WEEK 9 READING: TITLE OF READING

Question 1: What are Durer’s rules for perspectival projection? (Maximum 100 words) There are three rules. First, all perpendiculars or “orthogonals” meet at the so-called central vanishing point, which is determined by the perpendicular drawn from the eye to the picture plane. Since perspectiva means ‘seeing through’. Second, all parallels, in whatever direction they lie, have a common vanishing point. Finally, equal dimensions diminish progressively as they recede in space, so that any portion of the picture assuming that the location ofthe eye is known - is calculable from the preceding or following portion.

Question 2: Describe homogeneous space? (Maximum 100 words) A homogeneous space is an infinite and unchanging space. All elements are mere determinations of position, their sequences depend on on another, possessing no dependence oustside of the image. This space is viewed from a single and immonile eye.

QUAD PERSPECTIVE 1 + 2 Perspective1. There are 5 quads can be seen in this view and the light comes from left side. Most objects in this view are in the light, showing the lively image and indicating the happiness.

Perspective 2. This view is a bit narrow and most objects are in the shadow. It will help to create a messy and crowded atmosphere. It shows the underside of the city.

PERSPECTIVE SCENE 1 + 2

Perspective1:happiness. In the view 1, Zemrude is a city of happiness and brightness. Peoples are either looking into the distance or looking up. They enjoy the romantic love, pleasant weather, a natural bright and beautiful scene. They have time to hear birds singing and appreciating the smell of flowers.

Perspective2:hardships. The beautiful image is not the most realistic aspect of life. There are still many people who suffer from everyday life. Being busy making a living, supporting a family or losting a loved one can be the reason for lowering their heads. Although all the people walk down cobblestone streets, people in a hard life can just see the fish bones, wastepaper and manhole covers.

WEEK 4 READING: TITLE OF READING Complete your reading before attempting these questions:

Question 1: What is the difference between autographic and allographic practice? (Maximum 100 words)

Autographic practice is a direct and independent product of the author, like paintings and sculptures. It depends for authenticity upon the direct contact of the auther. Allographic arts operate through interpretation and on the basis of convention, like music, poetry or theater. Functionally, allographic arts depend upon notational practices.

Question 2: Why do architects need new representational techniques? (Maximum 100 words) Architectures is neither clearly allographic or autographic. Technologies developed and architecture is to work beyond the level of image, it needs to address the social and political implications of the shift from artifact effect. The city today is a place where information, capital and subjects interact incomplex formations. While traditional representations presume stable objects and fixed subjects, new representational techniques and the ability of adapting quickly is necessary.

The Zemrude is a city that its appearance depends on the way you see it. Follow the symbol of movement, you can have a overall look at the city, from the bright view to the dark view. You can see a gentleman playing music to please his sweetheart and enjoy the see-view through the window. After terning left, there is a footpath to the garden. You can stop and stand there to smell the flowers. Then you will go into the real life of ordinary people. The little girl have to carry the water pot to get fresh water far away from home, the old lady works as servant and a young woman with a toddler just lost her husband, the cornerstone. You cannot move your eyes from her back which is thin and weak. Meanwhile, carefree people are enjoying their life in the sun , in the park and in a good mood. The first and second perspectives are views from same point but towards the different directions. People in two perspectives are in distinct mood, even in the second perspective you can see part of the happy people, which emphasizes the contrast. Different life backgrounds and moods can lead to two views of life. When you raise your head, you can see warm light, flapping curtains and hear whistle and birds call. When you keep looking down, you can just see the shadows, wastepapers and food debris.
