends here that almost feel like family. I foresee my future being in America.

Do you have any goals you want to check off the list before the ride is over or are you content?

I’m constantly thinking up new ideas and goals, but lately I’ve been taking a lot of pride in assisting younger riders and helping them navigate the early stages of professionalism.

What’s next?

I’m very content at where I am - touring with Nitro Circus and competing in dirt events. For the immediate future, I don’t see much changing!

Hayden Passanisi (gate two) and Brady King (gate four) battled all weekend in 13 Expert. Passanisi left with two wins, King with one.

Reese Halle (882) dusted himself off after a Sunday slide-out to secure a spot in the 17-20X Main, along with Brendan Felser (3).

The 2023 BMX Canada Limestone Nationals at Kingston BMX left the Ontario BMX community buzzing. Being the first event of the year in Ontario, the riders, families, and volunteers were fired up from the first gate drop. Riders from all over the continent gathered to showcase their skills on the challenging track.

I could feel the community vibes from the moment I walked up to the sign-up shack at Kingston BMX. Corie and Teresa greeted everyone with a smile as riders signed up for practice on Thursday, and their energy spread to every volunteer at KBMX. Even while raking the track during a Sunday morning rain delay, everyone had a smile on their face.

The good vibes encouraged the riders to push a little harder, and when the track was slippery on Sunday morning, riders jumped right back up when they went down.

KBMX has a steep starting hill, and the first jump comes up fast. It’s all downhill from there, and riders accelerate all the way to the finish line. Many riders’

days were made or ruined in the last few feet.

The pro section saw a lot of action, as several riders wanted to take advantage of the inside line and a little air time. Marshall Warner and Max Meinel deserve a shoutout for their impressive performance in the 11 Expert class, skying out the big doubles side-by-side.

The Ontario locals deserve props as well. Taylor Hunt from Welland and Innes Chatterton from Cornwall took home some first place hardware in the cruiser class, along with 7 Expert Mason Solc from Kingston. Zakary Kaiser from Greely put on a clinic all weekend in 15 Expert, and Gary Quill from Brampton played tour guide for the 51-55 Experts.

The competition was intense, with riders of all levels putting on a show for the enthusiastic crowd. Evan Menditto was performing every lap. He walked away with a Pro/Am win, a Cruiser win, and a 17-20 Expert win, but he faced stiff competition from riders like Brandon Bredeweg and Reese Halle in 17-20 Expert. Bredeweg took home two wins and a second for

Ssquared, propelling the team to three wins on the weekend. The 17-20 cruiser battles were also heated, with Ryan Bramer and Max Marshall winning a day each.

The Limestone Nationals saw various riders walk away with wins in nearly every class, a testament to the track and the changing conditions. It wasn’t easy to stay consistent, Factory Answer’s Kylee Niederberger had a stellar weekend, going six for six between cruiser and class. Zeronine’s Peyton Pulaski put up a heck of a fight in cruiser all three days, but she would have to settle for three seconds to compliment her 17-20 Women’s Expert wins.

Alpha’s Matthew Barone also put the pieces together all three days, leaving with a trio of wins in 14 Expert despite a significant challenge from Gavin Menditto.

Overall, the Limestone Nationals epitomized the Northeast BMX culture, with riders displaying their showmanship, camaraderie, and love for the sport, even in the mud. The event left everyone anticipating what’s to come for the BMX community in Ontario.

hat better way to spend your fourth of July weekend than being at The Stars and Stripes National at South Park BMX. And of course, in typical South Park fashion it rained. A lot. On Day 2 there was a rain delay during the second round for around an hour. However, on Sunday, there was only a one moto transfer, and it rained all day on Sunday. The track maintained itself pretty well until the semis when the third straight got very slippery. The Amateur side of the third straight was the first to get slippery. So at around 13 Expert they started to take the pro set, and for a while it worked. If you went the amateur side, then most likely you were going to slide out, but then at some point the pro-set had also begun to cause riders to fall. Throughout the end of semis, it didn’t matter which side of the third straight you took, because it was a gamble either way. There were even some motos, like 16 Experts’ semi, where pretty much the whole rack would fall at some point throughout the last two straights, no matter which side you chose to take.

On Friday at the Stars and Stripes National the women’s ProAm podium saw Sadie Herrera in First, Devin Murphy in second, and Isabella Nelson in third. On Saturday, the women’s Pro-Am podium was Devin Murphy in first Isabella Nelson in Second and Mia Custer in third

Reno, oh, how the BMX world has missed you. While athletes and families once again walked through your airport and into the Reno-Sparks Livestock Events Center, one member of the BMX Family was missing from our return. Mike “Redbone” Redman was a part of Reno’s history and will forever be remembered as the voice of BMX racing in Reno and the world. Just like Redbone would have wanted, racers came to the short track indoor ready to battle, which brought the race weekend vibes to a peak of excitement.

From the international scene, to the indoor Rubbin’s Racing action of classic ABA indoors, the pro classes were stacked up and full of first-time winners of the season. Well, except when it came to hearing, “By way of Minnesota.” An absolute master class on how to race the indoor scene, Alise Willoughby charged to her final two wins to cap out her best eight while the youngsters were back battling for the two-three podium spots. With Daleny Vaughn locking down the two spots for the weekend, Lexis Colby and Olivia Armstrong took their dirt track experience to the bottom step on the podium. While the lady’s battles brought the stands to the edge of their seat, the following pro rollouts and laps brought them to their feet.

happens in a blink of an eye. Back-to-back days of short pauses in the Men Pro main, Mike Redman wanted the action to happen quick. No easy scores were going to be grabbed up here, Kam Larsen used his quick snap on Friday to get the elbow on Australia’s Izaac Kennedy, but while they were on the white line, the other Aussie man utilized the room to move, and that he did. With clean air around him and veteran Corben Sharrah on his outside, the Ssquared ride said, “Thanks Boss,” and grabbed up the Answer Holeshot award taking it to the line. While Davis was out front fending off Mr. Tucson, Joey Leto was hunting on the podium bubble, and his time came in the third turn. With the move already in motion, Joey Leto and Kam Larsen go two wide in the turn, but in a blink of an eye, the swoop became a blast with Corben Sharrah losing his tires, forcing them up high and Larsen into a soft dirt somersault in front of the fans. It’s all good, though. The rodeo dirt that covered him on Friday became his magic dust as he went on to win the weekend with his first win of the year on Saturday and the UCI Elite Men win on Sunday. As the Men Pro ranks continue to battle with three stops before Tulsa, the big question is, who will reel in Mr. 5x? With Cam Wood and Izaac Kennedy now on the injured reserve list and World Championships shifting everyone’s focus, a dark horse is bound to break out of the fourth-seventh place spots and catch up to the Frenchman.

While the Men Pro are hunting for the points to tackle Goliath, the Vets are showing the fun times with a bunch of Davids. With the #95 bike missing from the weekend, KJ Romero, Emilio Falla, and the “Pumpkin Head” came for the excellent racing and even better post-race times. Friday’s Vet main blew the roof off the place as four Vet favorites carved through the third turn, making moves and intertwining their lines for a dash to the finish. Dancing through the weekend with two seconds, KJ Romero welcomed two new 2023 winners, Jake Peebles, and Emilio Falla, into the points chase and podium photos. Enormous speed all around the track, but the ultimate Vet Champ of Reno has got to be Nic Long for keeping the flat pedal pushing, triple-sending good times rolling to the end of the weekend.

With Nic Long watching over the amateur action from the Haro pit and the finish line, the racers were ready to show their stuff. And it started hot, with the Mixed and Expert Open classes battling through the track, preparing themselves for their pointed classes waiting for them later on. With Mighty Mia Reyna leading the

Thompson. The ladies were firing them off and risking it for the wins, precisely what the fans witnessed in a battle-heavy weekend for 15-16x Girls. At the helm of the class was the Factory BABS ripper, Nichole Foronda, laying down the speed and skill ready for the big stage! However, we want to see one racer added to the class, and she’s coming soon. Sophia Rodriguez is coming to the class later this summer, and the anticipation has twitching with excitement, especially as Rodriguez is still on the hunt for her first National Title, which she has been in search of since we were introduced to the Oregon native back in 2019. Enough dreaming of what will come; how about what is? And that is a speedy Courtney Tomei, Angela Hale, and Donna Gatz, who closed out the #GirlsClub racing in RAD fashion.

From the young guns going eight wide up and over the first jump, to Austin Peebles pedal manualing all the way into a turn two blast, the boys of Reno delivered, which is why the webcast has been on a constant loop at the PULL BMX desk. Tucked away in the houses of Vernon, BC, the Canadian and Pacific Northwest racers of BMX flocked to Vernon BMX to feel the dirt under their wheels and competition on their elbows. The fourth stop on the BMX Canada series found the top dogs of the country solidifying the scores that would ultimately take them to the forefront of the title talk later in the year. But enough fluff, let’s get into the names of the weekend. Starting with the action of the Tangent Pro/Ams.

California’s Josh White and Oregon’s Mikey Bryant came north to get some racing fun, and that they did. Series regular Taylor Otterson had his plans, watching the US boys bumping in turn three. Cutting down to capitalize on the move, Otterson charged to the line to pick up the win on Friday and tuck into the second behind Langley’s Mani Kawaguchi for Saturday’s racing. While the boys were bumping around the track, the ladies of the Tangent Po/Am

home the back-to-back win in front of Payton Duffy, Jalyn Holinski, and Jordan Riguidel. As the racing pedaled into the Amateur pointed classes, racers like 46-50 Women Cruiser’s Shylo Orchard dominated the weekend and showed the young guns where the fast lines of the weekend were.

One of those young guns to learn from Orchard was Women Cruiser Champ Makayla Brosius, who showed her skills throughout the track on both bikes. Taking shape as a continued role model of the series on the West, the Brosius sisters are playing a big role and may be featured in a different part of this very magazine.

Whether you’re 9x and named Winston Rush or Jhett Hickey in 11x, the racing action was fast as ever through the trees of Vernon, BC. Taking to the track is why we come to these races, but the time spent with friends and BMX family after the races is why we return again and again.

At 35 years old, Monster Bike Supply’s Mani Kawaguchi is certainly one of the older riders in the 14 & Over Mens Pro Am class. But, that didn’t stop him from making mains each day and finishing with a second, first and an eighth for the weekend. hitney Mesa BMX is a top-notch facility established in 2012 and located in the beautiful City of Henderson, Nevada. Mac Hopson, along with wife Jessica, Samantha and two sons Makieva “The Hulk” Hopson and Casshe “Cash Money” Hopson took over the track in 2018 after learning from renowned figures in the BMX community, John and Debi Diaz at Nellis BMX. The Hopson Family has been involved in BMX for 20 years since Makieva started racing at 5 years old. After volunteering for years Mac felt a desire to do more and bring his energy and attitude to the BMX scene, not just locally but for the entire sport.

This exceptional BMX track spans 1100 feet and is surfaced with water conserving Soiltac. Whitney Mesa BMX has gained a reputation for its excellent track design and maintenance. Mac Hopson, along with his dedicated family and volunteers have put a tremendous effort in to create a first-class racing experience for riders of all ages and skill levels.

Whitney Mesa BMX strives to create a fun and familyoriented atmosphere while also fostering competitive and exciting racing. The track is home to some of the fastest riders in the nation, evident in the Track vs Track Competitions that take place on the National Circuit. At Whitney Mesa BMX, their commitment

extends beyond riders to the community as well. They organize various series and events to keep the BMX experience thrilling. One notable event is “Road To Grands” where a lucky rider gets $500 towards the USABMX Grand Nationals. Additionally, their Halloween Race features exciting activities like the Pumpkin Rolling Contest and Haunted Pop-Up Contest along with the Easter Race featuring the Easter Bunny and Easter Egg Hunt. They also contribute to Breast Cancer Awareness through their “Pink Out” Event. The kids at Whitney Mesa BMX enjoy Mac’s Summer Games, a series of activities held throughout the summer. This year, they kicked off their night racing with a vibrant “Neon Night” event.

The facility has proudly hosted the 2022 Southwest Gold Cup Championship and will be home to the 2023 Nevada State Championship. Lastly, the Hopson Family expressed their gratitude to the volunteers who tirelessly contribute their time and effort to make Whitney Mesa a beautiful and safe facility. They want to thank the riders along with their families that support Whitney Mesa BMX. A fast battle was expected but it was all Matty Weerts taking the 16x class from gate to finishline.

Jasper Kennedy lit up the weekend in 14x taking home all three days of the Mid America wins.

That sweet, sweet Mid-West humidity. It makes champions, forges friendships, and in Raytown, MO, it laid the foundation for a race weekend full of BMX. The races kicked off hot with about two and a half hours worth of racing right up until the storm of all storms ripped through the track, taking canopies, banners, and almost a couple of kids with its 70+ MPH winds.

The winds calmed, and the rain dried the perfect track for a two-in-one special on Saturday. With a 9 AM start time, the Day 1 action immediately started with fast laps. With Kenadie Neelan charging by Preston Gould in 13-14 Girls Cruiser and a full rack of 36-40 Women Cruiser class preparing the turn two crowds for what was waiting for them later, the Friday on Saturday racing was the filling appetizer that had us ALMOST tapping out once Saturday’s Mains were charging around the track. The big topic of Friday’s mains was the bunny hop that almost was. Drew Polk reeled in the Texan, Cameron Wing, through the second straight, and just when Wing thought he was in the clear, his tires went to the sky, forcing Polk’s instincts to kick in. Jump, Jump high. Just tagging Wing’s front wheel with his back wheel, Polk’s tire blew from impact, causing him to wreck and wait until later that day to get his win class win in Missouri. While only two class wins weren’t exactly what Polk came to the Mid America Nationals for, he did make up for it with

two Tangent Pro/Am pay days joining Rita Fedewa and Lola Jonjevic in the Tangent winner’s circle.

With the rain on Friday and a two-for-one day on Saturday, the weekend was returning to normal. However, Mother Nature had a different idea regarding Sunday’s race day. Charging along, through motos, past some very fast quarters and semis, and to the Cruiser classes, the black cloud rolled through God’s country. As I (Justin Wahl) stood on the finish line stage with an umbrella in hand, shielding Jen Morris from the elements, it was clear the Main event action would have to wait for the sky to clear. And clear it did.

The blue sky peaked through as if it was written in a storybook. But with the elements still lingering on the track, the racing changed from, “Go fast” to “Go fast and stay up.” Balancing the line between timid and eager, the fans held their breath, hoping safe lines would prevail. For 17-20 Cruiser, they did not, and who capitalized? None other than the traveling track official Aaron Alensonorin. As bikes and bodies sprayed across each turn, “Spartan” kept it together for what we believe is his first national win ever. The spills were heartbreaking, but the moves that stuck were exhilarating, and Jim Riley’s reactions are the perfect representation. The pure joy from Riley’s mic watching the 17-20x Women make it through turn three unscathed.

LOLA was fast and we can tell she’s itching for that 15th birthday to jump into the big girls class.

Good call boys, The Mangler out front is the best for everyone’s well being.

Lil MJ Marlee Holladay laid the power down for the Reno Racing crew locking in multiple wins on the weekend.

August is here and this means 4 key things for the membership department –

1. No more district transfers after August 1

2. The beginning of the finals for the State/Provincial Series

3. Preparation for Gold Cup Finals

4. Deadline for single point races for an alternate ROC qualification is September 15

Here are a few reminders to get you through the next two months:

l The State/Provincial Pre-Race does NOT count as a qualifier

l Bonus points have already been added in to your score prior to your final

l The points for the State/Provincial final are doubled (except in OK & CT)

l Novice and Intermediate riders are plated together

l The website shows the riders age at their respective State/Provincial Final

l Gold Cup bonus points need to be done by August 15

l The website shows the riders age at their respective Gold Cup Final

l Remember to qualify for a Gold Cup Award, you need two qualifiers in the same region as the Gold Cup Final
