REGISTRATION INFORMATION Please visit weho.org/recreation to create an account. The process is very easy: 1. Log on to weho.org/recreation and click the Recreation Online link. 2. Create an account for an adult in the household by clicking on the “Create an Account” button. You do not need to make a separate account for your child/ children. You will have an opportunity to add children and other family members to your account during the process. 3. Once your account has been created, you can register, and pay for programs using a credit card. You can still pay with a check or money order (no cash) at either the Plummer Park or West Hollywood Park offices, but you must create an account in order to do so. 4. We recommend you set up your account before the registration date of programs to help speed up the process for you.

From the Director For the YOUTH in the community, programs such as TINY TOTS, TOT TIME, KIDZ LOVE SOCCER, and REC ‘N’ ROLL MOBILE RECREATION provides skill building activities that fosters creativity and socialization. POP UP AND PLAY is a summer favorite because it is fun and free. Every Friday during Pop Up and Play, staff will introduce a new art or science project that stimulates the mind and sparks innovation for participants. CAMP WEST HOLLYWOOD is for youth ages 6-11 and is operating for the entire length of the LAUSD summer break, 10 weeks! Specialty camps like HOOPS UNIVERSITY BASKETBALL CAMP and SPLASH CAMP encourage youth in the community to explore and enhance their athletic skills. TOT TIME CAMP allows children 3½ to 5 years old to learn positive social behaviors and explore hands on activities. The TEENS in the community are gearing up for their most exciting summer yet! Join in on the fun with camping excursions, educational field trips, volunteer opportunities, and unique programs offered at the Teen Center. Discover cooking, dancing, sports, and other interesting programs that encourage a healthy lifestyle and teaches important life skills.

This summer, we want to celebrate everything that makes our parks fun, joyful and full of excitement! This year's theme for PARKS AND RECREATION MONTH is GAME ON! So, start lacing up your fun shoes, and get ready to get in the game with the programs and events the Recreation Services Division has to offer. This season’s Rec Reader is filled with a variety of awesome opportunities for people of all ages in the community to experience.

With this year’s theme of GAME ON, we challenge the ADULTS in the community to grab their friends and engage in some friendly competition. Pop over to PING PONG on Friday nights, dare to try DODGEBALL, and discover the world of VOLLEYBALL. Try YOGA, “HAPPY FEET” BALLROOM DANCE, or take a SELF-CARE 101 “Trigger Point Massage” workshop designed to teach participants how to identify trigger points to prevent and manage common areas of stiffness. For the OLDER ADULTS in the community, put on your Hawaiian shirt for the summer’s Senior Dance Luau for a night of dancing, food, and fun.

The FARMERS’ MARKET is hosting the Summer Entertainment Series, in which a variety of musical acts will perform every Monday to make your shopping experience more enjoyable. Aquatics is ready for summer with a variety of splash-tacular programs and events for people of all ages. JUST ADD WATER FITNESS CLUB classes such as Swim Cardio Rock ‘n’ Roll, Active Balance, and Aqua Explosion provides full body work outs that improve flexibility, balance, and strength. The JUST ADD WATER FITNESS EXTRAVAGANZA is a high energy event that showcases water fitness classes designed for all fitness levels. We will continue to host a variety of special events, including the popular DIVE IN/MOVIES IN THE PARK, JUNK IN THE TRUNK community market, and the WEHO REC EXPO. The WeHo Rec Expo highlights all the programs and events the Recreation Services Division has to offer, all in one place at one time. Visit the Expo for live demonstrations, engaging activity booths, music, and fun.

For the entire FAMILY, check out the popular CATALINA ISLAND EXCURSION, back again for the third summer. This summer’s excursions also include the LAGUNA BEACH SAWDUST FESTIVAL and OSTRICH LAND USA IN SOLVANG. So hop on a bus and join one of the excursions to explore the exciting areas outside the City limits.

ADULTS This class is suitable for beginning yoga students, those with injuries, and ongoing students interested in deepening understanding of proper alignment in their practice. Borrowing from Iyengar, Viniyoga and Anusara traditions, Yoga Basics helps you reduce stress and build flexibility and strength as you discover each pose safely and with proper alignment. Props are provided. Please bring your own mat. Mark DeWhitt has taught yoga for 13 years at studios and corporations throughout Los Angeles. Self-Care 101: Trigger Point Massage

"Trigger Points" are "knots" in muscle tissue that may restrict your flexibility. They also create predictable pain referral patters to other areas of the body that seem unrelated. For instance, some back pain can start from a trigger point found in your calf muscle. Who knew? In this workshop you'll learn how to: prevent/ manage common areas of pain and stiffness (neck, shoulders, back and hips) by addressing the possible underlying clauses. You'll also learn how to identify trigger points, apply self-massage safely and effectively, and expand knowledge of your own physical anatomy. *No prior experience necessary. Wear comfortable clothing and bring an exercise mat if you have one. Instructional visual aid download will be provided. WeHo Dodgeball is Southern California's premier adult co-ed dodgeball league. With a rotating membership of over 2,000 players, WeHo Dodgeball provides a healthy mix of fun and competition. Our soft rubber "no sting" balls help to create an environment that welcomes all people from prom queens to drag queens. Our goal is to provide a fun and active alternative to people looking for a social scene in the West Hollywood area. While the goal is to eliminate your opponents on the court, the social part of Dodgeball is just as important as the game itself. WeHo Dodgeball's commitment to community outreach is a cornerstone of our operating charter. From fundraising for local charities to participating in health and fitness events, our members partake in a wide-array of charitable endeavors aimed at strengthening our connection to the community we call home. It can also help you to avoid fatigue and muscle strain. The Teen Center supports opportunities for youth to develop their physical, social, emotional, and cognitive abilities and to experience opportunities in leadership, enjoyment, friendship, and recognition. The Teen Center offers organized instructional programs for physical activities such as dance, sports, and hiking and for academic and arts programs such as science, crafts, cooking, and music. It also offers opportunities for volunteering in the community that can be used for school credits. Stop by and pick up a monthly calendar because we have new and exciting things to do this summer. In some cases, children as young as seven years old may participate in Teen Center activities, but only when the Sheriff Deputy is in present to accommodate them.

The Teen Center offers a variety of cooking tutorials you can learn and take with you to make at home. File recipes in your Teen Chef Journal and look back on all the tasty meals you helped to create. Camp Courage Located in the City of Industry’s Tonner Canyon, Camp Courage is filled with challenging rope courses, zip lines, climbing, arts and crafts, team building, hiking, campfires, swimming, and archery. Camp Courage is a fun way for youth to learn new skills and build self confidence in their own abilities, while bonding with Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department deputies and other mentors. Outdoor Youth Connection Camping Trip to Calaveras Big Trees The Outdoor Youth Connection is a five-day camping trip for youth ages 13 to 17 focused on developing leadership skills. While camping at Calaveras Big Trees State Park, the youth will learn basic camping skills, such as setting up tents, preparing food, and outdoor safety. Additionally, the youth will learn independence, adventure, values, and decision making. Dates: Monday, July 8 - Friday, July 12

Life After High School The California Police Activities League will host its annual "Life After High School" conference that prepares the youth for their future decisions. During the program, youth will stay in dorms and attend a variety of classes that will help them prepare for life once they complete high school and/or move from home. Some of the classes that are offered are how to prepare for the SAT/ACT and ASV AB test, college admission requirements, how to apply for college scholarships, trade schools and community college, and how to deal with peer pressure. Each week is action packed with unique activities, free swim at West Hollywood Aquatic Center, and exciting field trips. Camp West Hollywood promotes creativity, safety and wellness, physical activities, building positive relationships, and creating new memories. Campers must wear their camp shirts daily. For campers who sign up for 1 to 3 weeks, they will receive 2 camp shirts. For campers who sign up for 4 to 7 weeks, they will receive 3 camp shirts. For campers who sign up for 8 to 10 weeks, campers will receive 4 camp shirts. You may purchase an additional camp shirt for $5. Submitting a refund request does not ensure the refund will be granted.  Make-up classes, credit or refund will NOT be given for any dates missed by patron for any reason.  Full refunds/credits are available for camps cancelled by the City.  Credit card transactions will be refunded to the same credit card within five business days.  A $5 administration fee will be charged per transaction per participant.

Late Pick-Up Policy Parents and/or Guardians must pick their camper up ON TIME at the end of each camp day. THERE IS NO GRACE PERIOD. Should the participant be picked up late, a $1 per minute late fee will be charged, starting the minute after the end of camp. Late fees must be paid (check or credit card only) before the child can return to the camp program. If a parent or guardian is repeatedly late picking up their child, they risk suspension from the program without refund.

Your admission is included where one of the highlights will include your opportunity to feed the ostriches and emus. These big birds are a rare and unique sight in this part of the world and the farms provide a way for you to be up close and personal but also safe at the same time. The backdrop of the landscape on which they roam is quite lovely and seeing them walking about on the plain that resembles their native desert is like being in another place and time. Our next stop will be into Solvang for lunch and shopping on own in this quaint little Danish town.

Sawdust Festival – Laguna Beach Ages: All Ages | Cost: $25 | Min: 30 | Max: 47 Depart at: 9:30 am | Return at: 5:30 pm Location: Meet at Plummer Park South Parking Lot Staff: Recreation Services Division 10502 July 7 Sunday 9:30 am – 5:30 pm Spend the day at the 53rd annual Sawdust Art Festival, admission included. Art enthusiasts, collectors, and novice artists have come to the Sawdust since 1966 for a mix of fine art and crafts. Take your time walking through the festival to see the handblown and fused glass instructors, paintings, jewelry art, surf art, ceramics, clothing and textiles, wood and metal sculptures, scrimshaw, photography, and so much more. Lunch will be on your own. We will also visit the downtown Laguna Beach area for browsing/shopping on own before returning home at 3:30 pm.

T he bus pick up will be in front of the Community Center in the south parking lot at Plummer Park (7377 Santa Monica Blvd). Boarding of the bus will occur 15 minutes prior to departure. The bus will not wait for late arrivals. No refunds will be given for late arrivals.  To obtain a full refund you must notify the Recreation Division in writing 10 days before the excursion. Please email recreation@weho.org. After 10 days and/or after the excursion has occurred, refund will be given only for reasons of injury or illness; verification is necessary. The West Hollywood Aquatic Center strives to offer affordable and safe aquatics programs for the entire community. These aquatics programs are offered to people of all ages. The Aquatic Center is located at 647 N. San Vicente Boulevard between Melrose Avenue and Santa Monica Boulevard. It is conveniently located inside of the West Hollywood Park, adjacent to the West Hollywood Library. GENERAL INFORMATION

REGISTRATION/RESERVATION AND REFUND POLICY Registration Information R egistration is required for all recreation programs. Register early, as programs may have to be cancelled without meeting the minimum enrollment. R ecreation programs are NOT prorated.  Register online at weho.org/recreation or you may register in person at West Hollywood Park or Plummer Park.  Check, credit card, or money orders are accepted forms of payment. NO CASH.  Class minimum registration requirements will vary per class and can range from a minimum of 5-10. We reserve the right to cancel any class if minimum enrollment numbers are not met.

Late Pick-Up Policy P arents and/or Guardians must pick up children and youth participants ON TIME at the end of each class or camp day. THERE IS NO GRACE PERIOD. Should the participant be picked up late, a $1 per minute late fee will be charged, starting the minute after the end of class. Late fees much be paid before the child can return to the program or class. If a parent or guardian is repeatedly late picking up their child, they risk suspension from the program without refund.
