ACCESSORIZE IT Accessories have played a huge role in dressing up.

Many marbled surfaces combined with abstract pieces were seen in the London Fashion Week to soothe the eyes. The colors used were very vivid, and it added to its vibrancy making it look preciously bold. The color blue seemed to have played a huge role, ranging from pastel to sky to royal and navy, it all featured in the stones, making it look like a commercial importance. Many gray tones added to the muted sense of the glamour for the jewelery. The neutral grains in the handbags with a colorful bold outfit added to the whole look of the outfit from footwear to bags. The designers felt the importance of keeping their collections toned down to strike a balance between the ‘directional and the accessible.’ The designers who showcased these sort of accessories are; Sion & Tiffany Phillips (Uribe), Nocturne, Natia Chkhartishvilli & Tamar Svanidze and Charlotte India Mimi (India Mimi).

THE DENIM Denim has been, and is an important item of clothing for many

decades. Denim garments came into existence during the 18th century, a time when there was abundant production of cotton. From the place of normal clothing, denim has risen to be a fashion icon and is being adorned by fashion models. It has now become a symbol of modeling and modern culture. The metamorphosis of jeans from a commodity to a fashion item happened during the 90s; when jeans evaluated into a number of various other items such as jackets, shorts, skirts etc apart from the normal pants. Earlier different models like hippie bellbottoms, and tapered legs, were popular. Current trend is all about variety and views denim as an item with bold styles to keep pace with the fast track lifestyle. On the catwalks that showcased S/S 15, we saw many belted silhouettes that created a sense of sophistication and feminine attitude.

STREAMLINE Streamline “defines a minimalist approach to design, where sophisticated, simple silhouettes create an ultra-modern appeal underscored with a relaxed, athletic attitude. Parachute nylon, mesh, and foamy textures appear in soft, muted tones, and are accentuated by transparent layers, contrast trims, and industrial zippers. Cotton shirting and organza add further interest, while subtle styling creates a refined interpretation of this slick aesthetic. Colors include: grays, skin tones, blues, and neutral tangerines, and navy. Material wise cotton shirting, chambray, lightweight denim, nylon, mesh, and sheer knits were seen to be the most common. Prints are minimal, and they include: muted animal patterns and muted stripes, and active blocking. Key items are: the cropped shirt, statement sweatshirt, wide leg denim pants, shirtdress, A-line skirts, Bermuda shorts, boy blazers, modified sweatshirts, the sporty bomber jacket ,and baggy boy shorts.

ARTISANAL THEME Artisanal theme “has a regal sensibility, as repeated geometric patterns and linear border designs create a majestic visual appeal. Rich jewel tones are infused with intricate florals, while lace, suede, and jacquard fabrics help to evoke the elaborate nature of the trend. Texture becomes one of the most important qualities, and artisanal accents like fringing and embroidery create a luxurious look.â€? The Artisanal trend reminds me of the Renaissance trend because it highlights rich fabrics and complex prints with an abundance of detail. The trend mixes inspiration from different cultures and uses bright colors mixed with neutrals. Embroidery, crafts, appliquĂŠ, embellishment, and 3-D florals are important to Artisanal. Materials include: suede, leather, jacquard, lace, and eyelet. Patterns are folk artisanal, repeated geometrics, updated flora and fauna, blanket stripes, and border designs. The key items to watch out for in S/S 15 are; the embellished boxy tops, shift dresses, the full skirt mini dresses, and the embroidered tunic tops.

THE SPORTS LUXE Even if you aren’t a gym bunny, it’s time to pretend. Sports luxe made an impact this SS15. Cut out asymmetrical lines and tailored shorts added a modern kick at David Koma. The sporty vibe stronger elsewhere – white tennis dresses were at Pringle of Scotland and waists were nipped in with judo belts at Amanda Wakeley. Sneaker-inspired streetwise looks and body-defining silhouettes with athletic details came in luxury leather, sheer panels and open-mesh technical weaves. This dynamic play on textures gave sporty silhouettes a more sophisticated and glamorous appeal. For Alexander Wang, the high-waisted slim-line pants he showed with fitted tees and racy plissé camis will be one of the defining silhouettes of spring ‘15.

TEXTURE IS KEY Texture was seen all over the catwalk this season which made collections noticeably stand out. Designers went all out and brought tiered dresses and skirts to the table, knife pleats were seen peeking out from skirts, and gowns had fairytale-inspired cascading frills rippling from them. Creative surface textures were also introduced to collections: in laser-cut leathers, in clever quilting worked into sportswear as well as exaggerated lace. The electric sheen of metallic fabrics were seen on numerous runways in especially LFW; in glitter ball disco form at Tom Ford, in space age party dresses at Markus Lupfer and the 90s/millennial era was celebrated at Richard Nicoll. We also saw patent leathers and high-shine plastics in clothes and accessory form.

SHEERNESS The sheer look gets a makeover for 2015, with designers such as Donatella Versace and Giorgio Armani adding volume and drama to simple transparency. Barbara Casasola showcased gorgeous pleated, full-length sheer skirts; Burberry featured sheer dresses; and Christopher Raeburn featured a beautiful sheer, color-blocked blouse. Teaming flimsy see-through materials with shiny paneling, Sarah Burton produced some very unique jackets. By using tulle, Marchesa presented a number of delicate asymmetrical gowns at LFW. In NFW, Hugo Boss’ corporate collection was sexed up with sheer panels. At Kors’ NFW show, sequined lining and 3d floral motifs brought out beauty of sheer middy skirts. Naeem Khan used sheer paneling as a perfect base for gowns embellishing it with floral patterns, shimmer and baroque work. Tom Ford’s see through tops looked very chic and bold. The transparent layers of organza created flowing illusions by adding structure and volume.

CRAZY 90’s CLUB House of Holland came out with a very “youthquake” trend focusing on club culture for s/s 15. Holland’s groupie girls looked very trendy in their A Line miniskirts and animal print slip dresses, accessorized by HUGE sunglasses and even bigger hair to emphasize the “club culture of 90’s” And of course designer Ashish is nothing but club culture mostly! The ‘sequin king’ smothered the club kid’s uniform of tracksuits and sweatshirts in hundreds of rainbow-coloured sparkles, with platform heels and makeup to match. It’s hard not to mention Moschino in the bizarre trend section here. At last year’s Milan fashion week, Moschino delivered a McDonnald’s themed collection and this season, their runway show was none other than a Barbie-themed dream world. Creative director, Jeremy Scott, sent lookalike Barbie dolls down the runway that looked like they’d escaped from their plastic boxes. Platinum blonde hair, bubblegum pink lipstick, puffed sleeves, miniskirts and itsy bitsy bikinis were all the about the pop culture theme. There was even a roller-skating Barbie model that rolled down the runway wearing bright pink hop pants and a crop top to add to the whole aesthetic!
