PLANNING FOR NEXT PHASE OF WEST HOLLYWOOD PARK IS UNDERWAY
Exciting improvements are on the horizon for West Hollywood Park. The City of West Hollywood is moving forward with design work for the second phase of its West Hollywood Park project, which calls for additional park open space, development of a recreation and community center with a sports complex and park support facilities, and new children’s playground areas. An aquatic facility, with a lap pool and a recreational pool, is planned for the rooftop of the new sports complex. An AIDS monument is also planned, to be located near the entrance to the West Hollywood Library.
CITY NEWS
Be part of the process by participating at design meetings or online.
The first phase of the West Hollywood Park project created the new West Hollywood Library, which celebrated its grand opening in October 2011. The library is a 48,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art building, which achieved a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Gold rating. The building houses the West Hollywood City Council Chambers/Public Meeting Room, a Community Meeting Room, and a café. A Design Steering Committee has been established to bring community members of all ages and interests together with representatives from the project and design team to discuss programming space for park activities and design elements for the next phase of the park. The committee is a diverse mix of residents and stakeholders ranging from teens to seniors. People who live, work, and play in West Hollywood are encouraged to participate and be heard either at meetings held in the park or by participating online at www.weho.org/whparkproject. Meetings are open to the public and are scheduled to take place on Wednesday, August 6, 2014 and Wednesday, September 3, 2014 at West Hollywood Library’s Community Meeting Room, located at 625 N. San Vicente Boulevard. West Hollywood Park is located at 647 N. San Vicente Boulevard. To get involved, provide your input, and find out more visit www.weho.org/whparkproject or contact Francisco Contreras at (323) 848-6874 or at fcontreras@weho.org.
ENVISION THE FUTURE OF THE HISTORIC PROPERTY AT 1343 N. LAUREL AVENUE
The City of West Hollywood is engaging community members in a series of public meetings and online as part of a process to gather input to help determine the future of the property located at 1343 N. Laurel Avenue. The West Hollywood City Council approved the creation of a Vision Concepts Committee, which is leading the effort to increase public involvement and foster in-depth discussions of concepts and potential uses of the property. The community visioning process is an opportunity for residents and stakeholders to work together to collectively imagine what uses they would like to see at 1343 N. Laurel Avenue. The process seeks to identify the property’s opportunities and limitations, explore potential uses that meet community needs, and encourage a broad range of civic participation. The property at 1343 N. Laurel Avenue was donated to the City of West Hollywood and the Colonial-style home and its grounds are a local cultural and historic resource. The property is a beloved part of the West Hollywood community’s past and the site is currently open to the public as a park. To get involved, provide your input, and find out more visit www.1343nlaurelave.org or contact Lisa Marie Belsanti at (323) 848-6378 or at lbelsanti@weho.org.
