Education and training in the maintenance, troubleshooting and repair of Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) systems in your home and as foundational training and certification for pre-employment students seeking a career in the HVAC trades. This course is also suitable for those newly employed who desire to increase their knowledge of troubleshooting HVAC equipment. The training will provide familiarization and pre-employment skills in theory, concepts and hands-on application of information necessary to maintain, troubleshoot and repair HVAC equipment. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) certification will be included for all students, which is required to purchase and safely handle refrigerants. The EPA Universal Card is especially desirable for individuals pursuing a career in the HVAC trades now or in the future. The EPA Card is a life-time certification. This is the first in a sequence of three courses in an introductory training for electrician. The course provides technical instruction and practical application in electrical concepts and use of equipment. Other subject areas include: storage batteries in direct current (DC) circuits, Ohm’s Law, alternating current (AC), and resource management.

ELECTRICIAN LEVEL 2: WIRING & CODES

This second course provides students with technical instruction and practical experience in electrical wiring and codes. It focuses on safety, permit requirements and code compliance, wiring design and protection, wiring materials and methods, equipment for general use, special occupancies, special equipment, special conditions, communication systems sanctioned by the National Electrical Code (NEC), and the interpretation of data found in the NEC tables. CWT evening classes are designed for the working students who cannot attend day courses but want to learn or improve and certify their welding processes. This is a “learn at your own pace” welding course that allows students time to fully understand and hone their welding skills. We take students at any skill level of welding and help them perfect those skills. Beginner, intermediate or advance – it does not matter. Courses are based on individual needs of our students. Classes include all safety practices along with proper operations and machine settings. Create beautiful night vistas and sunset landscapes filled with color and majestic hues! During this class, we will focus on field experience to learn and apply the techniques and theory behind night and sunset photography. We will have discussion on location prior to each shoot and then apply learning points while shooting in sunset & night environments. The class will minimize meeting in the classroom for safety although we may hold several meetings via on-line platforms to review images and bring both experiences and learning “full circle.” The class will also learn planning techniques and tools to think through a shoot before arriving at the location to maximize success and photographic opportunities. Stained glass? Fused glass? Learn about both and then combine them in exciting new ways on your own projects. You will spend the first few weeks learning how to cut glass, how to copper foil, lead and solder. Then we'll learn all about fusing (melting) glass in a kiln including painting, etching and sandblasting techniques. Make jewelry, platters, windows or panels - the possibilities are endless! New Students: Please bring safety glasses, a black sharpie marker and wear closed-toes shoes to the first class. Tools will be available for classroom use but expect to spend $12-$20 per week on materials depending on which projects you select.

On-line registration for winter classes will begin Monday, November 2, 2020. Classes begin Monday, November 16, 2020. Fee-based classes must have the required minimum number of student registrations as of the first class meeting. Registration is completed on a “first come, first served” basis. Late registrations are accepted if space is available. Call (626) 974-6420 (Trade-Tech) or (626) 974-4200 (Main Campus) for late registration information. Adult students who are applying for the High School Diploma Program must bring an official (sealed) transcript and meet with a counselor at the Main Campus. Pre-enrollment for the High School Diploma Program is highly recommended.

ADMISSION

Tri-Community Adult Education may admit as regular students only persons who meet the age of compulsory attendance (18 years old in CA). Completion from high school with a diploma or its recognized equivalent, a High School Equivalent (HSE) is a requirement for enrollment in the fulltime welding program and the court reporting program only. Sealed, official transcripts must be provided to complete the registration process. Students must meet all the admissions requirements to be accepted for a specific program and start date. Upon enrollment, students are required to attend a New Student Orientation to familiarize themselves with the campus, as well as the school’s rules and regulations.

FEES

Fees for all classes will be charged as noted. All fees are payable at time of registration. Students pay for all supplies, materials, and textbooks. A service fee of $15 will be charged for returned checks, copies of certificates of completion, and letters of verification. There is an automatic processing fee for any change to classes. ALL FEES ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE WITHOUT NOTICE.

REFUND & WITHDRAWAL POLICY

We realize that outside circumstances may sometimes impact a student’s ability to complete the program of study. When a student stops attending all of his or her classes, depending on the circumstances, it may be classified as a “withdrawal,” or “dismissal” from the institution. For the purpose of charges assessed and financial aid eligibility listed below, a dismissal will be handled the same as a withdrawal from the Institution. Refer to Student Handbook or website for full Refund & Withdrawal Policy.

General information TEXTBOOKS

Textbooks are available for purchase by students registered in Tri-Community Adult Education classes. Do not purchase textbook before class registers. TEXTBOOK FEES ARE NON-REFUNDABLE.

REGISTRATION and ATTENDANCE

A minimum number of students must be in attendance for a class to be registered. Excessive absences may cause classes to be closed or combined, or individual students to be dropped.

CERTIFICATES OF COMPLETION

Certificates of completion are issued to students who satisfactorily complete study in certain academic, business occupations, and vocational subjects.

HIGH SCHOOL DIPLOMA

Adults who do not have a high school diploma are encouraged to meet with a counselor in order to plan a program that suits their needs. For further information, call (626) 974-4200.

MINOR CHILDREN

Minor children are NOT allowed in adult education classes except in certain Parent Education classes and childcare.

INSURANCE

TRI-COMMUNITY ADULT EDUCATION DOES NOT PROVIDE STUDENT ACCIDENT INSURANCE, nor is it provided for children participating in Parent Education or Child Care activities.

STUDENT RECORDS

The release of students’ educational records shall be according to the Education Code and State regulations.

RIGHT TO PRIVACY

All students are protected by State and Federal laws regarding their right to privacy.

DISCRIMINATION PROHIBITED

No person shall, on the basis of race, color, ancestry, national origin, gender, marital status, handicap, age, religion, or political beliefs, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination in any education program or activity except as provided for use by law or regulation.

AHERA COMPLIANCE

All facilities of Tri-Community Adult Education have been inspected for asbestos-containing materials and management plans have been filed with the State of California in compliance with federal ASBESTOS HAZARD EMERGENCY RESPONSE ACT legislation. The plans are available to review at the Districts’ Administrative Offices.

Counseling Services

All students taking courses for high school credit MUST SEE A TRI-COMMUNITY COUNSELOR BEFORE ATTENDING CLASSES. Students enrolled in a regular high school must have a completed Tri-Community High School Student Referral from their school of residence prior to enrollment. High school students from outside the Covina-Valley District may only enroll in an academic class for credit recovery and will be charged a $250 fee for each 5-credit class. High school students may not enroll in computer classes. ADULT STUDENTS enrolling for high school credit should visit our website at tri-communityadulted.org to complete an interest form or call the Main Campus at (626) 974-4200. COUNSELING ASSISTANCE

Tri-Community Adult Education has a Comprehensive Guidance Program and counselors are available during school hours to assist students to reach their optimum educational goals. They offer assistance with Career Planning and Academic Guidance. A variety of tests allow students to explore their vocational interest, aptitudes, personality, intelligence, educational progress, and work values. Testing Services CASAS Testing

The testing system used at Tri-Community Adult Education for Academic, Adult Secondary Education (ASE), Adult Basic Education (ABE) and English as a Second Language (ESL) is called Comprehensive Adult Student Assessment Systems (CASAS). CASAS certifies language and basic skills proficiency and promotes the transition to higher education and workforce. All students in these programs will be administered these tests upon admission, and on a regular schedule throughout term.

VOCATIONAL/CAREER TESTING & COUNSELING

Interest, ability and career value tests are part of the Tri-Community Adult Education Counseling Services. Individuals interested in vocational testing, career information, job outlooks and requirements, current labor supply and demand, lists of vocational schools, colleges, universities, etc., are encouraged to see a counselor. FREE CHILD CARE for children of Tri-Community students will return once the school will completely reopen. Free child care will be available at the Main Campus Monday thru Thursday from 8:30 am to 12 pm. Child Care is a service available only to children of Tri-Community Adult Education students. Students attending daytime classes at ANY location may take only preschool-aged children to the Child Care Center at the Main Campus (160 N. Barranca Avenue, Covina). BEFORE A CHILD CAN ATTEND CHILD CARE, PROOF OF THE FOLLOWING IMMUNIZATIONS IS REQUIRED: DPT or DT, POLIO, RUBELLA, RUBEOLA, MUMPS, HEPATITIS B, HIB MENINGITIS and VARICELLA. Children must be at least 2 years of age, but not over 5 years of age. All children must be toilet trained. Child Care services shall not be available for children of parents on field trips.
