Certificates: All courses are competency based. Students will be awarded completion certificates after successfully completing all competencies. Certificate coursework is recognized by industry and surrounding local community colleges. Age Requirement for Enrollment: Any person 16 years of age or older is eligible for enrollment. Those under 18 must be registered through our Assistant Principal, Counseling Services at each site.
Enrollment: Must be confirmed by attendance at the first class meeting. Under the continuous enrollment policy, vacancies at the first class meeting may be filled immediately from the waiting list. Continuous Enrollment: Students may enroll in some classes any time during the class term if space is available. Registration is on a first-come-first-served basis. Waiting lists are valid for the current class term only.
Prerequisites: Some classes have requirements that must be met before taking the course. Please see each class description to check if there are any prerequisites for the class you wish to take. Re-Enrollment: Students may not re-enroll in a class that they have completed.
Fees and Exemptions Information: The Course fee for each individual class is noted in the schedule of classes. 1. A minimum course fee of $30 will be charged for each class. 2. The charge for a photo ID is $5. 3. Students may be required to purchase books and/or supplies. Registration is not complete until all fees are paid. The registration office accepts cash, checks or credit cards. (A service fee of $5 will be charged per returned check.)
Exemptions: Individuals exempt from paying all fees: 1. Concurrently enrolled high school students. (See page 5, H.S. Student Services) 2. P ersons with disabilities 22 years old and younger. Individuals eligible for an exemption must inform the Registration Office staff before registering.
Request for Refunds:
1. Requests must be made within seven calendar days after the first possible day of attendance. 2. Requests must be accompanied by a paid receipt. 3. Refunds are subject to a $20 drop fee for each transaction. 4. Refunds are sent by U.S. mail after processing.
Termination Policy: Students may be dropped from a class for the following reasons: 1) Failure to attend first class meeting at the time class is scheduled to begin. 2) Failure to meet prerequisites as stated in the class schedule and approved by Division of Adult and Career Education. 3) Absent more than three consecutive class sessions in a semester without contacting instructor.* 4) Unsatisfactory progress in a course due to irregular attendance.* 5) Committing an unlawful act on school premises, violation of school regulations or disruption of the orderly operation of the school or class. 6) Unsuccessful completion of the required hours and competencies for the course. 7) Continually arriving late to class or leaving early (See Student Orientation Handbook).* 8) Inappropriate behavior or failure to adhere to code of conduct.

Length of Training: The length of training varies. Your completion will depend on curriculum guidelines, your previous experience, attendance, and individual ability. Students must meet all course competencies. Students who have not passed may not re-enroll for a class after completion of the term without the instructor and/or counselor (if applicable) approval. Enrollment for a third term must be approved by the instructor and/or counselor (if applicable) and an administrator. *Note: Students dropped for reasons above will have to re-register and pay full fees once again. Computer Challenge Tests: Tests are given in the Career Resource Center (CRC) (Room 204). There is a $20 fee for each test. Fees are paid in the CRC. Call extension 234 to make an appointment. New students may omit the following classes by passing Challenge Tests: Computer Operations/1: Foundations and Computer Operations/2: Applications. Typing Test: Test for typing speed is given in our Career Resource Center (Room 204). Pay $20 fee in the CRC. (May re-take test for $20 each time.) Call extension 234 to make an appointment. Practice GED Tests are given at 1:30 on Wednesday & Thursday in Room 10. Testing (Part 1) must begin on a Wednesday. Tests are also given the first Wednesday & Thursday of each month at 6:30 p.m. in Room 10. A reading test is required before taking the Practice GED Test. It is recommended that students take the reading test prior to registration to be able to secure their space. (See reading test schedule above.) There is a $35 fee for the complete battery of practice tests. The fee is paid in the Counseling/Registration Office. This fee covers GED Preparation coursework. Note: Students must be at least 18 years of age to take the GED test. ESL Placement Testing: New ESL students must be assessed for correct level placement to register for classes. Testing and registration are scheduled on Monday & Wednesday at 8:30 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. in Room 104.
Student Services Offered at West Valley Occupational Center Disability Support Services Located in Room 102, the Disability Support Services Office provides assistance to adult students with disabilities. Support services may include: program information, registration assistance, adaptive equipment and software, classroom accommodations, sign language interpreters, and agency referral and liaison. Documentation verifying the disabling condition will be required. For information or/and appointment, please call (818) 346-3540 ext. 253.
Career Resource Center Access to career-oriented information and resources are available to WVOC students. Students can obtain handouts, view DVDs, and utilize computers to access information on such topics as resumes, interviews, job searches, and more. Hours of operation are Monday thru Thursday from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. For additional information and hours of operation, please call (818) 346-3540 Ext. 234 or visit Room 204. Counseling Services Counseling services include career, academic and referrals to community agencies for personal issues. To make an appointment with a counselor contact the counseling office at: (818) 346-3540 Ext. 281 or 282, or come to Room 102.
H.S. Student Services Senior high school students (16 years of age and over) in public, parochial or private schools are eligible to enroll in day or evening classes. For additional information, contact your high school counselor or call the Assistant Principal, Adult Counseling Services at West Valley Occupational Center at (818) 346-3540, Ext. 275, Room 102.
Student Records/Transcript Evaluation Students may request copies of their WVOC course completion records or attendance records in the Counseling and Registration Office (room 102). All requests will require photo ID. Records will be prepared and ready for pick up in 5-10 working days. Records prior to 1996 may take longer. Note: Students interested in earning a U.S. High School Diploma may receive credit for prior courses completed in high school or college. Please make an appointment with a counselor to have your transcripts evaluated.
Veteran’s Program: Veterans seeking educational benefits should make an appointment to see a Counselor at: (818) 346-3540, extension 221. Approved courses for veteran education training benefits are noted in schedule. Disabled Veterans should contact the Disability Support Services Office at extension 253.

Covering the fundamentals of each program, students will learn about creating and editing documents and spreadsheets; applying formatting elements and page layouts; producing tables and charts; saving and printing files; and more.
