THE INITIATION


A Women with A Dream Mary Kay Ash started sold books door- to-door when her husband was at World War II. After his return they divorced. Ash went to work for Stanley Home Products. Frustrated when passed over for a promotion in favor of a man that she had trained, Ash retired in 1963 and intended to write a book to help women survive in the male-dominated business world. The book turned into a business plan for her ideal company. Ash started Mary Kay Cosmetics at 1963. It was a first – a company dedicated to making life more beautiful for women. Mary Kay is a global direct sales company for cosmetics and skin care. It empowers women to follow their dreams and enrich their lives; it helps women to achieve personal and financial success. In 1963, against the odds, Mary Kay Ash made the impossible become possible. In that generation it was a first female revolution. It helps house wives to transform their lives, follow their dream, and in doing so, help other women achieve success.



1963 Beauty by Mary Kay opens on Friday, Sept. 13, in a 500-square-foot storefront in Dallas, Texas.

1971 Mary Kay expands by opening its first international subsidiary in Australia.

1979 One of the original nine Mary Kay Independent Beauty Consultants surpasses the $1 million mark in lifetime commissions for the first time in company history.

1984 Mary Kay Inc. is featured in the first edition of Fortune magazine’s “The 100 Best Companies to Work for in America”.
