The school works in close association with the State of California Employment Development Department (EDD). Special support is provided for clients referred from the State Department of Rehabilitation and the County Department of Public Social Services.

(HLPAE) is a comprehensive school, serving more than 20,000 adult and high school students annually. The Adult School is a pre and post-secondary institution offering entry-level and advanced courses in technology, health, business, trades and service careers. We also offer English as a second language, basic academic skills, preparation for GED, high school diploma, parent education and citizenship. Hacienda La Puente Adult Education is in candidacy status for accreditation by the Council on Occupational Education (COE) for post secondary training and to provide Title IV Financial Aid to qualified students and is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) for secondary academic programs. HLPAE also receives other State and National accreditations for individual programs. We are a stateapproved General Educational Development (GED) testing center. HLPAE is a State-Approved GED® Test Center and is an approved Pearson VUE computerized testing center.
Eligibility of Candidates to Take the GED® Tests: e 18 years of age or older, or within 60 days of his/her 18th B birthday (regardless of school enrollment status); B e a resident of the state; O nly persons who do not hold a standard high school diploma are eligible to take the GED® Tests; H ave current valid identification card which includes the examinee's name, date of birth, photograph, address and signature. Acceptable identification includes: A. Driver's license or identification card issued by the DMV. B. Identification card issued by the military. C. I.D. card or Passport issued by U.S. or foreign governments. If CA address not on ID, then need proof of CA address (utility bill, paycheck stub, etc.) D. Identification card issued by post-secondary schools. ®

Close-out GED® 2002 Series: The current version of the GED® Test is expiring by the end of 2013. When the 2002 Series GED® Test expires, any incomplete scores will expire too. Test-takers who pass some but not all of the 2002 Series GED® Test will have to start over. Refunds: Test and registration fees (including additional fees) cannot be refunded, even if you cancel your test scores or are absent on test day.

Test Preparation/GED® is a course designed to assist students in acquiring the skills necessary to pass all five sections of the General Educational Development (GED®) Test.

Caregiver Certification Course This class is a required prerequisite for consideration for the August 13, 2013 CNA course.
Mandatory Orientation August 13, October 14, OR December 16 at 12 pm at Willow in the Portables. Caregiver Certification Course, designed for in-home and assisted living caregivers, includes training in ethics, client’s rights, and elder abuse as well as training in emergency first aid, personal care and assistance with daily living tasks like mobility, bathing, and toileting. Throughout the course students are taught to respect the individual’s rights to privacy and dignity and provide care in such a way that the person’s independence is enhanced and supported rather than removed. How to become a Licensed Vocational Nurse or Psychiatric Technician: Step 1: Come to the Willow Administration Building at 14101 E. Nelson Avenue. Pay $40 for the LVN/PT Assessment Test. Tests require preregistration and are given on scheduled Thursdays, from 8:45 am - 2:30 pm in the Assessment Center. Step 2: Applicants attain an appropriate score at a minimum level of proficiency (12th grade or higher for LVN) to be Considered for Pre-LVN course. COMPUTER Repair & Networking Mandatory Orientation: August 5, 2013 from 9 am to 12 pm in Room 107. The course is divided into components in which a student may earn a certificate of completion. Approximately 700 hours to complete.
Computer Repair Component The Computer Repair component provides an introduction that includes: reading and creating specifications for major components; searching major pans through on-line research of the computer system; identifying major replaceable hardware and troubleshooting motherboards, disk drives and monitors. Laser printers, multimedia, CD-ROMs, and wireless components are also covered. Students will be involved in troubleshooting and repairing and will learn to build their own computer as a part of the curriculum. Students will be prepared for A Plus (A+) certification by the end of the course.
Network Component The Networking Component includes: instructorled hands-on training to familiarize students with the topics of the Network+ certification examination, and will help students prepare for the Network+ test. This component also includes: OSI Layer Concept, TCPfIP, "topologies" physical and network hardware, various network structures, the major network operating systems, Microsoft Windows Server Systems. Students will handle and install a simple network system which includes: preparing Cat5/Cat6 cables, routing cable, TCP/IP configuration; creating user lists, identifying full and half-duplexing, WAN and LAN, server, workstation, and host server-based networking and troubleshooting networking. Workforce Resource Center Job Seeker Services The Resource Center is intended for current students and the general public who need a place to study and/or to conduct job searches. The resource center contains computers with internet access to job websites and other employment resources such as resume preparation, and telephone and fax accessibility - to employers only. Services Offered to the Public To give students maximum training opportunities, Hacienda La Puente Career & Technical Education Programs offer a wide range of services to the public. Computer Repair & Networking offers computer repair services and home network set up advice are free to members of the community. Child Development Mentor Training - Students from the Program & Principles program volunteer hours in classrooms across our district, Rowland District Options, and private centers. Major Appliance Service & Repair offers service and maintenance repairs at little to no cost. Please contact (626) 934-2936. The Automotive Technician program offers auto repair services to the community. Services such as oil change, brake inspections, and other diagnostics. Contact (626) 934-2932. Optical Technician Services - The center offers students, faculty, staff and families the opportunity to have an eye exam, purchase eye and sunglasses at substantial savings. We are also open to the public on a limited basis for outside prescriptions. For appointments and information call (626) 9342940. All work done by students. Cosmetology Services - All work done by students only. Low cost services. Children under 15 must be supervised. Client and child cannot receive service at the same time. No children under 5.
