Classes are designed to train parents to create supportive and positive learning environments for their children that will stimulate their physical, intellectual, social and emotional growth. Earn a Career Path Diploma by taking a prescribed number of professional courses directed to specific careers. The Career Path Diploma Program is designed to verify to business and industry that you have the skills required for entry-level positions. ABC Adult Education Program is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges. The Career Technical Department is also in candidacy with COE, the Council on Occupational Education, and exclusively employs State of California certificated teachers.
The order of the classes is the suggested sequence. Some classes may be taken concurrently. When the Career Path core classes are completed, additional classes may be added if time permits. To qualify for a certificate, students must get a passing grade of 70% or better and attend class according to the course syllabus (at least 80% of the scheduled time). Not all classes are offered each nine-week session. Most Career Paths can be completed in 12 months or less by most full-time students. Certain certificates over 6 months old may require a basic test to ensure skills are current prior to issuance of Career Technical Diploma (Keyboarding and Data Entry). Students without a high school diploma or a GED will receive a Certificate of Proficiency in lieu of the Career Path Diploma. Students must meet all the general admission requirements for ABC Adult School as stated on our website. Students must meet the requirement of keyboarding at 40 words per minute before graduation. Students must meet certain individual requirements set forth for each program. These requirements may be found on our website in the Program of Study Data Sheet.

GED Preparation Before signing up for the official GED Exam, most adults find it helpful to enroll in a preparation program. Students are pretested in reading comprehension, math, and writing skills, and then assigned a course of study to remediate any weaknesses. The Learning Center has a variety of options for preparation: textbook-based coursework, multimedia DVDs, and interactive computer applications. Credentialed teachers and instructional aides are available at all times to assist as needed on an individual basis. GED Preparation students work at their own pace and attend as their schedules permit. Official practice tests are available online at www.GED.com. The GED Testing program has been used for over 65 years to measure and evaluate the knowledge and skills necessary to pursue higher education, obtain specific jobs, gain promotions, and achieve personal goals. A GED credential is considered the equivalent of a high school diploma and is recognized throughout the United States, Canada, and Mexico. It is offered in both English and Spanish. Students with special needs can apply for accommodations in advance. The General Educational Development exam is a national test designed to measure the skills and concepts usually learned during four years of high school. Most employers (95%) consider it the equivalent of a high school diploma. Community colleges accept this in lieu of a diploma. The GED test is comprised of four separate tests: Reasoning through Language Arts, Mathematical Reasoning, Social Studies, and Science. To pass, you must receive a score of at least 150 on each test module and a total score of 600 across the four test modules. The GED test is a computer based test. ABC Adult School is an official testing site. Registration for the GED Test is done online only. Go to www.GED.com or call GED Testing Center-Pearson VUE 1-877-392-6433 to register for the test. The test fee will be $140. The fee to retake previously failed test is $35. Examinees must be at least 18 years of age. A valid government issued photo ID is required.
H igh school diploma students can complete most of their course work at home, using Internet-based online classes. GED preparation students can review math via online courses.
