Daily Tselot Morning

Page 1

Upon rising from bed in the morning and before commencing any task; all ክርስቲያንም [Kristeeyanim/Christians] must glorify እግዚአብሔር [Igziabher/God] for His kindness in bringing them from night (darkness) to day (light). Adam, the father of all was created in the morning; at this hour Gêta Kristos/Our Lord Christ was brought to Pilate for questioning.

We implore our Mother’s help always, everywhere, and for everything. We pray to her to be enlightened in our doubts, to be put back on the right path when we go astray, to be protected when we are tempted, to be strengthened when we are weakening, to be lifted up when we fall into sin, to be encouraged when we are losing heart, to be rid of our scruples, to be consoled in the trials, crosses and disappointments of life. Finally, in all our afflictions of body and soul, we naturally turn to Qidist Dingil Mariyam for help, with never a fear of importuning her or displeasing Our እግዚአብሔር/Igziabher/Lord.

Prayer upon rising from a Monastic Father

O ጌታ/Gêta/Lord, grant that I may greet the coming day in peace. Help me to rely upon Thy Holy will at every moment. In every hour of the day, reveal Thy will to me. Bless my association with all who surround me. Teach me to treat whatever may happen with peace of soul and with firm conviction that Thy will governs all. In all my deeds and words, guide my thoughts and feelings. In unforeseen events, let me not forget to lean on Thy power. Teach me to act firmly and wisely without embittering and embarrassing others. Give me strength to bear the fatigue of the coming day with all that it shall bring. Direct my will. Teach me to pray. Pray Thy self in me. Amen.

Psalm 150 1

ሃሌ ሉያ። /HaLay LuYah! [Praise ye እግዚአብሔር/Igziabher/the LORD!] Praise እግዚአብሔር/Igziabher/God in His sanctuary; praise Him in the firmament of His power! 2 Praise Him for His mighty acts; praise Him according to His excellent greatness! 3 Praise Him with the sound of the trumpet; praise Him with the psaltery and harp! 4 Praise Him with the timbrel and dance; praise Him with stringed instruments and organs! 5 Praise Him upon the loud cymbals; praise Him upon the high sounding cymbals! 6 Let everything that hath breath praise እግዚአብሔር/Igziabher/the Lord! ሃሌ ሉያ። HaLay LuYah!/Praise the LORD!

Psalm 5 1

Prayer for Protection from the Wicked.

Give ear to my words, O አቤቱ/Abêtu/LORD, Consider my groaning. 2 Heed the sound of my cry for help, my King and my አምላኬ Amlake/God, For to Thee I pray. 3 In the morning, O አቤቱ/Abêtu/LORD, Thou will hear my voice; In the morning I will order my prayer to Thee and eagerly watch. 4 For Thou are not a አምላክ/Amlak/God who takes pleasure in wickedness; No evil dwells with Thee. 5 The boastful shall not stand before Thy eyes; Thou hate all who do iniquity. 6 Thou destroy those who speak falsehood; እግዚአብሔር/Igziabher the LORD abhors the man of bloodshed and deceit. 7 But as for me, by Your abundant loving kindness I will enter Thy house, At Your holy temple I will bow in reverence for Thee. 8 O አቤቱ/Abêtu/LORD, lead me in Your righteousness because of my foes; make Thy way straight before me. 9 There is nothing reliable in what they say; their inward part is destruction itself. Their throat is an open grave; they flatter with their tongue. 10 Hold them guilty, O አቤቱ/Abêtu/God; by their own devices let them fall! In the multitude of their transgressions thrust them out, for they are rebellious against Thee. 11 But let all who take refuge in Thee be glad, Let them ever sing for joy; and may Thou shelter them, that those who love Thy name may exult in Thee. 12 For it is Thee who blesses the righteous man, O Abêtu/LORD, Thou surround him with favor as with a shield.

Psalm 133

Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for ወንድሞች/wändmoch [brethren] to dwell together in unity! 2 It is like the precious ointment upon the head that ran down upon the beard, even Aaron's beard that went down to the skirts of his garments. 3 It is as the dew of Hermon, and as the dew that descended upon the mountains of ጽዮን/Tsiyon/Zion; for there Igziabher/እግዚአብሔር /the Lord commanded the blessing, even life for evermore.

Psalm 63

1

A psalm of David. When he was in the Desert of Judah.

O, አምላኬ/Amlakê/God, አምላኬ/Amlakê/ my God, early will I seek Thee; I thirst for Thee, my whole being longs for Thee, in a dry and parched land where there is no water. 2 I have seen Thee in the sanctuary and beheld Thy power and glory. 3 Because Thy love is better than life, my lips will glorify Thee. 4 I will praise Thee as long as I live, and in Thy name I will lift up my hands. 5 My ነፍስ/näfs/soul is fully satisfied as with the richest of foods; with singing lips my mouth will praise 6 Thee. On my bed I remember Thee; I think of Thee through the watches of the night. 7 Because Thou are my help, I sing in the shadow of Thy wings. 8 My ነፍስ/näfs/soul clings to Thee; Thy right hand upholds me. 9 Those who want to kill me will be destroyed; they will go down to the depths of the earth. 10 They will be given over to the sword and become food for jackals. 11 But ንጉሥ/Negus/the king will rejoice in እግዚአብሔር Igziabher [God]; all who swear by እግዚአብሔር/Igziabher [God] will glory in Him, while the mouths of liars will be silenced.

Psalm 119:33-40 ‫ ה‬He ሄ 33

Teach me, አ ቤ ቱ /O Abêtu/LORD, the way of Thy statutes/decrees, that I may follow it to the end for its reward. ጃ 34 Give me understanding, so that I may keep Thy law and observe and obey it with all my heart. ጃ 35 Lead and direct me in the path of Thy commands, for I delight in it. ጃ 36 Turn my heart to Thy statutes and decrees and not to selfish gain. ጃ 37 Turn my eyes away from vanities and worthless things; give me life in Thy ways. ጃ 38 Fulfill and confirm to Thy servant Thy promise, which is for those who fear Thee. ጃ 39 Take away the disgrace I dread, for Thy laws and ordinances are good. ጃ 40 How I long for Thy precepts! In your righteousness give me life. ጃ

Vau.— Speak these eight verses, 41 to 48, properly over water, and give it to your servant or dependent to drink, and then your rule and power over him will become easy and agreeable, and he will serve you willingly.

Psalm 119:41-48

‫[ ו‬ዋው/WAW ] 41

Let your steadfast love come to me, አቤቱ፥ [Abêtu/O LORD], Thy salvation according to your promise. 42 Then I shall have an answer for those who taunt me, for I trust in Thy word. 43 Do not take the word of truth utterly out of my mouth, for my hope is in Thy ordinances. 44 I will keep Thy law continually, forever and ever. 45 I shall walk at liberty, for I have sought Thy precepts. 46 I will also speak of your decrees before kings, and shall not be put to shame; 47 I find my delight in Thy commandments, because I love them. 48 I revere your commandments, which I love, and I will meditate on Thy statutes.

Psalm 129

A song of ascents.

“They have greatly oppressed me from my youth,” let Israel say; 2 “they have greatly oppressed me from my youth, but they have not gained the victory over me. 3 Plowmen have plowed my back and made their furrows long. 4 But እግዚአብሔር ጻድቅ ነው/Igziabher tsadiq new/the LORD is righteous; He has cut me free from the cords of the wicked.” 5 May all who hate Zion be turned back in shame. 6 May they be like grass on the roof, which withers before it can grow; 7 a reaper cannot fill his hands with it, nor one who gathers fill his arms. 8 May those who pass by not say to them, “The blessing of እ ግ ዚ አ ብሔር /Igziabher [the LORD] be on you; we bless you in the name of እ ግ ዚ አ ብሔር /Igziabher/the LORD.” 1

Psalm 119v73 to 80 ‫ י‬Yodh ዮድ 73

Thy hands made me and formed me; give me understanding to learn Thy commands. 74 May those who fear you rejoice when they see me, for I have put my hope in Thy word. 75 I know, አ ቤ ቱ /O Abêtu/LORD, that Thy laws are righteous, and that in faithfulness Thou have afflicted/humbled me. 76 May your unfailing love be my comfort, according to Thy promise to Thy servant. 77 Let Thy compassion come to me that I may live, for Thy law is my delight. 78 May the arrogant be put to shame for wronging me without cause; as for me, I will meditate on Thy precepts. 79 May those who fear Thee turn to me, so that they may know and understand Thy statutes/decrees. 80 May I wholeheartedly follow Thy decrees, that I may not be put to shame.

Psalm 135 1

ሃሌ ሉያ።/Halê LuYa/ Praise the LORD. የእግዚአብሔርን ስም አመስግኑ፤ /YeIgziabherin Simi Amesiginu/Praise the name of the LORD; praise Him, you servants of እግዚአብሔር Igziabher/the LORD, 2 Thou who minister in the house of እግዚአብሔር/Igziabher [the LORD], in the courts of the house of our አምላካ/Amlak/God. 3 Praise እግዚአብሔር/Igziabher/the LORD, for እግዚአብሔር Igziabher/the LORD is good; sing praise to His name, for that is pleasant. 4 For እግዚአብሔር/Igziabher/the LORD has chosen Jacob to be his own, Israel to be his treasured possession. 5 I know that እግዚአብሔር/Igziabher/the LORD is great, that ጌታ/Geta/our Lord is greater than all gods. 6 እግዚአብሔር/Igziabher/The LORD does whatever pleases Him, in the heavens and on the earth, in the seas and all their depths. 7 He makes clouds rise from the ends of the earth; he sends lightning with the rain and brings out the wind from his storehouses. 8 He struck down the firstborn of Egypt, the firstborn of people and animals. 9 He sent his signs and wonders into your midst, Egypt, against Pharaoh and all his servants. 10 He struck down many nations & killed mighty kings

11

Sihon king of the Amorites, Og king of Bashan, and all the kings of Canaan— 12 and He gave their land as an inheritance, an inheritance to His people Israel. 13 Thy name, O አ ቤ ቱ /Abêtu/LORD, endures forever, Thy renown, O አ ቤ ቱ /Abêtu/LORD, through all generations. 14 For እግዚአብሔር/Igziabher/the LORD will vindicate His people and have compassion on His servants. 15 The idols of the nations are silver and gold, made by human hands. 16 They have mouths, but cannot speak, eyes, but cannot see. 17 They have ears, but cannot hear; there is no breath in their mouths. 18 Those who make them will be like them and so will all who trust in them. 19 All you Israelites, praise እግዚአብሔር/Igziabher the LORD; house of Aaron, praise እግዚአብሔር Igziabher/the LORD; 20 house of Levi, praise እግዚአብሔር/Igziabher/the LORD; you who fear እግዚአብሔር/Igziabher/the LORD, praise እግዚአብሔር/Igziabher/the LORD. 21 Praise be to እግዚአብሔር/Igziabher/the LORD from Zion, to Him who dwells in Jerusalem. ሃ ሌ ሉ ያ ። [Halê LuYa/Praise እግዚአብሔር/Igziabher/the LORD].
