Veronica Medina It is our privilege to recognize Veronica Medina in this edition of the Colton Connection. Veronica, or better said, “Ms. Veronica has been a Teacher for the Children and Families Division and employee of the City of Colton for almost four years. Ms. Veronica primarily works at our Paul J. Rogers (PJR) Child Development Center and she is the Lead Teacher in the classroom for our PJR State Preschool Program. During the summer months, she works in our Administrative Office and is a tremendous help to our team. Ms. Veronica is a true professional. She is an engaging, thought-provoking, creative, and inspiring educator. She is dedicated to her craft, children, colleagues, and families. Whenever possible, she attends trainings, seminars, and conferences to increase her knowledge and expand her professional development. She has been happily married for 17 years and has three children. She decided to have a career in Child Development to help her own and other children succeed; she loves reading and learning new teaching methods. She has been working with children for 7+ years and comes from a teaching family. Her dad used to say, "Always ask your teachers if you have any questions, they are there to help you." She believes we are the children's voice.

Due to the mandated minimum wage increase and the corresponding increase in cost of goods, select fees have been increased and approved by City Council on 5/2/2017. We will continue to analyze and adjust fees to ensure we are continuing to provide an excellent level of service to the community.

Colton Parks & Recreation Foundation Mission Statement

The purpose of the Foundation is to aid, sponsor, promote, advance, and develop park and recreation opportunities for all citizens of Colton.

FUNDRAISING PROGRAMS RECREATION SCHOLARSHIPS

GOLDEN YEARS PROGRAM

This is the original Parks & Recreation Foundation program. The Program funds scholarships to income-eligible Colton families for children to attend City-sponsored programs that they otherwise might not be able to afford.

The Golden Years Program utilizes funding to promote programs, facilities, and services for Colton’s senior citizen population. Health services, nutrition programs, group classes, and special events are examples of programs geared toward our “more experienced” residents.

The Recreation Scholarship Program has awarded over $70,000 in scholarships to hundreds of children since 2003. Scholarships are available to Colton Residents for youth CSD programs. Proof of residency and income verification required. Applications are available at the Gonzales Community Center.

Other programs include: • PARK ENRICHMENT • YOUTH EMPOWERMENT • FRIENDS-IN-NEED PROGRAM

HISTORIC COLTON PROGRAM

The Historic Colton Program makes funds available to support City programs which celebrate Colton’s rich history, dating to 1887. Current programs include the annual City Birthday Celebration and the Colton Sports Hall of Fame.

All Funding collected by the Foundation directly benefits the Colton community. You may contribute to the Foundation as a whole, or designate a specific program that you wish your donation to benefit.
