Learning
Pymble’s Upper School provides each girl in Years 9 and 10 with tailored and challenging learning experiences while nurturing their abilities and interests in a caring and supportive community.
Through our comprehensive academic, Co-curricular and Mind-Body-Spirit programs, we support each girl to develop her intellectual, emotional, social, physical and spiritual growth during these formative years.
Our Upper School students join in learning activities focusing on the College values: developing and fostering meaningful relationships; recognition and affirmation; self as a leader; self as a learner; and developing positive self-awareness.
Programs are delivered by College staff and by leaders in the field. Our external speakers – many of them inspirational former Pymble students – regularly attend, connecting the girls to key issues influencing society locally and internationally.
In Year 9, all girls study the core subjects of English, Mathematics, Science, Geography, Religious Studies, PDHPE (Personal Development, Health and Physical Education) and History.
Year 9 girls may continue with one or both of their elective subjects chosen in Year 8, or they may choose new electives from the following: Food Technology, Textiles Technology, Drama, Agricultural Technology, Commerce, Physical Activity Sport Studies (PASS), Classical Languages, Modern Languages, Music and Visual Arts.
In Year 10, students are given the opportunity to choose from a range of electives, including: PASS, Aboriginal Studies, Dance, and Marine and Aquaculture Technology.
LEARNING SUPPORT AND GIFTED AND TALENTED
Our Student Support Services team is dedicated to ensuring that the learning environment at Pymble is fully inclusive and that every girl can access what she needs from a broad range of learning experiences.
Our targeted programs ensure that students with a learning or English language difficulty can participate in the education and choices provided by the College on the same basis as all students.
Pymble’s targeted English as an Additional Language or Dialect (EAL/D) programs for students from Kindergarten to Year 12 will help girls develop and consolidate their reading, writing, listening and speaking skills.
Meanwhile our Literacy and Learning program underpins core programs to provide additional support for girls with identified learning needs.
Gifted and talented students at Pymble also have the opportunity to extend their learning and to embrace academic excellence, through various academic opportunities, competitions, excursions and other programs.
