New Community Center Update A lot has happened with this project since ground was broken on July 19, 2010 - approximately 14 months ago. During this time we have provided consistent project updates. During the past two issues we have showcased a chronological photo gallery of the construction of the new center. In the spring 2011 issue, we provided photos of the project covering the months of August 2010 through January 2011. Subsequently, in the summer 2011 issue, we provided photos of the project which covered the months of March 2011 through May 2011. As the project moves closer and closer to completion, the photos are getting more and more exciting. In this issue, we are proud to provide photos from July and August as the project has now been under construction for over a year.

July - Street Closure - Public Notice
Although a considerable amount of work is still being done on the exterior of the center, much of the construction has shifted to the inside of the building as the 4,000 square foot multi-purpose room, spacious aerobics room, two classrooms, 18 station computer lab, fitness room and kitchen move closer and closer towards completion. At the time of this writing, the street work on 147th Street between Hawthorne Boulevard and Burin Avenue has begun, making way for the city’s eventual Civic Center linking City Hall, the Los Angeles County Lawndale Library and the new Community Center. In the meantime, stay tuned for a Grand Opening Celebration this winter.
