From January to November, racers put together their season, leaving beautiful moments to be captured and remembered when the season of reflection hits. With nonstop action winding down, let’s take a look at the racers who made an impact and the photographers who captured the moment.

What more can be said about Jason “The Big Cat” Morris. A force on and off the track brought a World title, two ROC wins, two Grands wins, and two NAG No.1’s back to Title Town.

New Jersey’s younger Menditto brother has made a name for himself this season picking up wins in both bikes and climbing through the ranks to become a heavy hitter in any gate.

Canada’s Jhett Hickey had a wild ride in 2024. Going from a broken leg in March, infection through the summer and ending it with a win in November. This kid is as determined as they come.

We all have our preferences on geometry and materials but based purely off looks, Molly Simpson’s Daylight race rig caught our eye and continues to dazzle.

Debuting the new FLY Racing catalog at the Derby City Nationals, Carly Kane’s Huffy Jersey and FLY leathers were a perfect match to look good on track.

The Olympic Games gave us plenty on custom

helmets to ogle over, however, Kam Larsen’s digi-camo with Screamin’ Eagle topper takes the cake as best lid in 2024.

On the Amateur side of the 2024 BMX Battles, 14 year olds Lily Ashley and Landon Burian put on a progression driven battle that culminated in the two going head to head at the Greatest Race On Earth. With plenty of racing ahead of them we don’t expect either to go down without a fight.

A fan exhilarating fight between the three top dogs of the series put fan base against fan base as Cam Wood and Izaac Kennedy entered the late season Title Chase with Olympic sized chips on their shoulders.

JAMES PENNUCCI

“I took this picture when I was at the Carolina Nationals in Rock Hill during Sunday morning Pro warmup. Sunday morning at the Nationals is one of my favorite times to take pictures because you can shoot into the low sun and sometimes you get really killer skies to bring the images to the next level. You never get the early morning shots like this at any other races because practice starts much later.

This was a tough image to capture mainly because of the limited time to take it before the color in the sky faded. I set up lights on the first jump out of turn one on the Pro side of the straight. I picked this spot because there was a clear view of the sky and it was looking insane this morning. To properly expose the sky I needed to light the rider just a little more than the sky. I did not have high confidence that I would get a rider to hit the jump because a lot of the Pros do not hit the second straight during the morning warming up, and unfortunately this is the only jump with a clear view of the sky so I was stuck here waiting and hoping someone would come by and catch some air. To complicate things, I also did not get to take any test shots to see if the lighting was correct, if the lights were set too bright or too dim the picture would not be nearly as good. I waited a long time and the color in the sky was starting to peak, I was starting to think that I would get skunked. A minute or two later a few riders came through, and to my surprise the lighting was perfect in every shot! This was the best of maybe 10 images I captured in this spot this morning.”

“After Sunday’s mains at the Golden State Nationals in Bakersfield, I headed out to the track with Kylie Shatswell and the Lomeli Sisters to make some High Five photos. In the middle of making photos I hear Madis yell (with the biggest smile on her face) “look, there’s my guy!” I turn to see her running towards announcer Erick Grindle and knew right then, I needed to get a photo of them together.

Grindle has such a way of making each and every rider feel important, whether it’s a nickname or a small, personal fact. But one thing Grindle has really done is brought attention to just how badass the girls and women of this sport are. There’s no doubt that when people hear his infamous, “WELCOME TO THE GIRLS CLUB!” people are paying attention!”

JUSTIN WAHL

@pullbmx / @usabmx

With 29 National races through the year, many of my photos mash together in my mind. However, one group of shots from the 2024 season continues to stand out, not only because of the photos, but also because of the environment I found myself in.

BMX in the Pacific Northwest is a unique ecosystem, and each time we make the trip up to Emerald Valley BMX, I’m reminded of that. In 2024, I was able to join the Saturday Night trail jam after the second day of racing, and the community I found myself in was formed solely by two things: bikes and stoke.

As clouds rolled through the sunsetting sky, a backdrop emerged that drew my eye from the subject to beyond. This was my first time shooting trails with flashes, and I wanted to not only test my camera skills but also capture the BMX-loving lifestyle of these riders. That shot came with Trenton Jones, a man in the clouds.

I love the cloud backdrop, but it’s the contorted Jones and his bike that make this photo my favorite. The loose grip in the left hand, finger on the lever in the right, and a perfectly placed side shot of his Odyssey-backed Chromoly gave me everything I wanted to show the BMX lifestyle in the PNW.

BIANKA LATHAN

“Capturing the moment of two BMX dads enjoying themselves during evening practice at Rock Hill, South Carolina, was quite a challenge. With the Carolina Nationals starting the following day, the track was crowded with riders and spectators, making the task even more difficult. Timing, patience, teamwork, and the enthusiasm to go for another lap were essential. I envisioned capturing Barry Nobles positioned slightly over Nic Long, framed between the lights, at a moment when it appeared there were no riders on the track—and we got it.

This is my best shot of the year because it represents teamwork and conveys a “rock-on” vibe. It was the first time I attempted to achieve a specific composition, and we all had to collaborate to get it just right. Additionally, it felt great to be involved with the best in the business. The entire experience is something I will never forget.”

STEPHEN SMITH

@stephentsmith

“Sylvain Andre is no stranger to the USA BMX National series, though the general racer or fan may not be all that familiar with him. Over the years I’ve gotten to know him on and off the track and I am proud to call him a friend. In October of 2023 while shooting the World Cup in Argentina I saw Sylvain mid-pack coming down the second straight… space was tight but he’s pretty talented in those tricky moments. I fired off a few frames and saw a crash unfolding. I held the shutter button down. What transpired was one of the more brutal crashes I’ve captured and my usual “got the shot” never came… in its place was a solemn “oh sh**… I think I just watched Sylvain’s career end.” He was carted off to the local hospital and racing went on as scheduled. To my surprise, I spotted him a few days later bandaged up at a local coffee shop and ready to support his teammates as another weekend of racing was coming.

True to his upbeat personality and his “Live to Race” motto, Sylvain managed to get through surgeries, rest, recover, and get back on the bike. Though at this point, Olympic hopes seemed a long way off.

Fast forward to this year’s World Championships in Rock Hill. It was, to my knowledge, Sylvain’s first race back. Adding to that pressure, he needed a podium in order to earn his spot on the Olympic team. He delivered. This image was taken shortly after the Men’s Elite Final, where Sylvain managed to sneak out a third place at the line, earning his spot on the team for the Paris Olympics. Pictured with Sylvain is Vincent Pelluard, a former French racer and long time friend, showing a FaceTime with Sylvain’s wife and child at home… celebrating the triumph together. It’s a moment easily missed, but one that captures so much emotion of the past struggles, current accomplishments, and ultimately foreshadows his continued drive that later resulted in Olympic Silver in front of the home crowd.

Congratulations Sylvain. Proud of you.

TEAM STANDINGS AFTER THE GRANDS

Words & Photos by: Justin Wahl

Throughout our time taking photos of BMX, we’ve heard about this special place in the Chilliwack Valley—a barn where Canadians go to start and end their season with dirt track racing like you’ve never seen. In 2024, we were lucky enough to journey up to the legendary Red Barn to experience Canadian Grands.

Walking into Chilliwack Heritage Park on Day One, it looked like the indoor nationals we have come to know. However, once racing began and the fenceline started to fill, we saw why so many covet the environment of this race weekend. With an outer U to an inner U layout waiting for racers, the first and second straights were out for speed and fan-exciting racing. Stepping up the difficulty through the track, the triple into turn two proved to be a focus point during the early hours of practice. Yet, the competition came to appreciate the challenge by the final races on Sunday afternoon.

For the Pro/Am classes, it was Dangerboy domination as Zach Frier and Keira Murphy took home the titles. Both racers put down impressive seasons, but it was Frier who utilized the dirt track craziness for his 2024 title. Finding himself in the mix of the pack, a turn-two bump put an added body-shaped pile on the track, allowing Zach Frier to work his way around for a last-turn pass for second on the day and first in the season overall.

The white and orange kits weren’t done there. Day after day, Nico Martinez searched for his way around the black and gold

ELBOWS UP: The battle of the 2s hit the track with Drew Solmes and Ian Ledesma in 15 Cruiser.

HOLESHOT HUNTING: Colton Hackett, Milo Menchaca, and Yiteng Kao head into a holeshot hunt for their 11x lap.

Tangent kit of Dallen Bereton-Stiles. On Friday, it was the first turn; on Saturday, the third turn, but Sunday, when it mattered the most, Martinez made the move in the very turn that claimed him the previous race day to become 2024’s National No.1 Amateur Boy for BMX Canada—a battle-heavy year for the two ended with a title and a fist bump at the finishline, both ready for more in 2025.

Inside and out, the Canadian Grands saw Daylight, and in the Amateur Girls title chase, it was Logan Lee’s speed that shined throughout the track. With a fast 13x Girls main event, Lee crossed the line and jumped into the hot seat as Tiffany Brosius took her snap to regain her lead. Crossing the line in the pack, Lee’s friends began to celebrate as she walked towards the finishline to claim her 2024 National No.1

Title.

Gearing up for the big wheel classes, the fans would have to wait until the last few racks of the cruiser action. After Saturday’s mains, defending Women’s Cruiser Champ Makayla Brosius and Jennifer Bitz did the math and saw their title chase tied up. With one extra rider in Jennifer Bitz’s class, the Ladies Cruisers were ready to watch their competitor claim the title with a “Bitzy” clean lap. With a stack of 24” wheels waiting for her at the finishline, Jennifer Bitz got the job done and claimed her 2024 National No.1 Women’s Cruiser Title for herself and all the ladies in the Women Cruiser ranks.

The Men’s side of the Cruiser Title battle would also

come down to the later classes, with Randy Riches awaiting his main event lap. Defending Champ, Jhett Hickey unfortunately had to cut his weekend short with lingering pain from a past injury, opening up the title chase for Riches to capitalize in Chilliwack. After a dominant year on the Canadian National series, Randy Riches snapped out of the gate and took his shot at the title, hitting dead center and claiming 2024’s National No.1 Cruiser.

Outside of the individual titles, the coveted Title Team crown was ready to be claimed. With a rockstar squad, the RIFT/Tangnet

Canada squad came into the Candian Grands weekend with a big lead against the competition. After a weekend of dominant laps and plenty of skill, the black and gold team hoisted silver and head into 2025 champions.

Looking back on the weekend, coming in with plenty of unknowns, we have become fans of the Canadian racers, families, and teams that fill the northern tracks. With a close-knit family atmosphere and talent to rival anyone who dares to load into the gate, we can’t wait to return to the Chilliwack Valley.

MOTOFILL SPEED: Former Champion, Tiffany Brosius cranked out of the first turn ahead of a stacked 15-16x Girls group.

INSIDE EYES: Locking down the inside line, Ethan Popovich made his presence known around the track at the East Coast Nationals.

& Photos by:

Chesapeake BMX is easily a favorite Northeast track for many, and it is always a killer place for a USA BMX National series race. From the track surface, to the branding, the track just looks awesome too. When you look around the track you can see how much thought was put into making the track look nice, they had nice Chesapeake BMX branded tents out on the track for the volunteers, and even put up big letters in between turns one and two spelling out “CHESAPEAKE” like the TULSA one at Grands. Chesapeake BMX is also one of those tracks that breeds fast riders, there were quite a few super fast local riders out there this weekend. If you have never been to Chesapeake BMX it is a different shape than the normal M shaped tracks that are found all over. The first and last straights run parallel next to each other, but the first straight ends in a long turn or back straight. I was talking to Charlie Ellis and Tom Sinchak trying to figure out what they called turn two, since the first turn kinda goes all the way around back into another turn. They were not even sure and said that they do not agree on what to call it and call that area different things. In the end there are four turns and five straights from my point of reference for this story..

The weather was perfect all three days, it started out cooler in the mornings but warmed up quickly, there was not even a cloud in the skies any of the three days. With this race being in the fall in the Northeast the trees were also changing colors, so that also added to the look of the track. We had a decent moto count as well, 165 on Friday, 182 on Saturday and 160 on Sunday.

On Friday after practice ended, Dominick Coates sang the National Anthem and we ran a few racks of balance bikes, most of which were full gates. That’s such a great way to kick off the weekend. Once the balance biked concluded their racing on days One and Two, the male and female Pro-Am Opens ran. Day One the Female Pro-Am Open podium was Keiley Shea first, Avery Jones second and Taya Boeker third. Day Two was jumbled with Taya Boeker in first, Avery Jones second, again, and Camryn Searfoss in third. The Day One male Podium order was Jake Pletscher in first, Noah Barton in second and Ethan Popovich in third. Day Two was also jumbled with Ethan Popovich in first, Jake Pletscher in second and Marshall Gehrke in third.

Tatum Brindley won all three days in 6 Girls Expert. On Friday local rider Penelope Leong won in 7 Girls Expert, but Ella Kishpaugh won Saturday and Sunday. In 8 Expert Stella Palomaki won all three days. McKenzie Davis won Friday and Saturday but she had a bad start on Sunday and Eden Ireland won. Silvia Palomaki and Cali Kopetskie won all three days in 10 & 11 Girls Expert respectively. In 12 Girls Expert Grace Adloff won Friday and Saturday, but she was overtaken by Mary Watson on the first straight on Sunday and Watson held onto the lead and won. Sophia Tilley won Friday and Sunday, however, Audrey Bertrand had a great first straight and won on Saturday.

DISTRICT v WORLD: In The Zone goes up against the world plate, as Matt Badanik goes up against Brady King in 14x.

THE DEVIN MURPHY SHOW: The reigning NAG No.1 comes to dominate once again taking the National laps by storm in 21-30x Women.

Kaylie Cerasa won all three days in 14 Expert Girls. 15-16 Girls Expert had a different winner each day, Taya Boeker, Alma Pineiro, Lola Jonjevic won in that order. Keiley Shea and Devin Murphy won all three days in 17-20 Women and 21-30 Women respectively. In 41-50 Women Expert Sonia Badanik won Friday and Sarah Cugler won the next two days. Chrissy Piper won the first two days in 61 & Over Women Expert and Kelly Theologou won Sunday.

Lincoln Moore won all three days in 5 & Under Expert. Jaxx Fowler won the first two days in 6 Expert and Sawyer Murphee won on Sunday. Chase Reynolds won Friday and Sunday, but Jethro Salva won on Saturday. Grayson Cox won all three days in 8 Expert and Chayse Eckl won all three days in 9 Expert. Coye Weidner won Friday and Saturday in 10 Expert, but when he left the gate on Sunday he collided with a rider and Cruz Gallegos took the lead and went on to win. Cody Young won Friday and Sunday in 11 Expert, but on Saturday Charlie Noyola passed him right at the line

U.P. POWER: Silvia Palomaki has been bringing her speed down to the series from her Upper Peninsula training grounds. Impressing her competition and the media covering the action we are excited to see more of the Marquette BMX local. and won.

In 12 Expert Brady Hubbard won Friday and Sunday, Ryan Rabinowitz won Saturday. William Wetendorf won the first day in 13 Expert but Patrick Martinez won the next two days. Kaiden Ireland and Gavin Menditto won all three days in 14 & 15 Expert. Griffin Kelleher led the whole lap on Friday in 16 Expert, but Tyler Helsel reeled him in and passed him at the line, Griffin Kelleher won the next two days. Gavin Stazetski won the first two days in 17-20 Expert but on Sunday Ethan Popovich passed him in the last turn and won. In 21-25 Expert Ronan Weber won the first day and Solomon Goodwin won the next two. Kit Bjerk won Friday and Sunday in 26-35 Expert, but Eric Muller won Saturday. In 36-40 Brendan Looby won the first day, but Dave Hall won the next two days. In 41-45 Expert Chris Monasmith won all three days as did Brad Hulbert in 46-50, Renato SIlva in 51-55 & Andie Currie in 56 & Over Expert.

Dust floating into our lungs, the sweet hints of diesel in the air, and morning light shining through the east facing windows. Its the Pre Grands excitment in beautiful fashion as Billy Allen moves earth for rubber and metal to make BMX history.

Only two entities remain undefeated throughout the cosmos: Father Time and Mother Nature. And as the 2024 Gator Nationals inched closer, so did the storms that devastated the East Coast and Florida Peninsula. Slotted for the Florida super track, Oldsmar BMX, the Gator Nationals action shifted north to Rock Hill, SC, for the second to last regular series National and final chance for the Pro classes to battle before the Grand Nationals over Thanksgiving weekend.

Going into the weekend, racers knew the facility like the back of their number plates, which put racers' off-track preparations on full display. For the first class of racers hitting the track, the Montana-grown, Arizona-built speed of Landon Burian charged down the big hill in SuperX Women. Taking the back-to-back wins, Burian paired them with big battles on the Amateur hill, battling with 14x Girl powerhouse Lily Ashley. The pair have had a continuous match-up during the season, and the late-season push to Grands is no different for the two. On the male side of the SuperX class, the wins split between California’s Profile Ride Drake Velador and the Rock Hill local Chris Felker. The two earning world plates from the small hill just a few months prior took their speed up and down the big hill to preview their future big hill laps.

Into the premier BMX classes, the Men and Women Pro racing came for redemption, dominance and everything inbetween as the Title Chase continued to sizzle. Dawning the Rainbow jersey, Alise Willoughby led the front half of the Women Pro pack as the rising stars of the class hunted for their big scores. Waving the American flag infront of the world on her last visit to Rock Hill, Willoughby waved a pair of wins from the podium leading in Payton Ridenour to the finishline on both days. For that highly contested three spot, Mrs. Podium Lauren Reynolds and Lightning Lexis Colby split the bottom step from Friday to Saturday. Just one step off the podium, Molly Simpson continued her charge for the title, taking two fourth place finishes to help chip away at the points difference going into the Greatest Race On Earth.

As the crowd hushes and Grindle’s booming echo fades into the Rock Hill neighborhoods, the Men Pro top dogs charged into a fan-thrilling 10 second Answer Holeshot. Coming out of the first turn three wide for Friday’s Main, Izaac Kennedy, Kam Larsen, and Cam Wood fought for position through the second straight, lining them up in the 1-2-3 order with an impressive Jordan Callum fourth place kicker. And now to Saturday.

Bad blood, big battles and plenty of athleticism just inches apart, Izaac Kennedy and Cam Wood continue their late season battles

DIVING IN: The 17-20x racing brought big names of the class into the Gator Nationals Motosheets and who was on the point? None other than Sean Day.

up and over Rock Hill’s first jump. Getting out just a hair better than Aussie, Izaac Kennedy, Cam Wood fought for the inside forcing an unclip and save from the Chase ride and leaving some clean air for Answer’s Kam Larsen to drive hard for the Answer Holeshot. That lead held strong until the Cowboy found his rope down the last straight. Cutting down in turn three to see an open path to the line, Wood’s double manual through the the step up made the difference and put the 12 bike on the top step and forcing the threeway winner take all race for the Men Pro Title.

Dropping down a hill and anticipating the fan favorite class with Barry Nobles, Jeff Upshaw, and Emilio Falla, all charging to the front of the pack for Friday’s Main. Favoring the outside gate pick at Rock Hill, Nobles had to beat the smooth lines and big power of Upshaw down to turn one. With an inside line Falla, tucked into the second out of turn one but Big Jeff was looming in third waiting for his time to strike. As both Nobles and Falla get loose down the second straight, Upshaw sees his opportunity to strike around the outside. Now in second and looking for the highlow in turn three, Upshaw charged to the pass but even with a goggle adjusting bonk by Nobles, the Pride of Idaho would have to wait until Day Two to climb the top step of the podium. That Saturday Vet Pro main saw a bit of everything thanks to a crowd igniting Upshaw Holeshot and Pro set boosting airshow from Nobles. Pulling the competition down the front straight, Upshaw solidified his Answer Holeshot, with a five foot pull on to stretch away from the pack and charge to the win. While tech lovers marveld the big man lap, a Falla elbow shut down the Alabama

THE YOUNG GUNS: McKenzie Gayheart and Ava Corley put Bright and Factory to action as the two work their way through the Women Pro class.
STILL BATTLING: Just Listen to the names: Justin Riddell, Barry Nobles, Jeff Upshaw, Corey Reid. Legends of the Pro classes stilll snapping into the action.

GETTING GNARLY: FLying high over the second straight double, “Narly Charlie” Noyola shows us his sole during Friday practice.

TALENTED TOUGIE: Meter by meter Ryan Tougas is climbing up the ranks to becoming that guy and his Men Pro Semi win proved it.

A, “Where were you when…” moment as the 95 bike hit the big side and tabled over the pack for a true reminder why BMX is our favorite sport. Vet Pro kicked it off on the small hill and the heavy amateur battles were ready to match the stoke through each of the weekend’s mains. While the change in venue may have dented the motocount there was no stunting the talent at the gate. The Rock Hill gate is no stranger to talent as the local crew of racers bring fast gates and big battles to the National Circuit. With the results page of the weekend scattered with North and South Carolina racers, Cali Kopetski kicked off the Carolina speed in the 11-12 Mixed Open racing and again in 11x Girls where she went to battle with the Bleu Cheetah, Sawyer

Smith.

Putting on Cruiser control for the North Carolina dominance of Matt Badanik in 14 Cruiser, the kid had the class and the top spots locked down, sweeping the weekend for his In the Zone posse.

From being in the zone to firing the JETs, 12x Girls saw the home grown speed of Mary Watson taking on the top step of the class and kick starting the string of domination in the girls' club. From Watson to Tongue Out Tilly to the battles of Burian and Ashley, through to the premier speed of Sadie Herrera and Rita Fedewa the girls' club teenagers showed their presence in Rock Hill.

From teenageers to the little dudes, 7x saw Hollywood making moves around the track. Chase Reynolds may have been beat to the holeshot, but his local lines brought him a fast back half of the track as he exploded out of the second turn making the pass to lock in the first place trophy ticket on Saturday and on all three days of racing. Just a few classes later, the little dudes got the Factory treatment as the Factory FullTilt/ Radio boys of Hutch Griffith and Nitro Nico Moulton dominated the class in 9x.

Rock Hill in the fall is special for a couple reasons. The leaves are turning that perfect collage of fall colors, the crisp air rejuvenates your morning lungs and Mason Hayes always seems to find the late season win. We saw it in 2023 at the Fall Nationals and once again in 2024 as Mr. Hayes powered to the 15x win on Sunday afternoon. Climbing up a spot from his second place finish on Saturday, Hayes put the Mongoose USA BMX Foundation colors out front to round out the team’s weekend, another killer event at the Rock Hill BMX super facility.

A CUSTOM BATTLE : TLD vs FLY, ALise Willoughby and Payton Ridenour battle around Rock Hill with two of the best sponsor slapped lids in the class.

GLOVES ON TILL GRANDS:

The place where it all started. Southern California has a special aura around the BMX scene. That aura can be felt on the City of Industry hillside when the SoCal Nationals roll into town, and with it only being our second time in the Industry Hills Expo Center, racers and their families returned to the indoor build before attention turned to Tulsa. With early talks of racers loving the track, we knew this final regular season race would be one for the books with fast flow and big moves.

With the final scores to bump racer’s NAG and National positions on the line, the build crew laid down a track supporting power and flow, while keeping you on your toes for the chaos to ensue. Down the front straight, racers were met with a flat hill to keep their sprint form honest and a double–roller–step-up leading them into the turn. That double-roller start to the track brought a few different options to get over. While some went for the more traditional approach, Ian Westerman opted for a double manual down to the roller that set him apart from the pack, leading him to the Saturday/Sunday 16 Cruiser win. Each class had their own flair to the front straight racing, which could be seen in the Pro/ Am classes to kick off the weekend. With some track time under their belt, the Female Pro/Am saw two factory dominators (and future champs) taking the first straight bar to bar. Landon Burian and Sadie Herrera charged out of turn one, safe from the carnage behind them, seeing some cheddar and valuable Grands prep ahead of them. Flipping the first and second-place finishes from the day before, they will have to wait until the 2025 season opener to break their SoCal Pro/Am tie. A gate later in the boy’s rack of Pro/Am action, it was all Vicuna, with Gus keeping his front tire low through his first jump pedal manual and his back tire poppin’ for his second straight taps. With explosivity being at the top of his strong suits, his tap manual over the triple-sized step table into turn two shouldn’t have surprised us, but here we are still thinking about it. Towing in Brady O’Neil from the Daylight squad on the two, third place took a bob and weave through traffic as Drake Velador found his way to the Day Two podium.

As the weekend to hunt for last-minute scores, racers left it all on the table, including top dogs from the Cruiser classes. In the young gun Girls Cruiser class, the turbo button got its use, with Teagan Leeper taking charge all three days. A few classes later, the SYNDYT squad was on their feet for 13-14 Girls Cruiser, watching their Zilla Monster, Eliza Newton, land the Friday/ Saturday top spots. Dominating her classes and claiming one of two triple-doubles on the weekend, Maddie Desantis hit the 21-30 racing with authority, grabbing the full six-pack from the SoCal Nationals.

Claiming the other triple-double was the Idaho local, Andy Andree, laying down fast and smooth laps after being inspired by a few of the younger rippers while he was in the staging chutes. In 9 Cruiser, Johnny Rotten Stubbs kept it fresh on the top spot, throwing a look back to his competitors as he took the win in 9 Cruiser. In the 9-year-old 20” racing, Dylan Myers kept it fresh out front with Chayse Eckl on the hunt. Myers grabbed up the first two wins of the weekend, forcing Eckl to wait until Sunday

to grab his final class win for the regular season. A class Andree and all of us can learn a thing or two from loaded into the gate with freshly printed learners permits tucked in their wallets. The 15x racing brought a stacked field as always, and the Saturday main came with a fun factor thanks to Factory Supercross BMX’s Justin Perkins leading the pack around the track. As Perkins crossed the line with a “Heck Yeah,” our eyes shifted to the runner on the track. Getting a little cross-training off the bike, Shatty Shatswell finished his lap with his bike in hand and a free hand to pump up the crowd down the last straight.

When we first set eyes on the track, our general pan pin-holed into the third turn, and we were already excited to see the up and over that was bound to come. Well, on Sunday, that up and over came from 21-25x. Set up like this down the third straight, Austin Peebles on the point, Jackson Elliot and Tyler Cacciola in a heated battle for the two spot, and Levi Folkrod on the charge down the inside of the straight. From fourth to second, in a matter of seconds, Levi Folkrod found himself side by side with race leader Peebles into the third turn. The two connect a third of the way through the turn, bringing them to and past the apex, forcing Peebles up and over into the spillage. While the two were on top/over the turn, Jackson Elliot had his move set up, claiming the fourth to first high-low and solidified that lap as the race of the weekend at the SoCal Nationals.

BUMPER BIKES: Into turn one, Eian Gibson sees clean air while Hayden Passanisi battles a hip sit from Wyatt Sirota.
UP: Dream Team Annalee Ramirez and Impact Ava Kanowitz dive into turn two looking for the transfer in 11-12 Mixed Open.

This is the Friday night show that every racer dreams of being a part of, but only a few climb to the win. As the fans fill the stands and the nerves begin to flutter in racers’ and supporters’ diaphragms, the Pro Championship Finals brings titles and legacies to the main stage. Before jumping into the Pro battles that etched names into the BMX stone, the top National Age Group racers took their speed to the gate in a NAG 5 Challenge for the ages. With gargantuan battles throughout the 2024 season, The NAG 5 Challenge put competitor against competitor with an added challenge of the Grands track build spicing it up. Through the early knockout rounds and into the semi-main event for the NAG 5 racers, the entrance into turn one became a hotspot for the action. Charging down the first straight and up the turnone triple, the bundle of racers banged bars and fought for elbow position, which led a few to collect the bottom of the big dirt turn. However, surviving the first turn wasn’t enough to get you in the clear, as the second straight had its own challenge. Gavin Stazetski and True Bailey found that challenge during the NAG five main event. Leaning on each other through the Answer Holeshot flags, the two found the soft stuff past the white line, ending their podium hopes but igniting the crowd in Ooos and Ahhs. While Sean Day charged away from the pack on his way to win his second NAG 5 challenge in a row, the ladies had a battle of their own, charging into the second turn with Rita Fedewa, the Junior National Champ, on the top spot and Sadie Herrera from Georgia looking to make her move with a low line in turn two. Losing grip right when she got her foot in the door, Sadie would have to wait to battle on Sunday for her National No.1.

Race Inc. ripper Derin Merten was taking up the reins in the second spot, trying to reel in the Impact ride of Fedewa. Through the two 90s and across the finish line, Lily Ashley locked in the bottom step of the podium. Derin Merten held onto the two, and Rita Fedewa stretched across the line, tumbling down the finish line runout with first place in the Women’s NAG 5 challenge, with jelly legs stopping her from immediate celebration. The three racers climb the stage as the three top NAG women racers of the year, with Ethan Popovich, Aidan Ragle, and Sean Day climbing the same stage for the Men’s side of the NAG 5 action.

THE CHALLENGE:

When the stands are filled and the lights go out, Alise Willoughby clocks in for her shift. Putting a demanding stamp on the season, Willoughby one ups herself claiming Pro Title #12 after going 1-1-2 in Tulsa.

to the legends of the pro classes, the Vet Pro racing ignited the crowd with fan favorites taking the track. After a wild third round earlier in the day, Jeff Upshaw and Barry Nobles dusted off the turn-one rodeo ride and set off towards the three-main battle. Taking off for the first of three with the Answer Holeshot on the line, Big Jeff Upshaw took the early lead with an extra check coming his way. Set up to be on the inside of the points leader two of the three mains, Upshaw capitalized in the first, but Nobles’ snap to first jump in the second took the upper hand. Overcoming the first-turn mosquito bite in turn one, the Vet Pro top dogs head into the main, and they are all tied up at three points. Victory white on the outside, 2x Defending Champ on the inside; who breaks the tie? Down the first straight and into turn one, the defending champ led the point and charged his way to the three-main tiebreaker and his third USA BMX National No.1 Vet Pro Title. With the Slamma in the middle and Jeff on

the second step, the race for third place in the Vet Pro standings went to Corey Reid after he and Justin Riddell settled the score. Joining the Factory ranks via a Supercross BMX pick-up, Reid showed them it was the right call on Friday night. It all comes down to this: the Men and Women Pro Titles are up for contention as the semi-mains dictate who gets in the final three laps of the USA BMX Pro Series. Women Pro favorite Alise Willoughby looked to be saving her energy throughout the early morning rounds and with a packed house and Title on the line, Alise showed up and showed out for the Friday night spectacular. With both Payton Ridenour and Molly Simpson joining her in the A main, the three title contenders set their eyes on the finish line after their pro roll-

out under the spotlight. We talked about it in the weeks leading up, and it showed up on Friday night. Pro Show Alise is a different breed. Going 1-1-2 through the three main events, only the Desert Destroyer, Daleny Vaughn, could overtake the soon-to-be 12x champ. With the rainbow jersey charging through the Expo, Alise landed on the top step of the day of and series podium, with Daleny Vaughn and Lauren Reynolds joining her for the three-main podium, while Molly Simpson and Daleny Vaughn stood beside ‘The Beast’ for the series overall podium.

After two returning (and dominant) Champs laid down their best, the Montana Cowboy kicked his stirrups and rode to his first National No.1 Pro Title. Traveling into Tulsa as one part of a three-way race for

the cup, Wood held his own against a stacked field, winning when it mattered most. Traveling back to track the title contenders, the Night show was absent of the Aussie hotshot, Izaac Kennedy, following a stretch at the line that dashed his title hopes. With a lot of speed and power still to be seen, the Chase ride of Kennedy is bound to come in hot in 2025. Two contenders in the night show, but only one would find the top four into the A Main.

Our Jan/Feb cover rider, Kam Larsen, finished out the regular season on top of the points lead. However, in the semi-main, his title shot got shuffled back to the B Main, still securing the second overall for 2024 Kam Larsen. Fans in the arena and at home applauded the Bakersfield local for a hard-fought season. Three mains, one premier BMX

Racing title, the Men Pro Cup eager to be hoisted. The Rookie, Drew Polk, stood as the only man to have the opportunity to snatch the time from Wood, but as the first main hit the track, Wood’s first straight-outof-gate one solidified his first Professional BMX Racing Title. Being perfect when it mattered most, the ‘Goose returned to the top in Men Pro for the first time in 28 years, as Cam Wood goes 1-1-1. Easy to spot in his TroyLee Orange, Cam Wood overthrows a dynasty and keeps the title in the USA, officially kickstarting the Cam Wood Era of USA BMX Pro Racing. Waving his support system to the stage to join the celebration, Cam Wood and his crew were ready to celebrate a dream decades in the making.

The USA BMX Grand Nationals. This week-long event brings the BMX Industry, BMX Family, and BMX Racers together under one roof to decide Titles and make memories that will last a lifetime. The past few years in Tulsa have been Grands for the ages, and while 2024 held a lot of racing throughout the summer months that may have stretched athletes’ limits, there’s no place like Tulsa in November. Heading into the weekend, the USA BMX and PULL BMX staff were ecstatic. Billy Allen, Lance Mcguire, and the whole Shovelhead crew moved mountains and sculpted a 1,215 ft race track for the ages featuring deep and technical straightaways, sandpit pro sections, and a 90/90 short shoot ready for moves to be made.

Jumping on track with 3x National No.1 AA Pro and 2016 Olympic Gold Medalist Connor Fields for the track walk preview, He pointed out some key elements that would make or break racers’ weekends. The first of which being the triple into turn one, with a 5 foot lip and stretching more than 35 feet, racers would have to find their lines while keeping a peripheral on their competition’s entrance into the turn. From eight wide down the front straight to a slim and technical second straight, finding your flow to turn two was key in almost every single title matchup. The second straight is where we could see the step up in technicality in this year’s track build, which proved to become a factor as third and fourth place fought on the bubble in the later elimination rounds. Through the Tulsa turn and staring down the split straightaways, the inside Pro straight proved more difficult than racers realized. With a big lip and small landing on the sand trap, Pros and Amateurs alike spent a good portion of their practice lap dialing in their big sends, while others focused on the fast low line through the dog leg Am straight. You could be as fast as you like on the dog leg, but if you hesitated before the step up into turn three, your lap could go from fast to chaotic real quick. Losing speed through the track is never good, especially when you’re going into two 90-degree turns that give passing options while you try to regain speed more than 250 feet away from the finish line.

As the longest day of them all kicked off the Greatest Race On Earth, racers brought their all to practice day. Dialing in the track and testing limits, the day’s highlight came from two daredevils pulling out the ultimate I’m here to party moves. Joshua Jolly and Marshall Gehrke joined forces to ignite the crowd with matching back and front flips through the Pro straight, putting a stamp on why 17-20 practice at the Grand Nationals is a mustwatch.

Practice day wrapped, racers begin to shuffle out of their campers, filling the pits with eager race legs and nervous heart rates; it’s officially race day in Tulsa. All in all, Thursday and Saturday are smooth sailing for the Grand Nationals. Thursday gets a little adrenaline injection with the Pro Classes fighting for their final score before the big one, but the Amateur side of the racing is all about getting your race legs used to the track and ready for the more heart-pounding rounds on Friday. Or

as we like to call it, Red Plate Day. The Race of Champions holds one primary purpose: to bring the State Series racers together to one location and finalize the State Series bragging rights. But it also comes as a benchmark race for fans and media to see where the year’s competitors stack up for Sunday’s battles. As the American and Canadian competitions took on Cruiser and Class, the foreign contingency took to the Open classes, giving us an idea of who to look out for when they join the Grand National motosheets.

A stand-out racer WAY out front in the 11-12 Open came from the Factory BABs crew, and his name was Wilson Garcia. Charging through the back half of the track, Garcia stretched his lead and gained valuable track experience, going on to get second place on Sunday night behind the soon-to-be National No.1 Amateur. Track experience can be helpful while you’re out front, but experience weaving through the pack can bring a whole new level, just like it did for Hayden Passanisi, landing the double on Red Plate Day and during the Grand Nationals. As race leaders slid out in turn one, The Animal paused his pedals and found clean air before starting his run of four wins in Tulsa to cap off his 2024 season. While a few big weekends started from the ROC open mains, the first of the title classes kickstarted plenty of weekends for the Girls Cruiser classes. A racer with plenty of Red Plate experience, Jemma Tollefson fed off of Mia Reyna’s Red Plate lap and took hold of the top spot for her Cruiser ROC win. Lil JT had some speed hot on her tail with Fast Cat Aven Beaty in 11-12 Girls Cruiser, and when it came time for their Friday Class racing it was all the Bakersfield local on

the top side. Tied up with a win-a-piece in their Class and Cruiser battles, the tie-breaker saw a spoiler come into the ranks with Scoops Sequoia Gomolicke. The Supercross rider coming in swinging, taking a double scoop with sprinkles home from the Greatest Race on Earth in 11-12 Girls Cruiser and 12x Girls. Now for the Girls Club battle that has been brewing since January.

The defending Girl Cruiser Champion and the former Girl Cruiser Champion ready to settle the score. Landon Burian and Lily Ashley are set to race for the 2024 Girls Cruiser Title. Both of Friday’s ROC main events went to the Rockstar/RIFT/Tangent colors of Burian, but Hyper’s pride and joy didn’t back down without a fight. Neck and neck down the first straight, an elbow bump darted Ashley off track and into Tuff Block City, but the Desoto, TX, local kept calm and found her way back to the turn, side by side with Burian. Keeping on the hard track through the turn, Landon Burian was able to pull away down the second straight and show off the skill she’s gained through the season on her way to the back-to-back, her third Girl Cruiser TItle. While she may not have hoisted the silver cup, Lily Ashley

returned strong for their 14x Girls match-up where she took over the Amateur title hot seat thanks to a powerful win from gate eight.

Ashley’s turn in the hot seat was well deserved, but it was shortlived as the 15-16x Girls class raced for a Title in Tulsa, OK. Four racers on track with a chance for the Title, but with Margie cheering from home and Greg Harrison on the mic, the 2024 Amateur Girl Title had Georgia colors written all over it as Sadie Herrera turned the corner and found the giddy up and go go. Around the track and through the short chute, the top four were all for ladies with a shot at the Title, but nobody was getting past Herrera before the finishline. Dropping to her knees in the winner’s circle, Sadie brings another Title back home to Margietown, USA.

From one winner’s circle reaction, back to the big wheels for another. Across the line, a fist full of brakes and into the arms of his Answer Family waiting at the finish line, Danny Waters shined under the Title pressure. Hearing, “With a win, and only a win,” is daunting enough, but when BA singles you out as the only one with a shot even we started to crack. We should have known the cowboy hat-wearing

tory ride was ready for it because Victorville, CA, was our favorite red lid red glove combo, Waters upgraded his Nat 2 to a Nat 1 in true champion fashion.

While most USA BMX Titles come down to a win and only a win, Grands is known for bringing chaos, which we like to see as Tulsa Magic. We saw a little bit of the magic shine through in 11x, where Trenton Paxman made a move for the RACE DAY win, capping off a massive run for the Vegas local’s 2024 season, but now it was time for that magic to get a strong signal with Wyatt Christensen snapping out of the 12x gate.

With fast racers on his inside, Wyfi got out and over to claim the lead and climb into the hot seat at the finishline runout. Now, this is where the Tulsa Magic makes its mark. 13x winner Santiago Figueroa–Not in the hunt. 14x winner Hayden Passanisi–Impressive season, but no Silver Cup. 15x winner Mica Moloney– A traveling Aussie making his name known, but no Cup. 17-20x winner Joshua Jolly–Beats the final two racers with a shot at the Amateur Title. As the Junior rainbow jersey crosses the line, the Factory FullTilt/Radio family swarms the young Washington racer and doesn’t let him out of the celebration until

he climbs the stairs to hoist the coveted Silver Cup. With his win and some Tulsa magic, Christensen joins his teammate Sadie Herrera on the 2024 page of the history books as the 2024 USA BMX National No.1 Amateur.

As the last mains snapped out of the gate, we saw dominant faces like Canada’s Pro/Am Champion Zach Frier, World Champion and double-triple winner Jason Morris, New Jerseys’ RAD Dad Greg Custer, The Greek Andy Contes, the legend Scott Felt, and Jimmy V. Jim Venvertloth claim victory, the final pen strokes say goodnight to Tulsa and to the memories made in 2024.

Good luck, and go fast in 2025.

FINISHLINE FIVE: Her smile says it all. Chrissy Piper had a blast battling at the Grand Nationals.

COMPRESSED: To avoid the sky hig send, 16x Sebastian Ordonez Lopez and Gaige Gomolicke absorb the transition onto the first straight triple.

A Factory Team Dynasty like no other, the Factory FullTilt/Radio squad climbs the national stage once again with heavy hitters under the lights and Team Manager, Jimmy B, hoisting the Silver Cup. Awaiting the season’s results on Sunday night the blue and black squad were already celebrating after the year’s Amateur Title came to the team tent via Sadie Herrera and Wyatt Christensen. Going through the season in a heated battle with the Factory SYNDYT/ LSG and Answer Factory squads, the defending Factory Team knew to trust their racers and the winning energy they bring to the track. Winning Teamsheet after Teamsheet, going FullTilt on their Radios has become imprinted into BMX ethos signifying the racer out front is a part of the most dominant Factory team in BMX history. Team manager, Jim

Buchanan, has built a squad he knows can win races but cultivating the perfect season long strategy to take the title relies on constant domination that can be found through the teams roster. With racers in each of the major classes of the sport, the FullTilt Family feeds off each other’s winning ways and makes the Team and Bike brand proud.

SCOTT ANGUS STRIKES AGAIN

The boss of the Bike Shop category returns to the main stage with Albe’s SYNDYT BOX’s first Bike Shop Title. Scott Angus had his stretch of Titles from 2010 to 2020 and now the boss man is back earning his 11th National No.1 Bike Shop Title. It’s not only the TM that makes the Title happen its the big crew of racers that rep the name on the front of the jersey just as much as their own on the back. Filling the starting hill at races throughout the season, the Albe’s parade lap became almost a morning ritual as the team headed into their race day. In Tulsa on that chilly Sunday night, it was the pink and blue powerhouse collecting big score after big score through the main events. securing, podium finishes leading into the expert classes, the 14x win by Hayden Passanisi, then 1-2 combo from

Lucas Zhou and Evan Esposito put them on the day of Teamsheet win with 365 points and a secured spot in the BMX history books. Etched in stone and printed on vinyl, Albe’s SYNDYT BOX is a National No.1 Bike Shop Team in 2024 and beyond.

FORT WAYNE BMX

BMX Racing in Fort Wayne, Indiana, is celebrating 45 years in 2025. Beginning in 1980 with a flat track around a few trees and hay bales in Foster Park, BMX then moved to Rockhill Park in 1982 where it flourished until 1992. The track was then relocated to Franke Park where it currently resides.

Times weren’t always good for Fort Wayne BMX though. In 2007 the corporation dissolved and if it wasn’t for Jackie Altizer from NW Indiana BMX and Jason Thompsen, BMX would have gone away forever. Jason then gave way to the capable leadership of John and April Entley, who oversaw the track through a complete rebuild in 2016 and grew the program to the #2 track in the state of Indiana. In 2017 John stepped down and handed the reigns to current TO, Barney Goodwin, who, along with his beloved wife Amy, have guided the program into the 45th year.

The very first thing that the Goodwin’s did when they took over the leadership of the program was to come up with a mission statement. “Fort Wayne BMX is dedicated to providing a fun, family friendly environment in which the principles of physical and mental fitness, work ethic, competitiveness and individualism will be instilled in the youth of Northeast Indiana through BMX racing”. In the words of Amy, “If it doesn’t align with our mission, we don’t do it”.

The next item on the docket was a plan to upgrade the facility, which hadn’t seen much change since the mid

90’s. The drainage was non-existent, the gate was old, slow and heavy, and the lights are on wooden poles which are inefficient and antiquated. The drainage is up to date, the gate is now a barrel gate with recessed ram and the lights are being replaced next year. Last off season, Fort Wayne Parks and Rec allowed us to clear about three-fourths of an acre that was unused woods to allow seating along the first straight. The new area gives nearly 360 degree perfect views of the track and expands the entire facility to just over five-and-ahalf acres of land.

The track itself gets a partial rebuild every year. Along the way the third turn has been moved back and asphalted (“twice because we didn’t know what we were doing”), the second turn was reshaped and asphalted and all four straights have been changed on a rotation. The major work has been done each year by USABMX master builder and all-around sweetheart, Lance Maguire. Last year, the first turn was moved back 65’ and elevated to five-and-a-half feet above the old first turn. The backside of the jump coming out of turn one is 12’ tall, which makes the second straight unbelievably fast. Consider that the starting hill is only eight-feet tall, you can see why it has picked up nicknames like, “the Matterhorn”, “Brennan’s Bane” and “start hill two” . This year’s change was adding a 60’ quad in straight two, replacing a 22’ step up. The business model is to continuously try to push the cost of the sport downward. After listening to Kyle

Oswald from Aberdeen BMX in South Dakota on the Rail The Berm podcast talking about his sign sponsor program, Fort Wayne instituted their own. Riders and parents go out and find sponsors who want to put their sign on the fence. Each $100 of sign sponsorship earns the rider free races, practices, memberships. . . The goal is to have 25% of the riders ride completely for free each year. The other cost saving idea is to offer multi race passes at discounted rates and allow parents to buy “trophy tickets” if they want to earn a trophy at each race instead of a ribbon or placard, which can be affixed to a large plaque.

In 2019, Fort Wayne BMX bought an entire fleet of DK bicycles to use as loaners and then sold them all to buy all Mongoose Title bikes. Those bikes are then sold for just over cost so they can be replaced one at a time. This allows a new rider to get a fairly new bike for way under retail and keeps the tracks repair costs down to a minimum.

Parkview Hospital graciously purchased 40 Fly Racing helmets three years ago, which are loaned out for free, and they are awarding us funds for 2025 to replace them all with new Fly helmets.

Rider development is a high priority. We have Rookie Camp on Tuesday nights, Monday night clinics, that are coached by the TO, and incentives for riders that move up in proficiency. Besides the customary intermediate and expert recognition, FWBMX expert riders’ race and practice completely free for the year after they move up. We also started a FWBMX select team for established expert riders. Select Team riders are expected to help coach on Monday nights and must adhere to a code of conduct. They also ride for free for the season while they are on the team.

2025 is going to be a big year for Fort Wayne BMX, hosting a Gold Cup Qualifier on May 18 as well as their double points Warnicke and triple points State Qualifier in July. We are also going to have 45th Anniversary events all year long, as well as our annual Carson Stoffel Memorial race in September and the Fort to Port race vs Toledo Speedway BMX in October.

If you find yourself anywhere in the Midwest next year, you need to stop by and pop a few wheelies and ramp some stuff at Fort Wayne BMX.

RACE FOR LIFE

Help raise funds for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society!

USA BMX and BMX Canada are among the top fundraisers for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Each year, riders gather donations and raise funds for this worthwhile cause. The Race For Life Series was started in 1981 to help a fellow BMXer diagnosed with leukemia.

Please visit USABMXRFL.org to get started earning these fine prizes from BOX Components and SYNDYT.

Each year, every USA BMX track holds a “Race For Life”, with all proceeds going to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
