gripping storylines, this franchise is known for its twisted climax scenes.

You don’t need enemies when you have a family

THE PLOT: This is one of the most awaited films of the year. An important theme in the film is family and the importance of family ties. The movie starts with a continued story from the previous film. An unknown person has killed Ranvir Singh (Saif Ali Khan). When his brother Sikander Singh (Salman Khan) learns about this, he sets out to find his brother’s murderer and avenge his death. The story takes off from here with thrilling twists and turns till the very end, when finally the real culprit is unmasked. An entertaining musical bonanza, complete with a myriad of emotions and edge of the seat action, this promises to be a film, which you watch and whistle in the end and go back home feeling content.

bbas-Mustan are super good directors and I have always looked upto their films. They are the master of the thriller space. I am not exactly getting into their shoes as ‘Race 3’ is little different from the earlier ones but I am happy I got to direct it and I hope I make them proud. - Remo D’Souza

The Collection DID YOU KNOW? This is the first time that Salman Khan plays the role of the antagonist in a film and also the first time that Remo D’Souza and Salman Khan will be working together, as actor and director.

The first two films, “Race” and “Race 2” were directed by Abbas-Mustan and starred Anil Kapoor and Saif Ali Khan in recurring roles. The story of this third instalment is different from the earlier ones, but continues to carry the essence of the franchise. It has a completely fresh team with Salman Khan replacing Saif Ali Khan and director Remo D’Souza replacing Abbas-Mustan. Anil Kapoor returns again, making him the only actor to star in all three films.

Salman Khan, the most bankable superstar in the industry today, started his career with “Maine Pyaar Kiya” (1989), which remains one of the biggest hits of his career. This undisputed king of the domestic box office knows his audience well and has maintained his grip on the box office for over two decades. He has the most films in the 100 crore club, with eight of his films having accumulated gross earnings of over 100 crores. His star power remains unmatched and is borne out by the fact that he has played the lead role in five consecutive blockbusters. In 2011, he won the Screen Award for Best Actor for “Dabangg” and in 2012, he won the Best Actor (Popular Choice) for “Ek Tha Tiger” and “Dabangg 2”.

his movie has to be for more people than just the fans of “Jurassic Park” (of which there are a great many). The rule I followed was, “Let’s hold Jurassic Park in our hands but not too tight. – Colin Trevorrow, Director, Jurassic World

His film career began with supporting roles in mainstream films like “Wanted” (2008), “Jennifer’s Body”(2009), “Moneyball”(2011), “The Five-Year Engagement”(2012), “Zero Dark Thirty”(2013), “Delivery Man”(2013) and “Her”(2013). PVR MOVIES FIRST

THE WORLD OF JURASSIC PARK: It began as a 1990 science fiction novel written by Michael Crichton, which centered on a disastrous attempt to create a theme park of cloned dinosaurs. A sequel titled “The Lost World”, also written by Crichton was published in 1995. In 1993, Steven Spielberg adapted the book into the blockbuster film “Jurassic Park”. The sequel was also adapted by Spielberg into a film in 1997. A third film, “Jurassic Park III” was directed by Joe Johnston and released in 2001. This was the first in the series, which was not based on a novel. The fourth film directed by Colin Trevorrow was shot in 3D and released in 2015. It was the first film in a planned Jurassic World trilogy. The film releasing this month is the fifth film in the series and a sequel to the fourth one. A sixth film, tentatively titled “Jurassic World 3”, is scheduled to be released on June 11, 2021.

Trivia 01

This film is being released 25 years after “Jurassic Park” (1993). Filming took place from February to July 2017, in the United Kingdom and Hawaii.

02

Animatronics were used to depict many of the film’s dinosaurs. This film features more dinosaurs than any previous film in the series, as the director wanted to include several new dinosaurs, in addition to the fictional Indoraptor.

03

Indoraptor means, ‘Indomitable thief’. In the trailer, one of the characters is heard saying, “This is the most dangerous creature, that ever walked the Earth!”

04

About this film, the director said, “You have what you expect from a Jurassic movie. The second half moves to a different environment that feels more suspenseful, darker, claustrophobic, and even has this kind of gothic element, which I love.”

05

This is the first film in this franchise to be shot digitally and in widescreen 2.39:1, as the director wanted “to do a movie that cannot be seen on a plane” and because the film deals with a colossal population of dinosaurs in the same frame.

THE FEMALE LEADS: Bryce Dallas Howard, is an American actress, writer, director and producer, who gained international recognition as Claire Dearing in “Jurassic World” (2015), which was her most financially successful film to date. She returns in this sequel, as her earlier character, who is now a dinosaur-rights activist, who founded the Dinosaur Protection Group in order to evacuate the surviving dinosaurs from Isla Nublar. PVR MOVIES FIRST

Daniella Pineda, a Mexican-American actress, writer and comedian plays Zia Rodriguez, who is a paleo-veterinarian in the Dinosaur Protection Group. Geraldine Chaplin is a prolific actress of English, French and Spanish language films. She is the fourth child of the legendary entertainer, Charlie Chaplin. The director has not specified the extent of her role in the film, except to state that she has an important, yet understated part in the film. THE DIRECTOR: Juan Antonio García Bayona is a Spanish film director. He shot to fame with his direction of the horror film ‘The Orphanage’, which premiered in 2007 at the Cannes Film Festival, where it received a standing ovation of more than ten minutes. He then went on to prove that he could handle major visual effects and action with the disaster movie ‘The Impossible’(2012). He further strengthened his versatility with the extremely emotional film “A Monster Calls” (2016). The producers were very impressed with Bayona’s films and skilled directorial range and approached him to direct this Jurassic Park instalment. PAGE 9

21 Little-Known Things About….

Anne Hathaway PVR MOVIES FIRST

01

American actress and singer Anne Jacqueline Hathaway was born on November 12, 1982 in Brooklyn, New York.

02

She is of Irish, French, English and German ancestry. Her surname originates in England. When she was six years old, her family moved to Millburn, New Jersey, where she grew up.

03

She wished to be a nun during her childhood, being raised as a Roman Catholic with really strong values. “When I was 11, I felt like I got a calling from God to be a nun,” she said.

04

Anne studied at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts, and was the first and only teenager admitted to the acting program at the award-winning The Barrow Group in New York.

05

She made her professional screen debut in the short lived television series ‘Get Real’ (1999–2000), before landing the lead role in the Disney film ‘The Princess Diaries’ (2001), for which she won the Teen Choice Actress Award.

06

During her audition for ‘The Princess Diaries’, she accidentally fell out of her chair and was offered the role right on the spot.

07

Anne cut her hair and lost 25 pounds, eating less than 500 calories a day, to play the role of a single mother, who becomes a prostitute to support her child, in ‘Les Misérables’. She also took voice lessons and practiced crying in the mirror for a whole month.

08

She is a trained stage actress and she prefers performing on stage to film roles. Her acting style has been compared to those of Judy Garland and Audrey Hepburn.

09

She is allergic to cats and ironically played Catwoman in ‘The Dark Knight Rises’. While auditioning, she thought it was for Harley Quinn and it was only later that she realized it was for Catwoman. She calls it her most physically demanding role to date. PAGE 18

10

For her role in ‘The Devil Wears Prada’, the director asked her to gain around ten pounds. When she came on the sets, he didn’t like the way she looked and told her to lose the weight again. Finally, they used paddings instead.

11

Anne became the youngest person to host the Academy Awards at the age of 28, in 2011.

12

She is one of the thirteen actresses to win an Academy Award, BAFTA, Golden Globe and Screen Actor’s Guild Award for the same performance. She won it for her role in ‘Les Misérables’.

13

She left the church when her older brother Michael announced that he was gay. She was of the opinion that she couldn’t be part of a religion that rejected her brother’s sexual orientation.

14

She experienced real-life fear when she got caught up in a riptide, during a vacation in Oahu, Hawaii. Luckily, a surfer came to her rescue before she drowned.

15

Her favourite movies are ‘Elizabeth’(1998), ‘Stand by Me’(1986), ‘Amélie’(2001), ‘Pretty Woman’(1990) and ‘City of God’(2002). Ayn Rand’s ‘The Fountainhead’ is her favourite novel.

16

Every August 3, she gives thanks to the universe. She chose that day because it is the day ‘Princess Diaries’ was released.

17

18

Anne loves vintage clothing as she is environmentally responsible. In an interview with ABC News’ Robin Roberts, she wore a $15 dress from the flea market. She loves football and is a fan of both the New York Giants and the San Diego Chargers (her adopted West Coast team). She only recently became interested in football, after watching the 2013 Super Bowl.

19

Anne has served as a long term advocate for the Nike Foundation to raise awareness against child marriage. In July 2006, she spent a week in Nicaragua to help vaccinate children against Hepatitis A.

20

She is involved with charities like ‘The Creative Coalition’, ‘The Step Up Women’s Network’, ‘St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital’, ‘The Human Rights Campaign’ and ‘The Lollipop Theatre Network’.

If she wasn’t an actor, Anne has said that she would be interested in teaching English or becoming a psychologist.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY

MERYL STREEP Mary Louise Meryl Streep is considered to be the greatest actress living. She’s beloved for a reason: she is outspoken, thoughtful, talented and fearless. Her long list of awards include her staggering thirty Golden Globe nominations with nine wins (a record), and her twenty Academy Award nominations (the most for any woman ever) with three wins. Here are six fun facts about this incredible movie legend, who turns 69 on June 22, 2018. 1. Meryl originally planned on going to Law School. However, the morning of her interview, she accidentally slept past her alarm clock. She took it as a sign that her life was headed in a different direction. 2. She went to Yale University to study drama and supplemented her course fees by waitressing and typing. She also appeared in over a dozen stage productions a year, to the point that she became overworked and developed ulcers. 3. One of the most challenging things she has done is to learn to play the violin to get the lead role in the movie ‘The Music of the Heart’. She practiced six hours a day for eight weeks. She not only got the lead role, but beat Madonna to it. 4. On November 24, 2014, President Barack Obama awarded Meryl with the Presidential Medal of Freedom. This is the highest civilian honour one can receive. 5. She is known for her ability to command accents. She has nailed everything from Australian, British, Danish and Italian to New York Bronx. To play the title role in ‘Sophie’s Choice’, she not only mastered German and Polish accents, but also learnt Polish for the shoot. She was so convincing as Sophie that the locals thought she was actually Polish. 6. After playing Miranda Priestly in ‘The Devil Wears Prada’, she kept the iconic sunglasses that she wore on set. The shades make a re-appearance in ‘Mamma Mia’, during the ‘Money, Money, Money’ song.

Remo D’Souza

Known for his popular “ABCD: Any Body Can Dance” films, choreograher-turned-director Remo D’Souza helms his biggest movie yet— starring superstar Salman Khan. He takes us into the pulse-pounding world of “Race 3.” Three great reasons to watch “Race 3” Salman Khan alone is reason enough to watch the film. Add to that a gripping story, filled with twists and turns. And then there is the amazing action. How is it different from the previous two “Race” movies? It has a totally different flavour: the main thought both Salman and I had was to make it a fun, family-friendly entertainer which people of all ages can watch. Tell us about the action sequences I wondered how to up the game from the prequels; plus Salman has already done some daring stunts in his movies. So we roped in Tom Struthers, action director of “The Dark Knight” and “Inception.” Indian action director Anil Arasu and I choreographed the handfights. Nothing PVR MOVIES FIRST

you see in this film is on VFX— all the action is 100% real, down to the cliff jumps and the cars that were blown up. Salman Khan’s role in the film I cannot disclose the role, but Salman fans are guaranteed to have a great time. Plus we are releasing the film in 3D, so you get to see him in 3D for the first time! Bobby Deol will be seen in a new avatar Yes, he plays a key character, and takes off his shirt for the first time in a film—thanks to Salman Khan who urged him to do it! Shooting locations We have covered the whole range, from jungles to deserts to valleys. The movie transports you from Bangkok to Abu Dhabi, with Ladakh and Kashmir in between. HISTORY Think colossal entertainment and this eye-popping, mind-bending and super thrilling film comes to mind. Spielberg ushered in a new franchise with this epic adventure, which set fire to the box office. He cloned classic strains from the highest lineage of monsteraction movies, spliced them with the most realistic genes of family entertainment and unleashed them through the most powerful forces of technological aesthetics to create a truly colossal movie experience. It grossed over 914 million dollars worldwide in its original theatrical run, becoming the highest grossing film ever at the time. It won all three Academy Awards for which it was nominated, BAFTA for Best Special Effects and Public’s Favourite Film and the People’s Choice Award for Favourite All-Around Motion Picture. PLOT: The film is set on the fictional island of Isla Nublar, located near Costa Rica, where billionaire philanthropist John Hammond and a small team of genetic scientists have created a wildlife park of cloned dinosaurs. Paleontologists Grant and Ellie and mathematician Malcolm are among a select group chosen to tour the theme park. The joyride soon becomes a horrifying experience, when a power breakdown afflicts the park and the ferocious predators break free and go on the hunt. WOW FACTOR: Spielberg has wondrously implanted the highest strains of science fiction within the supple body of a very human story. It is superbly orchestrated by him as he masterfully works the emotional throttle. Screenwriters Crichton and David Koepp, expertly distill and present the story’s complex scientific ideas in palatable and understandable form, while delicately lacing it with frightening suspense. The brightest stars in this creative constellation are the technicians Stan Winston, Phil Tippett, Dennis Muren

This Month 25 Years Ago and Michael Lantieri, who have raised the craft of special effects to an art form. They have used a combination of live-action models, puppets, hydraulics and dazzling computer-generated imagery to create the illusion that the dinosaurs are up and breathing, honking, hunting and stampeding. Similarly, composer John Williams’ titanic score with its peals of trumpetry and cinematographer Dean Cundey’s mesmeric lensing are terrifically gripping. The well-selected cast is winningly endearing. Attenborough is terrific as the exuberant but overreaching entrepreneur, while Goldblum is deliciously vainglorious as the devil’s advocate. Neill, Dern and the kids win our affections and epitomize the positive spirit of the human mind in times of adversity. TRIVIA: Universal paid Michael Crichton two million dollars for the rights to his novel, before it was even published. The glass of water sitting on the dashboard of the Ford Explorer, was made to ripple by using a guitar string that was attached to the underside of the dashboard, beneath the glass. In the scene where the T-Rex comes through the glass roof of the Ford Explorer in the first attack, the glass was not meant to break. It broke and produced genuine screams from the children. The Tyrannosaurus’ roars were a combination of dog, penguin, tiger, alligator and elephant sounds. The Triceratops dung didn’t smell at all as it was made of clay, mud and straw. It was drizzled with honey and papayas, so that flies would swarm over it. Several of the storm scenes in the film were actual footage of Hurricane Iniki, which struck during location shoots in Kauai, Hawaii. This is the first film to use DTS (digital surround sound), which Spielberg created especially for the movie. Principal photography on the film finished twelve days ahead of schedule and on budget. In 2005, paleontologist Dr. Mary Schweitzer discovered red blood cells and soft tissue in the fossilized bones of a T-Rex, indicating that dinosaur cloning may someday become a reality. Spielberg made 250 million dollars from this film, which is the largest sum any individual has made from a film.
